A lovely room (superior) — bed was nicely sized and comfortable, and they kindly offered extra pillows as requested. Bathtub felt luxurious! Liked the touch of coat hooks and was impressed by the tea and coffee station — a proper metal kettle (not cheap plastic); lovely Birchall tea; nice homemade allergen free shortbread bites. A Dyson hairdryer was offered, too, which added to the touch of luxury. Room was generally very clean (apart from the dusty radiators and fan sitting in the corner of the room — could be easily rectified).

Food was absolutely amazing. The Sunday roast was such great value for money — beautifully cooked and generous portion size. Well worth the money. I was very grateful for the kind accommodations made to some of the meals as per my pregnancy requirements, too. Nothing was too much and the service was excellent. I recommend the brioche bread and butter with bay leaf custard, too — delicious dessert!

Only slight issue was that it was a tad noisy as our room was right by the door to the staircase down to the bar and restaurant — but to be honest, if other guests had been more considerate in not slamming doors or talking loudly as they walked back and forth from their rooms, that may not have been so much of an issue.

Overall we would be very happy to return and stay here again. Very impressed and the food and accommodation made for a nice short getaway. Thank you to all at the Wheatsheaf Inn!

Everything was amazing. The room was outstanding, beautiful, comfortable, spacious with great attention to detail. The bath was the focal point of the room and I didn’t want to get out of it. Even provided locally sourced luxury toiletries, perfect for a relaxing bath. The rest of the hotel had a cozy atmosphere with lovely decor. Staff were friendly with a relaxed yet still professional service. Just what we love, a quality establishment but without any pretentiousness! The food was another story altogether, well presented, generous and generally yummy. Breakfast was the same, lovely food and a great selection on the buffet table. Would definitely stay again if visiting this area

We have been in the UK for the first time 8 day trip. This was by far our favorite lodging! We stayed in a 5 star hotel in London and it paled in comparison to The Wheatsheaf Inn. The room was absolutely beautiful. The restaurant was delicious…we had dinner after arriving and breakfast the next morning. Best meals we’ve had on our trip! The staff was so friendly and attentive. We couldn’t recommend it more!

Hotel in general had a cosy feel about it and the staff were delightful. We didn't like the new extension (looked cheap) and spoilt the overall ambience. We initially checked into room 10 which was dark and cold and adjacent to a staff thoroughfare and kitchen. We were moved to room 7 which was far better but unfortunately, the bathroom had a nasty odour from the drains. Also, the bathroom door handle was faulty and my husband got locked in there temporarily. We reported this to the manager and she said she would look into it.

Disappointed at the Wheatsheaf

Perhaps my expectations are unreasonable, but when I asked if there was an elevator to the room, the person that checked us in explained that in hotel as old as the Wheatsheaf, that was not possible. Ok then, I wrongly assumed that someone younger than us (I’m 68 and my husband is 73) would give us a hand with our bags. We’re both in very good shape and quite capable, but just out of a sense of good hospitality, that would be offered. It was entirely up to us to get our bags to the last room on the 2nd floor. We tried breakfast the next morning as the dinner the night before was ok. I asked for soft boiled eggs and while not on the menu, I didn’t think I’d have to be worried about what I’d get. They brought out 2 super hot unpeeled eggs and the eggs were completely hard and cooked through when I athe the And the server never came back to see if everything was ok. The bed was comfortable enough, the room was supposed to be rustically quaint, and the plumbing was modern. However, the shower stall was so small and the shower head so large that there was no where to stay out of the spray to lather up. There was a very deep claw footed bath tub with a handheld sprayer, but no way to really keep the spray from straying outside of the tub when you washed your hair. And the tub was so deep, it was difficult to get into and out of. We felt so unwelcome in the Wheatsheaf, that we left a day early. I definitely did not find it romantic, charming or welcoming.

We returned to The Wheatsheaf for a night stay for my birthday after 8 years. The food and service is still very good and we have fond memories of coming here.

However, we were put into room 2 which is the top of the stairs, right next to the store cupboard and were constantly disturbed with stomping and loud noise from staff getting stock. This was especially noisy in the morning when we’re trying to sleep.

Considering they were not fully booked, it would have been nice if we had been put at the other end of the corridor away from there.

The window in the room is also and old wooden single glazed sash window which allows all the road noise and voices in.

Needless to say, we didn’t sleep well.

We would return but only for the restaurant and a drink. I would stay elsewhere next time.

However pleasant looking, The kitchen Aircon stays on till 10pm and comes on again around 7am making it very difficult to relax or get a good night's sleep. slept 1 night out of 4.

World Class Accommodation

Staff: World class service. From entering the reception to leaving out the door, everyone was incredibly polite and helpful. Impressive effort and attention to detail to make sure my stay was as enjoyable as possible.

Room: Very well decorated, great bathroom, powerful shower and nice soap. The bed was huge and also very comfortable. I was also impressed at the homemade shortbread and lovely coffee from the Nespresso machine. However the only negative is that there was no desk (only a chair and seating on the window sill) - but this may have been due to the lack of space in the room.

Food: On the first night I had the pie of the day (chicken, ham hock and leek) in the restaurant which was absolutely incredible - However next time I would order extra gravy and a side of broccoli. I also had the homemade scotch egg which again was lovely. Night two I ordered room service for the prawn cocktail, which was good, and the burger being incredible - Although I had just been on a long run and was famished!

Reception/Inn: Unfortunately they were re-decorating part of the bar area so was limited on space, but the restaurant was at normal operation. The parts that were open were all nicely decorated and felt homely - although the couch seat, as comfortable as it was, felt a little too low for eating.

Overall a wonderful stay and I will certainly be returning when I am in the area next.

The food is excellent and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Gardens are beautiful. The room, not so great. Bed sagged on both sides from all the bodies before us, the sink is slow-draining, there’s nowhere to put out two suitcases, and the shower is minuscule. As an inn, I suppose it’s charming - dusty and very shabby chic. It just wasn’t for us.

Boutique room was fantastic, but the service in the restaurant really let this place down. Booked a table outside, was told to find the outside waiter and was stood waiting for 10 minutes with no sight of anyone other than others dining. When someone finally arrived I was told there was no space outside, despite booking a table an hour earlier. Thankfully the waiter managed to squeeze us in at the back of the outside dining area, but then proceeded to forget drinks/sides that we had ordered and left us waiting for our deserts for an hour in a then empty restaurant. After an hour we were then told that they didnt have what we ordered, so we ordered an alternative and waited a further 20 minutes for luke-warm deserts to arrive, one of which (crumble) was inedible. Severely overcooked and resembled concrete rather than crumble. At a cost of over £100 for a meal for two with a couple of drinks each it left a lot to be desired and I certainly wouldn’t recommend eating here.

Had a few small issues regarding payment for our rooms but this was sorted at check out. This is a fantastic place to stay. The rooms are beautiful and very well equipped with everything you would want. The staff are great. Harriet looked after us very well as did Dale. We stay in the Cotswolds quite a bit but have never stayed here before. We will definitely be staying again.

In the restaurant we ordered a roast and it was extremely good. It was also a very generous plate of food. Breakfast was also superb.

We highly recommend the Wheatsheaf.

Small and disappointing

I booked this as a birthday present for parents.

They enjoyed the service and thought the breakfast was good.

However, the room was tiny with the en-suite not even big enough to fit a sink, so this was in the main bedroom. It was very noisy and the shower was poor. They also experienced water coming through the ceiling. Thoroughly unimpressed with the room and not the 5 star hotel stated on the website.

Had read good reviews of this place but clearly they hadn't had our room. It was so small it was claustrophobic, cluttered, virtually no room around the bed. We had to put our suitcases in the bathroom. Dining in the restaurant was spoiled by 2 parties with dogs when there was plenty of room in both the bar & outside. Breakfast was poor. Service was poor.

Beautiful property with super cozy rooms and restaurant area. Adriana was very helpful and friendly, welcoming us and providing all the necessary assistance with crib and checking into our room.
Location is perfect as it’s very close to several other villages and towns. Walking distance to a convenient store and a coffee shop.
We very much enjoyed our dinner at the restaurant two nights in a row. The meals were delicious, we tried the chicken supreme, beef liver and pork belly.

Great location to see the Cotswolds tho parking could be difficult at busy times. Comfortable rooms tho size of ours was compromised by huge dimensions of bathroom - would prefer more space in the bedroom itself with perhaps a table and/or sofa. A few breakages in bathroom that really should have been fixed beforehand. Food was really delicious with generous portions. Service was excellent. Was put off tho by the cleaners who were sitting on the landing browsing through their phones so we had to step around them to get to our room on day of arrival! They really should be either working or have a designated area where they can take a break.

The hotel is so lovely and in a great location, just a short drive from shops / restaurants and tourist attractions. The staff are super friendly and the room was lovely, with all the amenities you’d need including a mini fridge, tea/coffee/milk and my personal favourite was the Dyson hairdryer - the only thing I would say is they could do with adding a more lights in the car park as it was really dark of an evening and made me quite nervous to try and reverse in / out of a space at night. Other than that it’s a really lovely, affordable hotel and I’d recommend it to anyone!

Lovely inn and restaurant with cosy seats and nice selection of drinks. The food was absolutely amazing and reasonably priced. The braised beef was fenomenal. The reason for my lower ratings on the accommodation is that the room was absolutely freezing when we arrived. The staff didn’t think to check when outside was -3C. The bathroom also had no heating so we couldn’t even shower till next day in the morning because it was too cold. Also the heating was stopped during the night so again we woke up in cold. The room whilst decent enough was way too expensive for what was on offer. We were hoping to get the superior room with bathtub as advertised in pictures instead we go a very small room with only shower for the same price. It’s misleading. I would definitely come again for dinner but not to stay. The staff were nice and friendly.

Lovely bedroom and bathroom, nice and comfortable. Bed was very squeaky however. Unfortunately the fire alarm went off at 6:30am, we rushed outside but couldnt see any staff. After a while we went back inside and tried to get back to sleep as we had a long day ahead of us. We were disappointed that there was never a explanation or apology from the staff here, especially with the amount we spent for one night

We really loved the room, the bed was super comfortable and the bath was great at the end of a busy day sightseeing, it’s location was not what I expected however it was a very quaint little village.
We were disappointed that we were advised on checking in that dinner was not available due to staff shortages, we had selected this hotel based on reviews for the restaurant however we had a great meal and fantastic service at the pub down the road. On arriving back at the hotel there were a couple of people dining and didn’t appear to be busy.

Alarm kept going off intermittently for over 10 hours therefor we couldn’t sleep and had to leave! Windows not able to open, but even if I could there was kitchen fan’s making an awful racket outside. I would like to add that it wasn’t the managers fault but not a good experience.

The Wheatsheaf Inn

Amazing hotel and exceptional staff. The room was amazing and probably the most comfortable bed ever. Bath room excellent. Food was superb and just perfect. So overall a superb inn to stay at. thank you

The Inn was in a great location and staff were amazing.
The only negative was the the lack of a wardrobe in the room.

Access to car park was narrow because of beer barrels stacked at one side of driveway.
We would have appreciated the availability of bar snacks after closing of the restaurant.

Everything was perfect

The room was gorgeous with lots of old and modern touches. Shower was lovely, and the products smelt amazing. We stayed for dinner and it was gorgeous! Breakfast was lovely. Everything was perfect!

Lovely stay in the Cotswolds

Great stay at this gorgeous inn. We only planned to stay one night but our meal at the restaurant was so good that we stayed a 2nd night and ate at the restaurant again.
The staff were terrific and the room was super comfy

We had a delightful,dinner out under the marquee. The wait staff was friendly and helpful.
Our room,was Luxurious and the copper tub was amazing! Highly reccommend!

A lovely little place to stay, with great, welcoming service and good quality amenities like toiletries. The room was small, as expected, but was in great condition and smelt wonderful. The rooms get a little hot at night (a fan is provided) and the streets can be noisy.
