The property is really really old. As in, not just from outside, but everything inside too.
The furniture is so old that you won’t prefer putting even your clothes on it.
The bed & mattress wasn’t comfortable at all.

The only good thing is the location and the view from the property in the morning.
Pienza is so small that you can easily look for a property just outside the walled area.

We booked a deluxe room with a hill view and was given a room that was facing a garden, no hill at all. I spoke to the lady at the desk in the morning insisted it was the right room when it was not. We checked in very late due to some accident on the road and the hotel assured us it’s still ok to come. We decided to still go and looking forward to the view when we wake up but instead were looking at the wall and ground of the building. We paid for what we booked and should have received it no matter what the time. The lady said well it was very late and that was the only room available! It doesn’t make sense.

This property was a 15 century convent which has been converted into a hotel in the midst of a UNESCO world heritage site. The views at the rear of the hotel are breathtaking. A magical place.

Great Town, not so great hotel

The hotel it's ok It's a former Franciscan Convent dating back to 13th century!
Depending of the room.it will be room size. The best views you will get from the outside terrace where breakfast it's served
Amazing views of Toscana
The hotel it's located right in the middle of the town Pienza right next to the church
One big problem, it's LOADING AND UNLOADING luggage specially if you have a lot of heavy luggage
Being INSIDE the medieval town cars are NOT allowed in front of the hotel
You must park on streets outside the town wall
That it's about 6 to7minutes walk, uphill, thru pavers streets that could destroy your luggage wheels
Also on that street you are only allow to park for 30 minutes It was a problem for us first finding a parking spot on that street (they were all taken) and then had to unload walk to the hotel with the luggage, and then back to the car within the 30 minutes
The hotel DOES NOT HAVE PARKING so if you are traveling with a car this could be a problem
We had to park in a public PAID PARKING about 30 minute walk from the hotel
No one from the hotel helped us to unload, or load our luggage at check in/checkout
On another note and you may laugh about this if you are SENSITIVE do NOT stay here
My wife and a friend COULD NOT sleep all night long
The place felt being \"Hunted\" Remember this was an OLD CONVENT MONASTERY FROM 13 CENTURY A lot of thing happened here and a lot of people died here
If you like \"hunted like\" experiences this is the place for you

The hotel it's okThe Hotel it's a former Franciscan Convent dating back to the 13th century !!! Depending of the room you have (we had a room with HILL SIDE VIEW) and it was a pretty good size

The best views you'll get from the outside terrace where you will have breakfast
Amazing views of Toscana

The hotel it's located right in the middle of the town (Pienza) right next to the church as it was and old Franciscan Convent from XIII century

Beautiful hotel in a beautifully preserved town centre. Bags of atmosphere and history and generous service and breakfasts.
The hotel is in the pedestrianised old town so vehicle access and parking is not catered for. The upside however is its central location and access to local amenities on foot or by bike.
We had a wonderful stay here.

One night stay during a stopover in Pienza (cool town!). Unfortunately this hotel didn't have functional air conditioning as advertised. Supposedly it had been turned off for the season despite Italy having near record daytime highs for this time of year. The staff did attempt to help by reactivating the in room AC units on our floor but it was completely ineffective. I believe it was 'functional' in the sense that the in room unit had power but it cooled the room 0%. We had 2 rooms and they acted the same way. We were given a fan and slept with the windows open but just couldn't get enough airflow intol the room despite the outside temperature being very pleasant sweatshirt weather. I know this can be the case in Europe, but as an American who seeks out places that advertise AC, this was a big letdown. I will say the breakfast and hotel location/views are excellent.

This property was in a perfect location if you would like to visit Pienza. The restaurant on site - whilst not affiliated with the hotel sits right above the pool so found it a bit awkward leaving the pool and walking through people dining. Their drinks were also so expensive and not worth it - so avoid ordering off them if you are not wanting to spend a lot of money. Otherwise the hotel staff were pleasant and the breakfast was incredible!

We booked nine months earlier but were given probably the worst rooms. Ours was right next to a restuarant bar which was noisy until midnight and the rooms above were noisy. The double glazing was totally inaffective at blocking sound.

Our daughter's room was on the far side of the hotel and couldn't receive wifi or phone reception and the staff simply said the walls were too thick.

Would never stay there again.

Iconic hotel in fantastic setting right in the centre of Pienza. We upgraded our room to a suite at a not unreasonable price as the standard room was bleak. It is a very old historic building so there are going to be not ideal rooms. We accept the drawbacks of the old building but it is tired and would benefit from a comprehensive sensitive refurbishment scheme. Terrace restaurant stunning and food good but somewhat overpriced. Overall a unique place to stay

Our two nights at the Hotel Relais ll was very enjoyable. The accommodations were comfortable, and the breakfast superb. It was nice to walk through a medieval town and then enter your lodging via an attractive garden. The staff was exceptionally kind and easy going.

Great place to stay in Penzia, location can be a bit tricky to find as most of the evenings driving is not aloud to the entrance. Just a short walk from the square. Follow parking instructions from host as there is none on site. Breakfast is great, did not have a chance to dine for dinner but menu looked really good. Great town to stay in, will be back.

We rented 2 rooms. One room was large with a couch and the couple loved. Our room was small, which didn't bother me, but it was very stuffy. Had trouble sleeping because of the air quality. Also would have liked to know at the time of rental that the hotel was in a ZTL zone. So we could not pull up to the hotel and unload all of our luggage.

Excellent facilities. But two serious issues. First, when we arrived it was the day of the Corpus Domini Procession. This meant that the streets were strewn with leaves and flowers and cars were meant to stay clear from the centre. But our instructions said we should drive to the hotel, with no warning about the Procession. We were stopped by the police and told to leave at once; the crowd were understandably hostile, knocking on our car windows to tell us we shouldn't be there. This was extremely embarrassing and we felt terrible that we had disrupted this important celebration. When we mentioned this to the staff, they said we should have looked on their website (we could see no reference there). Second, we had lunch at the hotel and also found the staff there inattentive and unfriendly. This is the reason for our \"Terrible\" rating

This was by far the worst room I’ve ever booked. Was tiny, dark, the floors were sticky and damp. How on earth this hotel is classified as “4-star” is beyond me. There was no assistance with luggage. Towels extremely thin, no bathroom toiletries to speak of (1 tube of multi shower gel/shampoo, one bath towel). Wi-Fi signal non existent, tv didn’t work, air conditioning didn’t work. Room was on back side of hotel with view of another building’s exterior wall - so depressing, it felt like a prison cell. Extremely noisy until late at night because there was a restaurant right behind my room. And above me…were apparently housed a pair of elephants, who could be heard stomping and running water all hours of the night and early morning. Was supposed to stay for 3 nights, checked out after the first night to move to a better accommodation. Was offered a different room when I told them I was unhappy and checking out but I couldn’t bear to stay there another minute so lost my prepaid money just so I could get out of there.

Overall the place looks amazing. The view from the terrace is breathtaking....

There is no parking, I was looking for parking about 35 minutes.
There is no order in the breakfast, people that came after us got their breakfast before us... Made us feel not good.
The pool water is ice cold.

Parking - probably would be great to have better upfront explanation from the hotel. Its not a big problem to park the car: you park at a short term parking in 50 m from the hotel, unload the bags, and repark the car at the public free parking. Also there is underground parking (belonging to another hotel) available for 20 euros per day - so if you have an expensive rented car and you want to often use the car - its a better option (as you don't need to gues whether parking is free or not)
Some basic rooms can be very small and dark (but still quite good)

Fabulous views.

Overall a pleasant stay but lacking in some simple things that would have made a difference like only a few coat hangers in the wardrobe, no coat hooks to hang coats, no shelves in the bathroom for toiletries. The best thing about the hotel was the fabulous terrace with fantastic views which would have been lovely to have relaxed there with a glass of wine but unfortunately we were unable to get a drink as there was no bar service so we had to go elsewhere.

This place was comfortable for our needs. It was in the center of activity, still quiet, and relaxing. Many of the showers in Europe are small, this was no exception. Since we didn’t spend much time in the room, there wasn’t a need for much space, the room was small. We could have use another place to set luggage. The facilities are beautiful and the view from the patio/restaurant were spectacular!

My room was amazing and I really liked everything about he room especially the ceiling.

I really like the room key but it was really heavy. Lol you got to try it.

The only negative thing was the room heater, they switched it off at night and it was really really cold. I did not bring it to the hotel staff attention as I only found our early morning that the heater was switched off.

The patio area is absolutely incredible. The breakfast is fantastic, especially when we had our breakfast outside in the patio. Maurizio, hotel restaurant manager is so awesome and helpful.
Elisa at the receiptiion desk is patient and gave us phenomenal service when we first arrived and during our stay. She is the best. Please acknowledge her amazing work. Tremendous thanks to this wonderful and lovely hotel. The parking isn’t far from the hotel at all even the free ones. Besides one can ask for a permit to drive past the gate to be dropping off ones ‘ luggage’s. The hotel is a gem for its price. We love our stay. Also we would love to point out that some of the recent reviews about the hotel not being clean, having bed bugs aren’t true at all. Overall We are glad to have booked the hotel without paying attention to the untrue reviews.

My husband and I have traveled a lot in Italy and we typically stay at 4-5 star hotels. This hotel is a bit difficult to rate. Our room overlooked the Tuscan hills and the views were spectacular! This part I would rate 5 stars. However that said the hotel is a bit run down which you notice as soon as you arrive to the reception. The room is clean but again you see a bit of wear and tear. Based on this i rated it a 2 or 3 star hotel. The receptionist Elise was exceptional. The servers at breakfast looked like they preferred to be somewhere else,you were lucky if they mumbled \"Good morning\" ... Elise made up for their lack of customer service. At the end of the day this hotel is very affordable. A bit difficult to find as you are not permitted to drive through the historic zone. If you are lucky you can find parking nearby at no cost. Paid parking was about $10 euros per night

Excellent location, one of the very best boutique hotels in Pienza. Choose a room with Hill view is a must. It's decoration is just so adorable, a perfect fit with the beautiful sceneries of Tuscany. Breakfast has good selections of pies, cold cut deli, bread and fruits as a proper continental breakfast should be. Parking in Pienza is not convenient compared to other areas but that's not a big issue. You can park around the town. All in all, it's a great hotel with stunning views. You will love it

The location of the hotel-- right in the heart of the town of Pienza-- was perfect. You could walk to every fabulous restaurant, gelateria, etc. within a few minutes and there were lots of charming shops nearby. Parking in Pienza was a bit difficult as it is a popular destination for tourists during the day so there were times we had to circle around the non-ZTL zone a few times until we could find a spot. The bed and pillows in the hotel were the most comfortable out of all 4 places we stayed in Italy during our trip this time. Our only complaint was that the air is centralized so we didn't have any control over the temperature of our room. Since we were on the top floor, heat rises and it was very stuffy during the daytime. Other than that the facility was extremely clean, staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast (and views) were wonderful!

The first room they gave me was not what I booked. I had a deluxe room with a hill view. They gave me a small old room looking out onto the garden.
They advertised valet parking and private parking. No such thing. Staff was not warm, friendly or helpful. Exterior was beautiful, interior was an ailing 3 star. My curtains were ripped. The view was incomparably stunning once I changed rooms.

Very nice hotel, historic and lovely views. Massive comfy bed in the deluxe room and the staff were really friendly. The breakfast was really nice, just what we wanted. Central location to pienza also.

This hotel has a wonderful position and fine rooms. If the furniture in the rooms was upgraded, this could be a very luxurious hotel indeed. As it is, it is good value for money

We stayed for three nights in late April.
The location was excellent, an old convent in the heart of Pienza.
The room was spacious and clean - elevator access as well.
Great breakfasts on the patio in the sun.
Evenings were spent on the patio overlooking the Val d'Orcia being spoiled by Claudia, our gracious hostess.
This was our best stay of our two weeks in Italy

Staff was very good and very helpful. Parking is not easy. And we got a 28 eu ticket. Centrally located to other places. One night is sufficient.

Amazing.

Let me start by saying that I spent only one night at the hotel... It was a beautiful, clean property with amazing view!
The room was clean and comfortable, and the front desk lady was very nice. There are plenty of coffee shops and food in the area to choose from. Please notice that there is no parking on the street of the hotel (and all others if you want the view...), you will have to park away and walk for few minutes but it is a nice walk. I am planing on going back!

Rude breakfast staff

Location is good, at night it's too noisy though. Parking is a hard. The receptionist at front fest is sweet but the breakfast stuff is terrible. Milk is canned milk, stuff attitude is arrogant at breakfast. The view is nice.

STAY AWAY

As soon as we arrived, elevator broke down. Room was on 4th floor and hotel staff expected my disabled sister and senior mom to take the stairs or be carried on someones back. Our prepaid room were not even refunded. Ridiculous and lousy. Stay away

Only an economy room, but still nice!

I stayed for two nights in an economy room and the whole experience was very nice! The hotel location is perfect and enjoying breakfast on the terrace looking over Val d’Orcia is unforgettable.

Atmospheric hotel with fabulous views

Lovely old atmospheric place to stay with fabulous views over the valley. Room was very spacious and comfortable. Would recommend going for a room with a view if you can.
