This was a great stay for our family. Two adults and 3 kids (two teens and a preteen) fit comfortably in one of the larger rooms. The rooms were simple, but clean and a great base for exploring the Lake District. Staff was very friendly and Breakfast was wonderful!

I'd consider this hotel for last-minute bookings or budget-friendly options, but be aware that the rooms may not match the pictures. Unfortunately, our room had stained bed sheets, noticeable cobwebs, and visible signs of spiders in various corners. My daughter was frightened by the spiders and refused to sleep in her bed. I had to remove them myself, which was unpleasant. Additionally, room service isn't available 24/7, closing around 10 PM, so assistance isn't an option late at night. It is 20 somthing minutes drive by car from lake district bational park so if you have children you would consider taking a closer accomodation, I booked two nights but checked out after the first night.

It is an Inn/pub with dirty carpets and sticky tables in the dinning area. The food is nothing to write home about and although generous it is tasteless.
The rooms are cramped with views to the car park.
The room cleaning was good with a clean toilet but the carpets and other surfaces require attention.

We had some money off since last minute, it really is not worth the full price.

Bedrooms are opposite the pub, across the car park.
My room was on ground floor between both men room, in a corner.
Lighting in corridor did not work, making entering the room a vulnerable experience.
Door to room did not have peep hole nor inside lock or chain.
When paying for my meal barmaid asked for my room number. I explained I did not have a tab open. She said she had to have the room number. Bar was full of men, I had to state I was not giving out my room number in a bar full of men I did not know.
That silenced the whole area. Wrote my room number on a pad.

We stayed in a large family room with lots a space for a family of 5. The room was large and clean bathroom was good size and clean kids all had there own beds my only issue was our bed was a little on the hard side for me but everyone’s preferences are different so I wouldn’t necessarily mark it down on this. Breakfast in the morning was lovely and I would highly recommend this place to anyone staying in the area. We will be back again for sure.

We arrived and were shown to our room and I unpacked. Then my partner discovered that the volume control on the tv didn't work! We repoerted it and were immediately offered another room of the same standard. It was a nuisance to have to gather up our belongings again but couldn't be helped. Staff apologised profusely and offered to help with luggage. Room was good as was shower. Dinner was very enjoyable though the restaurant was busy and we waited a while to order. It was a Saturday night so this was understandable. Service at breakfast was prompt and a very good choice. My Eggs Benedict were excellent and my partner's Cumbrian Breakfast was enormous! The hotel was quietly situated and convenient for exploring the lakes and Solway Coast. Staff were pleasant throughout our stay and we'd return if in the area.

Excellent food, excellent room and very good location for my needs BUT no wifi in room. After multiple restarts of the kit and three conversations in two days I was left with the clear impression that the walls in room 1 (courtyard suite) are too thick for the Wi-Fi to reach… this is the only negative in a lovely room and hotel, but meant I couldn’t work and have calls in the office of the room as planned, and had to sit in the reception / lobby instead.

Pleasant place to stay and located in a quiet area. The rooms are immaculately clean, warm and have everything you need. The staff are friendly and the breakfast is nice and fresh with ample choice.
We have stayed twice at this location, although we prefered the seperate annex, rather than the main building. We were in room 8 on our last visit. It is above the dining room, so was rather noisy on an evening and during breakfast time. The room itself was lovely, but soundproofing could be better.

Made an error on the date for booking, I booked the Thursday instead of the Tuesday. I tried to change as soon as I got the confirmation , room cost was the same price and same room was available. Hotel refused and wanted to charge me the full £77 to book the other room. Tried to say it was hotels.com that insisted on the charge however this was a lie, it was at the hotels discretion. (Confirmed by the hotel)

We thoroughly enjoyed a 4 day stay at the Old Ginn House Inn. The staff were very welcoming and throughout our stay made sure we had everything we needed. They went the extra mile, when at short notice we asked to have a meal table for 16 people and they did this without any problem. We ate at the Old Ginn House Inn three times on separate evenings and found every meal was expertly produced and tasted wonderful. We ate a breakfast every morning and once again the the food was wonderful, in particular we can fully recommend the Cumberland Sausage fried breakfast which was truly filling and certainly set you up for the day. The accommodation was fine although the 'classic' room was a little small and the bed and pillows were rather hard. That said it was a very pleasant stay and the cleaning staff did a great job. Overall this was a great place to stay and we will visit again next time we are in the Lake District. We would, without hesitation, recommend the Old Ginn House as a super place to stay and it is run by a very efficient, polite and helpful staff.

This was a really great place to stay and explore the Cumbrian coast and very near the Lakes too. Cockermouth is just a couple of miles away and a lovely picturesque place. The Inn was spotless and all staff were really friendly. The food was excellent pub grub too.

I stayed during the Covid restrictions and the hotel did all they could to make the stay both safe within the rules and as welcoming/normal as usual.
Check in was easy and quick. The restaurant was closed due to the Covid rules but room service was readily available and excellent quality.

Fabulous! Clean, comfortable and caring. Beds quite firm, mattress toppers would be a nice touch. Fixed headboard squeaks at the slightest movement but im nit picking as otherwise an absolutely perfect place to stay. Very accomadatting for our children too, especially at the restaurant,.. We'll be back ☺

A very mixed bag. Cleanliness OK but room not always fully serviced (no loo paper one day and holder falling off wall). Breakfasts generally good, dinner varied on the two nights we ate in, with excellent fish and chips but very disappointing sausage in Yorkshire pudding (pudding rock hard and vegetables overcooked and tasteless). Staff friendly but one is left with a feeling that perhaps they need more training and supervision. Busy with locals in the evening which can make it noisy.

Second time I have stayed and the hotel is very consistent. You need to be patient checking in as the staff are also running the bar and restaurant.

Terrible room, can hear every little noise in all rooms near by and above. Service is shocking, food is poor, microwaved and over priced. Breakfast is so slow that I had to leave, 30mins wait for poached eggs on toast, could wait longer so had to leave with no breakfast.

The location was perfect for my objectives. All the staff were friendly and attentive.
The attic room was huge and well equipped, even with a trouser press. Staircase was narrow for larger or less able guests to drag up a suitcase.
I stayed for 2 nights and dinner both nights was great, as were the breakfasts. Don't miss the cumberland sausages.
