The Sorell Barracks' Garden Shed which i stayed in for a night was well equipped, comfortable, secure and warm. The 4 poster double bed was charming. The TV reception was good. The heater worked. The kitchenette was well equipped. There was plenty of hot water for the shower. The front door key was in a key safe on the door, the code to which was txted to me on the day of arrival. I never did see or hear the owners / managers, which felt a bit odd, but I'm sure they were contactable had I needed to. I'd happily stay again, and can recommend the place to all who look for accommodation that is not absolutely stereotypical.

A quirky historic building needing some TLC

This was a great historic building which also contained a lovely garden. There was a small kitchenette and a separate sleeping area No actual contact was made with owners but messages sent through Hotels.com. The condition of the building needed work. I know it was an historic building but it needed decoration and maintenance. Windows would not open properly and some curtains kept falling down. Above all it needed a deep clean- the furnishings and carpets were dusty and dirty.

The hosts have thought of everything! Beautiful historical home, yet with all the mod cons. Best shower ever and the spa bath was wonderful after tiring days walking. Beds were comfy and plenty of extra blankets and portable heating to move about for those cold Tassie nights. Main heater was rather lpud n rattly but worked well to keep us snug n warm 🙂

I was in a Loft Room witch was great had queen size bed & had great spacious areas to roam about in the room but unfortunetally the steps was steep & unsafe for people with bigger feet & had to go down sideways on the going downstairs trips & Im at tall person was hitting the ceiling from the angle of the heritage building was made also had to duck under the bathroom doorway & had to sit on the toilet most times but didnt mind the uniqueness of the building with the Telephone (Book Library) Booth & the Paintings & Cross Stitch work was hanging in the rooms was a nice touch to the place

A unique historic property with modern amenities

A unique historic property which had all the modern comforts. I was given a free upgrade which was much appreciated. The breakfast provisions were VERY generous, catering to different tastes. The steep staircase could present a problem but I was made aware of it before I agreed to the upgrade.

Conveniently located near Hobart Airport, it suited us well for a one night stay. Our late arrival meant that one of our hosts had to wait up for us (and greeted us cheerfully) which we greatly appreciated. The old fashioned-ness of the room fitted with the historical surrounds, and although fairly small, the self-contained separate apartment was clean, comfortable and provided adequate amenities.

Our room was upstairs and as this is a very historic property, the stairs were a little narrow and steep. However once upstairs, very comfortable large bed, adequate kitchen area and a breakfast tray! Very modern bathroom but rest of room retained its historic features. Very comfortable and convenient for Hobart airport.

A great place to stay!

A great place to stay - a little different to your normal hotel or B&B which made it all the better. The owners were extremely friendly and the rooms were very clean and comfortable with really good wifi. The rooms are all different and pretty quirky. We had the attic room which was big and had a lovely seating area and our friends had the garden room which was a self contained little cottage which they loved - it was one of their favourite places of our 6 week trip.
Breakfast is included but is a little different to normal in the way that it's organised. It's delivered on a tray the night before and there is so much (cereals, fruit, meusli bars, interesting breads, waffles, croissants, chocolate bars, butter, marmalde, jam, vegemite, coffe and unusual tea bags e.g. Russian Caravan) that we often had enough left over to take with us as a mini picnic.
This place is highly recommended.

B&B full of history and character

The Officers' Barracks were built in 1827; there aren't many accommodation places in Australia which are older than this! We stayed in an upstairs loft, which was spacious and comfortable; bathroom was modern! The stairs up to the lofts are steep and narrow, so if you have mobility problems you'd be best to stay in one of the downstairs rooms. The hosts were very friendly, and gave us peaches and almonds from the property. We only stayed 1 night (as we were flying out the next day; 10 km from the airport). Next time we'll stay longer; great location handy to all the attractions of the Hobart region.

This is a real find. Lovely old buildings (c.1827), renovated in keeping with the period. We stayed one night only, selecting Sorell Barracks mainly for its location in relation to Port Arthur, where we spent our last day in Tasmania, and Hobart Airport - only 15 minutes away. The detached cottage was great: clean, comfortable, a nice garden setting, and with plentiful, excellent provisions for breakfast. The only quibble was the really small TV which could get just 2 channels. Great value also, and all told one of the best places we stayed in the state.

We booked suddenly, but our hosts were charming and friendly. The building dates from 1827 and we were given a tour through one of the larger apartments to see the fittings and layout. Sorrel is close enough to Hobart and the airport, but equally far enough away that you feel relaxed.

The attention to detail in decor & what is provided is excellent. The bed was comfortable (though we are not used to sleeping in a double!) and the breakfast very generous. The history of the buildings is wonderful to experience & location was great for quick access to the airport.
