Our family enjoyed our stay at Villa Castiglione very much. The room was very clean and the air conditioning worked extremely well. We enjoy having spritz and wine on the restaurant patio overlooking wine country. In the evenings we had some excellent meals at the restaurant. We appreciated Sham's service as well as the help of the entire staff in assisting with things like taxis to Florence. The only downside was that the pool was under construction during our visit. We were not aware of the pool being out of commission. But otherwise everything was great.

Ooh this was such a pleasant surprise - The interior pics don't do it justice - the rooms were great, the location was beautiful. It's right at the mountain top close to Florence - I went to 7 cities in Italy with my family, and this was my favorite because of the wonderful stay. The dining menu was limited and that's the only thing they needs improvement but the breakfast was great.

We arrived at this hotel and we could not believe our eyes!

The building is an old convent/monastery and the rooms have all been modernised with very colourful furniture and decorated in a very unique way! The room and bathroom were quite large and they were very clean and well maintained.

There is a nearby terrace on the first floor next to the rooms where you can see Florence in the distance and also the gardens, patio and olive garden that surround the hotel.

The breakfast had some hot dishes and also cakes, cereals, hot drinks, croissants and so on.

The staff was very nice and helpful.

There is a free big parking space.

I would definitely reccomend this hotel as it’s
in a lovely quiet area, but also not far from the village and Florence.

Bed was the only downfall

The stay was amazing. The room was large and clean. The bed slept like a hammock. I asked for new mattress and got one for the second night. Still a hammock that sank to the middle but better than the first night. Breakfast was basic but certainly enough. The property is beautiful and the service was amazing and welcoming

Lovely place to escape from the city. Amazing views, good space, good restaurant. Just showers must be updated and the Italy no need for air conditioning to sleep until August that I fo not enjoy. But, definitely I will recommend this place to all my friends and will return there with more time.

Nice place, breakfast needs a few more items like veggies. Safe in room didn't work and told front desk but never fixed or offered another room or discount. Breakfast room cold, turn on heart for free hours is opened. Great in room worked great. Would stay again.

Great value for money place to stay outside Florence. Only drawback was the lack of hot water for the shower. When me mentioned they told us that they already contacted a technician, maybe we were unlucky this time….

A convent conversion to a boutique hotel about 15 min away from Florence. Somewhat uniquely decorated with a whimsical style which in my opinion doesn't really showcase this vintage property. Pool was great - COLD! Breakfast was included with a good selection. Excellent value for a unique experience close to Florence.

I don't have enough stars to rate this place!
Lovely location, lovely staff, amazing garden and surroundings, delicious food, very clean!

The hotel is located just few kilometres from Florence, about 20 min drive to piazetta Michelangelo. It is surrounded by hills covered in olive orchards and vineyards. What is amazing is that Florence can be seen from the front terrace of the hotel. What better view can you wish when you have your morning tea or coffee? We also had dinner here and although the choice is not huge, is more than enough and everything ordered was delicious. Beside this, the attitude of the personal was extremely nice. The room is not luxurious, the pillow not the best, but overall, comfortable, spacious and very clean. The only regret I have is that I have booked this place for one night only, but for sure I will come back again.

Brilliant place to stay outside Florence.

This is such a good value and pleasant place to stay. The rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable. I didn't eat supper but had a drink in the dining room. The service was excellent. Breakfast was simple but good. The views are lovely and it is so close to Florence. You can hear the motorway but it isn't annoying. The pool looked good but I didn't swim. Amazing value!

This place is ok if you're planning on staying to relax. It's about a mile walk down the hill to get to the bus to go into Florence. There is no shuttle available even though it is stated on the room description. If you're going to sight see select a hotel closer to town.

Florence vacation.

The location is great. Breakfast is tasty, and the restaurant staff is extremely attentive. The location is beautiful, with a great view. Plenty of parking. The only issue we had is that when we checked out, the receptionist tried to make us pay again. She couldn't find the records that we have already paid. It took another 15 minutes for us to check out, when we finally provided proof of payment. Suggestion: Have the records of all guest ready when they are going to check out.

Nice Design for the Price

I've stayed in many hotels in and around Florence and this is one of the best. The hotel has an awesome view of the city and I found it an easy drive to the center. The design was interesting and the rooms and bathrooms were very spacious for Italy. The price is pretty good compared to what you would get in the city center. Also, the restaurant was delicious and presentation was beautiful. I will definitely be staying here again!

Overlooking Firenze...pool if you want it. A car is a great idea and take a print of the location on a map as GPS may find it but slowly. The hotel is rented out from the church which is only open Saturday/Sunday/Monday for odd service. Internet is good and restaurant is lovely. Nearby, there are small towns especially lovely if drive South West. Allow 30 minutes for airport and can go motorway or A roads. Easy. American Militaret Cemetart 10 minutes away and so moving. They do offer a 1000 and 1800 drop/pickup to the bus from the hotel so this is also an option. Enjoy and thanks. Would love to return and it is so beautiful and peaceful that you may not even want to go into Firenze as we did.

Hotel guests are not the priority

Nice location, but no friendly welcome and the rooms were very basic even if colorful. They were entertaining a wedding party so we had to dine at the side of the hotel on some gravel which felt like we were being secluded from the main event. Service of dinner was slow and my children had their meals a full 15 minutes before ours arrived and we ordered all at the same time. Family and friends are constantly on the premises and clearly the hotel guests play 3rd fiddle to them and the weddings, party's that they seem to constantly hold. The pool was not available either when we arrived so all in all - nice location and good amenities (if they were made available), but not such a hospitable environment.

hotel is located on the top of a hill overlooking Florence and surrounding areas. beautiful view. the villa is decorated with contemporary, fun art. it doesn't really reflect the fact that it was an old monastery and that the church is still in operation. the food is expensive and not worth it. I ordered \"thin slices of slow-cooked pork\" and received one thick, dry pork chop with more fat than meat. the hotel makes its money on events so be prepared to be treated as second class if you are just staying there. there was an event every night we were there. the bathroom shower did not drain well.

Quiet & romantic, away from the city

The hotel is set in an amazing location with beautiful views, in a very old church. Rooms are fairly good sized & comfortable, though not luxurious. Shuttle service to the bottom of the hill is available @10am & back up @6pm, which is great but you must ask the night prior.
Know that you take bus #37 to Florence; the stop is across the street at the store Il Bottai, and tickets are 2 euros on the bus/1.20 if you buy from a store. You must validate them in the machine on the bus. Coming back, watch for the stop for \"il bottai\" and the shuttle picks you up by the wine shop (which has some amazing deals). One staff member (Andrea, waiter/front desk) was outstanding - friendly, helpful, attentive. Some of the others a bit surly or unwilling to assist. Breakfast buffet was perfect, dinners in restaurant were a bit spendy but outstanding food. Overall an amazing and romantic place if you want to base your Florence adventure a bit outside the city.

This hotel is a one of a kind experience. The view from the top of the hill is surreal. The artwork around the hotel was also very impressive and the food was just amazing. After visiting venice and florence, getting away to quiet Villa Castiglione was just heavenly. Only negative is that it is very hard to find and does not come up on a gps so be sure to look up directions beforehand!

A must stay place

First & foremeost the locaiton is AMAZING!!!!!!! Breath taking views of Florence, gardens to stroll around in, patio area, etc. Service was EXCELLENT!! the staff was very helpful and courteous. There is what I would call a 4-5 star restaurant located in the Hotel with amazing food and also a wonderfully delicious breakfast served daily. Cleanliness & amenities were more than we expected and was just as descirbed in the hotel description. Hotel location, once there, there is a shuttle (specific hours of operation) provided to the main street, where you can ride a bus to Florence for just a few Euros each. A MUST STAY PLACE!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT! Buon divertimento! (Have fun!)

Out of the way, but worth it!

We will be back! The hotel was in a beautiful setting, with public transport to Florence within a 20 minute walk. Our room was large & comfortable, and the view was amazing. We had dinner at the hotel one night & it was our best meal in Italy. A cab ride into Florence was only about 20 Euro including the tip.

Very friendly staff, very helpful with advice on places to visit and times to get there. Nearly everyone had some English, unusual in such a small guest house. There is a good collection of modern art displayed as well as religious art in keeping with part of the building still being occupied by Passionist priests. The priest is a good english speaker and welcomes guests if they wish to take part in services.
A wedding was celebrated at the hotel when we were there and in spite of upwards of a hundred diners we were still looked after well.
The accomodation was all designed by an italian modern artist and is really unusual, rooms are simple but well equipped, the pool was scrupulously clean and the food is of a very high quality in the restaurant. The terrace overlooks Florence which is all lit up at night with the Duomo clearly visible. Being a couple of km to the motorway network means access to Tuscany in general is superb.

Amazing hotel

This hotel was perfect for us - near enough to Florence but felt like you were in the heart of Tuscany. As other reviewers have said, you need a car or be prepared to spend money on taxis as it is up a long winding road. Having a car is great to explore Tuscany anyway so I'd recommend it. The tip from a previous reviewer on setting the sat nav to Bottai then following the signs was extremely useful - we arrived late at night and this was a lifesaver! As you're driving through Bottai look out for lots of signs on the left -Villa Castiglione is one of them. The building is amazing, the grounds are well kept and the pool is lovely. Its very arty with unusual furniture, not to everyones tastes I'm sure but I loved it! The room was spacious and comfy. Service was good if a little inconsistent - the girl who greeted us on our first night was really helpful, bringing us beers and snacks after we arrived late at night. Not all the staff were as attentive and sometimes its hard to find someone on reception, but generally it was fine. There was a wedding on when we arrived but we found it fun to see the Italians partying! We ate in the restaurant on a Monday when there is a limited menu but it was still fantastic - I highly recommend the pasta with ragout. Breakfast was delicious too, excellent coffee and homemade orangey croissants which were divine. The offer they have on is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a romantic, relaxing stay in a beautiful part of the world.

It was a very nice hotel, with cute and quirky design elements. The entire facility was immaculately clean and the staff very responsive. The new jazz evenings were a nice touch. Good breakfast with ample choice. Please note: the address is listed as Impruneta. While this may be true, it is located around 1 mile from Florence city limits and the autostrada exit. It's very convenient to the city.

Best base to explore Tuscany

We used Villa Castiglione as a base to explore Tuscany and Florence. It was brilliant, the guest house is about 10mins easy drive from the hear of Florence, close to the Autostrade and the local back routes. The views from the Guest house cannot be matched! Friendky staff and excellent food made our stay very memorable.

Amazing! A truly beautiful hotel, situated in Tuscan countryside, a tranquil, calm and peaceful retreat just 10-15 mins drive from Florence. However, ideally, you do probably need a car to stay at Villa Castiglione. Special offer was incredible value for money, a stunning room with a view and a fantastic breakfast included. The Restaurant does need to be booked well in advance. There is a little place just down the drive with both great food and service.

This converted monastery is situated very high up in the hills above Florence giving a glorious view of the city. The only downside is that there are a lot of electricity pylons. The accommodation is excellent and the staff very friendly. I would certainly recommend eating there as we had the best meal throughout our stay in Italy. Starters are very large and can be shared. Chef is top notch - unfortunately we didn't eat there on our second night and have regretted it ever since - especially when upon our return all the guests were overheard stating how fantastic their sea bass was.

Not quite the getaway we planned

So the hotel was as far from the centre of Florence as expected. Definately recommend having your own transport if staying here (large car park and very secure) or good walking shoes for the 20minute downhill walk to the nearest bus stop (30-35min back uphill walk). Buses and taxis all very good for getting into Florence. The hotel was very picturesque and lovely that the church attached is still used (the bells would be rung on a regular basis but seemed to very kindly be only between the hours of 8am and 9pm). THE BIGGEST LET DOWN was that the hotel advertised as having a swimming pool but as of May 2012 it was still in the process of being built. Would have been perfect to have a dip in the pool after a hot day sight seeing in Florence. Felt as though a lot of things were still in the process of being built - can imagine it will be amazing once it is all finished. It also seemed to be used as a venue for other events (birthday meals and corporate events) in the communal outdoor seating area. Felt like we were intruding and put us off sitting outside during those times. Would be better if there was a different area used for these events. Breakfast was as expected and breakfast staff very helpful and friendly. Restaurant in the evening was pricey but tasty. Receptionist/ waitress we were greeted by seemed not too happy about dealing with us but rest of the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall the hotel was nice but would be amazing if the above amendments were made.

Can't get any better!

Villa was ABSOLUTELY phenomenal! Views and location for an ultimate Tuscany region getaway are perfect. HOWEVER, this villa is very hard to find. Internet says it is in the town of Impruneta, but it is not. When using GPS, plug in the town of\" \"Bottai\" and you can then follow signs that the villa has posted in town. As you drive into Bottai, you'll look for sign amongst other signs on your left hand side as you are driving North . Follow signs and eventually you'll get there. Go during the day, at night, VERY dark!

We loved it! It is not in the center of the city but in car it only takes 10 minutes to the center. The views are absolutely beautiful, you really feel in Tuscany. It has a pool and a beautiful patio where they have events that you can go to. We had a concert on one of the night that we stayed there and our room was the closest to the event and we couldn't hear anything. We obviously opened the windows because we wanted to listen to the music, but when closed, the room is very well insulated. The breakfast was good, they offer juices, coffee, capuccino, fruits, bread, pastries, hard boiled eggs, ham, cheese, nutella, etc.

Once you find the place it is like a hidaway jewel its ideal for useing as a base for all of the surronding area also has lots of walks to do if you want to keep fit , but they must do something re finding the place took use 2 hours even with satnav the adress is for villa rosa some 5 miles away up very tight single track roads which in the dark are not easy even after several stops to ask it is not very clear just wear it is need a map posting on website otherwise great place

This is a nice spacious hotel with large rooms. Staff was helpful even letting me use their computer. It's hard to find, needed to ask directions twice. Sits on a hill with great views. The little town below has a good restaurant. Very peaceful, but not too close to Florence. It was a nice stay. Modernistic furnishings. Very nice though.

I found out the address of the hotel is not 100%correct. it still in florence area. so if you using GPS, find the address under florence not impruneta. address is Via Di Colle Ramole 20, florence.
Once your GPS can locate it, is easy to find. The location is up on the hill with beautiful view. The room is spacious with nice firm bed. the shower size is small, but the bathroom size is average.
The hotel is clean and well kept. Hotel staff can speak english. The breakfast is okay.
We had dinner at local trattoria, called Vecchia bettola, the food is great, the waiter can speak english.
the downfall of this hotel is doesnt have swimming pool.

We took our honeymoon in Florence and stayed here because we didn't want to deal with the traffic and noise of the city itself. When considering this guest house, please remember it is not a full service hotel at all, and perhaps nothing that you're accustomed to. It was quiet , pleasant, and the staff are very accomodating, however. Its situated on top of a mountain or large hill overlooking Florence and is surrounded by Olive tree groves. Its a nice alternative to a busy hotel in the city and although difficult to find at first (even with a TomTom GPS), we found our way and used the public transportation (Bus) to get into the city several times. For what it is, I am glad we stayed there, and would do so again.

stayed here while passing through Tuscany on our way to northern Italy. We appreciated the convenient location and easy access. The space was very, very large, which was a plus; however, it lacked a bit of charm and attention to detail. The breakfast was excellent, and the restaurant for dinner was also very good.

Great place. Peaceful spot. Abudance of parking within the property. Fantastic views from the particular, spacoius room. Loved the Florentine decor. The swimming pool needs attention, that would be the one, negligiblesore point. Dinner at dusk, is amazing. Generous portion. Strongly recommended.

Aconchego e hospitalidade em Impruneta

Tivemos uma experiência incrível no Hotel em Impruneta! A localização é perfeita, a apenas uma curta distância de carro do centro de Florença, com vistas deslumbrantes da região.

O hotel é extremamente aconchegante e acolhedor, com um ambiente familiar que nos fez sentir em casa. O atendimento foi excepcional, com o anfitrião Cesare sendo especialmente gentil e atencioso conosco. Ele sempre esteve disponível para ajudar e oferecer conselhos, com um sorriso no rosto e um humor contagiante.

Além disso, o hotel foi muito flexível quando tivemos um atraso no nosso voo, permitindo que fizéssemos o check-in mais tarde. Isso foi um grande alívio para nós e demonstrou a preocupação do hotel com o bem-estar dos hóspedes.

Em resumo, altamente recomendamos este hotel para quem busca uma experiência autêntica e acolhedora em Impruneta. Obrigado, Cesare e equipe, por tornar nossa estadia tão especial!

Bel hôtel avec une vue merveilleuse

Superbe hôtel dans un cadre magnifique de la Toscane avec vue sur Florence.
Un personnel gentil, souriant avec qui il a été agréable et marrant d’échanger malgré la barrière de langue.
Une mention spécial pour le jeune hôtelier toujours présent dont j’ai oublié le nom mais qui nous aider face à notre problème de voiture et nous a aidé à trouver un garagiste malgré son boulot à faire.

L’hôtel est propre dans un ancien couvert franciscain donc le côté ancien ressort mais c’est ce qui est agréable.
La piscine est bien entretenue avec bar à cocktails.
Côté restaurant, choix sur la carte et c’est très bon.
Le petit dej quand à lui est varié et changement côté sucré d’un jour à l’autre c’est agréable.

On reviendra c’est certain !

Hotellet hade väldig stor potential. Låg extremt fint bland vingårdarna med utsikt över florens. Restaurangen var dock dålig, fanns ingen tillgänglig service vid poolen och vid lunch tid. Middagsmenyn var dålig. Frukosten var dålig och deras kaffe smakade varm chockad. Inredningen och skicket på huset var ganska dåligt. Hade dem rustat upp hotellet och gjort restaurangen hade det varit helt perfekt. Tips är att bo där men att åka in till florens för att äta. Finns även Coop i närheten där man kan köpa lunch och frukost.

Wir hatten 2 Übernachtungen mit Frühstück.
Die Unterkunft ansich hat uns gut gefallen, auch die Art und Weise der Einrichtung. Ganz besonders der Blick über Florenz. Die erwähnten Dachterrassen wären schöner, wenn man darauf auch sitzen könnte und die Blumentöpfe bepflanzt wären. So war es einfach nur eine höher gelegene Fläche. Wir durften /konnten den Pool nicht nutzen, weil an beiden Tagen unseres Aufenthalts Veranstaltungen stattfanden (das war tatsächlich die Begründung eines Mitarbeiters). Diese Veranstaltungen fanden nicht unten am Pool statt. Man müsste aber den Bereich der Veranstaltung durchqueren, um zum Pool zu gelangen. Wir hatten alles in allem das Gefühl, Gäste 2. Klasse zu sein, weil alles auf die Veranstaltungen (es waren private Feiern) konzentriert war. Einen Parkplatz zu bekommen, bedeutet, Glück zu haben, wenn Veranstaltungen sind. Das Frühstück war in Ordnung. Die Fliegengitter vor den Fenstern waren kaputt. Die Sauberkeit im Zimmer war prima.

En pärla

Vi upptäckte denna pärla av en slump på väg från södra Italien och hem till Sverige. Omgivningen och boendet är fantastiskt och närheten till Florens perfekt om man vill lämna bilen på hotellet och ta en taxi (30 euro) in till Ponte vecchio och Uffizi. Rekommenderas!

Piacevole ed accogliente, sulle colline poco distante dal casello. Strada collinare per arrivarci, stretta in alcuni tratti. Buon parcheggio e discretamente illuminato. Camere arredate in modo particolare, bagni piastrellati con molto colore. Impianto di ricircolo aria dei bagni abbastanza comunicante con altri, quindi voci ed odore di fumo si sentono. La sera dalle scale sale un po odore di cucinato. N.B. ho pagato 1,5 eu di tassa di soggiorno anzichè 1 come riportato su Expedia
