This hotel is incredible! The prices are fantastic for what you get. I stayed in one of the apartments and the view is amazing, the town is quaint, and it’s very close to a beautiful hike. The staff was also very very friendly. I wish I had more time to explore, but everything was amazing!

Large apartment recently renovated. Had what we needed and was a great place to take a couple of days off the beaten path. Located on the one street through town there was a bit of traffic noise, but it didn’t bother us.

We stayed in 6 different places while in Iceland. This place tied for first! We had 3 bedrooms! We enjoyed the extra space. It included a refrigerator, microwave, stove. We cooked pasta there. They had a free breakfast each morning that included rolls, jam, fresh cucumbers, Tomatoes, baked beans. Hard boiled eggs. It also included use of the pool which was about a 3 min walk away with 2 hot tubs and slides(we did not try those).

We had a great view of the fjord from our room and balcony. The room had a full kitchen but we did not use it. Off-street parking was available behind the hotel but filled up quickly. We were easily able to find parking right in front of the hotel and there is additional free parking across the street. The area is very quiet and safe. We had breakfast included in the restaurant on the first floor, which had breads, cheeses, fruits, yogurts, pastries and boiled eggs. The dinner was amazing and we really enjoyed the seafood options (monkfish, etc.). The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Decent Harbor Hotel

Hildibrand is on the eastern coast of Iceland. It was a pleasant stay for a family of five. There was ample bedding including the sofa bed. The exterior of the hotel is starting to look a little run down. They should fix that up. The interior, at least the room we had, is comfortable. Nothing modern or anything but good. The in-hotel restaurant deals with a lot of fish options so the whole hotel has that seafood air about it, including that it sits facing the harbor. If you can deal with that, it's a decent hotel.

Beautiful location. There is no elevator, so big suitcases up stairs can be an issue. We’re from US, so we’re not used to some of the set ups here. Getting to our room was a little awkward, but once we figured it out, it was all ok. Breakfast was also down the street at another hotel, we just ended up not going after we paid for it.

In short, fantastic!

This apartment is huge, like having your own home, complete with a full sized loving room & reading nook, full sized kitchen and even some candlelight’s & multiple holders to add ambience. Our Aussie host was effusively welcoming & wonderful. The place does need some love - outside the apartment is desolate, and has shaky door handle & my husband had to adjust bit leaky water in bathroom.. so hopefully they bring in a handyman, as the place is special & deserves the love. And the nearby bait house restaurant / love shack on the harbor owned by the hotel w rotating top chefs from Reykjavík is worth the stay alone.. absolutely fantastic!

Buyer beware. As of August 2021, there was no restaurant in the hotel (not like the website says). The room also had issues- 1/2 the lights in the room lacked lightbulbs. Outlets were papered over with a sign saying “do not use, not in working order”. Holes in wall of bathroom where a plumbing fixture used to be.

Most hilarious- a sign over the sink saying “you are free to leave us dirty dishes but we will charge you a little bit more”. Apparently skimping on lightbulbs does not get you a corresponding discount…

Pros: scenery is beautiful. Local municipal pool is nice (and with far better showers!). The place could be nice with some basics (get an electrician in, replace lightbulbs, and reopen a restaurant— or remove the ads for the restaurant from the website)

The property was a mix of updated and older. We stayed in a suite. The bed was very hard. The toilet did not work despite the staff's effort to fix it. They told us it had been a problem before. The website didnt inform us that the restaurant and bar were closed. We stayed in small towns along the circle previous to this hotel and their restaurants were open and serving.

Spacious, Clean, and Apartment-Like

This is a great place to stay... with minor qualifiers.

PROS
1. The apartment we had was truly an apartment. HUGE! Also clean, well stocked w/ dishes, utensils, cookware, a big fridge, microwave. There's a dining area, separate bedroom, living room, & ENORMOUS kitchen. A family of 4 could live there for MONTHS. The place was so big, when we walked in, I said, \"I think this is a mistake.\"
2. The view is an OMG, breathtaking, WOW view of the fjord literally across the street! (front street). This alone is worth the price.
3. The place is a short 5 minute drive to a series of trails/waterfalls — feel free to spend all day there enjoying creation and taking pictures.

CONS
1. The outside is drab, especially where you drive around back to enter the building housing the apartments. It was CLEARLY once a residential building that had the apartments remodeled into a hotel. Unfortunately, they did little to make the outside match the inside. It was so drab, especially in the back area & the back entrance, for a moment I thought, \"Uh-Oh, this doesn't look promising.\" But then, once inside the actual unit, it was fine.
2. An odd thing: There's actually a sign in the kitchen above sink saying, \"You're more than welcome to leave dirty dishes, but for a a small fee.\" My wife thought it was a joke. But I guess they actually charge you if you leave dirty dishes. Not cool. I'm on vacation from work, the city.... AND FROM DISHES.

We had a room on the 3rd floor but there was no elevator. It was kind of a pain to drag all the luggage up. The room was a little too dark (not enough lighting). The room is also a little dated. The view from our room was great though.

Charming hotel room on the main road of the village

Cute little fishing town. Hotel lobby and restaurant are whimsical. Hotel room style. On the main strip on the village.

We had access to the pool which we didn’t have time to use in our schedule but it was a nice touch.

We ate at the restaurant and had an amazing meal. Fresh local ingredients. Layered flavours. So good.

It was actually one bedroom apartment which was spacious, clean and well furnitured/maintained.
The view was very nice and I liked the heated swimming pool very much which was one minute walk from the hotel and free access was granted to the hotel guests. Grocery stores are nearby and very convenient.

Great property, great little town. Charming and centralized right on the sea.

Perfect location, everything you need right across the street or within a block or two. Charming museum across the street. We stayed in a regular double in the building right next door to the main hotel. Well appointed and very comfy, with coffee service in the shared main area. Town swimming pool/hot tubs right behind hotel, gratis if you’re staying at the hotel. Only negatives are very tiny bathroom where the shower area includes the toilet and everything in the bathroom gets wet, and no hairdryer provided, although I’m sure if you asked for one they would get it for you. I imagine the apartment-style rooms are quite nice.

Reserved thinking I would get a good night rest in a quiet town after several days exploring Iceland. The hotel was quiet but there was a wedding reception and party on the night that I stayed. The celebration with loud music did not stop until 2:30AM in the morning. Also as others have mentioned room 104 still has a sewerage oder. On a positive note, you get free access to the public swimming pool 50m away.

Large, relaxing, apartment sized accommodation

We stayed two nights here in mid-May and enjoyed exploring the nearby sites. We had a huge second floor apartment that was very comfortable. The entrance to the room was on the back side, where you are at ground level on the second floor, and it was under construction, so the parking was a bit difficult but that was the only negative. The restaurant, in the lobby area, was excellent. The staff was very friendly and highly recommended, thankfully, that we check out the memorial for the victims of the 1974 avalanche that hit the town and the massive structures built to protect the town from future avalanches. Fascinating. Plenty of places to hike nearby, especially at the eastern edge of town.

Overall, the hotel was quite nice. The bedroom was comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped, there was a nice balcony looking out to the sea.
My only concern was lack of communication on the part of certain staff members. They gave out confusing information which wasted our time. Also, they did not notify me about the free breakfast that was provided...I only found out the last day I was there.
Otherwise, I enjoyed my stay here.

The hotel is currently under construction and that was not communicated to us until a few hours prior to check in. We were given incorrect information regarding check in which led to some confusion. We were also given the wrong room. We had to ask 3 different staff members the wifi password because we were given the wrong one. The pictures are not accurate. Also, the rooms have no ventilation and are extremely hot and uncomfortable. I would not recommend staying here

the hotel is nestled into a beautiful bay - there's one road into this little lovely town and the drive is gorgeous. our check in guy was awesome - asked where we are from, how we are enjoying iceland and if there was any questions we had about the town. we were upgraded to an apartment for free and the view was gorgeous and came with a balcony. loved our stay here - you will too!

We ate at the hotel restaurant for dinner because it was open late and we got there at about 7pm and most things close early in Iceland. The food was fabulous - I highly recommend eating there because it was great. The apartment was good for what we needed, although the sofa bed's mattress was thinner than most sofa beds are.

Dishonest bait and switch

Beware - this is two adjacent properties with photos only for the good one. You may get the bad one next door. See photos for what that $200/night bad experience offers. Read other reviews to confirm this bait and switch. The one thing to their credit is that we were switched to the good building when I demanded a room in the property we were sold.

Booked an apartment for 3 but there was no extra bed catered for the 3rd. Had to settle for the sofa bed which we had to manually assemble ourselves. Body form and shampoo were not provided as well. Lackadaisical service which didn't match an otherwise nicely decorated and furnished apartment.

Big BIG disappointment...

We got to the hotel after long hours of drive and few nights camping hoping for a nice relaxing day in a beautiful place (this is how it seemed after reading reviews and description). We got accommodated in something that most likely used to be a boarding school room not big enough to even open our suitcase fully. The bathroom was a joke - not even shower cabin, just a shower and the hole in the floor. Above all, the room was simply super dirty - fee mm layer of dust + the window that most probably was last washed few years ago. What was supposed to be a great view was a quite busy and noisy street. All that unbelievably was called 3 or 4 stars hotel in a price for which I lately booked a 3* hotel in London city center. I would recommend the hotel manager to maybe visit a few-star hotel and see what kind of standard it is - especially in terms of cleanliness.
The only plus was that when I complained the staff was very nice, we got free breakfast that was very good. Anyway, would never recommend this place - unless the price is adjusted to the present standards.
