We were robbed of over $25,000 in cash and jewelry from our hotel room as we were in the spa. Very conspicuous as we were robbed during the exact 45 minutes we were in the spa and only hotel staff knew we were going. No forced entry so a room access card was used. To add to the situation, the hotel has no security cameras in any of the halls, elevator lobbies or general access areas. The hotel offered no assistance but only allowed us to check out early as we did not feel safe. The staff was only in denial saying it was “impossible”. This is the first time we have been robbed and was a terrible experience.

Things were so old in our room and so many deficiencies that we refused to stay and demanded our money back.

The manager did finally agree to do a 100% refund but she was possibly playing games with us by saying Expedia didn’t allow her !!!

We can't say enough about the Grand Hotel Des Alpes.
Centrally located in town, so made it easy to visit local shops and phenomenal restaurants (e.g. Atmosphere, Rose de Pont and Matafan, all highly recommended).
Skiing to each of the 4 resorts was made easy through the hotels shuttle service. Picks you up at the hotel and drops you off at the slopes. Then returns you. Both to and from are on a schedule you decide. Staff was amazing. Little positives like sweets in the early afternoon and savory snacks in the late afternoon were a very nice surprise.
We will always stay here when visiting Chamonix.

Fantastic hotel, highly recommend

Excellent hotel, nice and clean.
Staff were attentiveness, provided extras (nice little treat) when purchasing.
Spa is open from 9am-9pm which again was good after a days walking the hills.
Great location, right in the centre of Chamonix
The street can be loud, (UTMB was being held the week we were there) however we were provided with ear plugs.
Highly recommended a Mountain View, just stunning

Lovely view from the room / balcony of Mont Blanc. However, the balcony was tiny - only fit 1 chair, but still nice to have as a solo traveler. Staff was courteous and room was clean.

My husband and I stopped at this hotel on the way back to the U.K. from Rome. The help we received from the lady on reception, and especially the Porter, regarding finding parking for our Land Rover and race box was exceptional. The Porter, especially, went above and beyond by leading my husband to a suitable car park and bringing him back to the hotel in the shuttle bus. Outstanding service!!! The previous week at a nearby hotel called Le Refuge the help was non existent. In fact, the hostility was awful. Everything at Grand Hotel was wonderful. Nearby restaurants. Also, the view of Mont Blanc from our room was breathtaking. We didn’t have the time on this trip to fully enjoy the hotel and its surroundings, but we will definitely be back to do just that.

The people were so nice here! We'd just finished the TMB and splurged for a 5 star hotel, we totally enjoyed this place!

We used the spa and pool but thought it was weird that the sauna and steam room were only available from 5-9pm, i wish they'd have it open all the time. The hot tub/spa could have been hotter too.

We highly recommend starting here.

Beautiful hotel! The spa is well-equipped with a pool and sauna. Plus, I had a massage by Joanna, which was amazing and much needed after a day of walking and thin air up on Mont Blanc. The reception’s managers were both extremely helpful and very pleasant.

I was booked for a suite for 3 nights from 10th to 13th July. During check in they told me there is issue with AC and I cannot use AC during the night for bedroom and living room suite.
It was very difficult for me to sleep without AC and didn't expect such situation for 5 star hotel for 500$ per night !

Location couldn't have been better, with walking access to shops, restaurants and all of the attractions. Had a room overlooking the promenade and access to the back porch to see Mont Blanc. Front desk staff was very nice and helpful, and assisted with dinner reservations. No air conditioning, but windows opened for ventilation. Hotel had umbrellas available during a day of rain.

Beautiful hotel in the heart of Chamonix!

We had an amazing two days here. Location was in the center of town, walkable to almost everything. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly (we love Sue!) Rooms were super clean and had everything we needed (minibar/fridge, hot water kettle for tea and coffee, robes, towel warmer, WiFi, etc.). We used the pool and warm tub in the spa every night. Very comfortable, clean, and relaxing. Would definitely stay here again!

Lovely staff, great stay!

This was a short stay, but the staff was incredibly helpful over the few hours we were there. We were starting a trek of the full Tour - the hotel stored our luggage, washed some of our clothes, and held our jewelry in their safe. They helped us with a dinner reservation too. The only downfall is that it is on a main square and when you sleep with the windows open, you can hear anyone staying out late and talking loudly. It's not a big party town, though, so regular noise was minimal and the fan they provided helped drown out quite a bit. This definitely won't stop us from staying here again!

One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. The staff here is so wonderful. They really went out of their way to be be helpful and are genuinely kind. Our rooms were just like you see in pictures. We had plenty of storage and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. No air conditioning but our room faced the river so we slept with the window open and we were very comfortable. Breakfast had plenty of options and the service was outstanding. Tips: quiet rooms face the river and bring your own blow dryer.

It's the people that make the difference!

Wow! Where to start? From the first check in, to the last check out, this was an amazing stay! The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. They gave me the tour of the relaxation area, lounge,breakfast room and my room.
The breakfast staff were over the top welcoming and fun to engage. The driver of the ski van was very safe and friendly.
The location was perfectly in the center of everything.

Beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of Chamonix

The Grand Hotel des Alpes is very well located in the heart of Chamonix. The major lifts as well as many food and shopping options are all walkable. We stayed for 3 nights / 4 days and didn't use our car once.

It is a small luxury boutique hotel with impeccable service and details like evening refresh service as well as tea & biscuits in the pool / spa. The entire hotel is also exceptionally clean - the pool area felt brand new.

I thought one downside might be the noise from town in the evening but we had a beautiful room overlooking the river and didn't hear a bit of town at bedtime. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet every morning - good variety for a small hotel and just enough differentiation from day to day. The staff were also always available and incredibly helpful. If there's a downside to this hotel, we didn't find it.

GORGEOUS hotel! Great location with an awesome spa - steam, hammam, hot tub, pool. Had a massage which was OK ... But learning that European massages aren't as deep as what you get in the U.S. and tend to be more Swedish? Oh, and there were kids swimming - literally JUMPING back & forth b/c the pool and hot tub, which was not cool. Are kids even allowed in hot tubs? But I blame the Dad, not the hotel.

The location was pretty central and had gorgeous views of the mountains. Beautiful back patio areas right on the rushing river Arve too. The rooms were clean and lovely as well.

The hotel staff was super friendly and very helpful. Thanks for a great stay!

Refined and cozy boutique mountain hotel

The hotel is in a perfect location in the center of Chamonix, on a main street and not far from the tram to Mt Blanc. Views either overlook the rushing river or the boulevard.

The decor is warm and inviting, pristine, with lovely wood paneling and antiques and a winding staircase with lighthearted French quotes stenciled along the wall.

The service was excellent, first-class, with a boutique hotel touch. You feel like a guest, and personal guidance is given at every request.

A small bar has a host who will serve snacks and beverages in one of the sweet sitting areas.
The rooms are just beautiful, with cozy wood paneling on ceilings and walls. Great views. A true mountain resort/lodge feeling.

Nice Hotel in a Perfect Location

This was a lovely hotel with excellent amenities. I would highly recommend it to any of my friends and family. I stayed for 4 nights and truly felt welcome by all the staff. The rooms are cozy and offer stunning views. I wouldn't hesitate to come back. 10/10 would recommend.

If I had to offer any criticism it would be that the shower was a little underpressured. Otherwise, that's about my only complaint.

our questions and arranging transportation to the local ski areas. Danny even drove me back to the ski

This hotel was FANTASTIC! The hotel itself is beautiful, the staff friendly and helpful, and the amenities phenomenal. Since we were there for a snowboarding trip, the ski room where you could store gear and complimentary shuttle service to local ski areas were hugely helpful, not to mention being able to purchase our ski passes directly from the front desk. This all saved my husband and I plenty of time waiting in ticket lines and at bus stations...The afternoon tea and aperitif times were also nice bonuses. And being in the heart of downtown Chamonix, the hotel was convenient to everything, which made it unnecessary to have a car. All in all, a great stay and definitely a place we'll look to book again in the future!

This hotel is in an amazing, central location on the river and close to all shops and restaurants. The front desk was very helpful throughout our stay. The rooms are covered in warm, comfortable wood paneling that creates an inviting atmosphere. We also enjoyed the large selection of appetizers/desserts that was served until 9m every day. We will certainly return if we are ever lucky enough to be in Chamonix again.

Very easy for skiing (such as, you rent your skis about 100 meters from the hotel, the hotel has very good ski storage, they have the ski pass for sale so you do not wait at the mountain, and then the hotel drives you to the mountain you choose!). While this hotel was built in the 1840s, it is well upgraded while still holding an old time charm. Staff was excellent (to include meeting us at the garage location), bar service great, the breakfast outstanding, and location you cannot beat if you want to be in the middle of Chamonix. We stayed two nights on our way from Annecy to Nice. We wanted to experience the Alps and Mont Blanc. The hotel was quite upscale, with a mountain chalet decor and extremely friendly and helpful staff. The room was large and comfortable, except for the overly soft bed. The bathroom had all of the amenities and was brightly lit. There is no air conditioning, but the temperature was quite comfortable by simply cracking the window at night. The breakfast was also quite good.

Grand Hotel was grand!

Last minute decision to go to Chamonix for a couple of days as it was going to be rainy in Switzerland. Hotel staff knowledgeable and helpful. Clean room, comfortable beds, many TV stations, wifi in room, 24 hr laundry service. Easy access to transportation to the mountains. Five to ten minute walk from the train station. Shops and restaurants close by; ice cream across the street. Many shops filled with cheese, meats, wines and of course bakeries with elegant desserts. One of the best stops on the September trip and one of the best hotels.

I suggest that you book a less expensive room (they are all small by American standards). Wonderful location, helpful staff, comfortable beds and GREAT housekeepers. The breakfast looked very good but we opted for coffee and pastries from a little shop across the street.

Beautiful hotel in the centre of Chamonix. The staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely swimming pool and jacuzzi which we used after a day of walking. Central Chamonix with its restaurants and shops at its doorstep. Historic hotel with tons of charm. Staff is very kind and helpful. Look forward to our return.

Romantic hotel in the center of Chamonix

It was my second visit to Chamonix and I was delighted and pleasently surprised to find this beatiful hotel-great location, comfortable and spacious rooms, very polite and helpfull hotel personnel, specially at the reception. It is romantic, right by the side of the canalized river and with beatifull views of the mountains. I will definitely come back.

What a gem!

Fabulous hotel in a great location. Easy access to everything of interest in Chamonix. Hotel staff was amazing and unbelievably helpful.

Brilliant stay - top hotel

The room was excellent, fantastic bathroom with boiling hot water, robes, slippers and everything I needed after skiing all day, including a well stocked mini-bar. Staff were fantastic, really polite, drove me to the slopes and back no problems and really looked after me. I will definitely come back again, no hesitation.
