The property location and gardens stunning amongst the hills, but 4-5km from town. Rooms were really lovely and most staff friendly. However for the price of the property and what they offer leaves a lot to be desired. Thought the buffet was just very average, service on drinks very slow( or they’d even forget) One bottle of water in your room and if you wanted anymore you had to purchase. In your room was only a couple of tea bags and coffee, when we asked for some Green or Herbal tea, we were told they didn’t offer that. In comparison to other properties and for similar or less price was pretty average

Payment confusion

The hotel had a great atmosphere but the staff had major confusion when checking out as they were telling me that I haven’t paid for the room and I need to pay the balance, I showed them the invoice which I paid but they refused from there side.after calling Hotels.com via telephone I was able to resolve this matter, I was disappointed really disappointed as I wanted to attend my friends wedding but due to this incident I was delayed

Short stay at Amaya Hills

We stayed for here for our first two nights in Sri Lanka - a lovely hotel in the beautiful hills near Kandy. The location was great for us to make the most of our time in and around Kandy - the people were really friendly and the place was spotless.

Peaceful Location

Excellent for a peaceful and comfortable holiday away from the hassle and bustle of city life. It was an ideal place selected by chance. Manager and staff extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. Selection from a variety of food were tasty especially local dishes, as a Sri Lankan living abroad, were ideal for palate. The ambiance and fresh air were refreshing.
Highly recommended definitely worth many more visits for relaxing times.
The bungalows offered are ideal for private family holiday or a get together.
Hospitality extended was awesome !
Definitely worth more visits.

The hotel view is nice if you are lucky .

First night:
They gave me a room three floors down at the bedroom.
I refused that room and they transferred me to another good room first floor.
Second night I returned to find that my room was changed to another room which was bad.
It's bathroom is not good for use,not clean and not with a good space and no shampoo also.
They gave me a deluxe room but I paid for superior room.
The reception staff and the manager was not even trying to understand my request.

Staff were polite and tried to be helpful. The views are amazing although the property is in desperate need of a refurb.

Unfortunately, though the Hotel tries to rip you off at every turn ruining the holiday. Twice they tried to inflate the advertised prices of essentials like breakfasts etc. I would not recommend this hotel to others

Quite satisfied except the price

I hesitated before booking because of negative comments online about the hotel, but finally the one night stay was quite pleasant. We booked two rooms but were given a family suite, so that we could spend a joyful evening together in the living room. Contrary to some negative comments, the air con can be turned off, impeccable hot water shower for everyone, the food was OK.

Ripped off by the staff, if your White be careful!

We paid and booked online at full price for a two person per room occupancy as clearly stated in the room terms and conditions. However, I was the only person listed on the online paper work with contact details since I booked through my personal account. My sister and I arrived at the hotel in the morning and everything went smoothly upon checkin, the room we booked was for two twin beds. Later in the evening we were approached in the lobby by a mob of staff demanding us to pay them double the original booking rate all in USD cash per night for my sister to share the room with me plus extra for her to have breakfast, and we had booked for 3 nights! The amount they were demanding far exceeded the nightly rate for a whole new room. I refused and showed them their own terms and conditions that they state online for a 2 people occupancy per room. They would not stop harassing us for payment and said that they don't care what their policy says since I was the only one showing on the paper work despite the fact that at checkin both of us were asked for our passports and contact details. I refused to pay that amount and asked to speak to a manager. Two managers came and were trying to negotiate all kinds of ridiculous fees, but I refused to pay. They then proceeded to say that the hotel would do me the "courtesy" of allowing us to actually use the other twin bed in the room for free as long as we pay USD per day for one extra breakfast. I agreed and paid them. Horrible experience!!

the view was amazing. The hotel could do some renovation. Bath rooms were ok, room was ok, but the view of the surrounding hill tops were amazing. I would go there again for the breathtaking views. The buffet was good, had lots of choices and was delicious as well. its worth the price. Also the hotel staff is friendly and courteous .

Staff indifference spoils stay

Registration staff could not find our booking, but showed no empathy. He was trying to deal with other guests after commencing our check-in process, answering the phone, fiddling. Eventually found our booking but still failed to show any need to process our check-in. Hotel is a long way from Kandy and we could not see any alternate dining options close by. I would recommend finding a hotel much closer to Kandy itself.

The only thing that is exciting about this hotel is the view from your room. Anyone booking this hotel, should consider the fact that they charge an extra 40 dollars if you want the view of the mountains. I was willing to pay that amount. The hotel is up on the hill so the ride in the night can be actually a bit scary. If you are a young couple I will recommend a hotel in the town. After we checked in, the toilet was leaking. We had to change rooms. Our ordeal at the hotel didn't end there. If you want to eat at the restaurants, they have specific timings for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you miss the time, you have to order room service which closes at midnight. The other incident that happened was the cover of the light in the toilet came down crashing on the floor while showering. The bathrooms are small, the rooms are small. The hotel seems old and definitely not a palace in the hills as they advertise.

Fabulous views! Hotel was great, the room was also fine, and we had a balcony over looking the mountains and pool, but the bathroom was very small.
The hotel had a great pool and spa, live music at night, great verandah to sit and sip a cocktail, had a restaurant with both buffet and a la carte. The morning breakfast was large with many choices.
The staff were very helpful but not many of them could speak English.

Hotel with a view

The hotel is well maintained and has very good views of the mountain. The view of the sun set from the room and from the pool are stunning. The hotel is away from the market and there is nothing close by. The rooms are excellent.

Disappointing 5star hotel

The location is good and staff was really friendly. However, the hotel was not of a 5 star standard:
1. Delux room was small, the bathroom tiny and in need of refurbishment. The balcony lacked a table.
2. No bathrobes provided until requested and then they were worn out. Iron arrived at request but without ironing board.
3. Building was noisy, no sound insulation and in need of refurbishment.
4. Room service breakfast was below par. Much better to take buffet in restaurant.
5. Quality of food was variable from good to poor. In fairness when things went wrong staff was very apologetic and food not charged.
6. We had 3 items of clothing damaged in laundry, showing a lack of training. To be fair, we were compensated for damages
7. Some guests one evening decided to bring their own music to pool area, and no action was taken

In summary, the hotel has lots of potential, very service minded staff, and a great location, but too much can go wrong. At the moment it is at best a 4 star hotel.

Luxury in the hills

We booked a room at Amaya Hills at the last minute and were absolutely knocked off our feet when we arrived by tuk tuk from the Kandy train station. The location, on the side of a small mountain above a valley in Kandy, is spectacular. The layout of the hotel is airy and open, capitalizing on the views and cool air of the hills. Service was impeccable, both in the dining room and room service. The reception staff helped book drivers for day trips to attractions like the Temple of the Tooth and Royal Botanical Gardens (highly recommended!).

A hotel on top of a hill

We enjoyed our stay. The hotel is on top of a hill so the scenaries of the surroundings the hotel were excellent. The reception was good. The breakfast was good with lots of choices.
The reception area looks good, the rooms were clean, however some areas of the hotel and our room and I beleive other rooms needs refurbishing if the hotel is to get higher ratings.

Relaxing setting, great views, stunning gardens.

Very much enjoyed our stay, pleasant walks in the gardens, and trekking around the area, hotel guides helpful, pointing out the tea, coffee, and cinnamon. The views were stunning from our balcony, and room was very clean, with good facilities, tv , tea ,coffee, mini bar etc.
It makes a very relaxing place to stay, a little out of the way, so transport required to Kandy, but making a secluded getaway.
Great breakfasts, very large buffet catering for just about every taste, with bar meals available until late.
The staff were all pleasant and helpful, all in all, and very nice place.
