Lovely staff and the room was clean and spacious. Good to have a water bottle refill station too, to reduce plastic use. Small kitchen if you need it. Easy walk from the pier and to the Charles Darwin centre.

The hotel was average. Breakfast wasn’t great and it was very noisy all night long. The location is great & the staff was helpful. If you’re looking for a basic hotel this was great. Tips: to get to Santa Cruz take the airport bus($5), a water taxi to other side ($1) & bus to main road ($5). It’s cheaper than taking a private taxi & it takes the same amount of time. It leaves you off right on the main road & the hotel is 2 blocks away.

The property was acceptable clean. But the the wifi service was only available in the lobby not in the rooms. It would have been great a small refrigerator and coffee maker in the rooms. A cup of coffee is expensive and very bad in this area. If you are a coffee drinker and like it with milk, this is very important.
The pool is so tiny that it looks like a kiddie pool.
If you travel in a budget and need a clean place this is the one for you.

I had a room on the 4th floor and it was very difficult to carry 4 suitcases all by myself because my daughtet is not strong enough to help. They should have a bell boy to.provide this service

The staff was not friendly or unfriendly, the pool pictured is right in front of the checkin desk and near the tables that people can sit at. It makes it awkward if you were to swim. The rooms were fine, small but workable. The wardrobe had 1 hanger.....1 for 2 people. This didn't work so well. The property is clean and centrally located.

It is a trap. It was a prepaid hotel and they charge me extra taxes, bad combative attitude of the front desk Daniel, I had to paid and Expedia did not solve my issues. The policy is not clear and false advertising! I read other reviews about the pool , and is true . It always out of service. The schedule it close at 6 pm!!.

Front desk staff was extremely helpful to arrange tours and ferry tickets. The location was great, since you can easily walk to the pier, Darwin station and food kiosks. Only complain - they were sneaky and omitted some information. For example, they omitted to let us know that hotel was under renovation and that some areas will be restricted (pool) and there will be construction during the day. Also, wifi was only available in the lobby. Overall, it is a good place and location for the price.

For what you pay, this is a very nice place to stay. It is very basic but very clean and comfortable. Somewhere between a hotel and a hostel but for just a little more than a hostel you get the privacy of a hotel. The staff were not super super friendly but were very helpful in making recommendations and overall I'm extremely pleased with the value.

The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful for giving information about the town and tour. Hostal has a nice and quiet common area. The room is clean and big. We were given a nice room for the first two nights with window to the outside. and then we were moved to room #3 which has constant smell. And also there was a noise behind the bathroom which sounds like generator. It goes on and off and even rattled the bathroom door. There is no WiFi inside the room.

Perk is there's a large, comfortable reception area with plenty of seating: couches, chairs, hammocks. The hostel itself is nestled behind a couple of other hostels, and can be a little difficult to locate if you aren't paying attention. My room had everything I needed, though I found the bed to be stiff for my liking. Also, it had a singular window that looked out into the hallway. Some rooms do have windows to the outdoors, and I would have much appreciated one of those... since the air conditioning/fan unit in the wall was rather loud. Wifi was, well, it might have not even existed. This place was good enough for just staying a couple of days; however, if I had a longer reservation, I would've been slightly disappointed.

The room was very small, not like the one in the picture.t was the width of the bed plus about six inches on each side. the smallest I have seen. the person at the desk said all rooms are the same size, which was untrue .Location is very close.to the beach. Food prices more than doubled since five years ago. Price of some items went up 20% in one day:.

Noise Level They Can Hear In Madrid!

Primary RED flag on Hotel Espana is NOISE LEVEL! Street traffic noise is extreme combined with the disco next door results in a high level of noise that I find acceptable. Would not stay again!

If you like to receive the Wi-Fi and air conditioning that you are paying for, I highly suggest that you do not stay at this hotel. During the 3 days I was there, the Wi-Fi worked once for about 10 minutes. At first the staff said that it was because the island doesn't have fiber optic and the internet is bad everywhere. Upon further questioning, it was determined that it's because they share their internet among too many people. I don't know what that means, but I do know that I moved down the street to a cheaper place and the internet works perfectly fine. Most of the time...it is the Galapagos, after all. Since I travel solo and need to be able to contact my family, having zero access to internet was quite stressful. Also, the air conditioner in my room was so loud that I couldn't sleep with it on at all. And, the owners let their children have the run of the place at all hours....making lots of noise, even as late as 10pm one night. The shared kitchen is filthy and has very few utensils, plates, etc. No one seemed to care about the happiness of the guests.

Close to the airport in a peaceful setting

We arrived very late (2AM) after delayed flights. Hotel Espana has a shuttle service to and from the airport which is extremely valuable as it is difficult for a cab driver to find. Miguel was a great host. The hotel is lovely with a homelike setting and feel. We were able to ride into Quito for a small fee with Miguel one day.

One night stay very nice. Staff is very friendly, patient and informative. They helped us get our boat tickets to island hop. Liked the facilities so much we are coming back on our way back to Quito.
It’s clean, comfy beds, HOT water, great location and wonderful staff. Wifi is only available in common area.

Liked most aspects of this hotel. Clean, comfortable, location... but couple of things must improve. The guy at the reception must be more smiling and friendly and the internet connection must improve. The connection was one of the worst I face on the island. Some cafeterias and restaurants had way better connectivity than the hotel.

No wifi in the rooms- only in the lobby area, and if five people are using it, you won't get a connection. Not a 3 star hotel

It is not a 3 star hotel, it is a hostel, maybe one star due to lack of amenities. The room did not have lamps on the night stand, alarm clock or any clock, bathroom did not have water glasses, hand or face towels, hair dryer, or toiletries, no hangers in the closet. All we got was two towels and a sleeve of soap 1 by 1.5 inches. It did have good A/C unit, not too loud and TV. Kitchen was under repair so no breakfast in the morning. The advertised tour counter offered just inter-island transfer tickets. I know that all you need is a bad to rest between your tours, but I expected a real 3 star hotel as advertised.
Hotel is all stone, tile and wood, so very noisy. Every time somebody was closing their room door we hear it from any floor, and at 3am is quite annoying.

If on a budget this hotel/hostel could be perfect.

We stayed in 3 different hotels in Puerto Ayora during our week vacation, Hotel Espana, not very fancy but really dissent for price their charge: clean, staff speaks English. Only two small imperfections I noticed - steep stairs makes hard to drag heavy suitcase into third floor and look thru window that faces hallway instead outside

$50 on sale for a room that faced a wall on one side and a hallway on the other...and didn't have electricity (or water in the private bathroom) for 2 hours longer than the tiny sign stated behind the desk. The staff just kept saying 15 minutes, every time we asked, for 2 hours. And they made no accommodations for the inconvenience, not even coffee in the morning.

Good location,

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel España for four nights. It's location is great for wandering Puerto Ayora, and the room was very clean and well maintained, though with no elevator the walk up the stairs each night was a bit of a pain. The wifi is only available in the lounge area, and very slow, but it was fine for sending and receiving email. I was a bit worried as I saw some other reviews saying the hot water was very spotty, but after checking with the front desk to make sure all was in order, we had no problems.

We never sampled the breakfast, but it looked like standard fare - eggs, bread, ham, etc.

Overall for the price comparison to other hotels in the area I would recommend it.

Disappointing stay

Hotel Espana wasn't our cup of tea - mainly due to the lack of welcome and hospitality on arrival. The staff were more concerned with the movie they were watching than serving us! Consequently, we moved to another hotel the next night.

It's perfectly fine for a place to rest your head for the night, but if you're looking for something more, look elsewhere.

je ne peux pas évaluer car j'ai eu des problèmes de vols pour y arriver . Hôtel m'a facturé la nuité. Evidement je ne pouvais pas les avertir car mon vol est d'abord annulé et puis dérouter par 1 autre pays avant d'arriver le lendemain . En plus j'ai dû racheter 1 autre vol pour arriver au rendez-vous de ma croisière .

Al reservar el hotel con dos meses de anticipación me ofrecieron desayuno incluido, al llegar a registrarme me indicaron que mi reserva no incluía el desayuno, realice el reclamo a Expedia para que me solucionen el inconveniente pero lo que me dijeron es que me daban puntos en mi cuenta para un próximo viaje ya que no podían comunicarse con el hotel.
