I want to preface this by saying the staff is very kind, some of the nicest staff I’ve encountered anywhere.
Would I stay here again though? Most likely not.
The rooms are quite tinny, with ceilings like a corporate office building. Our bed had a few stains on the bed skirt, which we looked past because that’s not used when we sleep. When I went to go under the sheets, I noticed another stain. So, I called the front desk to ask for new bedding. The gentleman brought new bedding immediately and offered to make the bed, but we just undid and redid the bed ourselves. He let us know he would contact housekeeping to fully redo our bed the next day at 11am during check out time. We got back to our room late that next day at around 10pm, and our room was a we left it with no new bedding. But it was okay because we got new bedding the night before. But it would’ve been a kind gesture because of the stains on our bed.
The mattress isn’t bad in my opinion, we’ve slept well.
The AC does not work, nor does the heater. But they provide heaters and fans upon request.
The window doesn’t open, so no fresh air.
After one day, our room started to smell like cigarettes, which then led into our towels. I think that’s mostly just the crowd that stays here.
The sink is clogged and doesn’t drain properly, but the water gets super hot which is nice.
They do provide complimentary breakfast, but it was just some bagels and pastries and cereal. The milk tasted rotten.

The room was clean and the property was comfortable. The continental breakfast could've been better with hot food but overall it was good. The only thing was the TV options was poor. There was no movie channels, just very basic boring channels with little options other than ION TV. Also, having more carts for loading and unloading would've helped. We had to carry everything because we couldn't find a cart.

The thermostat was set at 52 when we arrived. Took 2.5 hours to heat up to 70 degrees. Temperatures outside were in the single digits. The atrium is freezing. No relaxing in there. The breakfast included 2 different cereals and couple types of muffins/bagels. Definitely not worth it. Wouldn’t recommend!

The booking states it is a queen bed but it is more the size of a twin and the room is small. We had to upgrade the room to get a bigger bed. The cost difference was pricy and the room had no heat. Needed to get a space heater from the front desk. The staff are very nice and helpful about this.

We read reviews and it was exactly what I expected. Clean and basic amenities. Good for a night. It was great to have Boneshakers attached to the hotel, they had great food!

We have stayed at the Stables Inn and Suites every time we have visited our daughter in Salem. We have enjoyed each stay. The staff have been pleasant and helpful and rooms have been clean and comfortable each time. The beds are alittle firmer than I typically like but comfortable non the less.

when I would leave the room in the morning the temp. for the hvac would be on 73 degrees at six pm when I returned it was still on 73 but the room temp. was 78 when I asked at the desk they offered me a fan and explained to me that they have a chiller, boiler system that can not keep up with the 90 degrees outside. The temp.would rise to 80 degrees by midnight before starting to decline and get back to 73 by 6 am. Absolutely miserable stay at the Stables. At 10 at night I would go take a nap in my car because it was so much cooler outside than inside.

The photos compared very poorly with the actual facilities. The desk staff and housekeeping staff were delightful and helpful yet the room was small (yet clean) terribly noisy (guests in the atrium from which my room was attached, and guests in adjacent rooms, echos in the hall, etc., were bizarrely loud. When considering “value” as what you get that’s important to you (an average night’s sleep, in an averagely quiet room) vs expense for that room…. my experience was it was poor value.

Our stay at this hotel was quite disappointing. The room had no windows, was very small, and felt dark and stuffy. The property itself is dated, and the lack of lighting and airflow made the room uncomfortable. Although we set the thermostat to 68°F, the room temperature never dropped below 76°F. While they did provide a fan, it wasn’t enough to make the room feel comfortable.

Housekeeping was also an issue. We stayed for three nights. While I had the Do Not Disturb sign up for the first two days, I removed it on the third — but the room still wasn’t cleaned. When I asked for fresh towels, the front desk staff member was rude, both in tone and expression.

Breakfast was another letdown. It consisted of just a few bagels and muffins — nothing fresh or substantial.

The only bright spot was Liz, who checked us in. She was kind, welcoming, and professional — a rare positive in an otherwise frustrating experience.

I would not return and would caution others to consider other options.

It is a pretty hotel, customer service was great, but the rooms have very poor air circulation. The AC was not turned on before we checked in, temp was 87 when we got our room. It took until the next morning for the temp to go down to 78. I didn’t sleep well, it was very hot and uncomfortable.

This is a quirky property. It is more like a 2 story enclosed Motel with no exterior windows. The window in each small room either faces an exterior hallway or the sort of nice interior atrium. The free breakfast is \"ok Carbs\". The location is just off the \"main\" street State St in a clearly economically depressed area. One semi-nice restaurant Ezio's. The only other hotel choice is a Holiday inn Express in typical Walmart strip mall area about 2 miles off the main road that lead to \"downtown Salem\".

Continental breakfast in the morning was very basic. Thank goodness for coffee! I loved the two restaurants connected to the hotel., both Boneshakers and Quaker State served great tasting food and cocktails. One of the best chocolate martinis I have had! The TV in my room only got 3 channels so had to go out to watch football games. Would have preferred to have a room with a window. I liked having a room on the ground floor, the upper level was closed. All in all a great room for a good price.

Service was good, cleanliness was great, room was a tiny bit on the smaller side and could have used a table in the room. Overall we were happy and will definitely stay at this one next year or look for one wherever we travel too. Hotels.com did not offer any special discounts like we thought. We thought by going through them we were getting a better deal only to find out from the hotel we paid the exact same price they charge. So we will not be using hotels.com again unfortunately.

Walkable, near everything

A great place to stay right in town walkable distance to many things-many restaurant and stores/shopping options, even a Firestone if you have car trouble. Everything was very clean and nice. Wish their was a pool. The bathroom was a bit outdated but very clean and accepable. The rooms have an old school key, not an updated room card to scan. Plenty of parking across the street and a nice little covered drive up if you need to unload your bags at the hotel doors before parking. The prices are extremely high, in my opinion. I'd feel more comfortable paying in the $60/night range. A major downside for me was the room could not get colder than 73-74 degrees because they have a boiler system. They did quickly provide me with a fan when asked. Extremely friendly staff. I usually sleep with my thermostat at 70 degrees so this was quite uncomfortablely hot for me at night. The mattress and pillows were comfy so that helped. I would stay again if the prices decreased and it's not mid summer time.

We were just in Salem for the night to visit our daughter. Salem Inn and Suites has great staff and is very clean. If you are looking for luxury this is not the place for you but if you are looking for a friendly, clean quiet, comfortable place to stay at a reasonable price you’ve found your place. We have stayed here before and will be returning.

The queen bed room was on the small side. The room and its bathroom were immaculate. The bed was comfortably hard and not lumpy. The a/c was on in the bedroom was comfortable at 69 -70. (Couldn't seem to lower it.) The water pressure in the shower was pretty good. And there was plentyvof super hot water. The main sitting room next to the lobby did not have the a/c on in the evening. But that's ok... I did not have any intention to sit there. I was told the a/c would be turned on in the morning. All the employees were nice and knowledgeable. We had dinner at Boneshakers that is connected to the inn. The food was great esp the fried green tomatoes and the drinks were yummy! The waiters were super friendly and efficient. This is a great stopover along one's planned journey.

I like that the front desk is manned all night (sorry for those who work it) I don't always sleep well and if I want to take a drive or just go to my car for something, I know I won't get locked out. There are many dining options within walking distance. Parking is close and convenient.

This is a wonderful find. The receptionist was pleasant yet professional. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable. The hotel has character which we found charming. There were two restaurants/bars right on the property that made dining a joy. We tried more formal sit down restaurant and loved the food!

We would highly recommended this hotel and definitely will stay again.

Room had no windows. The \"window\" looked out into the hallway. I thought I was on a ship. The room was small. I had a bigger room on a ship for 2 beds! We had to get another room because room's thermostat made the temp up to 87°! Why does Ohio have crappy hotel rooms?

This hotel is unique, clean, and the staff we interacted with were wonderful! The common areas and our room were all clean. The only thing about our stay that prevents me from giving this hotel 5 stars across the board is that the room was 77* with no way to cool it down. If you stay outside of summer, the AC in the room will not work. We didn’t sleep well due to how warm it was in our room. The upstairs is being renovated so maybe as they continue working on the building this will be something they fix, but if not, just know the rooms are pretty warm with no way, outside of leaving your door open to allow cool air from the hallway in, to cool your room down.

Great little place off the beaten path.

Our stay at the Stables was only for one night. We were in town to visit family. We were greeted by a friendly young man and given the keys (real metal keys) to our room and proceeded into a quaint atrium. The room was small but very clean and comfortable. The bed was a bit firmer than I like but I was still able to sleep well. Please be sure to read the instructions on the thermostat and follow them. We will stay here again.

Most hotels tend to have akward electric sockets placed at very low levels. The only one tends to be at normal height tends to be in the bathrooms. If I have to reach that far for a complaint, then everything else was fine with me.
