It was an incredible experience. The castle was exactly as pictured. So dramatic and so much history. This is a must do. It’s only an hour and a half outside of Barcelona and the rental car process was super easy. But you can also take a train.

Great, large room, beautiful location, nice service overall, although sometimes we needed to ask a few times for things or got mixed answers. Great food.
Lacked some amenities that were advertised.
Not suitable for people with low mobility, due to the hardship getting there, but it is still relatively possible.
Would definitely recommend, however.

Entire staff friendly and accommodating, except for the head waiter who was rude and arrogant like he was the lord of the castle or something. Very off-putting and bade us avoid the restaurant after that.

Fantastic experience to stay at an 1100 year old castle.
Parking was easy and free onsite. Very friendly staff, especially Pol and Inma. The only issue was the Wifi. Sometimes the Wifi was so weak, my phone could not send texts or operate in wifi calling mode. The guided tour of the castle with Monica is highly recommended to understand the history behind the castle.

A lovely hotel in a castle filled with history. Beautiful views from the top. Friendly staff and very well kept.
We hadn't got a car but you definitely need one. Our friends picked us up daily. No taxis or buses.
On a personal note the bed was too hard and it hurt my hip bone to lay on either side, so I didn't sleep well.

We had a most enjoyable experience at the Parador de Cardona, perched high up in a beautiful location. All the staff, reception, bar and restaurant, were very helpful and professional. Our room at the top of the castle was well-furnished with a large, comfortable four-poster bed and decent bathroom, both with wonderful views. The AC worked very well. Our dinner in the restaurant was delicious and the service perfectly paced, not hurried. As it’s half-way between homes in Spain and France, we very much look forward to our next visit. BTW, if you’re anticipating a comfortable hotel in an 11th century castle, it’s exactly that and I suggest you ignore low-star ratings mentioning lack of “coffee stations” and “pools”, it’s not a motel in MAGA-land, thank goodness!

The castle was absolutely stunning and the countryside was so beautiful. The accomodations on the other hand were pretty meh.

The carpets throughout the hotel were disgusting. There was no AC. The sheets were made of cardboard.

Breakfast was great and the staff were super nice. So my recommendation? Come here on a day trip but don't stay the night.

We loved our stay in this beautiful castle hotel. The public areas are amazing and the views very lovely. We paid a cheaper rate so the bedroom was simpler than in some of the photos but very comfortable. We loved the dining room and breakfast was fantastic. you need to have a car to travel around as there is not much in the local town though some nice shops and cafes.

The paradore is set in a beautiful castle. The courtyard, public rooms and dining room are stunning. Bedroom more simple with basic wooden furniture with nice bathroom and shower. Worth paying to look round the old church on site and take in the views from the maiden's tower. Breakfast is fantastic buffet.

Amazing place that you can see from far on your approach to it. Located on very top of big hill that tops all soundings. Very specious and nice rooms. Great restaurant (quite expensive but there are other options to eat in near town of Cardona). It is like spending a night in fairytale story. There is free parking in castle and on weekends you can expect a lot of visitors so plan accordingly.

A castle definitely worth staying at.

The parador was really a beautiful place with a lot of charm and great views of the surrounding area. The castle had an interesting history and was well placed on top of the hill to defend it itself when under siege.

The room was large with a large 4 poste bed and a good sized bathroom.

The service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant was was a huge hall with large arches giving great atmosphere.

The food was of very good quality and we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner.

We were on a road trip and had stayed at a number of hotels but this one was clearly the best and in fact the cheapest. It was very good value for money.

Classic and quality castle retreat

This is a classic historic castle and perfect if you want to stay somewhere with real atmosphere. It’s been beautifully restored and a modern hotel is well hidden behind the stone walls. The reception and waiting staff are very professional and attentive.
Just check restaurant opening hours, we stayed off season and they were only open for breakfast and lunch.

This was an incredible parador surrounded by spectacular views and fascinating history. Dining at the parador was really special - excellent breakfast and dinner. Service was excellent and the staff were really friendly. My only complaint would be that the beds are really very hard. If it's possible to add a topper to the mattress to make them more comfortable that would greatly improve the experience.

Staying at el Parador de Cardona was an incredible experience! It is fully authentic and tremendously rich in the history and culture of Spain and Cataluña. Everything — the amenities, the service, the food, the views — were amazing. The staff was exceptionally professional and helpful. Our two-night stay was just what we needed to rest up from the flight from the US and to gear up for the more bustling environment of Barcelona. Touring the salt mine and just walking around the town of Cardona to soak up the atmosphere were also very enjoyable. Cardona and this parador are definitely worth the short drive from Barcelona!

Even dropping luggage at lobby is a chore. Limited drive up to Reception doors. Very narrow driveway NEEDING 3 point turn to even proceed up further to 6 parking spots if any ever available. VERY HARD BEDS. Food was good but terribly small portions for the price. Least favorite Parador we ever stayed in and we have stayed in many.

Amazing Magical Parador Stay

Service was impeccable and our room had a fabulous view of the salt mine and town! We could walk into town easily and the castle was also fascinating to explore. The parking was steep and tight, but free (park in front of the parador doors to drop off your luggage then park either above or below in the lots provided). We would definitely stay at this ancient, magical parador again! Staff were terrific and very kind!

The property was beautiful and well-maintained. It was amazing to be able to stay in a castle. The location is also great for exploring Cardona (though, if walking, it is a lot of up and down hill!). Staff were very helpful and kind. The only complaint was that there was no hot water kettle (or any way to make coffee) in the room.

Lovely castle with a feel of being brought back in time. Room was lovely. My only 👎 was the waiting staff during dinner and breakfast. Not a smile or effort to ensure we were satisfied. When asking for a recommendation for a wine to go with our dinner we felt we were bothering the staff. And when mentioned the bacon at breakfast was not to my liking (it was barely cooked and I had asked for it crispy) he just put it down and walked away. So rude. Check-in staff where lovely though.

The serving staff in cafe and breakfast restaurant were unable to communicate in English. Not enough signage to give indication or instruction on ordering breakfast on menue. Continental buffet spread is lack of fresh look and breakfast ordering option on menu are also underwhelmed. Although view is amazing from room but appalling service kind of kill the enjoyments. No swimming facility is not ideal for any body visiting in summer, we stayed 3 nights in July and could not find enough to do in area and with accommodation being not self contained, apart from sleep and enjoy the aircon and rest our body and soul , there is not much we could have done differently.

Our stay at Cardona was good. Johnathon in the kitchen/bar was the best! Very attentive and friendly. The hotel was very nice & authentic. My only negative was gross, dirty throw rugs all over the castle. It would be better to get rid of these all together and leave bare tile and avoid the negative image. Would love to have seen more of the castle, but a lot of the rooms are locked. Dining options were good, but limited both time & options. All in all, would recommend.

Wow! We stayed in this beautiful castle, a room that was used by the Lords of Cardona. The views were incredible. The service and overall cleanliness were on point and everyone was very helpful. The health/spa area was not open due to COVID regulations and I would have liked to been able to use that. Maybe next time. Overall, we are still pinching ourselves about Parador de Cardona! :)

I was so looking forward to staying at a parador and was not dissatisfied with the stunning exterior and interior of this unusual hotel.
The check in staff were friendly and informative.
The room was immaculate and the bathroom luxurious with eco friendly large self serve toiletries.
The only fault I could find was that the beds were so hard, as a side sleeper my hip hurt and I tossed and turned during the night.
The room was very quiet except for church bells.

The property and surroundings are nice. The restaurant is horrible. DO NOT EAT THERE. My wife and I had a terrible food poisoning after having dinner there and it out is out of commission for 2 days of our trip to Spain. We told the manager at the front desk about the food poisoning and instead of being understanding she basically accused us of lying based on the fact that nobody else complained about the restaurant.

Location location location! We were initially given room 707. It smelled like a sewer in the morning and they said they would take care of it. Also the room never got below 78.5 degrees. And the only view was a courtyard. Well the smell was gone by the afternoon so we said ok. The next morning the sewer smell was back. And the noise in the courtyard was till long after 12 and started up again before 6. They moved us for our final night and it was wonderful. Room 704 is great! This parador is worth seeing and staying if you can get a good room. The history and location are fabulous. The staff is great and the breakfast was top notch.

The Parador itself is a gorgeous medieval castle, but the renovation work is not if the quality unfortunately. The staff was very nice. The restaurant food is good, but the best remains the breakfast buffet! The room and the bathroom were clean. The mattresses were on the very tough side. It rained the first day of our stay. We didn't visit the Salt museum as it was only opening at 11:30am as we had to hit the road. Last point : parking next to the entrance is scarced and very tight and extremely hilly. We were very happy to have a small automatic car.

An incredible experience

The situation of the Paradore gives it a beautiful 360 degree vista, especially if you go up the tower. The Paradore itself is spectacular.The staff are very helpful and friendly, the rooms are a good size and spotlessly clean. The food in the restaurant was very good and the breakfast selection the following morning was wide ranging to say the least. We will certainly return.

A very special visit. Room, food, drink, service were everything we expected from staying at a Castle. The views are unbelievable. After several days in Barcelona, this was a great change of pace. We took a day trip to Museo-Theatre Dali in Figueres and topped off our Barcelona vacation week with a trip to the top of stunning Montserrat.

Paradors are always worth a visit.

As with most Paradors, it is a converted historic building—in this case a castle. It is on the top of a hill so there are good views all around. It is a rather steep walk from the parking area to the reception. The restaurant is lovely; the food not quite matching the decor. The front desk staff were efficient but reserved.

Climbing up the steep road to the castle, I was in awe of the aspect at every turn. Upon arrival, I was certain the aristocracy who once lived in the castle would surround us with delights. Hotel reception staff could be more informative on hotel environment and actually show guests the major areas of hotel facilities including to your guest room. We were taken across the court yard to guest entry door and left to work our own way in the castle environment which was not set out like any normal hotel being a unique castle experience. Dinner and breakfast in the formal dining room was another must do experience. Both meals were beautifully presented with outstanding sliver service for dinner. Waiter staff attentive and made the experience outstanding in the beautiful environment.

We booked a standard double room and were offered a suite - larger and with a picture window - but overlooking the salt mine area. We turned it down for the smaller standard room with a small window (it is a castle after all) with the magnificent view on the other side. This room was perfectly adequate and very comfortable. Meals with half board were very good but compared with a previous stay at Parador Sos del Rey Catolico service was slow and the breakfast choice slightly limited. Wifi in the room was poor. But the overall castle experience was unbeatable.

When driving , it is not obvious you can drive right up to the front entrance to unload luggage and then park either uphill ( limited parking ) or downhill . At check in we were initially given a room with no view , then a room with warm ( but not hot ) water , and finally a very nice room with a view on the 6th floor . The reception and main dining area are on the 4th floor , and there is a nice cafeteria on the 6th floor ( albeit with limited food choices in the afternoon ) . The hotel itself is an absolutely amazing spectacle , taking the child in all of us back to the middle ages . Breakfast was wonderful .

The Parador was very good but meal service in Cardona and the Parador lacks consideration for early suppers; between 6pm and 8pm.

Live like a medieval knight!

Staying at a Parador is a vacation in itself! And this one is a gem. Wish my grandkids could have been with us to run around the castle

Oh What a (K) night!

What's not to love..a night in a real Castle.!
Rustic , yet comfortable with all the amenities .
Dinner in the main restaurant was also a highlight .
Our room was beautiful with a window that opened to a view of the town of Cardona!

Spectacular!!
