The room was clean. I like the hot water. The room doesn’t require air conditioning. The staff was very nice and professional. The pool and waterfall were great! The food was excellent! The excursion to the Haitises park was adventurous. Our tour guide Wilfred made it fun and he was very knowledgeable.

A unique, attractive, boutique-like facility with lots of attention paid to detail appearance. Very nice, stylish rooms. Excellent very helpful staff (limited English speaking). Somewhat “strange” partnership with neighboring facility where connecting ponds water features are located (a fair walk, especially the return uphill). Fairly isolated and difficult to get to with very limited activities.

The hotel is in a fantastic location, and we had a great room with a balcony and a fabulous view. The downside was the weather! We had so much rain, and everywhere was damp and muddy.
A la carte restaurant meals were fairly good, but the dinner buffets (which we were forced to have on occasions) were not very inspiring.
We also discovered to our cost that the hotel does not have any meaningful first aid supplies.

Beautiful and worth the long drive!

We loved our stay at Altos de Cano Hondo. It is a lovely hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. We also loved the hotel guide Wilfred who took us on a great tour! The architecture of the hotel was wonderful, the food was basic but good and the scenery was beautiful. You should note that Altos Cano Hondo is the smaller sister hotel to the larger Paraiso Cano Hondo. They both share the same natural pools but you need to take a quick walk down from Altos to Paraiso to use the pools.

What a wonderful place. Very rustic but stylish design. Comfortable beds, beautiful view from the balcony and loved the idea of a hammock in the room for chilling out. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful. All staff were friendly and keen to help. The natural swimming pools were very unique and a great way to spend a few hours chilling out between hikes or kayaking nearby. Only negative is be prepared for a terrible road for the last 7km of driving to get there!

This eco lodge isn’t very eco or a lodge. It’s more of a resort located away from the town and anything around. You are completely dependent on the resort for everything, food, water, transportation and excursions all must be done through the resort and no one else. You feel trapped. Food was not very good and very limited selection, they run out a lot of the menu items.
Was really looking forward to staying here and left one night early very disappointed. And no, they did not refund my last night nor did Expedia do anything to help.
Would not stay again.

This is a place to come and be at peace with nature. It is a two compound hotel, each run by a different administration (Paraiso vs. Alto), but share the 13 natural pools between them. There are no hotels, houses, buildings or any other construction around so you can really hear the crickets at night and see all the stars in the sky. Fridays and Saturdays they have a fire gathering that really allows you to enjoy a serine and wonderful peaceful time. There are only one restaurant per compound, and they have lots of times buffets which is not to my linking, but Altos allows you to choose a la carte also :-) The a la carte food is good and very reasonable pricing. I wouldn't take the all inclusive meals because you might decide to go on several excursions and eat else where, and I think it is just cheaper to pay at the end for what you really consume. For example, a package for me and my kid was USD208 just for the 3-day stay, but with meals, it was going to be USD510 but doing it by meal, it was USD324. We didn't eat all meals and sometimes when we did, we shared a plate or two.

We met wonderful people from the first day and decided to eat together often and spent time in the excursions and pools.

It was really a nice, one-with-nature time well spent. There are no thrills like live entertainment or a disco or anything like that. So if that is what you are looking for, this place is not for you. But you do have lots of wonderful ways to spend your time!

The pictures are accurate, this property is beautiful. It’s worth staying one night just to get the pictures and spend time in the natural pools. The place SEEMS natural and “ecofriendly” cause it’s all natural materials and no wifi or tv but they never really educate you on what makes it eco-friendly. The first day they give you a schedule for the restaurant (and there’s nothing NADA around so you have no choice), then they proceed to not follow the schedule at all and never inform you of any changes. Very confusing. The restaurant food tastes horrible, but as I said there’s NOTHING nearby. And they just keep adding things to your tab but never telling you the cost so on the last day you’re shocked. Lastly, this place is great for ADULTS but definitely challenging with little kids.

Best hotel in Los Haitises

This is an amazing hotel if you want to disconnect, stay in touch with nature and enjoy nice people and ecological environment.
The rooms were big and lots of space, hot water, and the view of the Bahia de San Lorenzo is just in front of you when you open your beadroom windows. During the night it rained a lot and the sound in the zinc is a therapy. Thanks all for the good food and Wilfred for a great tour to Los Haitises

The architecture here is stunning. Worth it just for that. The restaurant is overrated, but acceptable. The staff very friendly and helpful, but don't expect any English speakers except the guides for excursions. And then there's the view. Wow. Great place overall. Make sure to ask for Wilfré as your guide for excursions. He speaks great English and went above and beyond to make our trip excellent.

I drove by this property a few months back and i was amazed at the look of it. I stayed here last weekend and i loved it. the room was huge ( stayed at the double bed room) with a beautiful view. The food was great everywhere we ate.The staff was so kind and accommodating. If your looking for a hotel tucked away for a peaceful time this is the place! Staying here is right next too Los Haitises National Park which is so fun and a beautiful experience. I would defiantly recommend staying at least three nights to see what the park has to offer and the hotel with all the natural pools on site.

The food is very good. The people are very nice and serviceable. The overall comfort of the hotel was expected since it's an Eco Lodge, but a nicer decoration wouldn't hurt the place. We had two great excursions offered by the Hotel: the Haitises and a trekking on the humid woods behind the hotel. Both highly recommended. We wanted to ride horses, since it was mentioned on the excursion list and it's a great activity for kids, but these were not available which was a huge down for our kids.

Be prepared to walk up some stairs but the view from your room is worth it. They also have another property down lower that you can visit, Paraiso Cano Hondo. Spectacular setting, nice staff and beautifully designed facility. Lots of walking up hill and stairs, but worth the effort. We stayed at both Paraiso and Alto Cano Hondo. Paraiso has the benefit of being closer to the pools, but Alto has the better view and better service. The rooms at both are similarly beautiful. Excursions into Los Haitises are great half-day adventures.

The best balcony view ever!

We took a taxi from Punta Cana as we wanted to stay at this hotel in the National Park and were so glad we did. The main road to Sabana de la Mar was good with little traffic after leaving the area around Punta Cana. We knew that the road to the hotel was unpaved and our taxi driver did very well (not a 4WD) - it was fine but very slow. We stayed for 3 nights to give us plenty of time to enjoy the location, which was about right for us.
We had two rooms on almost the top floor/layer - all the rooms are at different levels and the views were wonderful. Our second room was upgraded to a fabulous family room with four double beds and two balconies. The beds were comfortable and we managed to keep them fairly cool with the fans (no air con here!).
The food in the restaurant was good and well priced.
We took two tours with the hotel guide (Wilfred) who was great - the national park boat trip and the forest walk. We booked them when we arrived and they were much better value than booking from outside the park. It was a 5 minute drive down to the jetty for the boat trip, which was part of the tour, and a lovely ride from there through the mangroves to the bay and the caves.
We were able to do the forest walk at 7am before it got too hot. It was fascinating and our teenage children loved seeing all the fruit growing in the rainforest, but there were many mosquitoes, so be prepared!
We swam in the pools, which was very refreshing though the pools area was a little untidy.

Beautiful hotel in the national park. You have to eat in the restaurant because there is nothing else nearby. Even with a car it takes 40 minutes to get back to town. The only way to see the park is with a guide, which can be a bit pricey but well worth it if it is in your budget.

Altos del Caño Hondo is just beautiful!!! Perfect location to visit Los Haitises NP. Every member of the staff really polite and helpful.
Excellent breakfast and restaurant.
We were there for 2 nights and the room was not cleaned.....probably it was just a mistake, and they just forgot, but we didn’t mention it at reception.
Overall, excellent lodging option in a beautiful setting.

Remarkable and one of a kind experience!

This is one of the coolest places we have ever stayed in. Magnificent architecture in the most stunning location. The pools and waterfalls are beautiful and refreshing. The staff was very accommodating and helpful and kind. If you travel in April (not Semana Santa) you will ensure you have great weather and are only one of few other guests. Places to Hike around the hotel and other opportunities to explore through the mangroves and beautiful bay are super close. You must come here! One of the best kept secrets of the DR.

There was a lot of noise in the hotel, because it is being renovated.
The pools are very nice, but some of the beach chairs are broken.
Somewhat strange was that there is no cleaning service, you had to ask. The 9 km long way from Sabana de la mar to the hotel was simply an impertinence ... you should point out that you need a 4x4.

Great place to relax from the city noise

First of all, rent a high vehicle because the road leading to the hotel is part of national park and it’s just terrible. Any normal Dominican vehicle cannot handle it due to holes and rocks, you can really damage the car and it lasts for about half an hour. Otherwise the hotel is amazing. The views are spectacular and it’s so relaxing, it’s like being on a completely different island. The food is great and prices are reasonable. The staff is really helpful and it fell like a 5 star place in terms of service. The rooms are made with wood and it’s very authentic. The natural swimming pool is very cold and refreshing, great place for pictures. Great experience overall!

The concept itself is great, having a hotel in the mountains. The staff was nice, the supper menu was surprisingly super affordable, seeing that we were in the middle of no where we had no other option but to eat there. There is hot water and fans in the room. We personally would have never entered the natural pools since the water was freezing and seemed dirty, but the Spanish tourists we saw seemed to love it. The only negative comment about the hotel is that it takes 30 minutes to get to the hotel from Sabana de la Mar because the road leading to it is a dirt road full of big pebbles and large potholes, therefore you can't drive much faster than 15-20 km/h. The breakfast was included in our stay, but it wasn't the best breakfast I had. The wifi did not function while we were there.

My best vacation experience in the DR. My family was amazed by the quality of service, the friendliness of the staff, the comfort level of the place. The food options are simple but deliciously prepared and healthy. Wildred took us on 2 memorable and mind-boggling excursions in the national park and we just can't stop talking about it. If you are looking for a true connection with nature while enjoying the amenities of a 4 stars accommodation, this is the place to be. My only regret is that we should have stayed there longer than 3 days, and fewer days at the beach resorts.

Unique \"eco\" hotel, perfect to scape the world

Food is limited. Do not expect variety. Few staff. Beautiful view. Bring any toiletries you need. There is nothing around to eat.
The hotel was built in a rock mountain. Is quite an experience. The pool is a natural waterfall. We stayed here to go to Los Haitises, a National Park. We payed more in food and drinks than the price we paid for the hotel stay. Food is pricey.

I nickname this hotel Waterfalls Hotel, it was built around the waterfalls, made use of the local raw material,blend seamlessly with the nature, it is a jewel on the crown of Los Haitises NP. Food is good, excursion cost 1000peso, reasonable priced. The only drawback is the ragged jagged road. Try to arrive before dark.

Simply amazing

The hotel is amazing the drive is brutal . There is no direct route from Las Terrenas or Samana. From Boca Chica it is about a two and a half hour drive. this is the kind of place you want to spend 2 to 3 days minimum at.

Rustic n romantic

Bueatiful rustic hotel, great views, very simple rooms, but clean. no ac or television, do hav wifi, very romantic, i loved it. Bring bug spray

The worst hotel

terrible experience its a nice place the natural swimming pool but I don't recommend the experience that I had,They charged me 28% of taxes plus they charged me twice and the room was very unclean and dusty so my family got sick
