This hotel is only a few step away from the Main Street and malls. It is very convenient and also quiet enough to rest. Mind you the hotel is beside a temple and its graveyard, if you don’t mind that. The design of the hotel is modern and cool. It also has a nice public bath. Breakfast was great with nice main course and half buffet. I am satisfied to stay here.

The lobby was so clean and smelled so good with an amazing incense smell. The hotel was in a great location and easily walkable to places we wanted to go. The public bath was also so nice and clean. We enjoyed our stay so much and would stay here again!

Hotel is located at a small alley leading out to the main busy street of kawamarachi and near to Nishiki market. A short bus ride to Gion
Rooms are clean but rather warm. Can’t seem be adjust the air conditioning prob due to winter auto heat.
Breakfast semi buffet spread is good.

The hotel is next to a shrine/cemetry.

We used a service to forward our luggage to Osaka which reception recommended and it was perfect. Luggage arrived earlier than expected in Osaka.

The breakfast is ¥3300/person and is quite good. The biggest plus of this hotel is its location. It's literally within walking distance to everything. The interior design is exquisite. The room is a bit on the small side but adequate. The Japanese bath is open all night until 10 am. The one small minus is that the cleaning staff often forgot to refill the coffee packets. I had to call the front desk 3 days for delivery after finding no coffee in the room. BTW, the hotel information sheet in the room doesn't explain how to call the front. I had to inquire in person to find out that it's pressing #.

The hotel is in a very convenient location with great access to buses and subway. For those who like to walk, it’s about a 20 min walk to Gion. Right by some big department stores and popular dining/shopping area. Yet the hotel is on a quiet street so it was perfect.

I only booked room and not breakfast so cannot comment on the food.

The rooms were spacious and clean. I especially liked the separation of the sink, toilet and shower area— makes it easier to share the room.

Provided amenities were great.

We stayed in Japan for two weeks, and this was by far the best hotel of our trip. The staff went above and beyond. They exceeded every expectation we had. From the warm welcome at check-in to the thoughtful tips about luggage transfers, every interaction felt genuine and caring.

I wish we had caught the name of the staff member who checked us in. She was incredibly friendly, patient, and made us feel right at home. Another thoughtful touch was the complimentary bottled water available at the front desk upon request. This is something no other hotel we stayed at offered. On top of that, the front desk staff consistently greeted us with warm smiles every time we returned to the property. It truly reflected the best customer service we experienced in Japan.

The onsen was another highlight of this property. It is tattoo-friendly, spotless, and serene. It was the perfect way to unwind after a long day of exploring. You can even check how busy it is right from your hotel TV.

To top it all off, the hotel’s location couldn’t be better. It is just minutes from Kawaramachi Square where you're surrounded by endless shopping and dining options. We would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto.

Great location, great services, the rooms were slightly larger than the ones in Osaka and Tokyo. There were a bunch of shops and restaurants right around the block. If you don’t need quick access to the Kyoto station, I highly recommend staying here. Kyoto station was about 32 min walk or a 20m train ride.

The most amazing staff from check in to after we left! The hotel beautifully tucked into the city and from inside the quiet peaceful atmosphere you would never know there is a bustling city outside. The rooms were nice and hotel had an onsen (public bath) which was so nice to enjoy after a long day.
The hotel is in a convenient location walkable to the busy areas of Kyoto where you can get food, go shopping and walkable to the Higashiyama district is about a mile away. We were able to have them store our luggage at check out so we would have more time to explore. They also called a taxi for us when needed to take us back to train station which is about 15 min away.
Most importantly when we left someone on our party forgot their cell phone in the taxi cab. We did not have the taxi cab information and called the hotel to help us contact the taxi company. They assisted us and called the taxi cab letting them know. The hotel staff helped us and the taxi cab driver came back to Same spot of drop off and brought us cell phone.
We will definitely stay at this hotel and its other properties again! Thank you to the most amazing staff!!

This hotel is in a great location with very friendly and helpful staff. The highlight for me is their public onsen - so cool! Sparkling clean and fully equpped showers and changing room.
The hotel also has special access to the Jokyoji temple next door. Unfortunately, it was closed the day I ried to visit - next time. Arigato!

Loved this hotel. Not only conveniently located to shopping and restaurants but very well appointed from the moment you step in. A peaceful, calm and incense infused oasis from the heat and crowds.

The room as well exceeded our expectations, and with a public bath and access to laundry we found our stay quite relaxing.

They were even able to assist with shipping our large suitcase ahead to our next hotel. George was especially helpful as our Japanese language skills were not ideal and he provided lots of local suggestions. We will be staying again and this is a highly recommended hotel in right in the heart of Kyoto’s shopping hub.

We chose Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Kawaramachi based on recommendations and a previous great experience at their Tokyo location. Perfect spot in beautiful Kawaramachi district with clean, comfortable rooms and an amazing public bath. Friendly, helpful staff and walking distance to excellent shopping, restaurants, and bars. Great public transport connections too. Loved our stay and can’t wait to return!

If you are walking, look for the underground passage-way from the subway to the hotel for easier rolling of luggage. The hotel itself is very beautiful, decorated in moody, dark tones. The shared bath was very nice. You can easily walk to shopping or Gion area.

Had an excellent time at this hotel! Spent 4 nights here and it was very close to all sorts of shopping and food options. Transportation was easily accessible and was very close to the Gion district as well.
The staff was lovely and very accommodating, our room’s shower was absolutely incredible, and the onsen was fantastic.
Our room wasn’t as clean as we would have liked (lots of dust caked around doorframes and on floor around bed), and the mattress was VERY stiff which others may or may not like depending on preference.
Overall though, very happy we stayed here!
