The staff was helpful and let us store our bags when we had arrived early.

However the room itself was in pretty rough shape, holes in the ceiling covered with scotch tape, zero ventilation (except for a small Dyson fan) which being on the top floor in the middle of summer made it impossible to get any sleep because of the warm temperatures even with sleeping with the window wide open. Hotel is not in the best location and heard a commotion outside with glass breaking and a woman screaming at 3am.

The Erotic store next door gives it a bonus point though.

The location was great! Near the train station, bus station, old town, and restaurants. We walked everywhere. The room was spacious for European standards. Breakfast included and was a decent mix of American and European fare. The Nespresso machine in our room didn't work, but the coffee machine in the lounge area did.
Check in was a firm 2 pm, but luggage storage on site was good. Elevator was usually pretty quick although we walked down in the morning.
Our room was in the front (street side) so a little noisy..a few cafes and restaurants on the block. But nothing too disturbing. The king bed was two singles pushed together so a bit of a dip in the middle.
No big frills, but a solid, comfortable, convenient place for the money.

Good hairdryer in room, contrary to other reviews. Coffee maker in room also. Safe in room did not work. Beds were comfortable. Pillows were awful. So thin even folded in half . Quiet .

Location is walkable from Zurich HB ... Clean Room ... Nice Courtyard... We have a hearty good buffet breakfast and surprisingly, there was a rice cuisine which we did appreciate.

We stayed with still cool weather so we leave the windows partly open allowing the cool air to come in so no concern with us as we noticed that there was no aircon in the room. The pillow though soft & plush was not thick enough to provide a well sleep support.

But overall, we had a great comfortable stay at Hotel Montana.

Short walk from the train station. Excellant breakfast. The hotel itself is a bit tired but given the cost in Zurich it is probably priced reasonably. The staff is very nice. This is a non air conditioned hotel, they will provide a fan if one is available, otherwise room is warm and if you keep your window open you will hear lots of noise from people and vehicles.

Hotel is great location for the central train station, it is looking tired, quite a few of the tiles in the bathroom at the bottom were cracked and broken. Room was very hot during the night and only option to cool it down for the night was opening the window which was loud as the street was busy. Only stayed one night so was ok would have really struggled in the heat if we stayed more than one night. Breakfast was free when we booked, I wouldn’t add it as an extra, in my opinion it wasn’t worth it if I’d had to pay.

This was my second time I stood in hotel Montana. I liked the area was closed to train station and the bus tour . Waking distance to train station and the bus tour . Front desk people were very helpful specially the guy name was Zahid ? And a young girl name was Paula . These two were the most helpful people in the hotel at my experience . They were absolutely very nice personality, kind and excellent customers . Breakfast was great very clean. Every day that we ate breakfast ,one older man was cleaning the tables all the time and he worked hard , he kept the place very nice and cleaned for others costumer to sit down and worked fast . I will go again to this hotel .

Great location. Close to the SBB train station and zurich bus station by about 2-5 min walk each. Staff was helpful, place was easy to find and access. Location felt safe. Room was clean. I put a do not disturb sign and was kinda surprised staff entered to change garbage bags despite, idk if that’s just what they do. Also included breakfast which was yummy! The guy working during breakfast was amazing!

Location of the hotel is ideal , being nearer to the Zurich HB train station and other popular tourist spots like Grossmunster, Swiss National museum. Convenience stores like coop and migros are nearby.
The hotel also provides free luggage storage and almost 24 hr check in services.
Coming to the cons, basic amenities like dental and shaving kits are not provided. The cleaning waitresses always look grumpy and arrogant. The breakfast was average. The rooms would be ideal only for 2 people or a couple with an infant or toddler...

Room was clean but small. Bed was ok but pillows were paper thin and incredibly uncomfortable. Room was hot, no a/c, but a fan was provided. Free breakfast was nice since everything in Switzerland is incredibly overpriced. I asked the front desk the night before my flight how much a cab/car service would be to the airport and he said 65 SHF and he could order it for me. Thought that was very nice but it ended up being 85 CHF and the car was gross and smelled terrible. I understand they don't control the taxi service but 20CHF is a bit of a difference from what I was told. Overall property was nice and close to the train station but I'm not sure I would stay there again. Although, I also likely won't return to Switzerland again.

This is a great place to stay within walking distance from train station and old town. Breakfast buffet was included. Small storage room was provided for luggage as we arrived in early morning. The Good: Silvan saved this review. He was friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. My son had a medication that needed to be refrigerated and he ensured that it was and that all staff knew about it so I could get it at any time. When we needed to be assigned a new room, he understood. He didn’t try to convince me I was wrong or fight me- he was just happy to make us happy. We thank you so much Silvan!

The breakfast was also very good and coffee anytime you want it definitely a plus. They have the hospitality down!

The location is great! Right next to the train station and easy walk to old town.

The bad: When we first checked in we were given a family room on the old side of the hotel. It was horrific. Stains on the bed frame itself, a bathroom that the entire floor was the shower, and mold everywhere- I was afraid to touch anything. We were then given a room on the “renovated side” which although much cleaner didn’t have the extra bed we paid for! My husband and I had to share a queen size bed with our son. To top things off they give one pillow and it is too flat! We were not comfortable at all. I am still waiting on my partial refund for the fact that we paid for an extra bed for our son we never got.

***Note that renovations are going on next to the hotel and they start at 7am! Wish it was mentioned before we stayed. I know it is not something the hotel has control over so I do not hold it against them at all! I just wish we knew before hand.

This is no reflection on any of the professional polite staff but the Hotel was not was expected.

Looking back at the online pictures of the Hotel and room, we were somewhat shocked on arrival.

The bedroom was the biggest shock.
It was small, run down and generally in a very poor condition.
The bed is one that sits about a foot off of the floor, so very awkward with someone with mobility issues.
For a room that size, I have never seen such a huge TV.
It must be 47” HUGE.
We paid for a delux double so not sure what a normal double would be.

Lights in bathroom were out so we had one working out of four.
Handle broken off in bath, so nowhere to grab as the bath was slippery
Toilet seat moving around.
In general the bathroom was in a very poor state.

Fold up seat was found in the tiny wardrobe, which left little to the imagination.

The breakfast offered was good with plenty of fresh option to be had.

Location sold it to us as it is only about 300 yds from Zurich HB, which was great as we had planned trips to Tiflis.

To summarise, fantastic staff and it is a good hotel for young backpackers but so if you require a little luxury away from home.

The location is hard to beat. The hotel is about a block and a half from Zurich HB train station. The staff are very polite, all are always busy working but they remain attentive to guests. I found the breakfast buffet to be quite good. What I would change are the pillows which are not supportive, at all.

Overall we had a good stay at this hotel, the room was clean and comfortable, it was a bit smaller than some of the other rooms we had stayed in but it was in a major town so that was to be expected. The room was supposed to have a kettle however the base plate was there but not the kettle. My husband mentioned this at reception (we didn't want them to think we had taken it) and was told that was because we had a coffee machine however we didn't. When we told the guy on reception he said we will get one left in your room. When we returned there was no kettle there. It wasn't an issue as we carry one with us but it just didn't sit well.
On the plus side the breakfast here was fantastic, plenty of choice to suit every taste. The shower was good and the bed was comfortable. The location was also perfect for our needs very close to the train station and trams also central to Zurich town. I would recommend staying here, particularly if traveling by train.

I booked a room for three adults, there were three single beds in the room with hardly any room for our luggage without feeling like it was a fire hazard. The thermostat did not work and it was extremely hot in the room and very uncomfortable to sleep. The pillows were paper thin. The shower had no hot water. I asked the desk if they could send maintenance to the room while we were out walking the Christmas Markets and getting dinner and when we came back 5 hours later no one had visited the room or fixed any issues. I loved Switzerland, but when we return we will not be staying here.

I didn't book the smallest room, but I got a small, dark room with a broken light fixture that was supposed to be attached to the headboard, but it simply wasn't there, leaving only wires sticking out. We only stayed one night, but that was enough to ruin my impression of Zurich. The breakfast was so-so, nothing special. It would have been nice if there were stickers describing the contents. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

I liked the size of the room, but I didn’t like the heating—it was cold inside. The room was also quite dark because there were no lights in the bedroom except for a small lamp. The bedside lights were not working. The sink’s pipe was clogged and dirty.

Check-in should be self-service, this process is inconvenient. Also, after 9:30 a.m., cleaning staff started coming every half hour until 11:00 a.m., which was terrible! I informed them that I would check out by 11:00 a.m., but two cleaning ladies kept coming one after another for an hour and a half.

Breakfast was average, with a poor variety of food. Noise from outside was easily heard, and the TV from the next room was so loud it disturbed my sleep. I will never stay at this hotel again and do not recommend it.

This was a great option. The breakfast daily was fantastic, I loved the coffee machine. The location was excellent, walkable distance to the city. The staff was nice. The receptionist on checkin in gave us the first available room 1hr beforehand. She saw the tiredness in our eyes and helped as best she could. Kudos to her. The only issue with the room was no ac just fan. Not sure if this is normal in Zurich. But to be honest it really didnt bother us.
Will surely recommend here for the price.

Room was overly cramped due to having bunk beds in that we didn’t need; a bit dated but that was expected. No air con in room and due to being near train station too noisy to have windows open. Pillows were ridiculously soft - even with two it was equivalent to not having a pillow. Breakfast was a disaster - no tables available, when there was, there were no glasses for the juice, no plates, no bowls and no cups; only two staff on trying to service about 60 guests. Nearest ‘conveniences’ are a sex shop and weed grow shop. Good location to the station however.

There is a reason why they’re Montana 3 stars. When we first walked into our hotel room we saw hair that was not ours in the sink, the pillows were subpar and flat, and the bed was very firm and very hard to sleep on. nonetheless the hotel staff interactions were top notch. I don’t remember concierge name but she was very helpful with Information about Zurich as to where to eat or what to see. She helped us on September 14th around 2:00 and we feel as though she deserves a shoutout. Breakfast was alright, it was a nice touch to our stay and we are grateful for it.

The location is quite central and close to public transport. The room was small but clean with big soft towels provided. Some of the light switches were a bit dodgy. We needed support from Reception to get the bathroom light to work.
The breakfast was great, wide choice of hot & cold, savoury & sweet. Provided oat milk as alternative to cows milk when asked.
We booked a twin deluxe room and was given a standard room, with no explanation other than to say that this was what was available. No financial compensation given.

While the sheets and towels were clean the rest of the room could use a good clean. There was dust on the desk, the shower and sink drained very slow and the shower curtain was stained beyond its useful years. The room was very dark - with little lighting available.

Great location as it is only 5-6 minutes walk to the train station. You can access Old Town Zurich by walking through the Main Train Station.

The hotel has limited lobby hours with staff to assist getting room key. No complimentary water, ice, or basic hygiene items. No AC, just a stand alone fan provide for the room. For summer months, it will get very hot. The room is small and basic…. Elevator is often slow and busy in the morning.

Great location close to Zurich HB. Convenient to most attractions. Good breakfast included. OK stay for price.
Limited service. Fan doesn’t have safety cover. Limited furnishings. No human interaction. Good for one night passing through.

Poor for families with babies

Would not recommend staying at this Hotel as a family with a young baby, or in summertime. Checkin process was fine, however even though I specifically requested a cot in the room this was not provided. I had to wait over an hour for this to be provided, and it was an extremely old travel cot that my husband and I had to put together ourselves, and once done, we realised it was broken. We then had to go back to reception to get a suitable one (still old but not broken), which by this time had taken over 1.5hrs. Our 1year old baby missed her nap and was extremely upset as a result. This was a big hinderance as we only had 24hrs in Zurich and the schedule we had planned was now ruined. There was only 1 high chair in the breakfast area which was in use, so there was also nowhere for our baby to sit at breakfast.
The hotel and the rooms were also incredibly hot (our temperature monitor registering 33 degrees), and despite a dyson fan being in each room this barely made a difference and was extremely loud. No AC. Wouldn't recommend in the summer at all.

This hotel was made to look nice in the on-line pictures. Not so, quite run-down. Very hot in the rooms. Thank goodness there was a fan in the room. A well-worn hotel. Definitely a disappointment. Breakfast was good. Hotel is close to the train station and walkable to restaurants .

Great Chinese food restaurant is: The Yard. Highly recommend!!
