Filthy. Absolutely disgusting. Floors in the hallway look like they’ve never been vacuumed. Ever. Shower and sink faucets falling apart. Shower stall itself falling apart. The walls and all painted surfaces are incredibly dirty and stained. Bed linens were thin and stained. I assume they were laundered and just stained, but didn’t take any chances and slept above the covers. Yech. The first room we were assigned wasn’t cleaned properly and smelled like insecticide. The second room was cleaner. The hotel is in a good location and has potential to be really cute and unique. It can’t ever be super-luxurious because of what it is made from, but I think that could definitely be turned into an asset- it’s interesting and niche. People would feel a little closer to history. But you HAVE GOT to properly clean and maintain it. Please do better.

Stay elsewhere if your budget allows

This is an old, run down place and quarters are very tight and cramped. There is a handicapped ramp but NO ELEVATOR. I'm 72 and have arthritis and they stuck me on the 2nd floor which meant I hauled a 50 lb. Suitcase up a set of stairs with no offer of help. Breakfast was pretty good but carpet was old and stained and looked like no one had tried to vacuum it in weeks.

Way more run down than the pictures show. The carpet in our rooms were heavily stained and we had paint peeling off the wall above the window. The room had a slightly strange smell upon arrival but it did end up going away and wasn’t noticeable after a few hours. The furniture was heavily used and extremely worn. The nicest part of the rooms were the bathrooms. Every vending machine I saw was out of order and the breakfast area wasn’t that clean so we only ate the first morning. Both nights there was a lot of noise above us, like someone moving furniture at 10pm. We had asked in advance to have rooms right next to each other, which was confirmed before our stay and we were told we were locked in side by side. Upon arrival, the gentleman who checked us in seemed a little confused and could only get us in the same hallway several rooms apart. Wouldn’t be such a big deal, but we were traveling with children and had asked so it could be more convenient for us all to have rooms right next to each other. At the end of the day with slim pickings in Valdez, it was a roof over our heads but I do wish we would’ve paid even more to stay somewhere else since looking back, the cost seems a little high anyway for the quality and the pictures did not match the actual condition of the hotel.

We arrived at the hotel and got our keys to our room, went upstairs to it and inside were trash cans full of garbage, sheets gone, blankets strewn across the furniture (maybe the sheets were in one of those piles). I went back downstairs and told the front desk, they said they have only one more room available. We lost our views, gained a room that upon entering immediately smelled like butane gas. Had to open the window and keep it open for a long time to air out. Even then, it continued to have a musky smell to it. 1 out of 5, would not recommend unless you have no choice.

If you like the smell of diesel fuel first thing in the morning, then this is the place. Carpet dirty, under the bed was flat nasty! No way to control the heat in the room. Continental breakfast was one step above getting a meal from a dumpster behind a restaurant. The reason I give a “poor” rating and not lower is, the shower was hot and powerful! Great way to warm up after a day of fishing in Valdez. It’s a converted pipeline man camp, which if I knew ahead of time, I have booked a room elsewhere.

This property is a dump. The furniture was falling apart, a foam mattress topper was put on top of an old mattress, there were holes in the wall, floor in the bathroom peeling up. Common areas not clean. The bed sore had likely not been washed in weeks. Cringe worthy. Stayed only as there were no other available rooms in Valdez

This is truly a an example of consummate repurposing. This hotel is built with Atco buildings, I would guess that came from the North Slope of Alaska, but they have been well fitted together, and repurposed as a moderate Hotel.
It was clean, the staff was helpful.
The rooms are small, the furniture is dated and well used but the amenities such as soap, shampoo Etc we're not cheap ones, The bathroom was a very comfortable size, and all things were clean. The shower was great We were comfortable.

I should have asked for a refund. We paid more than a nicer hotel. The hole bottom section of the hotel stank of diesel fuel fumes. My husband works for a fuel company so I know the smell. I have had a headache all day from sleeping in the fumes. How the fire department hasnt shut this hotel down is beyond me.

Despite some bad reviews, we personally found this hotel to be very good! It was clean, the staff was great and we loved being next door to a wonderful pizza place. They offered a free continental breakfast, and there was sausage and eggs there, and bread/peanut butter jelly to make lunch! They offer a community frig where you can put your beverages, etc. My friend told me the hotel was built to house the workers of the Exxon Valdez oil spill then later turned into a hotel. Both tourists and workers stay there now. Would stay there again.

Good value if you’re “on the go” most of the time

Small rooms. Not much space to move about. Beds were comfortable. No issues with hot water. Water pressure was good. Self service laundry available. 1 shared frig to store an item or two. Microwave avail in breakfast room. This place was converted from office space into a motel. The heating is central. Can’t control temp from your own room so your window is your thermostat. Open/close. Valdez is small so everything is pretty much walking distance if you want it to be.

No a/c, but they did have a fan that could be placed in the window to cool the room. Hotel was easy to get to and had plenty of parking. Lots of things within walking distance.

Breakfast was included but never put out first day there of our 5 day stay. Other 4 days hot breakfast was available. Room was clean. We booked room with 3 beds for 3 people but every day except one we were only left 2 clean sets of towels and had to request a third at desk.
Good price and nice to find three beds in one room but otherwise not someplace I would recommend to friends.

Decent if you just need a bed

This was the second time we stayed here in a month. This time we stayed in a double room which had a double bed and two twin beds. It is a small room, but met our needs for the one night we were there. If you are just looking for a place to sleep after spending your time around town, this is a decent option. Breakfast was the same as last month: eggs, sausage, toast cereal and coffe/tea.

I was looking for a bed and a shower on this trip. All other lodging options in Valdez this time of year (August) charge a premium. This place worked out great and since it was only a place to sleep, I didn't need anything fancy. As other guests have noted, there isn't much in the way of soundproofing so you can hear your neighbors quite well. It didn't cause any issues for me though earplugs are recommended if you have sensitivity to sounds. The place is showing its age but is maintained well and was clean. I liked the fact it had a guest laundry so I could was my clothes and reset for the rest of my trip. The breakfast is nothing fancy, but again, there was enough there to start the day and there really isn't a breakfast place in town anyway. Great location in town and walkable to anything you need to see in Valdez. I saw many folks there on motorcycle trips. Definitely a great option for riders! I easily recommend this place to anyone looking for a low-budget option.

We had 2 rooms of the same type booked- got the bed size we reserved but the rooms were very different compared to each other when we checked in. Both had comfortable beds but very limited electrical outlets. One had more space and a much bigger bathroom. The other room was tiny, just enough room on the sides of the bed to get into bed, tiny bathroom- but the main issue was the overwhelming smell of diesel or petroleum in this room. Strong smell- not something you were able to ignore or got used to after being there for a while so we didn't sleep well. My PJs and any clothes not zipped in a suitcase still smelled days later.

This hotel is a series of converted shipping containers welded together into rooms and halls. I don’t mind the repurposing per se, but the rooms were claustrophobic, hot, and smelled very strongly of petroleum.
Our first room was clearly never serviced, with trash on the floor and sloppily made bed linens that had not been changed. To the front desk clerk’s credit, though, he was mortified and swiftly got us to a different room that was at least cleaner.
At its best, the property is still made up of just a bunch of crowded, stuffy, oily-smelly shipping containers with 70’s wood paneling and thin carpet.

it was a great place for the road construction workers. You had to climb 2 sets of stairs if you wanted coffee or breakfast. nothing in room to set luggage on, no refrigerator, desk was so small you really couldn't work at it much. Tv was difficult to use. Pipes overhead ran thru the room and noise from air or heat ran through the room, so needed ear plugs to sleep.

The price for Alaska was extremely reasonable. The staff were very nice and super accommodating. The hot water was endless and the water pressure was fantastic. The breakfast was good, as was the coffee. The place is outdated and could use some enhancements, but the room and bathroom were very clean and were great for what we needed which was sleep after a long day of fun! The location is also great, since it is right in town in Valdez, you can walk to all the breweries, restaurants, and museums.

The room carpet was in desperate need of cleaning. The desk chair was an old wooden and metal school room chair. There was a distinct urine smell. Probably the most disappointing was breakfast. It started at 5:30 AM. I went up at 5:57 AM and there was little to choose from. There was coffee, toast, butter, jelly, dry cereal (no milk) and some fruit. There were four other men up there all having toast and coffee for breakfast.

It was an interesting place. The rooms were small but adequate. The price was good. Breakfast was choice of cereal, toast, English muffins, sausage links and scrambled eggs. Also apples and oranges were available, as well as coffee, tea, and hot cocoa. The location was excellent. Rooms wete clean.

Even there was no posted check-out time in the room or at the front deck, we were charged an extra half day's rate for checking-out at 11:15, regardless of the fact that there was nobody around to clean our rooms or who needed to be checked in. Breakfast is pretty minimal and after a few days the watery eggs get to be too much to stomach (which is why we were a few minutes late as we were off getting a decent breakfast at the Mermaid). Would not recommend this hotel nor we will be staying there again in future years.

The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of nearly everything in town. The staff are friendly and do a good jo with service. The rooms are small (9' x 13' with a ~4'x 6' bathroom) and our bed was not very comfortable. However, we did not spend much time in the room so it was not that big of an issue. Breakfast was lacking, but at least had hot scrambled eggs and sausage daily. For the price and location it was not too bad, but I am not sure that I would stay here again.

We asked for them to clean the room and change the sheets and it took 3 hours.
You can hear everything in rooms next to you and the smell of motor oil?? was so strong it took our breath away and hard to breathe and sleep
