Awesome location, 6 minute walk from the main shopping district. We made a last minute decision to stay in Kyoto for the night. They had all the amenities that we needed to make the stay comfortable for our whole family (2 adults, 2 kids 9 yo and 12 yo).

Such a unique experience to be able to stay \"in\" an artwork! We were in the Mon Koutaro Ooyama room (#601) and it was terrific! The colours, artwork and integrated lighting programme all combined perfectly to create a really immersive experience as part of the art. We enjoyed staring at the intricacies of the paintwork and exploring the detail throughout our stay. In addition to this - the beds were super comfortable, bathroom well equipped, staff very hospitable, breakfast tasty, and the location is excellent - easy to access via a short bus ride from Kyoto station and simple to then get to the main attractions (Arashiyama, Fushimi Inari Shrine, Kinkakuji temple etc). Staff have great recommendations for local places to eat and explore too. Would highly recommend staying here!

This was one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. Each room is unique and is put together with so much thought. The hotel itself is spotless and offers plenty of amenities. There's even a cafe on the top floor with great quality coffee. The staff was helpful with every request we had, and helped facilitate our luggage forwarding. The location can't be beat. I would recommend to anyone staying in Kyoto!

The room was spotless. the location was outstanding--I'd had some concerns not staying at a \"Kyoto Station\" hotel, but not only was transit very convenient here, you're steps away from the Pontocho Alley and about a 10\" walk to the Gion district. I will say the wi-fi was not the most reliable and you are not able to get fresh air in the room at night (staff say there are safety concerns with opening the windows at night). The cafe and breakfast were also excellent with super friendly staff and breakfast at the right portions.

I am very happy about the stay. I can see the owner tries the best for this hotel. All staffs are friendly and lovely. The room i stayed is big and beautiful. I will want to stay here again if i visit Kyoto. Just a couples of suggestion: 1. Remove mouldy smell in the bathroom. 2. The windows in the bathroom makes customer feel insecure. 3. The room is too dry. 4. I dont like windows blinds in the room as it cannot block all sunlight and forces me to wake up in the morning. Thanks again for the excellent experience!

Great location and easy walk to shops and Nishiki market. The room definitely was style above function as to we had to remove a couple of the art pieces to be able to access areas of the room ( these were of course replaced on vacating). Staff were definitely less friendly than other hotels we had stayed in but they were helpful when needed. The bathroom and showers facilities were excellent. Would I stay here again- I’m afraid not.

It was the worst experience when I stayed in Japan. The room is very small, and there is no furniture, no phone. The service was terrible and significantly reduced in the name of environment protection. This hotel is marked as 4 stars in Expedia, but it is only two stars actually. I don't recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel has such a hip vibe and is in convenient location near Nishiki market. The hotel staff were very kind. The room was interesting but not that practical as the limited floor space was wasted and the beds in the double room 602 are actually on the floor. The bathroom was amazing, but we did have a toilet issue which they kindly issued a new room and breakfast voucher until it was solved.

Overall, the stay was good. The room could use a fresh coat of paint, and the toilet wasn’t completely clean, there were some spots on the wall. Aside from that, the location is fantastic, the staff are excellent, and the complimentary daily cocktail is a great touch.

This is an art hotel. Each individual room has been used as a canvas to creat art. The first room had a round bed. The second had two beds placed at 90 degree with a huge piece of art on the ceiling.

It was not clear from the photos on the website that most of the beds are low. Sometimes the art in the rooms causes discomfort for guests and some of the room furnishings are in compartments in the hallway, so the rooms are not very comfortable to use.

Undoubtedly cool, the gorgeousness of my room did not translate into comfort. The bed and pillows were comfy enough but the “desk” was hard to use and I ended up needing a folding chair and table (that they offer) to make the room more usable.

I stayed for 5 nights and my room was only cleaned once. I was told this would happen when I checked in and I could’ve asked for the room to be cleaned at other times.

The breakfast was great, they have a system where you have to remember to pre-order and book a time slot for the following morning the day before. Reduces food waste!

We stayed there 6 nights and loved there. The room 303 was spacious - especially in Japan. Original decoration - truly living in art, great modern bathroom, and very accommodating and plesant staff.
Close to everything with bus stop&7eleven just outside. Laundry less than 5 min walk.
Great coffee area and coffee itself - breakfast options are quite limited, but again, the staff was very accommodating in terms of food requirements.
We stayed in 3 hotels in Japan so far, and this was our favourite.
They also have bar and little art gallery on the ground floor.

The bed was horribly uncomfortable. It was like sleeping on a futon.
There was no chair in the room. Sitting on the bed edge was uncomfortable because the platform was hard with sharp corners.
There were no washcloths. Only hand towels and bath towels.
The platform for taking shoes off was too small.
Just very poorly designed. It was more about showing off the artist’s painting vs making guests comfortable.

Very cool hotel with individual rooms and kind and friendly staff. We didn't really use the cafe or bar, so I can't rate those, but the location was perfect. One small suggestions for improvement: we had the Mina Katsuki room, which is a very modern but also mostly empty room (with a very comfy bed and a dreamy view of the Kyoto skyline and river). And I get that the bright \"cool\" white lights in this room are part of the art installation and there is also the option to switch some lights off. But for the evening, some warmer reading lights would have been beneficial and also more cozy.

Such a cool experience living in art and staying at BnA Alter Museum. We stayed in two different rooms to double our experience. Great location, clean and good breakfast, with very friendly hotel staff. Rooms are spacious, but definitely about form over function. While I celebrate that this is about art, this is still a hotel room. There needs to be a hook for bath towels and a place to set bathroom items, and at a minimum, a chair or bench to sit on in the room.

Staff was really friendly and polite. The room was an art piece. The only improvements are:
- guests should not ask for the room to be cleaned as it is a high end hotel so it should come as a default service.
- toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash and shampoo are not available inside the room but at front desk. I don’t understand why?!?!
- we were 3 people (2 adults and 1 kid) but they always left only 2 towel for shower. A bit annoying.
Coffee at the cafe was good!
For the price, it could be better but I can’t complain either.

Unique place to stay. Excellent staff and the rooms were very clean. Our room was spacious enough for a family of four with luggage. We had a large tapestry hanging from the ceiling in our room as our art piece. Very cool and the family enjoyed it too. The bathroom was very clean and spacious too! Pure style over substance. Staff on check-in made us feel as if they were doing *us* a favour for staying there. Our room was interestingly designed but not comfortable. The sharp concrete edge of the headboard worried me about potential accidents. The room’s light switches were all over the place. A warning from the staff made us scared to touch anything in the room. The bathroom was good though. Location great.

The king is naked - stay away

The hotel is very expensive and supposed to concept based. The reality is that we got uncomfortable room, impossible bed, tge \"concept\" means that you have no normal sofa or chairs invthe room, no placevfor luggage. Even the \"concept\" breakfast meabs you have to set the exact hour you want your breakfast and exactly whatyou will wantvto eat tomorrow. You get only one drink and a sort of sandwich.
It is not what expected from a very expensive hotel. We felt someone is laughing at us, which is jot pleasant at all. The king is naked and I recommend you to stay away from that \"concept\" hotel.

Our stay at BnA was everything we were looking for and more! Aside from the unique art rooms and concepts, BnA is simply great as a hotel. Location was exactly where we wanted to be. Walking distance from Nishiki Market, shopping, across the river from Gion. We traveled with our toddler, so we did not make it to as many temples as we have in our previous trip, but location would have been perfect for it.

Speaking of toddlers, because the rooms are art based, they may not be the most child friendly, but they have a crib, which is more than what we were and to find while searching for a place to stay, and it was still great for our family.

The staff is exceptional and available to help us with many of our questions during our stay and assisting with our transportation inquiries. Would be happy to stay here again on our next trip and experience a new room!

I pay a lot of money to get a stupid concept room. Not comfortable, no chairs to sit, no place to hang things or closet. Stupid old TV, office table that was way too large. No real lobby or a normal breakfast with choices that fit the price, only sandwich and one cup of coffee or soft drink. You must define the exact hour you will wake up for breakfast and what you are going to eat a day before

Beautiful and unique art room

I didn’t realize we got the art room called 1993 which is a theme of sex hotel in Japan. Since we already had interested in checking out a sex hotel, I was over the moon happy about it. We were greeted by friendly English speaking staffs upon arrival and were given a lot of helpful info throughout the stay. They even helped us to get a reservation for a local breakfast restaurant. You’d also get to check out the art exhibit for free from 11am - 8pm as a guest. The room is very spacious comparing with normal hotels in Japan and the bathroom was very modern. It not only has a fancy bidet, but a full bathtub which we used every night to unwind from all the walking. Nonetheless to say, our stay was very unique and pleasant.

Everything was great here. One thing I would point out that I'm not sure that either Expedia or the BnA website do a fantastic job of explaining (maybe just not in English) but while the hotel is an art hotel and the rooms are each art pieces, the rooms are also absurdly well appointed hotel rooms too.

Like, it had everything I'd expect from a 4 star hotel, and it was an art piece you could explore.

I didn't book multiple nights here (even though I had originally planned to do so) because I thought it may be lacking in some of the basic comforts I'd expect from a hotel on a long trip to a country I've never been before, but it had all of that and then some.

TV? Check, even an active Netflix subscription.

WiFi? Phenomenal speeds and stability.

One of the best showers/non Jacuzzi style tubs I've ever use? You better believe it.

And then on top of all of those things the view from the room I stayed in (EYE) was possibly one of the best I've ever had in a hotel. As I checked in the sun was setting over Kyoto, casting beautiful orange glows across the Gion neighborhood. A perfect view of the river out of the window next to the sofa. The hallway had floor to ceiling windows overlooking Kyoto including a view of the top of Kyoto tower.

I won't spoil the art portion, I think that's worth experiencing for yourself, but even without the full blown gallery and art installation in the room itself this hotel was absolutely worth it.

My partner and I absolutely loved staying at BnA. We stayed in one of the artists rooms inspired by dreams and oddly enough we had some crazy ones ourselves! Not only were the staff attentive to our needs, but also provided great detailed insights to the actual artists works! The rooms were spacious, cleanly, and the bathroom was wayyyy bigger than any of our other stays which we were pleasantly surprised by. Art is Life!

Great modern hotel with an interesting aesthetic! Each room is itself a work of art. Very funky and modern. The staff all spoke excellent English and were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

Arrive late evening. First got assigned a black room. Literally the wall is painted black and everything was dark except for a single light in the middle of the room. can't see anything and tripped.
Request for a room changed, assigned the same theme room but wall is white painted now. great, i can see and did not trip.

Good location walking distance to shopping area and subways, I enjoy the stay, and if you are runners you can access running by Kamo River which is very close by.

Very unique hotel with amazing art. It's a little smaller than imagined but love the different concepts per room. The staff was extremely helpful and assisted us with the bus situation
