Best all inclusive family resort I’ve been to on the south west cost, we all love the place. Super relaxing, super friendly, simply a great few days away. I only wish they gave/offered stake knifes when they gave you beef stale. Manager reading this, please try cutting the stake with the blunt knifes you offer, it’s difficult yes? But don’t worry, we will all be back soon 👍

We had a nice stay. Our initial interaction upon check in wasn't great, the lady on the front desk was rather aloof and unwilling to help with a room issue. The rooms are a little 'grubby'. The floors are maybe swept but not mopped in what appears to be a high turnover property. Pool facilities are great, Breakfast great, The Italian restaurant was ideal for the kids.

Lovely location and you can walk straight onto the beach where you can spot giant turtles swimming. Room was spacious with ocean front balcony, bathroom clean but tired. Good breakfast buffet with plenty of options. Great base for visiting Galle as well. Plenty of shops and restaurants outside. Friendly and helpful staff.

Det är ett helt ok hotell. Något slitet och rummen behöver renoveras. Att brandvarnaren blinkade över sängen hela nätterna var otroligt störande. Vi åkte under lågsäsong så det var lugnt på hotellet. Många som jobbade där var väldigt trevliga men de kändes inte alltid så pigga och alerta. De borde gått runt och erbjudit dryck vid poolen eller så för att öka försäljningen. Överlag nöjda ändå!

The hotel is very nice and room very good tbh all cinnamon hotels are very good standard and during our holiday we stayed in 4 of their properties. The only reason for low score is due to additional charges for our room. I made a mistake when I booked and did not add my husband to the booking (even though charge for room is same for 1 or 4 people) the hotel charged me $50 per night to add my husbands name to the room ( the room charge was only $80 per night) this seems extortionate charge for an amendment to the name on the booking especially as the room cost is not much more per night. So please double check your booking before going, if I had spotted the mistake 2 days before arriving then there would not have been additional charge. This really tainted our stay and was very upsetting as there seemed no real reason to charge this amount

This is a lovely resort with a nice pool and immediate beach accces. The restaurants are really great and breakfast is varied and filling. The room was slightly dated but clean with a nice view of the sea and resort. You can also quite easily walk around the area but everything you need is within the resort.

Beautiful hotel with great amenities

This is a really nice hotel - included very nice elements of Sri Lankan culture while maintaining all of the modern comforts you would expect out of a 4 star hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, and the pool area was super nice with great views of the ocean from every chair. Very relaxing. Wifi was also very strong throughout the entire resort grounds, and food was delicious with a lot of options in the buffet. The surrounding town of Hikkaduwa isn't the nicest, but you won't want to leave the resort so it's okay.

Good: The beach. The pool. The variety of dining options. The hotel though in several areas like the rooms, lifts etc could be cleaner / better maintained. The AC struggled to lower the room temp below 24C. The light in the cupboard where the safe is located would not switch off. Flushing the toilet resulted in it running for over 5 minutes. The grout on the shower enclosures could do with the occasional clean with bleach…. Not what I expected of a hotel with such high daily charges.

Hotel ia tired looking and Room is old, aircon is LOUD that you cant have a peaceful sleep! Gym equipment are rusty, Walkway to the room is dark and breakfast limited choice. Front desk is inefficient and security team lack initiative and worst they abused their authority ny profilitheir guest. The only plus in this hotel is the friendliness and efficency of service staff is crab shack restaurant.

This property is a pretty run down for the price. There are some good things about it for sure, and it could be a great resort. In my opinion these are the changes that need to be made.

-The front desk was slow, understaffed, have poor procedures, and at times had a bad attitude. We had a rude bartender who seemed very confused about our room number, arguing we had already checked out. Buying two beers while we were paying guests was an ordeal. The rest of the staff was great.

-The bed needs a headboard, like a proper bed. Your pillow is against a dirty wall that was stained. The room needed a deep clean.

-For many westerners like myself, coffee is more important than breakfast. Good coffee, readily available in larger portions, would be a simple, inexpensive change to make caffeine-fiend westerners happy. For me, bedding and coffee are the two most important things a hotel can offer.

-This hotel attracts some very unpleasant guests. It isn't the hotels fault, but be prepared.

The hotel is well located In Hikkaduwa. The property is extremely old un un-kept. Service is very slow and a lot of the basics (lounge chairs, terrace, appliances) are not in good condition.

Fortunately the property will undergo a mayor renovation during the first half of 2020.

A great location! Right on the seafront and close on the Main Street. Wonderful breakfast with a lot of variety for vegans and vegetarians. Comfortable beds and rooms. A little dampness meant that the dehumidifiers has to stay on all the time. It didn’t bother us but it might disturb people’s sleep if not used to a fan. Thank you for a nice stay!

I booked online while at the hotel through Expedia. I believe that they penalized me for doing so. The room I received was one of the worst in the hotel. Was not clean, had broken lights, broken locks, broken doors, etc. I think they save this room for people who book online. Really disappointing. I definitely won’t book another cinnamon hotel again and will avoid Expedia as well do to the error unless someone explains that this is not common. Would appreciate a response. Thank you

An average 3* tourist hotel in a good beach location. A good selection of reasonable quality buffet food in restaurant. Service in the restaurant can be slow at times, but always polite. Some rooms can be noisy late into the night if near entertainment. Our first allocated room was situated directly above the entertainment but we were promptly moved when we complained.The second room was also of much better quality and cleaner than the first. Service around the pool areas is poor. Pool areas are plagued with crows and little is done to resolve the problem. Cleanliness of the pool could be better.

Great location when staying at Hikkaduwa.
The accommodation was excellent and the staff were very much customer focused....especially the sun/pool chair attendant who worked tirelessly to have chairs available with padding....great job.
It had the most breakfast choices for any of the places we stayed in Sri Lanka.
Plenty of dining options outside the hotel. There is also a supermarket and wine store just down the road.

If you are into nature:
Turtles in the water at the resort also added to this being a great hotel to stay at.
Lots of squirrels and crows about as well

Just be aware that resort pricing for drinks is high, but as mentioned, plenty of options outside the resort.

Most of the staff was very helpful. Breakfast buffet was always good but everyday it was same. they could try to offer some different dishes each day to give a variety. Their pool towel policy doesn't make any sense, we had a discussion with Hotel GM and hopefully he will correct it. we paid for a 5 star hotel but they dont even let their guest use steam room which was very disappointing. Property and restaurants are well kept but rooms are really dated. Need some updating. some of their server and wait staff really dont understand what you are ordering and you end up getting totally different dish than what you ordered. their restaurant staff can use some training. over all good hotel. One thing i really like to tell their management that please treat all your guests equally. your staff tends to pay more attention base on what you look like.

Fantastic Beach Side Resort

When you walk out to the pool/restaurant/bar area you instantly feel like your on holidays. The vibe is great and the pools look over the beach which was a great view of the sunset. My parents enjoyed the buffet whilst my sister and I scoped the local beach restaurants and also saw massive turtles in the ocean. Customer service is fantastic. Rooms are starting to show their age but still very pleasant. We would definitely visit again.

We thought that Sri Lanka was a great country and very much enjoyed our month there.
Hikkaduwa was perfect for my husbands surfing as the waves were consisent.
The hotel was lovely and the staff amazing. It is impossible to name everyone as they were all very attentive but I would like to say a special thankyou to Krukshan and Hashan our room lads and Malaka, Mithon and Lasantha our pool boys. Prasanna (Fernando) one of the many waiters were great. So thanks to all of them at the hotel.

The Breakfast was stunning.

However just a couple of things we noted was that our room needed a bit of TLC peeling paint on the walls and dodgy plugs socket. Also the standard lamp was hanging off its hinges. I just think the maintainence was a bit lacking.
Maybe we were a bit unlucky but we had to have two changes of safe as they packed up.

It did seem a shame to us that the guests did not take advantage of the live music provided in the lounge maybe it need to be s bit more in view we felt sorry for the guys singing away to nobody.
The internet probably not was supposed to keep you logged in for a week but kept going up the creek and we must have had 10 different passwords in the time we were there and at one time we had three password simultaneously.?
Could have done with a few more english TV stations
But overall we had a wonderful time and really enjoyed our stay thanks to the wonderful attentive staff.

When I booked the Hika Tranz, I knew it looked big but really wasn’t ready for a resort hotel, it has piped music round the pool, which we could hear clearly on our 4th floor balcony. It is a non smoking hotel but people smoke on their balconies. We left the hotel a day early we would have left sooner if we could have found somewhere quickier. Staff were helpful when we left but tried to charge us for 2 drinks from mini bar and we only had one.

If you are looking for a tranquil authentic Sri Lankan hotel this isn’t it. It is a family orientated hotel, the 2 turtles coming to the beach twice a day are magical, but a bit of litter on beach, so if they would get a bit greener that would be good.

There are plenty of places to eat along the road/ beach, very authentic and great staff too, so venture out if you need a break

I never bother with writing reviews but feel compelled to this time.

Hope this is helpful to all, if this hotel does it for you good, but if you are looking for R&R I would book somewhere else

This was the last stop on our Sri Lankan trip and we were hoping to find a similar standard of hotel and service that we received in our previous stay at Cinnamon Red in Colombo. Unfortunately, we were left really disappointed. When we arrived in the hotel we were shown to a room that was dirty (The fan didn’t look like it had been cleaned for WEEKS) , Damp and Freezing (due to a dehumidifier that was left on in the room). We asked to move and were finally reallocated a bedroom. However, this wasn’t any better but was the only option we were given. We found the room to old, very dated and covered in small bugs- certainly not what you expect from a reputable brand hotel . We didn’t feel that this hotel was reflective of the service provided and the price paid for the rooms.

There was a slight mix up with the room upon checking in. I booked a room with a bath tub, according to pictures shown on Expedia. But the room given to us didn’t have one. Dinushka, the executive officer in charge was very kind to give us the room as shown on the website. Many hotels I’ve booked in the past would just blame Expedia or the booking site and dismiss my request.
We were very lucky as there were only 2 such rooms and one happened to be available.
Throughout the discussion, Dinushka was extremely polite and professional. So was all the staff working there.
We ended up with the Superior Triple Room, with a bath tub. However, the tub leaks water even though great care was taken not to spill water. Nice concept to have the bath tub indoors, but flooding takes place. Even housekeeping mentioned that. Good concept but maybe have the tub installed outdoor since the balcony’s huge?
There’s a lot of humidity in the room, maybe centralized AC wasn’t such a good idea. If there’s no AC and we are allowed to open doors and air the room, maybe the tiles wouldn’t have condensation on them. The humidifier just made it worst. Fresh air is always better.
I think the hotel has been around for a while and needs a facelift. For eg, to the lifts, and exterior structure of the building.
Nonetheless, we enjoyed our stay very much because the staff made up for the lack. The poolboys actually recognize and remember our names even though we were there for 2 nights!

Would Stay Elsewhere

We stayed here at the end of 2 weeks in Sri Lanka and it was by far our worst experience. Our room stunk of mould, mildew and sewerage, we could barely breathe in the room. We called reception numerous times and no one came to look at the room. On the 2nd night I had to go down to reception and basically get angry until they sent someone and then all they did was give us an oil burner! On our final night we were finally moved to another room, upgraded to a suite that was great, but we expected better from a 4 star rated deluxe king room that we had booked originally.

Areas of improvement would be the smell in the room, the quality of the food on the breakfast buffet and the room service experience. Best hotel experience ever!

My wife and I had the most amazing 2 nights at Hikka Tranz by Cinnamon.
The location is perfect right on the beautiful beach where the sea turtles come to play everyday.
Ample hotel facilities where boredom is never an option.
I travel a lot but I've never seen such a delicious variety at the breakfast buffet! Including 8 different juices and many different local dishes.
The staff were so friendly and cooperative. Can not fualt the service!
And the room! Such a beautiful room overlooking the Ocean, where you can catch the most amazing sunsets! So comfortable and relaxing...and the Jacuzzi on the balcony was an added bonus!

Great hotel with lovely wildlife

Best things about this hotel is the turtles and the squirrels! Huge turtles swim up to the beach and eat seaweed out of your hands!!! The same for the squirrels that live in the trees by the pool, lively little fellas.

The breakfast and lunch buffets (didn't try dinner) are amazing! I like that theres no rush, as when some hotels say breakfast finishes at 10, they start taking away food at 9:50. There was no rush here, loads of options and staff available to help.

The rooms are nice, with great views, I couldn't recommend this hotel enough!

my experience wasn't bad but it wasnt spectacular either.

we checked in late in the afternoon, despite haven't requested for a late check in and check out- we were forced to check out at the usual time, due to the staff member not notifying the relevant party.

Breakfast was good- but there was a severe space issue- we had to wait around for people to leave .

The hotel is to lose its charm though, as its always had a great vibe to it.

an expensive but good hotel in a great location

The Hikka Tranz is very well maintained, cleaned constantly and beautifully decorated. Staff are all very helpful, friendly and multilingual.

The room, restaurant and pool areas are very well kept and a real pleasure to spend time in, and the hotel is right besides the beach - the perfect base to explore the surrounding village and beaches from.

Meals weren't included in the price of our booking, and we found the price of meals (especially in the evening) to be very expensive - especially considering the alternatives just metres from the hotel down the street, offering the same standard but for a fraction of the cost. All meals are in a buffet format and the offering is very diverse.

The premises are reasonable secure on the road-side, but completely open from the beach.

It was great!

Great experience at a great hotel. The best in Hikkaduwa beach. Beach was amazing. We really enjoyed it. Nice places around the hotel where you can eat and shop. We shall return in the future. It was a great experience.

Over rated by a mile.

Damp smelly bedroom. Dehumidifier on all the time in every room which is very loud. Lunch took 45 minutes after order. One sandwhich and one wrap? Some security let off fireworks every thirty minutes to scare birds and squirrels. This started at 7am? Brutal. Moved to hotel across the road for one quarter of the price. Way nicer with better service.

Wonderful hotel which sits right on the beach, however our most memorable part of our holiday was meeting the turtles which swim in the ocean next to the hotel, we even fed them under the watchful eye of their protection officer. The hotel has large spacious rooms with a lovely balcony which looks out to sea. Try and get the rooms on the upper floors for the best view.

Convenient, well equipped hotel

Convenient hotel, quite large, catering for large groups. Great grounds and pool, next to a nice part of the beach in Hikkaduwa. Hotel is very well equipped with a nice gym and even a squash court. Breakfast is very good too. Wifi access wasn't great in the hotel and stopped working one day.

Reservation nightmare

We made a reservation through Expedia, paying a very large sum upfront (peak season)for a triple room with breakfast. When we got to Sri Lanka and rang the hotel we were informed that there was no reservation and no record of any payment being made. I was sent from pillar to post, ringing Expedia, the hotel, and Cinnamon Head office in Colombo with no resolution for two days. I wasted part of my precious time in Colombo trying to sort out this mess, not to mention the cost of phone calls (as I was on roaming) and rushing around forwarding emails, receipts etc. When we finally turned up at the hotel in Hikkaduwa we were very disappointed with the quality of the place, considering how much we had paid and the trouble they had put us through. They did not make up our room till past 5:00pm even though we were allowed to keep our luggage in the room. Overall a very disappointing experience.

This was a fantastic 'resort' hotel to stay. Large hotel, comfortable, great pool and access to the beach, shops and restaurants. Just know that a lot of Russian tours stop here.
