Staying at Willington Hall was a lovely experience in terms of hospitality, nothing was too much trouble for the team. However, our room wasn't the cleanest. The four poster bed was extremely dusty and the windows were full of cobwebs, dead and living spiders. Dead flies, were on both the windows sills and floor to the bathroom. I did complain about this upon leaving and received an apology. The hotel is really lovely, just disappointed about our room.

Excellent food. Fabulous service from reception, bar and restaurant. Beautiful location with amazing views. Friendly hospitable staff. Plenty of parking. Room was comfortable and spacious. It’s an old building with the related issues (you’d creak a bit if you were that old!). The breakfast buffet was limited however the cooked breakfast food more than made up for this. The evening meals were outstanding. We were part of a group of 6 and none of us were disappointed with the choice or quality.

Lovely Hotel for a Countryside Getaway!

Wonderful peaceful location. Attractive gardens. Ideally located for our visit to Donald McCain stable visit and Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre. Spacious rooms were clean and comfortable. We enjoyed an excellent dinner at the Hotel. and there was a good choice of Breakfast included.
Intend to come again when we're next in the area!

A luxury break in the Cheshire Countryside

Very pleasant overnight stay at this attractive hotel. We had a large comfortable and well-appointed room with lovely views. Staff were very friendly and looked after us well. We stayed on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. We had an excellent dinner in the stylish dining room. Despite poor weather we thoroughly enjoyed our break at Willington Hall.

Double bed 4ft 6ins ridiculously small in 2021 particularly for £200 per night. Gardens partly neglected and need more maintenance. Parts of property look scruffy and need maintaining properly. Several guests with dogs in the rooms of the main building and public areas not acceptable. Breakfast arranged early but eventually served half hour later at normal time. Young staff friendly but very inexperienced. Nice people but do not seem to appreciate the standard required from a better class hotel. Far, far too expensive for what it is.

The staff were so friendly at Willington Hall, there was nothing they could have done to make our stay more confortable. The room was huge and beautiful. There was a travel cot already in place for our son and we were offered fresh milk if he needd it. The restaurant was clpsed, as it was a Sunday evening, but the bar menu was extensive and offered food that I would have been happy with in any hotel restaurant! There is nothing negative to say about our stay, and it was excellent value for money! We will definitely be back!

Amazing hotel but let down by staff

The hotel was in a really beautiful area, easy to get to and looked amazing all round. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We only stayed for one night but found the staff were a bit unhelpful. The reason for our stay was only one night before going to the Chester marathon, which we had to be at before 8 to get a car parking space. I was told on sundays that breakfast started at 8 so I asked if we could possibly have a bag as breakfast had already been paid for. The staff helpfully offered this service and said I would receive it in ‘10-15 mins at about 20:45 but I didn’t receive the bag till 22:30 by which point I was wanting to sleep as we had to be up early but instead was waiting for the breakfast bag.

As we had to leave early I understood something needed to be arranged for checkout. I was leaving at 7 o’clock in the morning and was told I didn’t need to pay the night before and could pay at 7 the next morning.

I waited between 7-7:20 but there appeared to be no staff nearby and had to leave and pay over the phone later on where I was told that checkout is actually at 8 on a sunday.

I feel as though it’s a shame because the hotel appeared to be amazing but these incidents were more stressful than relaxing and I feel let the hotel down in my eyes for our stay

Full of character.
Lovely view from bathroom too - ample toiletries supplied.
Ate in restaurant for evening meal - excellent.

Charming country house hotel

I chose the honeymoon suite for my husbands 70th birthday overnight surprise stay. It was delightful. Spacious and stylish - yes a little dated but it took nothing away from the comfort and look of the place. The views around are stunning and we will return when the weather is better to take in the splendid grounds.

very disappointing stay, would not visit again

Hotel was very cold, asked to move room and the member of staff was quite rude. everything was shabby, tiles broken in bathroom, tap broke in bathroom and held in place with toilet roll! Hot water only lukewarm.

This is definitely not a 4 star hotel, it would struggle to get 2 stars, very over priced and reception staff rude if you complain.

An amazing relaxing overnight stay. From the time we stepped in the door until we left the car park on our departure the staff were absolutely attentive to our needs but knew when to give us our space. We had a fabulous time at the hotel. The hotel was clean and warm with really nice welcoming staff - everyone had time for you. Lovely atmosphere and dog friendly as stated on the site. It is located in a lovely scenic garden with plenty of room and space for the dogs to run around. Ideally located and very country like - we love it. The room was excellent, spacious and clean. Both dinner and breakfast were really good quality and reasonable pricing as well.
We will go back for another break for sure and can only score it top marks : -)

Quiet Country Hotel

At the last minute we wanted a hotel near Oulton Park for the Easter Monday motor racing and came across Willington Hall. Arriving we found parking a little tricky, but that was because of the Easter Sunday lunch guests. Once they had left the car park had plenty of space.

The welcome was warm and the staff attentive and informative. The room was a delight, huge and with views over the Cheshire countryside. It was decorated in keeping with the style of house and well appointed.

We had dinner in the hotel which was good quality and reasonably priced. We managed to get breakfast a little before the stated times because of our need to get out early in the morning.

All in all it was a pleasant stay and we will return the next time we need a hotel in the area.

Fantastic hotel!

Stayed as a stop off when travelling North. Gorgeous hotel, staff very attentive and extremely friendly. A great hotel, just a shame it was only for one night and on my own. Food was excellent, and breakfast huge and of the highest quality! Hope to return with the family soon.

Fabulous - Loved this place so Homely

We were in the area as a mini break and booked in for the one night, after a short while we decided to stretch it to two. This should tell you enough.
The building is amazing, the grounds are good too but the main reason we loved this place was the staff. We were welcomed by a lovely young lady who was so helpful and all the staff after this could not do enough. One person stood out and was so helpful and friendly but at all times kept his professionalism and that was Drew.
The Hotel itself is not 100% perfect but only enough to stop it having the sterile feeling that a lot of big hotels have.
Next time, and we will be back my wife and daughter will bring their Horse Riding gear as there is a fab Riding school next door.

Willington Hall is just lovely. For the same (ish) price of staying in a soulless chain hotel, you can come here and enjoy the comfort and grandeur of an English country house.
The staff were great and my breakfast was delicious.
Business travel is often a chore but I came home feeling like I had had a mini holiday.

SMALL BUT NICE LITTLE PLACE AND COSY. LOCAL SOURCED FOOD IS THE HIGHLIGHT AND IS BY FAR EXCELLENT. MENU IS EXCELLENT AND REASONABLY PRICED AND WE HAD ROOM SERVICE AFTER TRAVELLING.ROOM WAS OK, BATHROOM NEWLY DONE AND EXCELLENT WITH A WALK IN SHOWER. FRIENDLY STAFF AND VERY HELPFUL AS WE FORGOT TOOTHPASTE WHICH THEY HAD IN RESERVE.

Booked hotel for a romantic night away before we went to Cheshire Oaks the following day.
Stayed in room 1 with four post bed. Large room with good views to front and left. Staff very welcoming , attentive and nothing appeared to be too much for them.
There were two Christmas meals happening but we heard no noise in our room and only realised there were other people in the hotel we we opened the doors to the stairs.
Decided to have the Christmas menu and didn't expect much but it was a very good quality meal. Breakfast was also very good.
Will definitely stay again.

A Little Gem

This place is my find of the year. In beautiful countryside, a lovely building in scenic gardens. It has all of its original character with all the modern features you would want. A delightful 3 night break.

If you're judging Willington Hall against the international chains you are doing the hotel a disservice. The hotel has a charming faded grandeur that you could only find in an English country house hotel. The building is magnificent and has a terrific history. The room was comfortable with a huge bed and high ceiling. The meals that the kitchen turns out are a real treat - the locally sourced sausages at breakfast are outstanding, as are the eggs benedict (the hollandaise sauce is exactly how I like it). Bar meals or dining room dinners are on offer, everything we had was of a uniform high standard - top quality ingredients accurately cooked. The jewel in Willington Hall's crown however, is their outstanding personnel, the experience was almost like visiting family. All in all a most enjoyable stay at a property that we recommend highly.

Great country house hotel

I stayed there on a hot midweek day in May, as I thought it would be great to get out of the usual corporate hotels for my business trip. Was richly rewarded with a great room (4 poster bed), and excellent breakfast. My only niggle was that the bathroom looked a bit tired, and needed refreshing, but this is really minor in the scheme of things. I wanted to go walking in the surrounding countryside, but the guy on duty couldn't help with that. Luckily another guest directed me to the local pub where I could pick up a walking map for free. The bar accommodated my very late meal request which was great. The Receptionist the next day - who also served me breakfast - was very engaging and helpful.
I would definitely recommend and look forward to returning.
