Would recommend to anyone and everyone. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the whole property was well maintained, beautiful, and so peaceful. The villa was clean and the view from the balcony was so serene. The highlight was the complementary breakfast. Just 2 minutes down the road is a restaurant called the Gecko, that provided our complementary breakfast through the hotel. The owner, Scott, and his colleague, Charlie, were so incredibly kind and attentive. The food was delicious, and they had different options every day. They have a dog sanctuary/rescue on their property, and we got to play with so many sweet animals. We even booked a cooking class with Scott, which was so incredible. La Fortuna waterfall is also a 30 second drive from the property, which is super convenient. I can’t recommend this place enough.

We arrived after hours and the guards took care of us no problem! We woke with the birds to head just down the hill for breakfast @ Scotts restaurant & dog rescue which was included with the room. Ricardo at the reception desk got us set up for the hanging bridges for an afternoon slot & we went to check out the waterfall for a few hours. This place is walking distance from La Fortuna steps entrance probably the best place to book in the whole city in our opinion! Thank you from hosting us.

Everything was great, we had a bungalow in the middle of the rainforest, we could hear all the nature around us, it was really awesome and beautiful!
And what really was the cherry on top of the cake was the restaurant the Geckos where the breakfast takes place. The food is amazing, the owners are so nice, and Scott, one of them, offers cooking classes there and also selles his paintings. It’s the cutest Little restaurant where there is a whole life and we can feel the love they put in everything they do.
Would go back to that place without a doubt.

Arrived in the afternoon and was upgraded from a room to a villa at no additional charge. Great location to relax and spend your nights in town, hammock was comfortable and internet was very fast. Could still do work on my laptop while in the rain forest, quite amazing. If I am to return to La Fortuna I will stay here again.

This place has a great location at what is the end of the La Fortuna waterfall road. There is easy access to lots of restaurants and activities. The staff is great and very responsive. Breakfast is included, and was very good. However, breakfast is not on-site. It is walkable, but steeply downhill. The drive is short. The service at breakfast was welcoming and friendly. The property appears to be undergoing significant renovation, and will surely be lovely when complete. We stayed in villas 11 and 12 as two couples. Both are walled with windows. 11 has minimal outdoor space, while 12 had none. There were no screens on any window or door in the villas, but bugs were generally not a problem. The shower in number 11 was powerful and had good hot water. The pool that you may see in the pictures is the private pool of one of the other villas.
There was no construction noise or hassle while we were there.
This was quiet and lovely place to stay on the edge of town.

Amazing place to stay. Next time we are in Costa Rica we will definitely be staying here. It was our 10 year anniversary, not only did they do an amazing job decorating our room they even upgraded our villa. Ricardo especially stood out everyday he helped us weather it was food recommendations and tours. Very clean and comfortable and just a beautiful location with wild life everywhere. We were able to see monkeys right outside our balcony. 100% recommended

We had the most amazing and magical stay at Arenal Waterfall Lodge and would recommend this location to anyone and everyone! Even before arriving, the hotel was great at communicating with us and answering any questions and concerns we had. The property is private and quiet while still providing amazing access to both nature. Our first morning we were woken up by the sound of howler monkeys directly outside our villa. The rooms were very clean and well stocked with the necessary amenities, and staff were happy to provide additional towels as needed. The breakfast is provided by a local restaurant and was cooked fresh every morning - so delicious! A special thank you to Riccardo who took great care of us and answered any questions we had. We hope to stay here again soon.

Nice bamboo 2 bedroom 2 bathroom cabin nestled in a natural setting. Could hear howler monkeys in the trees. The staff very friendly and accommodating. The property is under a renovation project so hopefully will be better in the future. Our cabin was very dark, poorly lit, and needs many upgrades. No tv in the cabin. It is very damp. The shower room lacks shelves or hooks for towels. The sink in the toilet room (separate from the shower) has a cabinet over it with a poorly placed mirror: hard to use it for shaving or applying makeup. And the lighting is so poor. It has a nice, well-stocked kitchen area. They offered us free breakfast at a Nearby restaurant and free entry to the mistico hanging bridges which was really nice. Overall it was a great value.

The entire place was spotless, floors gleaming. The bed sheets were crisp and all the surrounding windows created an amazing and very private view. Great wifi and amazing hot showers.

The breakfasts at Geckos were hearty and delicious, such a warm and welcoming space and Charlie's homemade jam, juices, hot sauce, and mojitos were the best! We loved it so much we booked a cooking class with Scott Alan. It was so much fun and is definitely one of the highlights of our time here in Costa Rica.

The location was good to, we walked to the Fortuna Waterfall and we were close to coffee/ chocolate tours, and the free passes to the hanging bridges was such a great added value.

The only thing that could be better is the cookware, but then there's so many great places to eat out at!

Valeria checked us in. She's amazing. Room is clean and has a beautiful view. We had a minor issue with no water in our lodge but the admins got to work on it right away. Very quiet, at the base of the volcano and a 12 minute walk from the La Fortuna waterfall. Kind of has a log cabin feel with beautiful views. We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite. Large rooms, individual bathrooms on each side and a mini kitchen (fridge, microwave, coffee maker). Great for families. We'd stay again

This beautiful property is located just a couple minutes from the La Fortuna Waterfall via a private driveway. It is nestled in the gorgeous lush mountainside and it is so so quiet and DARK. Not to worry - there is a security staff on site 24 hours a day. We checked in late well after dark. Security led us via motorbike to our villa which had amazing views

The staff were very friendly, the bungalow felt like you are in the rainforest- great ambiance. The reason for the lower score, this was a special occasion and we were looking for something different from hotels. We were notified that the pool and restaurant were closed for renovations a day prior to our departure making it too late to cancel or rebook. The room although interesting was in need of renovations the ceiling looked like it was started to be painted but was not finished. There was a stove and kitchenet in the the bungalow but it was disconnected - dissapointing as we bought groceries to find out we could not use it. I think once the renovations are complete this will be a nice place to stay. Im very dissapointed that they were not honest about ongoing renovations. Also the waterfall although close to the property is not part of the property and will cost you $20us per person. Another misleading feature.

My girlfriend and I got in late to Arenal Waterfall Lodge, they were more than accommodating to get us into our room. The room itself was very clean, and spacious. It felt like a secluded cabin in the woods but we were in the jungle! When we asked the front desk for recommendations for dinner they were more than happy to give us one! When we asked them to book our adventure to mystico hanging bridges, they made sure I got the email and confirmation in order for us to attend! (Highly recommend). The breakfast down the road at Gecko’s was extremely good! The atmosphere there was more than accommodating, they also run a dog shelter and we love dogs, so win win in our book! Scott and Charlie at gecko’s were beyond friendly and made us feel like we were at home we looked forward to breakfast and chatting with them every morning. I will most definitely be staying at the lodge again, and I look forward to it. If you’re on the fence about it do it, you will not regret it! Pura Vida, and safe travels!

The staff was very friendly and helpful, but the room wasn't very cozy at all. The sheets and blankets are very thin and the room always had a chill to it even when the ac unit was adjusted. There are no rugs on the floor. The windows have curtains, but there are no blinds or curtains on the glass door so others can see right into the room (we put up a sheet). And unfortunately, the pool was out of order so we weren't able to use it. Overall it was a decent stay, but I probably wouldn't go back.

It appears the resort is going through a lot of upgrading. During our stay we didn’t have water for 1/2 a day with advance warning. Internet barely worked unless we stood in one corner of the house. Mentioned the issue but nothing was done. Breakfast was provided by a nearby restaurant but still had to load up the car with our kids 5&2 year olds as it could be walked by adults but too far and hilly for them. Unit 13 where we stayed along with another unit are not in the gated secure portion of the resort. We didn’t feel threatened but just strange as it could have easily been addressed by relocating the gate 90 degrees at an intersection. One of the showers was I. Rough shape but the other was good. Our friends stayed in the largest unit, #14 which was much nicer.

I have very mixed feelings about this place. The good: the upgraded us to a lodge for free (we booked a standard room) because it was low season. The lodge was a highlight and my son had such a great time choosing between sleeping in the loft inside or the exterior loft (you reach it through outdoor stairs and it has a private entrance). It was a bit far from town, but I actually loved that because it was so beautiful and quiet and we just sat on the deck enjoying a jungle rainstorm. Also, they've recently hired a place called the Geckos to do their breakfasts and it was THE BEST food we had in Costa Rica. So so good. Also, we got a free visit to Misitico Hanging Bridges as a peace offering because they're doing construction right now and it was a bit noisy. I was happy with the trade!

The downsides: the cleanliness was questionable. The light switch in the bathroom and the legs on the bathroom vanity were coated with grime and my pillow smelled like sweat. Gag. Also, they didn't refill the soap in one of the bathrooms - good thing we had two.
The lodge bathrooms were so nice though. Huge windows and you could shower with them open because no one was nearby - just the jungle.
Lastly, I can't decide if this is a con or a pro... a howler monkey lives nearby and kept jumping on the metal roof and dropping stuff on the roof starting at about 4:45am each morning. It was amusing, but also made it a bit hard to sleep.

The private villa specifically, is an absolute gem

This is an ideal spot for anyone low maintenance, and can get the private villa, on sale. We stayed in villa 14 which was excellent, but it's definitely not modern or 'sealed' off from nature. There are broken curtain rods, missing pool and bathroom tiles here and there, ants, spiders and numerous other native bugs, but nothing that detracted from the wonderful experiences our family had here. The showers and water, heat were great. The private pool was ideal as the hotel pool is by the main office, and the cabins are a rocky, steep walk away. The included breakfast is also off premises, so you will need to drive there every morning if you're interested. The road in and off premises is also a bit tricky to navigate if there's 2way traffic as it's very narrow.

Beautiful property. Is it a 5 star resort no but for the area and country it was. It provided my daughter and I a wonderful place to stay, feel safe, relax, and enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica.

There was maintenance going on but nothing that dampened our experience. They are expanding and thats great. All the workers were friendly and ecen when they were doing landsacaping they never came to our lodge when we were home so there was no feeling of our privacy being invaded.

The staff was friendly and helped with suggestions of places to go. They provided us with everything we needed to enjoy our trip.

They are working on renewing the property. Accessibility is not for adults with no willingness for exercise. Accessing the cabins is super hard. No restaurant available and the one offer for the hotel is no a good clean condition it’s a mix of a restaurant and dogs shelter. The offer to hike at Mistico is excellent but do not go to the restaurant at Mistico because the service is terrible. Over all is ok if you are willing to deal with all

Arenal lodge was a complete dream come true, my mother and I stayed in the Tucán lodge, she travelled from Italy to meet up with me, and felt completely relaxed once reached arenal lodge. The lodge was clean and spacious, it was very comfortable and beautiful. We were immersed in the forest and had a hammock on the mosquito safe terrace. It was beyond beautiful. We also had breakfast included and a hike that was beautiful. That hike we saw lots of Congo monkeys and a yellow snake.

Stay away if you like comfort, A/C, H20, and WiFi.

We stayed 3 nights. 2 nights we did not have WiFi, one night we did not have power (no a/c and no windows to open for air flow), and one night we did not have any water (and we really needed showers after day excursions, let alone use the toilet). The bed was not comfortable...we sunk toward the middle. It was not a good experience...we do not recommend.

Needs Maintenance and an Urgent Upgrade

The resort has great potential but is in clear need of maintenance and an urgent upgrade. Unfortunately, the pictures shown online do not reflect the actual condition of the property. We encountered a serious issue with insects—our villa was invaded by beetles, which truly frightened my daughter.

On a positive note, the staff at the reception were absolutely lovely. Upon our arrival, they upgraded us to a larger villa without us even asking, which was a thoughtful gesture. The two-bedroom villa we stayed in is indeed spacious, but it would benefit greatly from better insulation and improved protection from the elements and exterior pests.

In its current state, I would not recommend it, but with proper care and renovations, this place could become a gem

Pros: Very spacious, friendly staff, unbeatable views, good local typical breakfast.
Cons: No weather stripping on doors so LOTS of bugs get it. Had to ask the staff the clean off the spider webs on the chandeliers. Outdated and worn furniture.

If you can handle a very rustic feel and don't mind fighting bugs that are drawn by lights, then this place is great. The views are fantastic. Not close to town and you must have an AWD car to get around.

WOW, over and beyond what we expected!!! All separate houses spread apart. Other than birds, total silence. Had a Toucan right outside our window. Location maybe .025 mi from LaFortuna waterfall. HIGHLY recommend

This property is just up the hill from the Fortuna Waterfall! We were able to walk down and back up. It is a steep hill if you are unable to walk hills it would be better to drive. We stayed in villa 17 which is the furthest away villa! It’s huge and gorgeous! Has a great view from both balconies! It is a steep walk up and down to get to the pool and reception desk. If you are older I would suggest a closer villa. We enjoyed the walk though! They are remodeling right now so we had to eat breakfast (which was included) at a restaurant down the hill called Geckos! Definitely worth going to! It was soooo good and it’s a dog rescue!!

We had a wonderful time at our little bungalow. It was a two bedroom with a kitchen and our own private pool. We were in the jungle so we had a lot of activity at night, but it was fun and well worth it.

We stayed in Tree House Villa #17 Toucan. It was so relaxing and roomy, surrounded by the sights and sounds of Costa Rican nature. We were very comfortable and pleased with our accommodations. It could use a few little touch-ups, nothing to complain about.
It was great to have a stove, which was used for meals.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Checking in and out was easy.
Maintenance crews were always busy cleaning.
The included breakfast was good. The only downfall was having to leave the property for breakfast. That being said, the restaurant was managed by very helpful and friendly people, just like the property itself. It would be so nice to have a restaurant on site though.

This was an amazing slice of beauty and paradise!!! We ended up staying here in one of the Villa's after our previous accommodations didn't work out. The only thing I will warn people about is if you choose to stay in one of the Villa's prepare to do stairs (a lot of stairs!) However, even with this the stay was peaceful, wonderful and the views were breathtaking. The best part was that each Villa has its own Wi-Fi so that you aren't fighting for Wi-Fi speeds! This is also somewhere that is pretty close to some amazing dining options!

Place was not the same as it show on the internet. Sheets were dirty and shower knob couldn’t turn off completely. I originally booked for 4 nights, I left after the first night. I asked if I can get a refund for my remaining days and was told no. I explained to front desk how I wasn’t comfortable staying there, he acted like he understood but clearly not. I would not recommend this place to nobody!!

Our time at Arenal Waterfall Lodge was an unexpected delight. The cabin we booked was nicer than we expected - tucked away in the jungle with a screened balcony complete with hammock and loads of windows to enjoy the outdoor view. It also had a kitchen; we didn't need it but the fridge and full size coffee maker were appreciated.

A nice breakfast was included in the rate as well as access to the 2 1/2 hour trail. We came to LaFortuna to enjoy the outdoors and how convenient to have a trail head for a good hike right on property!

Getting to the cabins requires a drive down the hill on what we have come to expect as typical Costa Rican roads - in need of repair but passable.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be recommending it to our friends and family for their next visit to LaFortuna.

Arenal Waterfall Lodge was great. Older hotel but very clean. The staff at the hotel were all super friendly and accommodating. The grounds around the pool area were well kept and it was very relaxing to sit and listen to the birds.
Breakfast was very nice and the staff were also very kind. It was delightful to meet so many nice people at this hotel. They had a super sweet dog on property that followed us on some trails and met us for breakfast. Really cool. I will definitely stay here again. Very peaceful property!! Pura Vida!!

Pics online are minimum 10 years old. Room sizes are not accurate either. All rooms are way smaller than advertised. We stayed in a one bedroom suite that was supposed to be 1000 square feet. Barely 400. Think state park cabin. Not suite. It was very private and other that typical tropics rust in stuff the room worked. The whole resort is very run down though

The hotel is conveniently located near La Fortuna Waterfall, making it a great choice if you want to stay close to this popular attraction.
Breakfast is decent, but don’t expect a large variety — you may need to pay extra for additional items like eggs.
If you enjoy being surrounded by nature, this is a wonderful place to explore; however, if that’s not your preference, you might want to consider other options.
We stayed in a room for three people but were only provided with two towels, and the staff was noticeably unfriendly upon our late arrival.
There was no bottled water, coffee, or other basic amenities in the room, and the toiletries (shampoo, soap, etc.) had an unpleasant smell.
Additionally, the property has high humidity levels, so keep that in mind when planning your stay.

We stayed in the private villa, which is gorgeous and is very clean, spacious, and comfortable. But, by virtue of coming to this part of CR, you’re in the rainforest and the house has glass doors and a cabin feel so there are and will be largely harmless creatures finding there way in. It was fine for us—2 families with a total of 4 kids—but if you’re squeamish and don’t like a little nature inside, stay somewhere else! Otherwise, this place was amazing and is right off the El Chato hike (which is tough but incredibly rewarding).

The staf was very friendly and helpful.
The villa we stayed in was a climb, which I was not expecting.
We are great full that we did not get one that was higher. It appeared that would have required the assistance of a mountain goat. Lol
Seriously, it would have been too difficult fir us to access.
The room was roomy and open. It is in need of cleaning and paint.
The deck is small with two chairs, and not room enough to move them for a better view or to sit together.
The doors require a key on both sides. So, leave the key in the lock in your room, incase of an emergency and won't need to be searching for the key to get out.
