We had a good stay. Plenty of parking on the property. The common toilets and showers for the budget options may not suit everyone, but it’s great for the price. The restaurant and pub downstairs offer big meal servings; the only place open until 8:30pm. Lots of coffee places around. Staff are excellent. Pretty old town.

We stayed in The Vine room which is not part of the original hotel but in a structure to the side of the hotel. The bathroom was modernised but otherwise it was dated decor. That said, it was clean and fine all round.

The accommodation we stayed in were converted stables. The rooms were well appointed, recently decorated and warm (we stayed in winter). The accommodation is annexed to the hotel. The hotel is the epitome of a country pub with traditional pub fair, eight ball and friendly locals in their seats at the bar. Not a refined experience but everything we were after, we were comfortable, fed well and welcomed.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I was not expecting much but the room was a really good size with a dining table and 2 seater couch. I loved the unusual angular shape of the ceiling and the “window to the sky” was a cool idea. The bed was very comfortable and location was great, in the main st Richmond. We had the private ensuite room and it was up a few stairs so I was glad we did not have too much luggage! The attached bistro had good meals and was a popular spot.

If you were riding your horse all day in 1893 and needed a bed for the night then the Richmond Arms would be perfect. Just basic rooms with squeaky beds and squeaky floors. Highlight was the shared shower rooms with excellent water pressure. Food in restaurant was great pub grub. Staff very pleasant.

The hotel is quiet and affordable, BUT .. black mould in shower & bathroom , no plug for the bath( would have been lovely for this old man), plus bedroom was stuffy.. window locked & dirty with cobwebs/ bird droppings to look at .

One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. The carpet was filthy, the room had 4 chairs but no tea/coffee facilities or fridge. The staff gave me no information. When I went down at 8.40pm to request the WiFi password, I promptly discovered every door was locked and I was trapped inside! Miserable night - no food, no internet and left as early as I could! Shower was good though.

I spent half an hour trying to get the aircon working (googled the manual) before telling the hotel staff it was faulty. They knew nothing about the accom and could not help. This accommodation is located in a beautiful old hotel. The rooms are very basic but very clean, with a shared bathroom. We wanted to stay in old hotels so it was perfect for us. Located in the heart of town, you can walk to everything. The hotel provides lovely pub style meals. The only issue for us was there was no fridge (so we just used that food straight away) and no breakfast on site (but cafes a short stroll away)

We arrived at 9 pm and though were told about the keybox, when we got the key there was no room number, had to ring an emergency number provided which was answered by a fellow that had stopped working there 18months ago, but at least he kindly/ told us how to find the room, there was no lighting outside it so we couldn't have found it without him.

Initially ignored at the bar, then a lovely staff member helped us check in. Never saw a staff member or cleaner after that. Double bed was small, but the linen was clean but mattress very old. Zero airflow so tried to open a window and found more spiderwebs than Charlotte’s web. Blinds were filthy and didn’t work. Taps are not secured in the shower, but it has a lovely view across the mountains when you open the window slats. Bathroom had no light globe. The shower room had a bunch of insects stuck to the ceiling. Carpets were dirty and dusty and the floor creaked more than aunt Ethel‘s hips from 1825. Stairwells are thin and very steep to carry bags up. Great location, right in the middle of the town and good parking. You do get what you pay for, but with some regular cleaning this would’ve been a much better stay for my sinuses.

The stables rooms could be so much better, sofa was grubby, the odour of staleness when open the door, furnishings need an upgrade.

Shared bathrooms were NEVER cleaned in three days. Shower taps are broken, handsoap was never refilled (during a pandemic), showers were covered in dead and dried out gnats, one of the showers had mouse faeces in it. The rooms smelled foul and the carpets were sticky and stained. The windowsill looked like it had never been cleaned. I've stayed in plenty of pub hotels but this was the only time I have genuinely been very fearful for my own health and wellbeing.
