the hotel was ok, very out dated, the sandles for the room are the reusable kind and not the throwaway kind, kind of gross. Restroom had mold. The worst part was when I checked out at 10am and askd if I can leave my luggage for an hour ehile we got breakfast they charged me 500 yen per bag, they even charged for my backpack that was on the top of my luggage they said it counts as a bag. 2000 yen just for an hour, definitely won't recommend this place

Surprisingly quiet side street convenient to Shinjuku, two subway lines, and the blossom-filled Shinjuku Gyoen park. The room was clean and efficient. A 500 yen charge for luggage storage was the only surprise.

Everything was perfect but one member of the staff was very unkind.

Asked about Yamahato for luggage transport and he shooed me away, literally.

A couple of hours later, I wanted to give benefit of the doubt and tried to have nice, small talk. I asked about the minor earthquake and he said in his exact words: “in Japan, use Japanese language” VERY rudely! I always ask if they speak english and I have multiple translation apps on my phone ready but I assumed he was use to international tourists so it made me very upset. It honestly ruined my night, because his tone was very aggressive.

I saw him the next morning for checkout and prepared my translations to avoid upsetting him but he took my key quickly and said “thank you” and I left as quick as I could.

So just a heads up, this is the middle-aged man with black hair. I don’t want this to affect his job but I hope he can be trained better, all he had to say was no English instead of treating a customer poorly. The other two gentleman who both wore glasses were so lovely!

We only stayed here for one night but had no issues.

It’s far enough away from the shopping area that you can’t hear it but not too far to walk. It’s also only about a 5 minute walk to the underground for Shinjuku-Sanchome station, this doesn’t always appear as an option on Google maps.

The room was clean although quite small but we didn’t have suitcases with us so didn’t mind.

The staff were so lovely! We were able to borrow an umbrella when it rained and leave our luggage in the lobby before check in.

Overall I’d recommend staying at this hotel and if we ever return we’d definitely stay here again.

I’d highly recommend taking a walk to Gyoen National garden, a lovely walk with traditional Japanese gardens and only cost about £2 to get in. We were in there for about an hour but didn’t feel like it.

Great hotel in an amazing location!
This was the first hotel we stayed in, and couldn't believe how close we were to the heart of Shinjuku, it took 5-10 mins to get to the main Shinjuku area. What's great is that you're also far enough away to leave the madness there so it was really quiet when we wanted it to be.
You have every Konbini nearby, as well as a lot of great restaurants as well.
The room was small, but you can get by in it easy enough. Very clean and tidy, and had every thing you needed in there! Once you organise the space to how you need, the smaller size isn't an issue.
Staff were very helpful when we needed them, but we barely had to speak to them as everything was clean, tidy, and sorted the entire time!

The space was good for a hotel in Shinjuku Tokyo. Had the basic amenties like hair dryer, hair shampoo&conditioner and body wash, replacement toothbrushes and tooth paste etc. The problem was the small bathroom and the over tuned shower head that felt like a power washer when using it. It's ok hotel but there are better.

This was a fine hotel, very similar to other Tokyo hotels (like Apa and LiveMax) in terms of how the room was designed. The hotel itself was a little older than those more modern hotels, though this wasn't a problem as it was still quiet and clean. No problems or complaints, but it didn't blow me away, and I reserve 5 stars for places that amaze me.

Great hotel for a budget friendly stay in Shinjuku. The rooms are small which is normal for Japan. It is very close to Shinjuku-Sanchome, and Shinjuku-Gyoemae Metro stations making getting around Tokyo a breeze.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
This is not a high-end hotel so don’t expect gilded chandeliers and marble bathrooms but for a place to stay on a budget, it completely fits the bill.

When we were checking out we asked to leave our luggage for a couple hours, since check out was at 10:00. They said we could but they’d charge us 500 yen per bag! We had 3 smallish bags. I think that’s a little outrageous.

Location was 3 minutes walk from Sanchome Subway exit C7. Staff were welcoming and everything was fine.

The room heating temperature can only be set between 20C and 23C. Even at 20C, the room became too warm. So I had to switch off the heating, which then became a bit too cold at times.
It will also be good if hotel can provide umbrellas during rainy days.

I will still choose this hotel if I visit Tokyo again. Location was great.

Worth the price, despite small size

I booked this hotel as it was the cheapest option in Shinjuku that had a private room and bathroom, so to be fair with my rating, I must factor in the low price. I had a single room and double room. The single room has no space to stand even, for more than one person. The double room had a small bit of walking space. The bathrooms were very cramped. If you're large-sized, you may have trouble fitting inside. Everything was impeccably clean, as Japanese culture dictates. Fast internet. High-pressure hot shower. The hotel is old, but spotlessly clean. The location is a 12 mins walk away from the main area of Shinjuku. Didn't try the breakfast. Only one power outlet. Despite its tiny size, it's worth the price considering location and hotel prices in general. Just treat it as some place to crash at night, not spend time in. If you spend your daytime here (maybe a rest day), it'll feel like a prison cell.

The room was very small and different from the pictures shown. The staff cannot understand english which made it difficult for us to communicate. They are not very accomodating and even charged us an overpriced taxi reservation. Facilities are very out-dated. Bathroom is also very small that you can hardly move. They have no luggage storage which cost us so much inconvenience to push our luggages and pay lockers in the train station. This hotel is a big no for me.

Booked five other hotels in Japan for this trip, each reservation was for one room with one bed and one room with two beds. Only this hotel got upset that I had two people in a two bed room. Charged me an additional 30% over the already higher rate for the two bed room. The hotel is clean and in a good location but it is very old (bathroom fixtures were cracked and stained, carpet is worn and stained, furniture is worn and bed was very hard). I also had to take two elevators to get to a fourth floor room.

The hotel is within walking distance of Shinjuku Station. The bed was comfy although only a semi double. The rooms are quite small. We wanted a bed and a shower for the night and it was perfect for that

Hotel staff very friendly. Rooms emitted an odd and stale smell. Mould lined the bathroom door frames which could be potentially hazardous to visitor health. Furniture in rooms very outdated. Odd policy of leaving keys with hotel staff when leaving. Nonetheless, staff were very friendly, breakfast was well presented, traditional and tasty. Met what is expected of a budget hotel just perhaps more effort could be put toward the room amenities and long-term cleaning.

price, location, value!

For the price, you couldn't ask for better. I was initially concerned about walking to/from Shinjuku station but I ended up buying Tokyo subway tickets from the front counter of the hotel and using Shinjuku Sanchome station which is easier to travel around Tokyo anyway. Staff at front counter were always so happy and nice to us. I had the western breakfast one day, I was full most of the day from! I never had an issue sleeping in the bed which was really good size for singe person.

Good Value and Good Location in an Older Hotel

This place was a really good value in a great location: just a short walk to Shinjuku Station, an even shorter walk to Shinjuku Sanchome Station, and just a block away from Shinjuku Nichome, Tokyo's gay neighborhood! Some may claim it's bad merely because it's an old business hotel, but it did its job well.
PROS:
-Wifi was good, a rarity in Japan, especially with older hotels like this
-Bed was comfy and big enough for me (I'm 6'3\"/190cm)
-Quiet: Didn't see nor hear another guest while I was there (5 nights) save for the lobby plus street noise was minimal
-Overall, room was clean and well-equipped especially for a business hotel in Japan. While not big my any means, I was able to easily store 2 large suitcases out of the way, put all my clothes in the room's dresser and closet, and there was even a little fridge. The bathroom had all the amenities of a typical Japanese hotel (full bath, movable shower head, shampoo, body wash, toothbrush, yukata, etc.)
CONS:
-You can't bring ANYONE to your room AT ALL. One main reason I got a hotel was for \"privacy\". I understand not having someone stay overnight, but having NO ONE in my room for any amount of time was ridiculous.
-The hotel is two buildings and I was in the \"annex\" building. I had to take one elevator up to the second floor then walk a long hallway (with a low door that I hit my head on) to another elevator to access it. Needless to say, taking two large suitcases there was challenging, but I got used to it.

Hotel Tateshina is excellent

The hotel is impeccably clean and the service is outstanding. It is about 15 mins of easy walk to the train station so we did a lot of walking. The room is small but adequate for 2 persons. Most of the staff only have limited English but we communicated by Google translate and it worked. The Western breakfast has the same menu every day but very fresh food. Wifi does not work in the room on the 5th floor, but works well in the lobby.
I strongly recommended this hotel and will be back in the future

Great location near Metro/Subway system. Close to bars and nightlife/ small eateries. Rooms small and tight. Cleaned well each day. TV and room facilities incredibly limited. Not a room if you need to relax in. But a good place if you're just going to use it for sleeping. Staff speak enough English to be passable.

Nice budget hotel in a good location.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was clean. It's in an area with lots of good restaurants and bars (although your enjoyment may vary according to your level of Japanese.) Currently there is some construction going on directly across from the hotel which may affect you if you like staying out late drinking and trying to sleep it off the morning after.

No frills budget hotel

If you're looking for a budget hotel, Tateshina is a decent place to stay. Rooms are clean & beds are comfortable. Kabukicho, Shinjuku station all within 15-20 mins walk. many eateries around. We took a taxi fm Shinjuku to the hotel on arrival because it's complicated to walk. After checked in it is easy to walk to Kabukicho etc.

We were a group of 6, staying in 3 rooms after a long band performance at a club about 10 minutes away. For our purposes this place was fine. No problems with checking in late, there was parking for our van and the price was reasonable. Hotel Tateshina is an old-school, standard Japanese business hotel. Some folks might find the bathroom a bit cramped and non-smokers may take offence at the air, as people have and do smoke here.

Great budget hotel

For the price and the area, great amount of space. The front desk was super helpful. Also held our bags after we checked out for a few hours before our flight which was nice.
