The staff did a great job. However, the chairs when you check in are ridiculous. They’re like 100 years old. They need to put something else in there. Also, for the quality of hotel this is you would expect hot water in the bathrooms. It was very difficult to get hot water or lukewarm.

Superior room was truly superior. The place is spotless and the amenities are truly fitting for a luxury hotel. But those physical aspects pale in comparison to the incredible staff. They go out of their way to help with EVERYTHING! I can seriously say I’ve never had better service than all aspects of the Esplanade.

We needed two rooms as we are a family of 5. They gave us connecting rooms, it was a great setup. Unlike most hotels the rooms were different, each with its own character. Breakfast was very good. Location as well. Would definitely stay here again.

We loved this hotel, great location. We had a large wonderful room overlooking the fountain with a very comfy bed. The room was serviced every day and the staff were all very helpful. We went for the advent festivities and it didn't disappoint. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on this. If we had any negatives at all it would be the hairdryer in the drawer which was very difficult to use

Beautiful hotel with excellent service. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast in the restaurant includes a wonderful buffet spread and items made to order. There are some beautiful parks and museums close by, and old town Zagreb is just a few blocks away.

We booked 3 nights in Zagreb. We found out that our flight was cancelled due to airline strike and we had to leave a day early.

The hotel was not willing to consider a partial refund, not even the 2 days of breakfasts that were prepaid.

Our stay was affected by a dignitary party staying while we were there (president of Montenegro for a soccer match). This made the experience less pleasant with staff and many guards in the sitting areas and guarding elevators and doors.

We travel a fair amount and have not had an experience like this before staying in a luxury hotel where staff and management not willing to consider any adjustment to our bill. Would not recommend this hotel in the future.

Very disappointed in lack of support from Expedia.

Very nice hotel. All the staff was friendly and helpful with dinner reservations. The hotel location was great for walking to site seeing attractions. The only thing I did not care for was when we were in the lounge one night there were a couple of people with their dogs. For such a nice hotel I did not expect to see dogs.

The Bistro restaurant stood out - the staff was amazingly friendly and the food really good compared to the Esplande one where it felt like there had been a conflict or something as some staff was quite curt and looked very serious. It also took a long time to get served. For breakfast, we just felt that compared to other 5 star hotels - and this is a very small detail, but the cappucino was bleak and we missed the sweet cinnamon/cardemom hearts etc that usually come on top. Overall though, the experience was very positive and we could envision coming back.

I had a truly wonderful experience at the Esplanade in Zagreb! This iconic hotel, with over 100 years of history, is beautifully maintained and exudes timeless elegance. The staff were exceptional—especially the concierge and reception team, who were both professional and genuinely friendly.

Its location is ideal for travelers: just steps from the main train station and within easy reach of the bus terminal. The charming old town is a pleasant 15–20 minute walk away. Room service was prompt and satisfying, adding to the overall comfort of the stay.

In short, the Esplanade is a place I’d gladly return to—and I’ll be recommending it to all my friends.

This hotel was centrally located and walking distance to everything I needed. All of the staff were lovely and attentive. The room was large, clean, and the bed was comfortable. The restaurant featured fine dining in the evening and beautiful breakfast options.

This hotel had an art deco vibe and top notch service and while it may not be modernized like so many new basic hotels I appreciated the old school elegance and attention to detail that newer hotels lack. I would absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a classy stay.

The elegant, well-maintained 100 year old Hotel Esplanade offers great comfort and many services. I did have some frustrations. I never found phone numbers for hotel services. I had to find the main number for the hotel and then was able to be connected. The afternoon I arrived, after a long drive, I would have enjoyed the publicized tea, but alas it was only for two and I was solo.

This was the most frustrating part of our stay.The hotel is very clean but outdated. We enjoy traditional, European style accommodations but the hotel feels tired. We ended our Croatian trip in Zagreb and thoroughly enjoyed the old world charm that Hotel Esplanade offered. The property itself is gorgeous, warm and inviting. Like everywhere in Croatia, the staff were wonderful.

And, you have plenty of shopping and dining options within walking distance. Overall, this was our favorite hotel and deserves 6 out of 5 stars.

The property is gorgeous and staff is very friendly. One of the nights there was a very loud party downstairs that continued till 11 pm, despite of quiet hours starting at 10 . It was hard to sleep , especially when you are jet lagged . I called the front desk and they kept saying they can’t do much as they have permissions . May be be cognizant of other guests before permitting anyone to have such loud parties on the premises this late
