Dis Cottages were great for our stay! The views of the mountains and ocean were phenomenal and the area was peaceful and relaxing. The cottage was clean, check in and out was very easy and we would love to return if we are back in the area. This was one of out favorites places that we stayed at during out time in Iceland.

Unfortunately for a few reasons this property fell short of our expectations, which were quite high given the photos and descriptions on the website - note that they reflect the stand alone cottages and not the studio apartment we stayed in, Pros: clean, amazing view and setting, great communication with host and the on site caretakers were extremely friendly (our stove top wasn’t working and she brought us a new one); good bathroom and shower, modern new decor. Cons: Tight space with only one double bed despite us requesting two twins (we were informed that none of their rooms have two twins - highly recommend they offer this option for friends traveling) - also the room was very warm and no air ciculation - opened window and many bugs (no screen) - no climate control which made it uncomfortable - cramped kitchen and dining space - also property had a sauna but we were informed at check in that you had to pay, so we didn’t use it. Disappointing overall as we booked 3 nights here and were eager for a more relaxing and comfortable experience. Had the poorest quality sleep here after 2 weeks in Iceland. If you book here make sure it is in a cottage and not the studio!

Didn’t receive checkin code. Had to call from parking lot. Water heater stopped working at 3am and we barely slept. No water in morning- couldn’t shower or make coffee. Beautiful room but disappointing

Kirkjufell view cottages

I stayed here 4 times now and absolutely love these cottages! Great location just outside of Grundarfjordur...very quiet and peaceful with great views looking out to ocean, mountains/Kirkjufell, and beautiful sunsets! Cottage as everything you need even small stove plate on the kitchenette you feel like cooking. Hosts also great and reply in timely manner to emails.

We stayed here for two days early September. The location of this cabin is very nice and peaceful. It offers a side view of Kirkjufell mountain and the little town, as well as a beautiful view of the ocean, but is located about a ten minute drive from both locations.

We arrived on a very windy and rainy day. A window had been left open in the cabin and it was very chilly and humid in there. The heat did not work. The owners quickly responded to our message and came over to try and fix it to no avail. They brought us three portable heaters to heat up the cabin which eventually became a comfortable temperature, but this created moisture problems in the windows.

Secluded quiet location. Access is bia dirt road. Nearby town is about 20 minutes away. The cottages are much better than the studio option. But more expensive. The shower curtain was too short so water would spill all over the bathroom floor. We had to clean the floor after every shower. During our 3 night stay there the room and bathroom were never cleaned by hotel staff.

We enjoyed the location and close proximity to sights inlcuding Kirkjufell Mountain. Apartment was clean and the amenities were well supplied including the kitchen. Blackout curtains were good during our August stay.

Please be aware that the property's standard check in time is at 5pm, which seemed unusually late. The property did not respond to an early check in request.

The stay wasn’t bad, but also wasn’t wonderful. It was acceptable but slightly disappointing for the cost. The place was ice cold when we got there (roughly 10-12 degrees), and it took about 20 minutes for it to start heating up again. The pillows could probably use an upgrade and the floors left my socks stained, unfortunately.

The views from the cottage were unbelievable. Might be my most favorite spot in all of Iceland to be honest! We were lucky enough to have a clear sunny day with an absolutely stunning sunset. Mountain ocean and grassland views with subtle city lights )in the distance). As an avid traveler, I never want to revisit places I’ve already been, however I will be thinking about my next trip to Iceland just to stay here again… absolutely amazing!

This cottage is located in a beautiful spot of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, right on the beach looking over the Bjerdha Fjord.
It is close to Grundarfjörður town, which has grocery stores and restaurants, but at the same time it is isolated enough that we could see an amazing Northern lights spectacle late at night!
The glass walls on 2 sides of the cabin allow even to observe the lights from inside (there are all blocking blinds/curtains when you want privacy, no worries!).
The bathroom could use a bit more shelving space, and the kitchenette is really small, with a very tiny fridge.
But the view of the sunset on the shore, the amazing starry sky at night (in September) and the sheer quietness of this place made up amply for these little shortcomings.
Highly recommended!

The location and scenic views are outstanding. The room is fairly well laid out and the bed is very comfortable.

Cons: the standard units are quite small: there is no room to put your luggage. Also, the driveway up to the cottage is full of potholes-they could be filled with gravel.

CWe loved our stay at Dis cottages – the view cannot be beat! The bed was comfortable, the shower had plenty of hot water. It was a great location for us between Grundarfjordur and Stykkisholmur when exploring the Snaefellness peninsula.

We got stuck in snow traveling up the road to our cottage, and it was very scary for us. The road should have been closed sooner than it was, but nevertheless our host helped and came to get us. He drove us from our stuck rental car to our cottage and then brought us back to the car the following morning and helped us dig our car out (literally shoveled our car out with us)!!!! He was AMAZING and was truly the best part about our scary experience on the mountain. While for the Icelanders the wind storm might be a normal thing, for us tourists it was scary and unknowing, and our host truly put us at ease and took us to safety. I would go back to this location again and again to show these hosts gratitude!!!!

Host was very rude and incapable to manage a cottage business. We arrived in storm so with understanding of the bad weather condition, we expected no more than basic requirements of accommodation. Cottage has no sign for parking and we almost drove down the hill. Doorway to the cottage was all covered and blocked by snow. The guy didn’t clear the way after we told him the room number. Also no shovels were provided. Two of us cleared way ourselves with the tiny windshield scraper in the car and used the windshield scraper from the room trying to move some snow on the way for our mother, but the guys found us and yelling “that should stay in the room!” THEN WHY THE F DIDNT YOU PROVIDE A SHOVEL OR CLEAR THE PATH YOURSELF FOR UR CUSTOMERS?! The next morning, snow on way out was like half-person-high so we called the cottage to clear the way. A lady said they would come and clear, but no one showed up ever since. Main roads were cleared by larger tractors shown on road.is but the way out from this cottage to the main road was blocked so we called the cottage again to remove the snow on their property. The same lady picked up again and yelling "I'm not your slave!" The place even has no enough hot water for shower for two in the same cottage. That was terrible in a storm night. The cottage should close down during non-summer season. This was an absolutely awful experience. The host wants to make money but should learn what service and attitude they should offer first.

Can I say perfect? Yes! Sometimes we find unicorns. This place had all we needed for our trip. Secluded, quiet, great view & everything you need in a small cottage/rental. Bring your groceries, not a lot of restaurants in the area. The kitchenette saved us too👍

If you’re looking for a self-service glamping style experience this is the place! It’s quiet and serene, we even saw the northern lights with a long exposure camera. Just enough space for two people and you are provided kitchen essentials including coffee, tea, and a hot plate. Any of the poor reviews I’ve read have mostly been because those people were expecting a concierge hotel experience and this is not it. Yes, you need to push the water after a shower into the drain but it’s minimal and takes 30 seconds tops. Yes, you have to wait for the water heater to reset to take piping hot showers for two people but this is an area with limited resources so easy to deal with. My only suggestions for the hosts are to provide an extra pillow since they were flimsy and maybe some napkins. However it’s easy to grab cheap napkins at the store up the street. Overall a very good experience.

We chose this property because of the views ( kirkjufell and ocean ) it offered. It is off of a gravel road ( short distance). There are a few cottages on this property, which gives privacy and offers unique cottage living experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay. Note: We reached here during a rainy evening with a limited visibility, but Google maps came through for us when the Wi-Fi hotspot and even the car gps did not.
Advice to tourists is to download google maps offline, search your location/route when the internet is available and save it for later use. I have now more respect for google maps than before!

Awesome views - rooms 1, 3 and 5 have the best I think.

The room is a bit smaller that expected and there is nowhere to hang clothes other than a clothes hook.

The blinds don't keep the light out very well and there is one small window without any blinds.

Shower is very powerful but the curtain doesn't do a very good job of keeping the bathroom dry.

The cottages have a wonderful view of the bay and surrounding mountains. Large glass windows added to the viewing enjoyment. Bird lovers would enjoy the many varieties flying around the adjoining meadow. It was only a short drive to town for gas, groceries and restaurants. The perfect home base for visiting other sites on the peninsula.

Overall a nice, cute place to stay with great views. Having a TV would have been nice. Only downside with this property was that the shower doesn’t drain fast enough and the shower floor is just part of the bathroom floor (no separate lip on the shower to keep the water in) so the entire bathroom floor was covered with water by the time I was done with a relatively short shower.

Overall, we had a good stay. Please note you must travel gravel roads about 1 mile to the cottage. The first night we were there it was very windy. The wind would hit like a hollow pipe and make the loudest noises. It was very hard to fall asleep. I wish they had provided more towels.

Beautiful, serene location with just a short drive into town. Breathtaking views, modern furnishings, comfortable and spotlessly clean.
Great amenities such as kettle, coffee maker, induction burner and a large variety of cooking utensils and serving ware. Loved that the kitchen was stocked with coffee, tea, sugar, salt and pepper, we ended up making all of our meals there for our three day stay.
The bedding was so comfortable and soft and there is great water pressure in the shower.
Anne and Sebastian are so friendly, helpful and responded immediately to any and all of our needs.
We really felt at home here and were so happy that we opted for Dis Cottages instead of a hotel - there is no comparison.
If you are fortunate enough to visit the beautiful town of Grundarfijordur, this is THE place to stay.

Iceland economy is fueled by tourism... cottage should favor the tourist.
GOOD
-new (not yet on GooMaps) & modern.
-1 corner is glass facing inlet, Kirkjufell. Units #d 1 thru 10 going N to S. 7&8 with blocked view.
-well located north-central Snaefellsnes. 8min to cute town of Grundarfjorour (gas, market) near ridge w waterfalls. 30min E to Stykkishólmur for Westfjord car ferry, or 1hr W to Snæfellsjökull.
-town is a bit of pollution but otherwise dark w good vista for aurora.
-wifi great.
BAD
-Ffew jacket hooks, 4 small cubbies. Iceland is cold/damp. Hangers would be nice.
-Kitchenette too small... sad for new. Appl are on top of each other (microwave blocks the 3 plugs, but kettle, toaster, coffeemaker makes 4 plugs & induction plate). Flip up table to cook on is awkward.
-Shower has no shelf, bottles on floor? Shampoo/soap dispenser provided. No handle, but strange circles- hard to turn w wet hands. No floor bumper to prevent water spill. At least a curtain. Doors exist, no? Instead, floor squeegee.
-Only hot water for 1 person. Heater needs hours to recharge- not good for new place. Heater out in open next to bed. Head-scratching.
-No road sign for Dis Cottages. Large driveway potholes- fill these in!
-Mattress WAY too firm.
-No TV, sugar, oil.
-Hairdryer wimpy, better to stick head out the door.
-If neighbor deck light is on, ruins darkness to view aurora, privacy partition between decks! Auto-off?
-Americans need induction plate instructions.

I loved thos property. The owner introduced herself upon arrival and made sure we had everything we needed. The view from the balcony is stunning. Inside is cozy and the owners had thought of everything you might need to make a meal. They even thought to include and instruction and guide book. This was my favorite stay in all of iceland.

The listing doesn’t do the property justice!

I was not expecting the magnificent views of the ocean and the town, or the modern quaint home. This was our first stop in Iceland and my favorite area due to the low number of tourists. There were also 6 Icelandic horses on the property that the owner let us spend time with. That was the absolute highlight of our trip since we came to experience Icelandic horses in their natural environment! Thank you for a wonderful property!

I could not understand why we were the only cabin being used. When I'm travelling, this is exactly the type of stay I look for. Peaceful, private and a little off the beaten track. I could sit all day looking at the view and never have a care in the world. Definitely will be coming back and staying longer. A great base for exploring the amazing Snaefellsness Peninsula. These cabins are in a remote area, but despite being a bit off the beaten path, it is an easy drive to visit the entire Snaefellsnes Peninsula. We were able to see the Northern Lights from right outside our cabin during the first week of September! The bed was comfortable and everything was very clean. This place is also very sturdy. The one evening it stormed terribly with extremely high winds. Our cabin was solid as a rock. The one negative is that there was not a "stove" as listed in their description. Instead there was a plug induction cooktop with no instructions. We had to find a youtube video on line to figure out how to work it. There was also not counterspace for this cooktop so we had to set it up on the table where we wanted to eat. Had we known there was actually no stove, it would have affected the groceries we purchased prior to arrival. Separate from this, we very much liked the cabin.

Beautiful location. We arrived at night, so in the morning woke to see wind whipping across the water of the nearby fjord. Very warm and comfortable even in an unseasonably early storm. In case you do arrive at night, the cottage numbers are on the walls facing the parking areas, and you’ll need a flashlight or phone light to find them. Highly recommend.

This was our favorite stay in Iceland! It was a little tricky to find. But the location was great, the views were amazing! We even caught views of the Northern Lights! The cottage was so cute! Furniture was perfect. There was even a mini kitchen! I wish were able to stay longer than one night! It was a contactless check in but the owners were good with the emails and instructions on check in and check out. Spectacular

Received email one week prior to stay, telling me what to expect. Excellent communication! Super comfortable bed, fell asleep immediately under the super cozy comforter (I’m an insomniac, so this was a first!). Amenities include full kitchen, spotless bathroom, beautiful view, privacy. The only minor complaint is the door to the unit was warped and difficult to lock. I highly recommend this spectacular place which was the highlight of my Iceland trip.

Nice peaceful cottage with a good view

The cottages are uniquely situated on a field that overlooks the fjord. It’s nice to look out at the water and we had a couple sunsets. Kitchenette small but helpful. Two chairs and a table to sit. A bistro set in the deck to sit out. Best for one or two people. Bathrooms is good shape. Really nice location and nice place to launch each day to explore the peninsula.

Absolutely amazing view. Impeccable modern cottage. Owner was pleasant and friendly. Quiet. Close to National Park. Only caveat is that cottage was a bit small for 4 people to stay. Would stay there again in an instant!

Would be a great location for the Northern Lights, and to explore the local area. Property was in good condition and well equipped for a couple of nights. Was very windy when we stayed, which was very noisy, but the kids didn’t seem to mind!

Recommend this place in a heartbeat

Incredible location with a lovely local town. This is a great spot if you want somewhere cosy to stay either to explore the local area or as a stop off. The drive up from Reykjavik is incredible. Room was clean and well kept.

Lack of communication. It doesn’t seem there is a person manage the property. She has another job during the day, hence didn’t check nor respond emails. Each time I had to dial international number to get hold of her.
The property is in basic condition. The pictures on the website were total misleading. Don’t recommend it to anyone.

Beautiful location

The location was beautiful however due to check in time we didn’t get to experience much of it in the daylight. Once we figured out how to check in (there was no communication prior to the day before) that was easy and the room was well appointed. I think it was overpriced for what it was though

The cottage design was modern and smart. Tight space, but still comfortable for four adults. Clean and the large windows allow for a spectacular view in the morning. Town is only a 5 minute drive away where you can get food, drinks and groceries. Would stay here again.

The view was stunning. Would stay here again. You are next to other cottages but it was not intrusive, we enjoyed dinner and breakfast on the deck overlooking the bay and Grundarfjordur.
