This one is a hidden Gem

Location:
- If you love Japan's culture or Asian Religion this hotel is for you. It's situated right next to To-ji Temple, and you could literally go up to their garden roof to get a view of To-ji Temple across the street. And the nearest subway station is 5-10min walk. It's very convenient.

Staff:
- They are professional, friendly, and kind. Most of them speak English, so there will be no communication issue.

Room:
- I got a room with a kitchen and washer/dryer. Very family-friendly. They organized it pretty well. Make sure you ask for a room away from the street. The street in front of the hotel could be really busy at times. Overall, it's what you expected for a hotel room. clean, organized, essentials are ready to go. One surprise was that they even have kitchenware for you. again good for a family with kids.

I'd say this hotel is really amazing. The theme is a Zen garden, very culturally oriented. I would definitely recommend it for families who are traveling with kids or couples.

We loved our stay at the Sunrise Suites! It felt like a real oasis in the city. Granted this is in a quieter part of Kyoto but it still felt very tranquil, set back from the road and with lots of nature incorporated into the design. The hotel is very convenient to a bus line that goes into the main parts of the city as well as just a quick walk from a train station. All of the staff were very helpful. The daily breakfast was absolutely delicious! Very comfortable room. Also a beautiful view of Toji Tower from the balcony! Highly recommended.

Very comfortable with a washer/dryer in the bathroom. Beautifully decorated room. Across the road from a picturesque pagoda. Fairly close to Kyoto station but a long way from the main tourist areas: it took us 40 minutes to get to the meeting place for our walking tour of Gion. The sliding panels let through lots of light so you may need an eye mask. Excellent staff who were kind and helpful when I was unwell.

Perfect Spot for a week in Kyoto

Sunrise Suites is comfortable. The staff is friendly. It's a beautiful property complete with a zen sand garden in the courtyard area. Plus, it's only one train stop from Kyoto station. The location, comfort and aesthetic was exactly what I was looking for. I would stay again!

Lovely Japanese style hotel with friendly and attentive staff.
We enjoyed the complimentary Japanese breakfasts daily that were delivered to our room at a time we chose.
Rooms were immaculate and cleaning done daily with fresh towels.
Enjoyed looking at the koi fish and beautiful views of the pagoda from the rooftop garden.
Very convenient to train station and restaurants.
Highly recommend!

Wow! What an absolutely delightful place to stay. The accommodation provides a more authentic Japanese experience compared to more corporate style hotels. The staff are incredibly helpful and the location is great, 5 minute walk to the nearest underground station and 15 minutes to Kyoto Station. The view of the world heritage site Toji Temple from the rooftop is stunning. We had an amazing stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for good value accommodation in Kyoto.

The accommodating size for a tall person was a great plus! Everything was very clean. Towel service was great and having the washing drier in room for laundry usage was very helpful (you need to bring your own detergent, though). Plenty of electric outlets throughout the room.

This was a really nice little boutique hotel, and the washer/dryer, was a very nice added touch, even if it was a little rough on the clothes.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

The only thing that potential guests should know is that, in our room at least, there were no blackout drapes, which meant that it got light fairly early in the morning in late May. (The window coverings that were there did provide good privacy.)

Great place to stay in Kyoto.

This is an excellent place to stay near Kyoto. It's right across from the Toji temple and about 15 min walk from Kyoto station. Our room was decorated in a modern interpretation of Japanese style with elegant features and a lot of beautiful wood. Kitchen and bathroom had full set of amenities, including a stove top, refrigerator and a washer/dryer. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Included breakfast options were delicious.

We absolutely loved staying at Sunrise Suites! It is a lovely and small hotel right off of a main street, which makes it very walkable to many types of transportation. The staff was fantastic--extremely friendly, so very helpful, and made the stay that much better! The only reason we gave this place a 4/5 in overall ratings was for 2 reasons: 1. The breakfast every morning came to us cold. It was always on time and overall a good variety--it just would have been better warm! 2. The room had an odd scent that appeared to come from the washer/dryer combo. Granted, just having a washer/dryer combo in-room was enough to overlook it. But if that were fixed, it would make this place even better than it already is!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Sunrise Suites. The interior design of the room was lovely and it was super clean. We would normally never take a bath at any hotel but we felt comfortable to use the deep soak tub here. The hotel is situated in a busy intersection and the walls are thin so it can be somewhat noisy (we used ear plugs for sleeping). It is within walking distance to the train station and convenience store. Breakfast is hearty and nutritious (but they serve the same dishes so it got a bit repetitive for me).

LOVED our stay here! The staff was incredibly friendly and kind. Free traditional Japanese breakfast was delivered to our room each morning and the hotel has free bikes for guests to use. Our room also had a mini kitchen area with cooking supplies (pots, pans, kettle, etc.) all provided for us to use. The hotel is in a quieter area of Kyoto and is within walking distance of the main train station, as well as a few sightseeing spots, plenty of convenience stores, restaurants, and shops. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again!

Though it was a hotel, it felt like a home stay. Breakfast is a typical Japanese breakfast, we loved it. And my wife was happy as they catered for Vegetarians as well. Our room had a view of the temple across. The staff were really friendly. It is right in one of the main roads, which could be a problem if you are a really light sleeper. We didn't have any issues.

Wow!! what a hotel. Myself and wife loved this place. We stayed at some good hotels on our honeymoon in Japan but Sunrise Suites was the best by some distance.

The hotel staff were very friendly, in particular, Mr Fuji. He went out of his way to book two tickets to a Geisha performance (as the website was in Japanese) and he even ran after me once to ensure we had the correct directions to go on our day trip.

The location is good, and easy to get to the major sights in Kyoto via train or bus.

The room was cleaned to a very high standard every day.

The breakfast was the same every day but still reasonably tasty.

Although it is expensive, in my view it is worth every penny.

Great value-for-money

The hotel exceeded our expectations in terms of its elegant design and the size of the room. We appreciate in particular the very efficient washer/ dryer in the bathroom and the beautiful view of Toji temple from the rooftop garden. All reception staff spoke good English and were super helpful. We are especially grateful to Mr Toyama who not only arranged our airport transfer from hotel but also passed us some sheets of interesting information on Japanese classics and “ hidden gems” of Kyoto every time we saw him.
A tip for stayers: please ask for rooms on a higher floor zone. We stayed on a ground floor room and could hear the pitter patter of rain on the open rock garden courtyard adjacent to the room.
Otherwise we could not find any fault with this very nice hotel, especially when one considers its very reasonable rates even during the high season of April.

We had a very clean, modern large room with wonderful staff who had very good English. There are two supermarkets a few minutes walk away as well as several convenience stores making it easy to cook our evening meal. The main Kyoto station is very walkable from the hotel, but Toji station is even closer.
We really enjoyed our stay which included a Japanese breakfast which we grew to enjoy more each day.
We definitely recommend Sunrise Suites and would return with no hesitation. It is very attractive, convenient to the train, has supermarkets nearby, and though we didn’t use them, several restaurants in the vicinity.

Cute hotel, but a few drawbacks

Cute hotel, friendly and helpful staff, big rooms, cheap compared to other similar looking hotels in Kyoto. However, there were a few things I wish I knew before booking. Be prepared to commute or pay for taxis - the location is more of a base and is not walking distance to any sites we visited, so we ended up getting a lot of taxis for ease. There is a useful bus stop and Kyoto station is only one stop away on the tube, but you need to build in the time. There aren’t really any nice restaurants or bars nearby. The room is big and spacious but the hotel is close to a main road and the rooms are not well insulated so you can hear the road noise from the room (we stayed on third floor away from road and could still hear it). The room is also very light as there are no blinds or curtains so if you want to sleep in past 7am it is very difficult to do so (even harder in summer presumably!). They also can’t switch off the lights in the hotel in the evening so getting to sleep was a bit difficult due to the room being very light. The breakfast is fine for feul and we had it because it was included in the price but it wasn’t particularly tasty. There is a kitchen area in each room so you can easily buy breakfast food from the supermarket downstairs and skip the free offering. Our stay was fine and the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful but with hindsight I think I would pay a bit more money for somewhere quieter, and a more comfortable room environment which is more central.

Just a few nights in a super comfortable apartment style room, the staff speak English, are super kind and bring the breakfast to the bedroom. Facilities include with a good quality machine, wonderful shower room and aircon that keeps the place cool. Bamboo style features make this feel like an oasis of peace, perfect getaway from busy Tokyo.

Sunrise Suites in Kyoto was marvelous! The hotel ambiance was very Japanese, with gardens and pools everywhere and different motifs on each floor. The rooms were spacious by Japan standards, with understated beauty. Really liked having a washer/dryer in the bathroom. Breakfasts were typically Japanese and presented beautifully. But what we liked the most about this hotel was the front desk staff. They were so kind and accommodating, really wonderful!

I am so impressive with their service. I think this hotel deserves the five-star service quality. From the first day I arrived, the staff was very helpful in recommending and introducing the room. While I was staying, I could get the information needed about Kyoto and the places to eat. They know the Kyoto and neighbourhood well. Until the end, right before leaving the hotel, the staff are service minded until my taxi left the hotel property. I think that can be called real hospitality of Kyoto. Thank you so much. If I have a chance to go back to Kyoto, Sunrise Suites would pop up on my mind for sure.

A beautifully presented hotel with super easy access to busses for daily outings (we used good 'ol 207 for the most part)
We arrived around 11pm and Toyama gave us the warmest welcome we've ever encountered - super appreciated after a long day of travelling!
The room layout is spacious and clean

The staff, location, roof top and were awesome. The beds were extremely hard and made it a challenge to sleep at night. The walls are paper thin so you can hear everything. The staff leave the lights on at night and the lights come into your room. Would be nice if they turn the lights off on the outside.

Fantastic experience. A 15 minutes easy walk to kyoto Station, and 8 minutes walk to the nearest Toji train station. This is a very fresh and clean hotel with a modernised Japanese style rooms. The rooms are very big compared to other hotels in Japan, much like a serviced apartment which provides breakfast and wifi. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful. The hotel staff helped us booked one of our ryokan onsen destinations as we spoke very little Japanese, and they even found out all the necessary information to get us to the destination.
We would come back here. We highly recommend this hotel to all.

Great hotel with great rooms and service

The hotel is new and compared to most hotels in Japan, you get a lot more space at Sunrise at the same price, complete with small kitchen and washer and dryer in the room. It is located directly opposite the Toji Temple and a 5 min walk to the nearest Toji station (1 stop from Kyoto station). If walking is your thing, Kyoto station is also just a 15 minutes walk away. As it is far away from main areas of attractions like Sanjio or Gion, some may find the neighbourhood boring. However, it kinda allow you to soak in the quietness Kyoto can offer and with the Toji temple view, it more than make up for it. Besides, restaurants and convenience stores are also readily available and one bus ride will take you to Sanjio in less than 30 minutes. What is most awesome about this hotel is the staff who went out of their way to ensure your stay is perfect, I can even remember their names Mr Toyama and Ms Hatakeyama as they were really helpful and hospitable. One thing I would give a it a miss will be the breakfast which is often served cold.

Nice hotel for a few days in Kyoto

We liked this small beautiful hotel close to a beatiful temple. Staff was very helpful. Rooms have very pleasing character. However, for us, normal room with some windows facing inside wide corridors and small garden had too much light during the night (there is no way to block it) and the door let's the noice in, so the first night was difficult. We were very lucky that room 405 was available, so we could upgrade. The extra cost was worth it and the next three days and nights were perfect. The hotel is not very close to any subway station, so we had to add a bit of extra time for bus travel. We regret not taking taxi on a few occasions. Evening visit to the temple 100m away was a wonderful experience we will not forget. Also, the station for Nara (a must day trip) is a very short walk away.

Best accommodation out of all of our Japan travels. Room was very clean and huge! We had a view of the To-ji Temple from our room. The staff spoke english and helped with food choices and suggested tourist sights apart from temples and shrines. Close to the station with supermarket, convenience store and restaurants nearby. The bus stop was across the road also. The washer/dryer was fantastic as Kyoto was our halfway mark. Would definitely stay again if we ever come back to Japan.

upon arriving you first walk into the lobby the design is stunning. staff were friendly and helpful with any requests. upon checking-in a staff member will escort us to the room we would be staying in. upon entering the room the staff member will walk us thru are room and what we have available to us during our stay. the washing machine in the room is all Japanese writing. the staff member walked us thru how to use it correctly as we were English speaking guests. the staff speak very good and fluent English. they are helpful in every way and i highly recommend this hotel for the friendliness of the staff and the stunning design of the hotel. if you are use to western style food i do not recommend the breakfest that is included in the price.

A highlight of our trip!

Sunrise Suites was an amazing find. It is tranquil and beautiful, with immaculate rooms, in-room kitchen and laundry (so useful when travelling!), and the most beautiful and delicious breakfast we've ever had in a hotel, and one of the best meals of our time in Japan! The hosts were gracious and helpful, and the location is wonderful - a ten minute walk from Kyoto Station, and right across the road from Toji Temple, so you not only get the beautiful view, but you can also benefit from the proximity if you like to meditate! Sunrise Suites were really a highlight of our trip - it's a gem.

GREAT hotel

If you want an \"out of the city\" Kyoto experience while still being in a convenient location, this is the hotel for you! Literally across the street from Toji Temple Pagoda, less than 1 mile from Kyoto Station. This brand new hotel offers a quaint authentic Japanese feel and has the most hospitable and accommodating staff you could hope for. A spacious \"spa like\" room with breakfast brought to you every morning. The subways, bus stations and trains are a quick walk away. I LOVEDmy stay here and highly recommend it! Zimmer war sauber und groß! Der Blick von der Dachterasse auf die Stadt und den Tempel sind besonders nachts fantastisch. Personal war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Ausstattung war ausreichend. Der TV ist leider nicht so gut. Es kann im Winter etwas kälter in manchen Bereichen der Zimmer sein, weil die Zimmertür quasi draußen liegt und dementsprechend nicht vor Wind geschützt ist. Das ist aber meckern auf hohen Level. War vollkommen zufrieden mit dem Hotel

・朝食の湯豆腐弁当がアツアツで、良い朝食を頂けた
・お風呂に洗い場があるタイプ、とても広く2人でゆったりと入れた
・今回使用しなかったが、部屋にキッチン、洗濯機がある、準備をすれば使うのおすすめ
・屋上から見える東寺は素晴らしいの一言、夜のライトアップがおすすめ
・フロントのスタッフさんは日本人ではなかったが日本語が非常にうまく、対応も素晴らしかった
・ホテル外にすぐコンビニあり、バス停もあり

悪かった点
・部屋と廊下の壁と窓が薄く、外の声が気になる

そもそも設備が充実しているから高評価ですが、洗濯機よりも電子レンジがあった方が良いかもしれません。せっかくの朝食のお弁当が冷たいままでは、美味しさ激減です

Wonderful experience

Wonderful hotel, giving a relaxing feel inside the city. Very nice traditional Japanese breakfast box. Although a bit away from the main sights, it is conveniently located on some bus lines, so in the end easy to reach all the places we wanted to visit. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We very much enjoyed our stay and would go back when in Kyoto

観光の拠点に最適で綺麗で静かな快適ホテルでした

祇園祭を観覧するために宿泊させて頂きました。
京都観光で4年前にも滞在したのですが、京都駅にも歩いて行け、バス停(九条大宮)の近くのなのでとても観光に便利でした。
東寺が目の前にある静かなロケーションでした。
目の前にコンビニ(ミニストップ)もありコーヒーやお菓子等も簡単に調達出来ました。
朝食のお弁当も４種類から選べ、夫婦で別々のお弁当を頂きました。丹羽牛弁当と京の五目弁当(鶏と魚)も美味しかったです。
受け付けの方も親切で丁寧で快適に過ごすこと出来ました。
お部屋も綺麗でしたし、洗濯機やキッチリもあったので次回は長期滞在で是非お世話になりたいですです。

UOMI

東寺のライトアップ期間ということもあり、夜も素敵な景観でした。コンビニも近くに多く便利でした。スタッフの観光アドバイスも大変助かりました、ありがとうございました。

駐車場を期待する場合は要注意です

東寺さんの目の前で、京都駅にもアクセスしやすい。京都水族館にも歩いていける立地は良かったです。
しかし、敷地内の駐車場は２台分しかなく、先着順だったため、敷地内には駐車出来ませんでした。ホテル予約サイトの情報には、駐車出来ない可能性がある事が書かれていなかったので、最初に期待とのズレを感じてしたことは残念でしたが、それ以外はとても気持ちよく過ごさせて頂きました。

ここは最高です。

大変快適な1日を過ごすことが出来ました。室内も綺麗で何より窓の外に広がる東寺の景観が素晴らしい。さらに、屋上から眺める景色も最高でした。次も機会があれば宿泊したいと考えています。一つだけ難点を言えばトイレに鍵がついていないことです。ここだけは是非改善して頂きたいと思います。
