Wonderful location right on beach with awesome views of Table Mountain, Robben Island, and the Atlantic Ocean - get a seaside view room if possible. Rooms were clean but could use some touchup, wall air conditioners (we kept the 2 sliding glass doors open to cool down the room - it can get very windy since you are on the ocean. Outstanding staff behind the front desk, the room cleaning staff, and the restaurant staff - also, purchase the buffet breakfast as part of your total coast - it’s so good!
While our queen sized bed sagged in the middle, I’m confident that the staff will replace it.
The hotel is 12 km from the City Center and the V&A Waterfront, in Bloubergstrand, an area that is really growing. Plenty of restaurants, free parking, uncrowded beach - though in summer there are lots of paragliders on beach & n the water - lessons are available onsite if needed. If you are ok with driving, go ahead & rent a car at the Airport (roughly a 20 minute drive). The traffic is awful during rush hour, so avoid am & pm rush hours! Recommend take guided tours if possible - many can pick you up at the hotel. Dolphin Beach Hotel also has a truly awesome van driver in Rafi - what a super guy, and makes himself available if you need to get somewhere.
Kudos to Thandie, who I communicated with over six months ago when I had a million questions, and had confusion over the hotel payment. She was very patient with me throughout the process. The dollar was at a good exchange rate with Rand.

Disappointed stay.

Booked weekend stay with my wife. The room is dated with stained smelly burnt holes carpetmust be as old as the hotel The decor is ancient, the furniture looks like 80's second hand bought. The bathroom id not disabled friendly, shower head spouts water in different direction but on the bather, had lukewarm water in the shower for 2 days. Outside stairs to rooms are not disable friendly, rails on one side only hotel needs a twentieth century overall, has the potential to become one of the best resorts in Cape Town.

This hotel has a beautiful view of table mountain and is set up so everybody can see it, and it is right on the beach.it is a 20 min drive to the waterfront in cape town for shopping and eating, The hotel restaurant blow fish is really good our waitress was very good..
On the downside there were daily power cuts during our visit, due to world wide circumstances,which you can't blame the hotel for, but this property has massive potential for both its own solar panels or a wind turbine combined with electricty storage, this would make this hotel, immune to power cuts, more eco friendly and more profitable, ... surely a no brainer

Dolphin Beach review

We had a wonderful stay at Dolphin Beach Hotel over Christmas and New Year. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating.
The Blow Fish Restaurant which is on the hotel complex is great with fresh fish every day. the bar staff were also excellent and introduced us to several new cocktails.
The Beach Cabana accommodation was spacious and provided direct access to the sand dunes and beach
The hotel gardens were immaculately kept
It would be useful to hire a vehicle as the closest other shops and restaurants are approximately 1km away. The larger shopping center is also approximatley 1km away but it is difficult to access by foot due to a busy dual carriageway.
Due to the season it was difficult to find taxis for short distances although Uber was available
The hotel location is excellent for Kite Surfing, access to the wine region and central Cape Town was a 30-60 minute drive

The property is perfectly located. Could not be better. Disappointed with check-in although I must add that when I expressed my dissatisfaction, the manager immediate put matters right. I had booked a room based on the pictures on Expedia. It was called a sea view apartment and the pictures clearly show a bedroom and a separate living room, but when we checked-in there was no separate living room, but just the bedroom. I was then given a cabana with a separate living room and an extra bedroom. The pictures on Expedia perfectly matched the cabana, right down to the view and the furniture. The sea view apartment should be relabeled sea view room.

Great location

Friendly staff, great location right on the beach with the classic view of Table Mountain. The hotel also has a very good seafood restaurant. Swimming pool is a bit small. More a splash pool really, but, if you can face the cold water, swimming in the sea is always an option. Apartments have a small kitchen, and there are shops nearby, so you can always prepare your own food if you want.

Home away from home.

Exceptionally friendly staff always willing to lend a hand and gave us information when asked about tourist attractions. Hotel was neat and tidy not to mention spacious. The hotel management upgraded our room for free. Outside were beautiful garden and the beach just a walking distance. Breakfast was very tasty and always served warm.

I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious en-suite bedroom with a separate lounge and ktchenette for self-catering. Another plus was the large balcony with views over the wetland area. I could have stayed longer!

Superb Location

Spent 7 nights here recently - myself, my wife and our 2-year-old daughter. Room was superbly equipped and had everything we needed. Plenty of space too and lots of storage.

If I had to be picky, the room was quite dated and could do with a refurb soon. The satellite TV was nearly always struggling with certain channels too. Reception just appeared to be bad at various times. But this is an ideal place to explore Cape Town from and the surrounding areas are very peaceful.

It was disgusting. Room floor filthy place freezing have a oil heater burnt my hand moving it. Asked for another heater brought a tacky small fan heater. Room stinks smoke furniture smells. Called three times for a plug. Oven top disgusting wouldn't even cook on that so rusted. Towels smelt awful. Changed rooms freezing everything old basic. Again smell smoke. Excellent stay in a beach front cabana that provides great access to beach dunes and long walks on the pristine South Atlantic sands. Our room is also just a 2 minute walk to the Blowfish Restaurant where morning breakfasts were served and which serves amazing seafood in the evening - services is great and the food excellent. Helpful friendly staff at the front desk, at check-in and when we were leaving.

Great beach location, but rooms need upgrading

Rooms are large and spacious, with separate dining/living area and bedroom. We had a huge bathroom too. They need modernising however, everything looks worn and dated (especially the bathroom). The pool is small and not suitable for young children - it had no shallow end and is 1.2m deep. There is only room for 2 chairs/sun loungers at each side of the pool. Given the size of the complex, this seemed very strange. The massive plus however is the location on the beach - our son loved playing in the sand dunes and we loved watching the Kite Surfers and the views of Table Mountain and central Cape Town in the distance. It is right on the beach. We would stay again for the beach location alone, the hotel room needing updating is the compromise.

Disappointing hotel unfortunately

The staff was great and it was good to hear that they are renovating May 2017. The cabanas didnt have a sea view as advertised, but you could see Table mountain. The rooms also do not have a view and the main bedroom is at the neighbors door and we were woken both nights when the neighbors got home at midnight. The food was also disappointing. The breakfast was unfortunately below standard, didnt even have a choice of eggs, scrambled had to do. The breakfast was the same every day. The Blowfish restaurant was pricey too. The staff tried and they were the highlight of our stay.
They also just had a small swimming pool, with no view and place to sit. I hope they have new plans for that with the renovation.

Lovely, but a bit old.

Hotel is really nice but it is rather old and the rooms need refurbishing. Also, there was loads of long black hairs in the room presumably from the guest before me as well as a big clump of hair in the bathroom cupboard. 24 hour room service would be appreciated for business trips.

Additionally, when more towels were required, I dialed all the available numbers and no answer. I had to go to reception twice to get towels and thus was late for my evening plans.

The location is superb and the views are pretty special. The hotel however is not cheap and the rooms need to reflect the rate in terms of cleanliness and newer finishings.

I do love the fact that the hotel was right by the beach. I have 3 boys and they loved being able to run along the beach. The only downside was the distance to get into downtown or to table mountain. However, the hotel was great and had a great breakfast and wonderful restaurant for dinner!

This was a very comfortable and economical stay. The rooms were huge and had the added advantage of a well equipped kitchenette, so could self cater. Restaurant was very good too for when we did not want to self cater. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend.

Family get away in Cape Town

A fantastic family weekend from Friday afternoon to Monday morning. It felt like a true holiday. The beach front cabana was comfortable & perfect for our needs. Breakfast was superb & staff extremely friendly & helpful. The cleaning staff could benefit from some training in their job & customer service.
The location & views were magnificent & security was not an issue. Our children had a wonderful time at the beach & we felt comfortable allowing them to run around on their own. Overall, a fantastic weekend. Thank you!

This hotel has spacious rooms with views and ocean sounds. Convenient to activities and restaurants, in house restaurant is very good. My stay was during the cooler season so hotel was very comfortable. No air conditioning may be a problem during hot weather.

Our family holiday in Cape Town

We had a fantastic time and would definitely come again. It was especially nice to have separate room/beds for our 4 daughters. The apartment was very roomy and had all the facilities that you need for a holiday. Absolutely fantastic views of Cape Town. Our holiday was perfectly timed as we had fantastic weather and one evening we even had all the kite surfers out right in front of our rooms. Thanks Cape Town for a wonderful experience.

Chose wisely and make sure you get the right room

The room is advertised with magnificent view of Table Mountain, why we chose to stay there and a great sea view yet our room had another building in front of it. False marketing at least for the room in question. The big balcony with the room overlooking Table Mountain is shown in the advert with a beautiful table where you can sip champagne in nice chairs. Broken old table that was accompanied by two broken chairs. Really not what was offered. Complains about it result in \"Sorry\" and that was it. Wont stay there again or recommend it. In house restaurant..better to get their room service..service will be better and the pricing will also be better.

Great view, spacious and low key

Awesome week long stay. We arrived to a sea facing room with an obstruction which prevented us from having any view. We inquired with the staff who changed our room with little hassle. New room was spacious and well appointed with a spectacular view of table mountain, the beach and Table View skyline. The food at the restaurant on site (Blowfish) was very good and the staff were amazing. The hotel location was a bit of a drive but accessible to downtown Capetown.

Ransacked on our first day by hotel staff.

Well The location is great. For the room itself there were a few things broken, like the shower door, the pullout couch and there was no WiFi even though I was given 4 usernames and passwords to connect with. I did report this the next day, and was told they will took care of it. After a day out on the beach we returned to our unit only to find out that we were ransacked. I reported it to the front desk, who grinned and found my report amusing (as if this is suppose to be a normal thing). We took a huge lose and there was no attempted from management to even try to compensate for our lose. This was the first time in my live that I was robbed by hotel personnel (since our room was locked and the only people with access was hotel staff). I will definitely not stay there again.

The most amazing view and friendly staff. If the unit had aircon, I would vote it one of my top 5 stays in the world. Right on the beach. I asked for a crib and arrived to find a very good crib, high chair and baby bath. Every breakfast was a delight, simply because of the staff

I was in Cape Town for my daughters wedding having travelled from the UK. The hotel was lovely especially the beach cabana which was 100m from the beach. The hotel staff were superb, very friendly and helpful. It was a shame that I could not stop longer, but I only had a week in your hotel.

The people make the difference!

This hotel is in a fabulous location, literally a 1 minute walk from the glorious white sands of Dolphin Beach. We stayed in one of the self-contained Beach Cabanas. The appartment is very spacious, although the bedrooms feel a bit on the small side, the use of the space for themopen lounge/dining area is well judged. The big patio doors give a marvellous view across the dunes to Table Mountain. While comfortable the overall condition of the apparement was a bit \"tired\". Most noticeable was the poor finish in the bathroom - with broken tiles replaced by mis-matching ones, very crude finish around the bath and mirror and a DIY shower-screen to stop water leaking past the shower curtain. Basic kitchen utensils were supplied, and a small fridge stored the essentials, with masses of spare storage space. The free Wifi in the room was fast enough for FaceTime calls, which was handy as mobile reception was poor that close to the beach. with the twin bedroom, the double bedroom and a sofa-bed the appartment would comfortable sleep 6 adults - great value.

Minor niggles about the room aside, the quality of the service was exceptional. Everyone we dealt with was happy, courteous and caring. From the check-in process which was quick and friendly to the speedy response to requests for a cot, spare towels etc. Room service was lighting fast and the food from the Blowfish Restaurant was exceptional - particularly the sushi!

Disappointing hotel

The Dolphin Beach hotel was disappointing for my family and I. The room was not well equipped, although we did find out additional kitchen items can be requested, but not until day 10! We stayed in a beach cabana and the room did smell. The sofa was falling apart & very uncomfortable to sit on. The location is beautiful, but the pool is not big enough for the size of the hotel. We did room service several evenings, & this was very good service and the food was delicious.

Hotel (City Center vs. Beach front)

Location - This Hotel is on the beach which provides easy access to beach and gives you a view to the Table mountain but it is far from city center and Victoria and Alfered Waterfront and surrounding shopping malls. So those who looking for ease of access to all key locations although you may take tour or taxis but any Hotel close to Victoria and Alfered will give you a best ease of access to city center and other key points to visit.

Internet facility - Internet facility in the rooms is week and often does not work.

Room - Rooms are spacious and like service apartment with all appliances such as microwave, washing machines and gives you an option to cook.

Swimming pools - very small

I stayed for a short stay of two nights with the purpose of sleep only but I would recommend stay closer to the city center (Victoria & Alfered Waterfront).

The location of the hotel is great, righ ton the beach. the structure is a bit dated and would probably benefit from some renovation, but overall acceptable. the staff is well prepared and prompt and Always nice. unique drawback is the restaurant on the premises. we had dinner there twice in a week, first time they served some sushi that was horribly rotten, the waiter brought the piece back to the chinese sushi handlers to show, they simply dumped the fish and went on their business. their response was improper as the food was for sure sickening. second time we had friends and kids, waited more than 1 hour after placing the orders to receive the food. kids were starving. only after complaining to the manager (whom was useless to say the least) the waiter was able to get the order ready.

Excellent Location but Needs a Desperate Upgrade

The first eveing we arrived, the room was dirty and smelled disgusting. I don't think they bothered to clean the place and change the bedding. The bathroom was horrible. After lodging a complaint, the lovely receptionist made sure to tell the Manager who promptly arranged for a better room the next day. Trevor went out of way to change furniture and have the carpets cleaned. He also gave us a complimentary bottle of wine and biltong. The staff are pleasant overall but could benefit from being taught how to use handy andy or vim to scrub the bath and tiles. Cleaning definetely could be improved. A complete refurbishment is definetely needed. The restaurant breakfast is the average same and after 8 days we were glad to be away from the same food. We would be happy to return only if improvements are made overall to the condiiton of expecially the bathrooms. Wonderful location though.

Lovely hotel, shame about hotel reception staff!

Hotel is nice. Right on the beach. The staff however were extremely unprofessional. Upon arrival we got told the wrong room number... we found this out by our key worrying opening more than just our room! We also got told completely incorrect information regarding drinking on the beach... luckily the barman told us just in time that it was illegal. And finally when we were leaving, they tried to charge us an extra R400... not sure what for but when I asked what it was for I was told that I then didn't need to pay anything!
