We were not very lucky with the weather but the premises are beautiful. They could leave a few more things in the bungalow, like salt, oil, or wine glasses. It’s also 1 1/2 hrs from La Fortuna’s main attractions like the Hanging Bridges etc. The hot springs were much much nicer in real life than in the pictures.

This place was a highlight of our trip. My family loved the hot pools and it's amazing paths and views. We ate at the restaurant on site 2 times and really enjoyed it. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our bungalow was fantastic other than the hard spring feeling beds. We woke up to every toss and turn, but other than that this place was exactly what we were looking for and needed. Very beautiful and clean.

I liked the nicely illuminated cement block path (with wood rail supports) that leads one down and down toward the hot springs, which are located in a beautiful wooded setting. The atmosphee is tremendous. The deli and drink bar (which I did not utilize) was an added attraction.

The only negative I would mention is that the bathroom shower needs to have soap trays, and ideally would have some non-slippage strips for footing - or at least a study railing inside. I say this because at my age of 75, I need to be ever vigilant against falls. The tile flooring in the shower renders it slick. Again, as I am ever vigilant it did not present a problem. But we did have to put our bar of soap on the floor (in its paper wrapping, no less!) just outside the shower.

Springs and river are wonderful, enchanting. No ghost water in the shower, but after a day in the hot springs wasn’t really missed. Beds ok. But I wouldn’t miss the springs. Horseback ride was also great and my massage package was top notch.

This place had seen better days

Our bungalow had cockroaches dead and alive crawling from room to room. The bed was so uncomfortable we did not sleep through the night and got up with sore backs and body. The mattress was purchased in the 70's perhaps, you could feel the springs poking you. There was no Duvet! only a flat sheet!! Considering you are in a higher up location and nights get cool, it would be nice to have access to some warmer bedding. The hot spring was quiet but nothing to brag about ( not clean in North American standards). We would definitely never go back....

Hot springs in the forest.

I enjoyed both the thermal springs and the hotel facilities. While the springs were in the forest on the edge of the property, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the way it was built. If you don't like walking in the forest at night, although well lit pathways, you may be looking for something else. There was no problem with bugs at this time of year, Dec.

Good food, friendly and helpful staff, easy directions to the hot springs (walk-able of drive-able). The sweet pathway through the forest and the hot springs itself is magical. You are literally in the middle of the forest, with forest sounds while soaking in natural mineral pools! This is one of our new favorite places in CR :)

Great thermal baths. A real gem. The spa offers many services and the staff there does a wonderful job. The rooms were nice and very comfortable. The resturant is also very nice. a two hour drive to San Jose. Don't drive this at night; it goes thru some high mountains. The scenery is beautiful but this is not a drive if you don't like heights and hair pin turns.

Termales del Bosque was a truly authentic Costa Rican eco experience. The grounds were beautiful, the staff very professional and cordial, and the food was delicious. The highlight, of course, were the hot springs. I've visited several hot springs, especially those in La Fortuna and I am happy share that Termales del Bosque was a wonderfully unique experience. I had a deep body massage. And not expecting a good massage for the extremely low price $30!, I was taken a back by the technicians high skill level. If you are looking to be pampered this is not the place to visit. If you are looking for an tranquil and relaxing experience in nature, this a well worth 2 night visit.

Is a pleasant hotel and friendly. Perhaps a little out dated and could use some modern touches like hot water at the sinks. It does have hot water in the showers. Coffee in the room would be nice.

The thermal baths are amazing. Both day and night they are enjoyable. However each time we went to the baths, they had no more towels left. Quite disappointing.
A problem easily fixed - buy more towels or runs more washing loads. Walking through the jungle wet is less than enjoyable.
Rooms where basic, but nice. Shower seemed to hardly have any hot water.
Breakfast buffet was good.
Dinner buffet for me, wasn’t anything special. Order a la carte instead!

Nice hotel...government policies in question

Aging hotel with great food and staff in a decadent governmental system. The beauty of the grounds go beyond the accommodations. Everything in Costa Rica is over priced due to the value added tax system, not only for tourists but also for locals. It's expensive for what you get. Food and drink, accommodations are at NY prices. No income tax dictates high import/sales taxes. Costa Rica produces next to nothing so everything tourists are used to costs double. It is absurd. But the country is beautiful. Forget about retiring there. The resort is antiquated but affordable for what you get...magnificent location greatly planted with tropicals with great rainforest trail to natural hot spring baths. Food is good and expensive for what you get. Worth a try. But be ready for the prices, Example: mouth wash in typical CR grocery store: $9 American for mid size.l

I travel to this part of CR fairly often. And I have stayed at Termales Del Bosque several times over the years. This may be my last time. It’s a shame because I really do enjoy the hot springs. But, when I arrived the air conditioner and TV’s did not work. After a few attempts of the staff, nothing was resolved. Then I had to remind them 2 more times before the airconditioner was fixed. Once it was fixed they kept turning it off when they serviced the room. Therefore I had to return to a hot a humid cabin every night. The mattresses need to be replaced. I can feel the springs in my back while trying to sleep. I didn’t get the TV working until after my 3rd day there. The shower heads need to be replaced as well. They were so clogged up that water would squirt in different directions. They had a very small bottle of shampoo in the room upon arrival. The next day they removed the half empty bottle and never replaced it. The breakfast was the typical CR breakfast buffet. But the food was not fresh and poorly presented. It was terrible. I was there for six days and never had breakfast there after the first day. The service was less than average as well. The front desk clerks sat in their chair during every interaction with them. Nobody seems to care enough about our issues to resolve them. It’s a shame, the buildings, the premises and the hot springs are very cool. They just need someone to run this place that knows what they are doing. And they need to renovate.

A relaxing hotel

Very beautiful place in the country with hot spring pools -- a bit of a hike to get to them but the hike is beautiful. Good value for the money. Good food in the restaurant. I have stayed there many times. Rooms are simple, beds are not firm mattresses. Most hotels <$100/night will be a little below Motel 6 standards for room comfort in CR.

Not What We Expected

The first thing to go wrong is navigation. GPS will not take you to the hotel but to some unpaved, washed out dead end. Arrived late after getting lost twice. Everything in the room was damp/wet from all the rain. I'm not blaming the hotel for the weather but I'm thinking the glass louvers missing from the windows and the large gaps in the doors didn't help the wet conditions in the room. The only amenities this room had was a bed, TV and bathroom. There was an AC/heater unit but it didn't work. I was told there would be things like coffee maker, iron, etc… like you would find in a typical U.S. hotel room. When I asked why these things weren't there, I was told I would have to get another room for twice the money if I wanted those things. There were ants and roaches crawling on the bed. There was no hot water in the sink. We were suppose to stay one week. If it weren't for the fact we were exhausted from the flight, the five hour drive through the mountains and getting lost because the GPS doesn't get you to the hotel, we would not have stayed at all. We checked out the next morning. The staff was friendly enough and the restaurant was okay though neither of these would outweigh the problems I mentioned above. We weren't expecting a five star hotel but we were expecting more than what we experienced.

This is an out of the way resort....

Staff very accommodating and friendly. Restaurant on premises - good food for the value. Buffet breakfast included in night stay and the use of the hot springs. Now that is a different story...this is not for the weak or disabled person.
The walk to and from the hot springs is at least 2kms return. Terrain is steep and the last portion of the walk is very rough and narrow steps and not too many hand rails. The stonework around the pools is rough - watch you do not stub your toes...ouch. Alternative - check the schedule of the shuttle which can take you part of the way and pick you up. We were not aware of this until after we had walked down and back. I think the staff should have pointed out the many signs on the boards displayed in the reception area.
Rooms could have hangers in the closet area.....shelving in the bathroom to hold your toiletries/hairdryer and shaving equipment. The front doors and the bathroom doors groan ad creak very noisily due to swollen wood...rather annoying at night. The rain and wind blew water into the front entrance door so that when we awoke the floor was wet for about 1 meter in.

This was my first trip to Costa Rica and was a learning trip. The staff were warm and friendly despite my not knowing much Spanish. Warm greetings, smiles and laughter and friendliness was my treasured experience. I have made some great friends.

The Termales are great - rustic style, not fancy. Cocktails and massage were wonderful. The room wasn't in very good shape, though. We were the whole night disturbed by a noise from a vent that openend every other minute. Breakfast was okay.

Great REAL Hot Springs Experience

We loved the opportunity to enjoy the real hot springs, and actually felt the curative effects.
The walk from our rooms to the springs took about 15 min. You could also drive there or get a lift from the front desk staff. The hotel is comfortable, and very clean. We felt safe. The staff were friendly, the food was good. The hot springs were amazing. All genuine natural hot pools heated by the nearby volcano. The water full of curative minerals. A swim up bar, a sauna, pools of various temperatures under the open skies felt great even in the rain. (The sun goes down at 5:30, the springs are open til 10 pm, and are sufficiently lit.) Termales del Bosque was one of the best experiences of Costa Rica!

Nos hospedamos 5 personas, 2 adultos mayores, en el bungalow 3. La vista maravillosa y las aguas termales fueron muy satisfactorias.
La propiedad es muy tranquila y bonita. Realmente para descansar.

El único detalle que noté es que las camas y las almohadas no son tan cómodas. Solo por eso le doy 4 estrellas.

J'aime la tranquillité de cet endroit et la marche en forêt pour se rendre aux bassins thermaux. Par contre, il y avait de la musique non relaxante (reggae) au bar des bains. Je trouve que c'est un endroit ou il devrait y avoir une musique de spa ou de relaxation afin de se détendre.

这个酒店太旧了，可能是10年前装修的房子，价格和酒店条件不符合！房间里没有饮用水，没有咖啡机，床垫也是非常旧，睡的不舒服，枕芯就一个，不适合，早餐很差！若大的度假村也就住了几个人！幸亏我就订了一天！

Terrible en la recepción, demasiado lento, usan impresoras de puntos, que duran demasiado rato. Además, en la habitación el aire acondicionado no funcionaba, salimos a buscar ayuda y el guarda nos dijo que no hacer nada.

Posteriormente, el vigilante nos dice que va ir a la habitación a tratar de programar el aire acondicionado, pero no pudo. Entonces, salió y posteriormente regresó con la llave de otra habitación, indicándonos que estaba al margen de las políticas del hotel, pero se arriesgó y nos ubicó en otra habitación.

No lo recomiendo!

Desde que llegamos la atención bastante mala. Me recibieron diciendome que era imposible que tuviera reserva. El restaurante pésimo, sentíamos que había que suplicar por un desayuno que estaba incluido. Nunca había paños para ir a las termales.
La verdad lo único que vale la pena son las aguas termales, recomiendo pagar pase del día y comer y dormir en otro lugar!

Lindo lugar para pasar un fin de semana en medio de la naturaleza, habitaciones muy básicas, recomendaría que tuvieran un pequeño refrigerador y ya las habitaciones lucen un poco viejas. La comida buena, a veces sentí mucha gente en las piscinas.
