Very nice place to stay in great location. Bakeries, restaurants and shopping are within steps of the hotel. My one wish was that the lobby coffee machine was turned on in the morning instead of unsuccessfully trying to make us buy their buffet breakfast.

The hotel located in the pictures small village. Everything was very close. We had astonishing mountains view from our balcony. Breakfast Buffet was one of the best. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Linden palace is only 15 minutes away from the village. This village has amazing swimming pools with the Alps view. Self served coffee in the morning was really good. We would like to thank hotel owners and the staff for the great job.

A dream to be

The staff was friendly. The room was large and very comfortable and super clean. There were plenty of outlets available for charging. Breakfast is buffet and they have everything you can think of to eat. It is located in the heart of downtown so lots of shopping and places to eat. Not to mention the beautiful view of the Alps we had from our room.

Great stay! A little pricey for the hotel but this was new years week so expected. Staff courteous and spoke english when necessary (we speak some german). Rooms were cozy. Free parking is NOT at the hotel and good luck finding a spot. We drove around for over 30 minutes and ended up far from the hotel as they do not have specific parking. If it were anymore crowded in the town you will walk far with luggage.

The area was very beautiful. Everything closes early. The area in Ettal was beautiful, but in the restaurants, the staff seem like they have a problem with you being there. Very unhappy people and very rude! We went to a restaurant across from Hotel Wittelsbach. Frank, our waiter was the only redeeming person, as far as wait staff are concerned. When we 1st walked into the restaurant, our waiter walked away when we were tring to decode. He never came back. These ate some of the rudest people I've ever met. Such a beautiful area, but the people make one not want to come back. I've been all over the world, these people top the ultimate in rudeness!
Stephanie at the hotel was fine. Overall, 2 people were somewhat kind, or at least, decent over three days. We are on our way to Venice. Perhaps Venetians will be a bit happier. Or at least smile and act happy to see you.

We had a late check in and the staff was most helpful. The door was opened late for us and we found our room key and the hotel information immediately upon entering the hotel.

Oberammergau Visit

Beautiful Oberammergau, it was snowing and cold but absolutely beautiful. Our hotel was charming and the staff were awesome. There were no taxis available to take us to our hotel, so a very nice man in a cafe, called the hotel and someone came and picked us up. Then when we were checking out, the owner, took us in his own car to the train station. He would not accept any payment or tip. There are so many craftsmen in Oberammergau, everything is absolutely beautiful. The good thing is most of them ship to the USA.

Lovely hotel!

Lovely hotel in the heart of a lovely town. Very convenient to shopping and restaurants, as well as to Schloss Linderhof. Parking is located in a public lot around the corner but is free with hotel dash tag. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was immaculately cared for and very comfortable.

This was a two-day stop on a 10-day road trip through Bavaria and into Italy. The Whittlesbach is a fully updated hotel with the feel of a cozy inn, right in the middle of Oberammergou's central area of shops, restaurants and historic landmarks. The shops are mostly tourist-oriented, selling the wood crafts and cuckoo clocks for which the village is famous. Our room was totally modern and comfortable as to beds, fixtures, bathrooms, etc. We enjoyed the large windows and a door out to a terrance, with views across the village and to the mountains. The staff was especially personable and attentive to every need. Parking is in non-reserved spaces in a lot next to the hotel. The hotel has a restaurant, but we opted for a Mexican cantina on a back street on the first night, since we had been eating German and Italian food for several days. Don't miss a short walk to the high-Baroque Rococo Catholic Parish Church St. Peter and Paul, including the cemetery and its memorial to two centuries of the community's war dead.

Spent one night at this updated hotel. I have stayed in the area before but never this hotel. What a pleasant surprise this hotel turned out to be. You can tell it has been around for a while but has had a recent make over and with it they have kept the charm but added a bit of style. The location is great in the middle of the town with shops and restaurants out the front door.

-- The room was nice sized and bathroom updated. Think it needs a kettle to make tea or coffee but other than that it was fine and typical German Spartan bedding. Not bad but very German. Bed was comfortable. They could offer some toiletries like lotion and conditioner.

-- WIFI was free and strong
-- Parking was also free and available just outside the hotel. I can see where it might be limited in peak times.
-- Breakfast was good and included a good selection of hot and cold items.
-- Customer Service was pleasant and professional

Overall - I would recommend the hotel and would stay here again.

As central as it can ever be

We thought it would be boring staying in Oberammergau for three nights and over New Year's eve. We loved everything about it, the houses, the streets, the few restaurants, the food, the crafts and shops, and the traditions. We found it very hard having to say goodbye.

We found this hotel last minute and were very happy with our stay. It is in a great location. Great value!
The room was large and accommodated our baby's crib well. We called ahead to confirm and let them know of the baby's crib and our dog. This helped them reserve a larger room for our needs. We also really appreciated our dog being able to stay with us. For comfort, since there was room, it would have been nice to have a stuffed chair for sitting.

The Hotel was comfortable and clean. Our room was very large and had a big balcony. The staff was very helpful and even allowed us to eat early since we had an early reservation for the Castles. (breakfast is normally served from 8-10am). The breakfast buffet was one of the best we have every had at a hotel. It included eggs, bacon, sausage, a wide variety of breads, jams, cheese, meats, yogurt, cereal and fruit.

I thought I already did this, but either way, we had a great sleep with helpful staff right downtown. Perfect location with free parking off site and a breakfast that made you feel at home in gmas house. No in room wifi, or ac but that was ok. It was unseasonably hot in the Alps but problem solved by opening the windows at night. Would absolutely recommend this family friendly hotel to anyone.

Lovely location, nice atmosphere, very nice and friendly staff. Room spacious with in our case lovely balcony.
Only comments would be the shower which changed from between hot and cold and back uncommanded and weak WLAN outside of lobby area. A great addition to the room would be a water-heater for tea or coffee in evenings.

Spent two nights here ( far too short a time in such a beautiful town). It's picture-postcard facade and central location is what first drew me to choosing this hotel - but it's real charm is evident once you set foot inside. Lorenzo, the hotel's owner, made us feel at home immediately - for a couple of Australians of Indian descent in a small Bavarian town - that's no mean feat! His multi-lingual expertise, intimate knowledge of the area and warm, helpful nature made our short stay at the Wittelsbach unforgettable.

Great hotel in the heart of typical Bavaria

Visiting the Ludwig Castles (Neuschwanstein and Linderhof) and the Zugspitz with family. Oberammergau is the perfect little Bavarian village, and the Hotel Wittelsbach is right in the middle of town. I have stayed here a few times, and would highly recommend it. Very nice buffet breakfast, and they provide a parking pass so you can park at any public spot in the middle of town for free. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

We have stayed at the Wittlebach Hotel five times. Rooms are large,comfortable, and very clean. Staff members are pleasant and very helpful. Petra moved her car so that I could park near the hotel when we arrived late at night. Her kindness and thoughtfulness were very much appreciated. The meals in the hotel restaurant were well prepared and delicious. The breakfast was expansive and superb! we look forward to our next visit. Robert Hulsebus,Ph.D.

Nice hotel for a good price _directly_ in the center of town. Breakfast was also good with eggs, cold cuts, cheeses, bread, yogurts, cereals, juices, etc. Some reviews complained about dated décor, but who cares? It was slightly charming, definitely comfortable, and within walking distance of everything. I will stay here again the next time I'm in Oberammergau.

Wife and I spent a night here - had a wonderful experience. Everything was perfect - room was nice and relatively large. Bathroom had been recently remodeled and was nicer than all of the major chain hotels' bathrooms we stayed at. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was very nice, and they even personalized it with our name at our table. Great hotel, great little town. Only regret is that we didn't stay longer!

Great to be back in Oberammergau!

Visited this town once before for the Passion Play. Chose to stay this time to visit all of the Bavarian sites -- Zugspitz, Eagle's Nest, Neuschwanstein and picked a great place! The room was spacious, the beds comfortable, the bathroom beautifully remodeled. The staff couldn't be nicer and were all so helpful. Hotel did not lose its old-world charm yet had modern amenities. Each guest is greeted in the morning with their name on a little chalkboard on one of the breakfast tables next to a floral arrangement. Really cute if you're into that sort of thing. Hope I didn't spoil the surprise for anyone! Great little town, not too big and not too small. Good restaurants. Good shopping. Wood carvers everywhere. Hotel is directly in the center of town. I would highly recommend visiting Oberammergau and staying at the Wittelsbach!
