Jose' was super helpful with anything we needed. Johnny of the spot. View is nice around the area with really good restaurants within walking distance. The sleeping area could use a lamp. The overhead lights are a bit harsh for that area. There were a couple dogs that would be barking late into the night sometimes,10-11:30 PM .

Very great lodge with big room and nice size kitchen and living/dining area. Bathroom can take some improvements. Outside sunset and rainbow views are awesome. Birds were amazing too of various colors ( yellow, orange and blue).
We were satisfied with the pricing and conditions. Night time dark sky with many stars was also a great touch.

WOW!

This was a welcome respite from the over-touristy areas I had previously traveled through in CR. Jose was wonderful and easily accessible. The property was very clean and well-maintained, had a spectacular view, and was a quick drive to the biological reserve. I only had two nights and wish I had more! I absolutely recommend this property.

A small, but mighty property!! This family run property only has 3 units, however, very much worth a stay in Monteverde. The cabins are clean, comfortable and spacious. As an added bonus, the location is perfect for a Monteverde sunset. Jose is a perfect host as well!!

We recommend this property for families visiting Monteverde. We booked the 6-person suite, which was located in its own cabin.

Jose, the owner, was very responsive and easily accessible via Whatsapp.

Regarding the property, the mirador (looking point) shelter is a real selling point; while other tourists need to stand alongside the road and fight for parking to watch the sunset, Bella Vista Lodge guests may view it peacefully from the comfort of a covered and exclusive shelter. It is also possible to view the sunset directly from the 6-person cabin porch. Considering the remoteness of Monteverde, we found the cabin clean and practical. The dish and plates were a bit sparse but workable for 4 people.

The property is a 5-10 minute drive away from the central mall of the town where there are grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, etc. It is also immediately next to a gas station. It is about 15 minutes to the cloud reserve parking lot.

Laundry service is available for $5 per kg; Jose collected our clothes during the evening and returned them the next morning before check out.

The lodge is in a convenient position with only a 10 minute walk uphill to the town shops anf restaurants. The owner was very helpful about arranging tours and advice around the area. Unfortunately, the rooms were very damp with the internal walls wet to touch. All clothes became damp, even those left in bags. A dehumidifier was put in the room but it was not large enough to cure the damp. Please note that our stay was during a period of exceptional rainfall as a result of Storm Sara so that our experience may not be normal.

Great stay!

We believe it’s family owned. Very friendly and helpful if you need anything. The area is a little secluded which is nice and quiet. Step out of your room and a great view is waiting for you. I was told during the dry season, the sunset will be right in front of you. Place is comfortable. No AC, then again, just open your windows to let the air in. You’re on top of a mountain anyway. Not sure if it’s the rainy season, but there were bugs outside. Turn off your lights so they don’t come to your door. Breakfast was delivered to our rooms in the morning. Overall, would stay again if ever. It’s also a 5minute or less drive to the town.

Gem in Monteverde. Rustic cabins.

What we liked the most:
Scenery: Amazing view of the valley and lots of birds if you wake up early. When clouds disperse, you can see the Pacific and the Gulf of Nicoya. Mesmerizing. Budget some time to just drink in the scenery.
Hospitality: Jose is a hands on host and is responsive to your every need. Getting breakfast hand delivered to you in the morning by his Mom was a highlight every morning.
Location: Perfect. On the edge of Monteverde, close to Curi Cancha reserve and the Monteverde Cloud Forest park and many attractions that we missed. Walking distance to restaurants and a nice supermarket.

Just to give american travelers an idea of the cabins themselves, they are very similar to state park cabins. Rustic and out there. We had a comfortable stay there.

Greeted by name when i arrived.Comfortable room close to Curi Cancha and a waterfall. Walkable to restaurants and the Centro Commercial for the bus, about 1k.
Family run, and breakfast was served in my room at a scheduled time. I liked the place a lot. Great view from a small covered viewing area.

Great place with awesome service!

This was a really nice place just past downtown Santa Elena. There is a beautiful view from here (hence the name Bella Vista). The rooms are small but very comfortable. They have really good mattresses on the beds making for a good nights sleep. The bathrooms are large and clean, with good hot water.

The WiFi in the rooms is very stable and very fast!

What really makes this place is the service. This is a family run business with the mother making the breakfast which is brought to your room. The son, Jose, runs the front office and is very friendly and helpful. He helped to arrange tours for us and gave great recommendations for restaurants and helped sort us out when we needed some medical assistance, re-booking the tours etc...

We would not hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to others.

Location was walking distance to restaurants and shopping which was nice after lots of driving this vacation. Having breakfast brought to our cabin is a nice touch and it was typical Costa Rican breakfast. Good value for your money.

All of the staff were very friendly and full of knowledge. The facilities are definitely showing their age. The mattresses were old and a little lumpy. Had to get rid of many cockroaches during our three day trip. Breakfast was included everyday which was a nice surprise.
Overall staff was very friendly, location is good, but would not stay there again unless several things were changed.

This is a very rustic hotel and for the price I think it's a good deal. Breakfast included, just order fruit, we could not eat other stuff, very poor quality. For the price I would say it's a pretty good deal. View from the room was beautiful but the spot the hotel is located is in open space where there's constant wind and element that makes it hard to relax for us. I saw few other hotels that are more enclosed by woods and felt more cozy. Monteverde is very windy due to it's geographic location and gets extremely cold at night which we did not expect. So I think we would have had a better time if we staid in more cozy location. However, the hotel owner was so attentive and ready to help with everything you need, we appreciated it so much. I had a minor accident and needed some ice but because the nearby stores were all closed for the night he drove into town to get some ice for me. What a wonderful person!!! thank you so much!!!

Temper ur expectations & you won’t be disappointed

Clean, basic/adequate, reasonably comfortable room with a SPECTACULAR view of the Gulf of Nicoya in the distance. Owner José is congenial and accommodating; will gladly help with local tourist arrangements.

Room (“cabina”) lacked AC and heat. At
mountain altitude, AC wasn’t needed, but a bit of heat would’ve made cool, damp evening more comfortable. Water in shower and sink was only lukewarm; encouraged a QUICK wash-up. Single bulb in ceiling fixture, no table lamp for reading/writing. No room-darkening shades, so sunlight will help you wake up.

No dining facilities on premises, but owner Jose’s mother will cook a basic breakfast ($8 pp), which will be delivered to your room. More than a hostel but clearly not a fancy place; we enjoyed our one-night, modestly-priced stay while focusing on the many nearby attractions in the Monteverde area.

View is great from both the room and the overlook. Easy to find and good location in relation to sights and town. Jose at front desk was extremely helpful in all aspects (including the booking of tours). Room was functional and very clean. Water pressure could have been better and hand towels would be nice. Listing in Expedia is correct except there was not coffee in room (just cups and saucers and a microwave). The place fully met my needs.

Loved the place. Really small, only 5 rooms and the owner was so friendly. The lodge has a great view overlooking the forest and it's pretty close to both the city center and the cloud forest preserve. No frills, but everything was clean and worked.

My boyfriend and I loved our stay at Bella Vista! Great location - about a 10 minute walk from downtown, so it is convienent, but you are away from the noise. The cabin was very comfortable and clean. The owner Jose was very friendly and extremely helpful in booking tours and planning our stay. We ordered breakfast one morning and it was delicious. We loved it - hope to return one day!

Best sunset view from the windows and front yard! If weather is nice you can see all the way to Nicoya Gulf. Good landscaping and quiet surroundings...has refrigerator, coffee machine and TV, but no vanity top to put toiletry bag...
But hotel is far from main mall where restaurants, shops & bus stop are. Room was drafty, you can feel the wind. Thin wall that you can hear everything about your next door neighbor.
The owner Jose is very nice and helpful, take notes about what need to improve. Hopefully it'll have better condition when we visit again.

Perfect spot for budget minded travelers in a wonderful but pretty expensive area. Clean, cute and comfortable. Spectacular sunset views. Best of all, Jose is extremely helpful at every turn. Just remember to shower quickly. The water is very hot, for a little while.

Felt like home!

I just want to start out by saying you should ignore any negative reviews the facility may have previously gotten! Jose the owner was amazing and went above and beyond. Any sort of activity we wanted to do Jose coordinated It for us. The location was great for the price with amazing views and a great set up if you want to cook food instead of going out. If I go back I will definitely stay here again. You won't be disappointed with the quality of service here. Pura vida!
