It should have been so much better. A hotel in an historic building with midetn facilities.The check in staff were friendly, especially the young man who dealt with us, but the process took too long. When we went to the bar, what we assumed to be the head barman (the older person) was incredibly surly. The waiting staff in the restaurant had a couldn't care less attitude, especially the waitress who attended us. The additional charges on thecrestaurant menu were illogical and petty. We assume the poor, unprofessional attitude of the staff stems from the topmanagement

Our experience eating in the bar was poor - staff made mistakes and the food - a very small pizza - was cold and soggy. Receptionist who checked us in was great - check out was unfriendly and disinterested.

Despite the ongoing external renovations at the Parador, the interior remains pristine and welcoming, providing a sense of security during your stay—an outstanding feature of Spanish heritage.

The views are breathtaking. However, the surrounding neighbourhood of the Parador now appears unsafe, primarily due to a significant presence of male immigrants, both legal and undocumented. Those who seem to be outside this group are typically mothers with three to five children of some sort Africa/Central Asia background.

The local people from Tortosa are very friendly and appear to be very distressed/on edge by the large number of invaders.

Talking with locals and law enforcement advised that we should refrain from walking outside the Parador, (old town/historic area), especially at night/in the dark and strongly advised to take a taxi to return to the Parador for safety reasons.

Unfortunately, the Spanish authorities have failed to address the issue of these illegal residents who have turned the nearby historic districts, rich with churches and other notable buildings, into makeshift illegal homes.

I will not return for this reason. Feels very unsafe, and it is quite intimidating.

Beautiful building with a tremendous view. The staff were all helpful .we had a room on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the front garden and town .unfortunately the people in the room above spent a lot of time moving furniture so it was quite noisy! As it was very hot we were disappointed that we had not been told when booking that the swimming pool was not in use.

What we did not like was their inflexibility in moving our booking forward by one day.
I appreciate the booking conditions I agreed to stipulated no cancellation.
But their “absolutely not” attitude, when we wished to still stay there, did not bode well.
So we paid full price again to stay one day earlier.
No coffee/tea facilities for pre breakfast coffee.
No complimentary water.
Mega construction work going on in the grounds.

Only positive was the food enjoyed in the bar was excellent.
Would we stay there again? Absolutely not.

This is hotel is in a rebuilt castle high above the town of Tortosa, with incredible vistas, but its a short walk to the town center. Rooms have a balcony and a comfortable bed. The staff is friendly and professional. I liked its bar and restaurant, which offers many regional food and drink specialties. I highly recommend the whole package.

Neat to sleep in a castle but not well maintained

Staying in a castle is pretty neat. Overall, it was comfortable. We enjoyed the balcony. However, the pool was locked and closed and the water was clearly very dirty. Not sure if it was closed for the season or not. We felt the hotel and building was struggling to keep up with maintenance.

We had no wifi available in the room. It was available in the hallway if we sat at the end of the hallway in the chairs. We did ask about this several times but it never worked.

The reception was was a warm welcome, and the room delightful (although no view). Everything was spotlessly clean and the bedding and linen spotless and of the highest quality. The evening food was delicious but beware, the restaurant does not open until 8:00pm. Breakfast was good and all staff were very friendly. Would definitely stay again.

The exterior of the building is impressive, the drive up a bit scary but ok if you don’t meet another car. A traffic light system would work here.
The inside was dark and a bit on the cold and gloomy side but it was very cold outside So maybe that was the reason.
The rooms were very clean but the furniture heavy and uncomfortable and noisy when moved.
There is very little soundproofing between rooms so you here conversations and unhappy children. We also found the beds too firm for us but that’s a personal preference. Our balcony never got the sun but the other wing of the paradore did so maybe ask for those rooms.
The food was ok but nothing more. There seems to be a distinct lack of vegetables but don’t know if that is a Spanish thing.
The paradore overlooks the town and if you are fit then walking up and down is ok. Anyone with health problems would need to take the car.
Tere who did the housekeeping of our room was a delight and made our visit. She went off to get me cups of camomile tea when I was ill. The lack of tea and coffee facilities in the room was a problem.
Patricia in the bar and breakfast room was friendly and helpful too.

Not as grand as expected...

We assumed we'd be staying in a castle, but the actual hotel was built in the 70s. Nice views, as it's on a hill, overlooking Tortosa. The reception staff was friendly, the overall look is a bit dated and the pool could have done with an update and some more cleaning too. We used a reward night for our stay, not sure if that influenced the room we got, but they put us opposite of something that was maybe a GP practise or vaccination center, because it had queues of people sitting and chatting loudly outside our room from early in the morning. The hotel was not busy, so I am sure they could have given us another room. The food in both the restaurant and the cafe were good.

Lovely hotel, but the hill climb to get back in from town is a hike. Also, it would be really good if there was some implementation of the no smoking policy. People were openly smoking on thier balconies which means you can't sit outside or have the doors open, if you don't like smoking.
The green credentials could be improved, there was no obvious place to recycle anything (plastic, paper, aluminium). Sometimes you don't want to take it to your room.
It was hot when we were there, not a bid thing, but after the claimb it would have been great of the air conditioning was colder. I suspect it was installed some time ago and is just not up to the demand. Overall, we had a good stay here and we loved Tortosa - great food and eay to get around.

The building, just as you would expect a historic parador to be, amazing. Rooms well a bit basic, but clean and reasonably comfortable.
The meal in the restaurant was very good.
Attention to detail throughout the parador would earn it more points. Also please include coffee and tea making facilities in the room, even if you charge and extra few euros a night, this is a must for all hotels in 2018.

Still not cooling and front desk changed room quickly. Enjoyed quiet time at pool, walking around parador to see views. Drinks in bar. Excellent meals and service. Just what we needed before heading to hustle/bustle of Barcelona.

The Tortosa Parador was built in 1928 from the remains of a fortress. Its an elegant hotel overlooking the old city and the astonishing cathedral. The city is near beautiful mountain range parks. Tourism is light and the sights including the lovely \"Royal College\" are well marked.

Hotel was great but directions around Tortossa were difficult. Neighborhood around hotel was not nice. Though that wasnt the hotel's fault. At dinner they added 10% tip onto the bill. I probably would have given a bit more even, but I don't like someone choosing for me!

Room With a View

We were delighted to find a Parador hotel enroute from Marbella to Barcelona. Lovely renovated 10th century castle on a hill with spectacular views all around. Wooden shutters opened up to a nice balcony and we would have liked to leave the doors open all night but the guest next door was a smoker and we are not. Rooms are non-smoking but apparently balconies are not. There are five or six steps to contend with in getting your luggage up to the lifts. Quite a few stone steps up to the huge pool area. Dinner in the beautiful dining room upstairs was disappointing. The salad of melon and avocado was a delicious and interesting starter. We both ordered beef entrecotte medium. Mine was thick but very rare. My husband's was much thinner but closer to medium so we switched plates rather than send them back. Sides were sparse but tasty. Three choices for dessert were uninspired: flan, brownie or bowl of fruit. Not good value for the set price of 29€ each. But the lovely Rioja 18€ helped ease the pain. Gratuity is automatically added to the bill. There is a nice patio bar area where we enjoyed drinks after our sightseeing in the lower city. The climb back up the steep hill is not too bad if you pace yourself and take it slowly. Breakfast buffet was not great; hot dishes were not even close to being hot and there was no self-serve coffee. When we did get coffee from the kitchen it wasn't hot either. Top marks for location and comfort, low marks on dining options.

The hotel itself is just OK. The grounds and the surrounding areas are impressives. This hotel and the surrounding area is not meant for people with mobility problems. The room was standard and nothing special. The beds are hard and uncomfortable. The room was clean and tidy but not luxurious at all. Dinner was expensive and nothing special. Soup was tastless and we had to doctor it up with tobasco and salt. Had dinner late but still had to hear children crying and fussing throughout our entire meal. Was expecting more but it was just OK.

Great place to stay

The Parador is situated on a hilltop overlooking the town. If you have a heavy bag take a cab up there :) Going down is no problem at all and the parador is in walking distance to the bus station. The room was fresh, clean and new-old. Bathroom big and very clean. Dinner in restaurant was good with local specialities on the menu. The duck with orange sauce was very good. Service in both restaurant and the reception was very good! Swimming pool was cool and with a towel service. Nice for an afternoon swim. Overall a good stay in a sleepy town :)

Lovely building, beautiful views

We enjoyed our overnight stay. The room was a little small, but well fitted out. Comfortable beds, lovely bathroom, balcony with comfortable seating and lovely views of the river and downtown. The bar was inviting for an afternoon meal, and the breakfast room was delightful. The hotel is walking distance to downtown, but the hotel itself seems to be the biggest attraction in the town.

Sehr schön gelegenes Hotel mit toller Aussicht. Wir haben zuerst ein großes Zimmer ohne Balkon zugewiesen bekommen, welches wir auf Rückfrage gegen ein etwas kleineres Zimmer mit Balkon tauschen konnten. Man merkt dem Hotel leider in einigen Bereichen an, dass es etwas in die Jahre gekommen ist. Frühstück war sehr gut.

Fatal, mis hijos llegaban a las 4 de la mañana, avisé 2 veces pero me dijeron que no había ningún problema, pero cuando llegaron nadie les abría ni contestaban al teléfono, desesperados nos llamaron a la habitación, nerviosos todos sin dormir y cuando por fin les abren media para hacer checqiing.

Desesperados.

Avisé 2 veces de que mi hijo llegaba sobre las 4 de la madrugada, me dijeron que no había ningún problema, pero cuando llegaron no les abrían la puerta ni contestaban al teléfono , desesperados nos llamaron a nuestra habitación, todos nerviosos , sin dormir y cuando por fin les abrieron media hora para hacer el checquing, increíble.
