Prime location that needs an upgrade

The positives were that this hotel was in the heart of Montepulciano - walking distance to practically everything within the mountains of Tuscany. Beyond that, it was horribly a let down.

The front desk woman, while lovely, was not help in trying to explain where their parking was. She gave me directions based off of Google maps. When I told her I didn't have Google Maps and tried to put the same info into Apple Maps, she just shrugged and I ended up not finding it at all.

The room itself was beyond dated, between the room you'd expect in a convent circa 1845 or boarding house. I knew going into it there would be no AC, so I mentally prepared for the stifling.

Also, as with many European Hotels, they have an elevator/lift only to have you walk another 6-8 stairs to get to your room.

Like I said, for one night, I survived, but I don't think I would have wanted to be here for longer than that.

The location at the top of the hill was great. Easily accessible and a within a beautiful building. The breakfast was all one could ask for. I especially want to praise the young lady at reception (I am so sorry I did not ask her name, but she wore glasses) was so very helpful when we experienced a lost item that, thanks to her, we eventually found. Thank you, thank you, grazie mille giovane donna.

This hotel is very worn down and needs a complete renovation. The room was tiny, the furniture was worn, the bed was hard and one could feel the coils in the mattress. The bathroom was in bad condition. The shower had completely black moldy looking grout by the floor and the toilet smelled awful when flushing. This hotel does not have air conditioning but they provided a cheap desk fan. We opened the window and put the fan on the ledge for fresh cool air. There was one plug shared between a dorm looking college sized empty fridge, a very stained desk lamp, and said fan. Thus, one had to choose which of the three one wanted to run….. The location of this disaster couldn’t have been better! Right on the Main Street and in a beautiful old building. This could easily be a 4 star hotel but barely reached the level of decent hostel. Unfortunately, the hotel put a big damper on our stay.

Best breakfast during our two-week stay in Tuscany

Since we were driving from Siena, we were pleased to learn that the Albergo Duomo has its own reserved parking area close to the hotel. When our GPS suggested a wrong turn as we arrived in Montepulciano, we were relieved that our innkeeper was able and willing to provide navigation services to get us safely down the Corso and into the hotel parking lot. Our room was spacious, with beautiful vaulted ceilings, but it was somewhat dark and not equipped with air conditioning. The bathroom was small but contained all of the standard hotel amenities. There was a small surcharge for breakfast, which was served, buffet-style, in a spacious dining area that opened onto a courtyard with outdoor seating and consisted of a wide variety of delicious breakfast foods, including hard boiled eggs, cheese, and cured meats in addition to pastries, cereal, yogurt, bread, and fruit. Our innkeeper was available to make coffee, espresso, and cappuccino to order. The Albergo Duomo is conveniently located near a number of restaurants and a park and not far from important sights and shopping.

Awesome location and nice staff. This is our second time staying here. Large room but very small shower and the mattresses on the beds needs to be replaced. Also note the noise in the mornings outside is very loud with the garbage trucks. That being said,it’s still a great place to stay for a quick stay.

Alesso, the hotel manager was the man. He grew up in the Montepulciano area.. From helping organize our Day trips to explanation of the Italian language, where to wine and dine Alesso, made our daily trips to the Tuscany hill towns so so so much better. Our only regret is that he was not working the morning we checked out, and was not able to say thank you and goodbye.

This place is all about location. Staff were very helpful as well. Great showers. It is an old building so you can hear unconsiderate guests who are loud. Bed and Pillows are hard which seems to be the Italian way. All in all, a great place for the price.

Stay in a fortress and relive history

You are staying in a building that is centuries old, so do not expect the Waldorf Astoria, but this hotel was SPOTLESS, the service was wonderful, our room was spacious (bathroom was the size of a small closet) and we were staying inside a 15th century fortress... you can not blend history, archeology and fun like this often. This hotel was also used for costuming for one of the Twilight movies and there are photos in the lobby for you to enjoy. They have a nice breakfast every morning... DEFINITELY will stay here again.

Nice hotel in the heart of Montepulciano

I drove to the hotel and getting there was an experience! Driving in these tiny streets can be nerve wracking. The hotel fortunately has reserved parking space. The staff was attentive and pleasant.
My bedroom was large and the bed comfortable. Unfortunately, my bedroom did not have access to a window.
The Wi-Fi signal was strong and included and the breakfast was totally worth the extra euros.

Good is you have a car.

This hotel is in a great location, can drive up to it to unload luggage, and they have a place you can park. Easy to park and leave as well. Staff was so very helpful, great restaurant suggestions. Hotel rooms were a little dated, but clean and comfortable, and quiet. Wifi was spotty. Would stay here again.

Returning to Fiesole with warm feelings

I had been to Montepulciano before and stayed at other places... but this Albergo was the BEST... The welcoming staff as well as the cleaning staff were superbly kind and efficient and that counts with me... There was a movie crew there blocking the roads at he top when I had to get down that mountain and the man on duty said that if he had his car handy, he would have driven me down... but even he had to walk. That kind of thoughtfulness makes a place special.

Comfortable Hotel in Excellent Location

We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel. The location could not be better: at the top of the town near the main piazza, which makes it easy to walk downhill through the entire town, and then take the shuttle bus up the steep main street back to the hotel. Parking was very convenient and free, with easy entry and exit. We spent one day touring the hill towns of Tuscany in the area, and appreciated the ability to enter and leave the parking area and the town easily. Breakfast, although not included in our rate, was excellent and without question worth the 5 euros extra per person. The personnel at reception were very helpful and offered excellent recommendations for dining nearby. Montepulciano is a beautiful hill town, well worth a visit, and Albergo Duomo is an excellent base for exploring the town the the surroundings.

Wonderful Hotel in the heart of the tiny town of Montepulciano. We came here for a little peace after Florence and of course to taste the wine. The staff was so very helpful in getting us directions to the hotel and then to their off site parking. Also great recommendations for wineries and restaurants nearby. We walked no more than a mile all day to do tastings at 6 wineries and to eat a great dinner.

City Center Perfect for 1-Night Visit

Staff were very helpful and very responsive to email and with questions we had upon our arrival. Easy to find with GPS, a perfect location just inside the city walls, and free parking. We only had 1-night in Montepulciano so city-center location was perfect to enjoy this lovely hilltop community with magnificent views, a wonderful dinner at Quattro Venti, and explore the town before leaving then next day.

After reviewing so many positive reviews, we were disappointed in room comfort. Location was good but very loud as windows needed to be open for some air to enter room. Bathroom was tiny. It was clean and functional.

We came to Montepulciano as part of our road trip and times it especially to see the 'Bravìo delle Botti' festivities. The hotel is located in the heart of Montepulciano literally steps away from the main square with parking available around 30m away. The hotel met our needs ideally. It was great value and the room, though small, was clean and comfortable - the one downside was the lack of aircon, although a fan was provided. Breakfast is available although we didn't have it. The staff were friendly and able to provide any information we needed. The only other negative (and a minor one) is that because the corridors are nice and modern with tiling, there's no soft furnishings to deaden the noise of other guests in the hotel - it's all a bit echoey.

I had a great experience. The hotel was in a stunning location. It was very modern - which I was not expecting. The shower had a hand painted mural and was very modern and large. The room was large and had a lot of character. They staff left books about he area and its history in various languages. The staff was very accommodating. We had to leave early the next morning and the woman said she would happily get up early and provide coffee and breakfast. The town is amazing and the view from the room overlooks it all!

It is clean, very conveniently located close to the shuttle bus stop that brings you up from the bus station at the bottom of the hill. Beautiful little hotel right on the main piazza

Montepulciano is a beautiful little town, everything is Medieval, dating back to the Etruscans. The town is a must on your trip to Tuscany, especially for the fantastic vino Nobile de Montepulciano! This hotel is centrally located, right on the main town square, across the narrow street from the main cathedral. The location is perfect for sightseeing although if you arrive by car, there is no on-site parking. Parking is available just two blocks away in a free public lot. It is tricky to find after dark, but the very friendly young woman at the front desk went with me in the car to direct me to the parking area. Driving on the narrow streets of the old town is fun but be careful, GPS is not always accurate. The hotel is very nice and clean everywhere. Our room was clean and the bathroom facilities were small but adequate. The hotel is very quiet and we got a great night's sleep! Breakfast is not included but available for only 5 Euros per person. The hotel is close to a few great wine tasting enoteca, and good restaurants. Overall, this was one if our best hotels throughout Tuscany, and we recommend it highly.

There were 2 twin beds in the room and they had been pushed together and made up to look like a double, i spent half the night rolling into the crack between them, so uncomfortable. Front desk guy was great, very helpful.

I'd say it's pretty hard to find a bad location within Montepulciano gates. This hotel is nice because it's at the top of the hill, and they have parking very close. Unfortunately, we didn't know this, so we parked at the bottom and sweated it out with our luggage all the way to the top. Lesson learned: do your research and find out where to park *before* arriving in Italy! Now that I have that out of the way, this was a great hotel. Very comfortable, friendly concierge that made an AMAZING recommendation for dinner (the Osteria nearby that serves family-style - ask about it), and a great location. Nice bathrooms, powerful shower, pitch-black darkening shutters! Couldn't ask for much more.

You would be lucky to get a room at Albergo Duomo. Why? Montepulciano is a treat in itself. It is a hilltop village of immense beauty. If you are of the 5-star crew looking for pools and astounding amenities go elsewhere and visit Montelpulciano on an afternoon. Otherwise, go here.The hotel is a 13 room family-run affair. The rooms, windows, ceilings are old-style and entirely charming. The sitting room is an elegant living room with free biscotti to dip into sweet Swine in the evening. Savario, the main proprietor, with his sister and mother, are charming, gracious and helpful with EVERYTHING - walking routes, restaurants, car repair (we had a mishap - by the way Albergo has great free parking), vineyards in the region. The room was meticulously clean, charming. The bathroom, as in so many Euro villages, a little cramped, but clean and doable. If you get off your behind and walk the village and down the hill - don't do it if you are near cardiac arrest - you will be rewarded. A hotel is the experience. The rooms were nice, spacious and clean. It was a flying visit so didn't get a chance to eat there or use any of the facilities. It took us a while to locate the hotel and it's parking area was even harder to find. A more noticable sign outside the hotel wouldn't go astray - we drove past it twice.

Very friendly brother-sister owners who were helpful and spot on in their evaluations of restaurants and places to visit. My only complaint was the very small size of the bathroom. As a 6'2\" male I was in constant danger of banging my head while showering...and so on.

Outstanding Location

We loved the quaintness and location of this hotel. The innkeeper was so wonderful in making us feel at home with suggestions on what to do and where to eat in the area. The breakfast was outstanding. The surrounding area is breathtaking, to say the least. We would definitely stay here again.
