Only downside, restaurant and spa way overpriced. 1M IDR for 1 hour food massage or 560k IDR for a curry in Bali is taking advantage.. too bad.

This is the first time I’ve written a review despite being an experienced traveler. But wanted to provide a warning to other travelers considering this hotel. The staff are not responsive at all. At first I wasn’t concerned about it. But then they didn’t respond to basic questions about airport transport. The hotel is remote and hours away from the airport. Their lack of responsiveness made me concerned and as a result I changed my plans. I didn’t get my money back since it was a non refundable reservation but felt for my safety it was the best decision for me. If the hotel were in a closer location to the airport and less remote I would’ve taken the risk. Expedia also attempted to contact them and there was no response.

Beautiful oasis of calm serenity in north Bali. Close to Lovina with convenient shuttle service or drivers provided for tours and outings. But allow plenty of time for simply relaxing at this small, beautifully appointed property with Balinese’s charm, delightful staff, luxurious spa, and a talented chef. 5-star everything, loved this place!

Stayed here for 2 nights for our honeymoon and it was amazing! The breakfast was so much choice but incredible ! We ate at the Damai and the food and drinks were 10/10 for the evening! It’s so nice to sit around the pool area. Service was incredible and all staff are so lovely there! You have to book you will not be disappointed

Stayed here for 2 nights for our honeymoon and it was amazing! We had flowers around the room for our honeymoon and a perfect floating breakfast! We ate at the Damai and the food and drinks were 10/10. Service was incredible and all staff are so lovely there! You have to book you will not be disappointed

Everything about this place is just perfect. From thd mpment we arruved, we felt in love with it. The villas are absolutely stunning. The spa is amaxing. And the food is just exceptional. Sitting by the fire at night , aipping a cocktail, was one of my favourite part id thr day. Highly reccomended.

Over the top, all around amazing above Lovina

Was here to meet up with friends who found this place to be away from and above the crowds and tourists of Lovina. It is absolutely beautiful up here with only the sounds of the countryside. The staff take the effort to get to know you and call you by name. The food is to die for, farm-to-table with the hotel growing much of the food themselves or otherwise preparing it homemade themselves. In fact, people who don’t stay at the hotel come here for the dinners. I loved that we all ate around the pool and bonfire at night.

The owner (from Denmark) and his business partner (from Sweden) were there and were just down-to-earth, friendly people. The local staff seem to be treated very well as several of them had been working there as long as the hotel had been around, for 21 years. The rooms are amazing with beautiful furniture prices picked out instead of your standard boring hotel furniture. And although situated up in the hills of Lovina, should you wish to go into town, the hotel offers a free shuttle down and back for your convenience. They also provided us with transportation back to the airport at 5:30am, even packing us a breakfast box to go. Definitely a place to stay!!

The Damai, absolutely stunning and can’t wait to return to this gem of a place.

Correct it’s “hard to find, hard to leave”. Three hour spa treatment with foot ritual, four hands massage, volcanic mud body treatment, facial and flower bath, had me walking away a new person.

The Master Villa is a tranquil hideaway to soothe the soul and is a short walk or buggie ride away in a golf cart to feast on exquisite foodies delight or doorway from an infinity pool overlooking the breathtaking mountain side. It’s definitely a memorable place. Blissful!

Nice hotel but little expensive. I didnt like the fact that nothing for breakfast was included for my 1 yr old baby. Even a glass of milk was charged to me while breakfast was included for me and my wife.

The Damai is a beautiful, quiet hotel in the north of Bali. There isn't much to do in the area (the beach isn't all that), but the hotel is wonderful enough to stay there and never leave. The grounds and pool are beautifully kept. The garden villa was lovely, especially the outdoor shower. There is so much attention to detail!
We had a not so great experience in the spa- we opted for a 90 minute massage, but only got 60, and when we informed them the spa said that the 90 minutes includes having tea afterwards? We were able to get a discounted rate because of this.
We also ordered food from the restaurant at lunch time and there was no one else in the restaurant at the time. We ordered a salad and it took very long to arrive; I think about 45 minutes to an hour.
Staff was very nice, lovely hotel. Enjoyed the yoga, and breakfast very much!

The answer is Yes!

The Damai is truly a 6-star experience all the way around! The staff, the grounds and of course the villa was simply superb. You will not be disappointed in the what you see, where you sleep and how much you pay! Don't even get me started on the shower/bathroom which is completely outside/uncovered and you feel like you're in a jungle! ooooweee! The view from the restaurant/pool area is postcard worthy too... and best of all, the staff is SO friendly, fun and full of smiles.. a true 5-star attitude! Highly recommended! :)

All the staff were lovely and friendly.
If you want a nice quiet stay away from the hustle and bustle of .
Kuta/Seminyak this is the place to stay.

This hotel was gorgeous. You actually felt that someone had been there and thought about what people would want to make their lives comfortable
Every detail had been thought about. Rooms, staff, location were all top notch. I only gave it 4 stars because we felt that the services provided were overpriced. A massage was 500k whereas in town it is 100k for example. I’d expect a bit more but not that much. Other than the hiked up prices the place was amazing.

Luxury boutique villas, beautiful grounds, amazing breakfast with homemade breads, jams, lots of fruit and a selection of much more. We ate dinner at the damai twice and the setting was beautiful, tables around the pools with lights and candles set up. We had a free yoga lesson, also great and a free 30minute massage. The only downside was that the restaurant and spa were expensive, as were the trips they had to offer, however the quality of the hotel was so great that this was forgiveable!

Room was fantastic- cleaned twice a day.
Continental breakfast each morning with an incredible view was great.
Pool area was clean and always had comfy sun loungers available.
Staff were very friendly, attentive and always helpful.
Free Damai shuttle into Lovina town and back was brilliant.
The Damai Restaurant was unbelievable!
Only negative would be the high cost of the optional tours or spa treatments.

Damai hotel was very nice and relaxing in a beautiful serene setting. Drinks and food at the hotel are first class but on the expensive side for Bali. The problem with the place is there is not much to do if you are there for a several days. The town of Lovina is small and it does not offer much of shopping or great restaurants. The beach is ugly and uninviting. Hotel is the nicest place to be. If you must come to this part of the island I recommend Damai hotel. However the over all experience is underwhelming and not worth a drive from south Bali (3.5 hours) spend most of your time in Ubud where you get more of a spiritual vibe great shopping, restaurants, coffee shops temples yoga studious and interesting people to meet. Happy travels!

Hard to find hard to leave

The drive to the resort is quite difficult over the mountains and takes 3 to 4 hours. However once there, it is a little bit of paradise. The welcome is warm and friendly and the private villa was beautiful Balinese. The food was 4 to 5 stars and was good value. If you are looking for a pure Balinese holiday you will not be disappointed. We loved the staff.

Glamorous Hidden Gem - Absolutely Loved the Damai

The property is nestled in the jungle and the Villas have incredible views of nature and the ocean. The staff is incredibly kind and attentive. Hands-down, this was my best hotel stay in all of Bali, and I stayed at several top hotels. The rooms at the Damai are far better than the Ritz or the Four Seasons. They are so private, comfortable, and embody are genuinely Balinese character and warmth. The pool at the villa is the perfect size for a couple or a small family. The food is an exceptionally elegant culinary experience. The Michelin-rated chef prepares some of the most beautiful food I've ever seen and tasted. They combine local flavors with world-class favorites. The in-room dining options are also excellent, and the service is so fast. The staff are incredibly thoughtful in their approach to communicating and know how to make you feel welcome. They left us freshly baked local treats and bottles of water in our room every evening while we were at dinner. The spa was pretty great as well. They have some good treatments that you should absolutely try out. Although the prices at the Damai are not on the lower end of Bali, keep in mind you are escaping from the daily rigors of a stressful world and entering a hidden tropical heaven. We will most definitely return to the Damai on our next trip to Bali. Thank you all for providing us with such a lovely memorable experience. You are also so warm, caring, welcoming and open minded, especially about LGBT couples.

It located at the high up hills in the Northern Bali. From the Villas I stay, we get to see amazing and beautiful sea view and green scenery. It a good place for relax. Worth my 3 days stay there. Even the Villas deco is modern with some vintage look. The staff is very helpful and friendly. We will sure go back again.

Secluded luxurious gem as a bastion of tranquility

It's rare that a hotel combines luxury, design and personalised and pleasant service with such a steadfast commitment to its environment and sustainability. The Damai is the only one I know in Bali.

From the moment you arrive until you leave you're called by name. Service requests are fulfilled in the most pleasant manner. And right from the beginning you see how every detail is designed for sustainability: zero plastic, bamboo drinking straws, how the hotels recycles and reuses its excess water.

The natural setting of the hotel is gorgeous, on top of a hill surrounded by Bali's natural vegetation. The Damai rests faithful to its hilly setting and rises from it rather than built over it. It provides fewer than 20 secluded villas secluded each provided their special view, sun deck and Scandinavianesque attention to detail. Beds are comfortable, fixtures well designed and functional and everything very clean.

The hotel is not exactly in a vibrant neighbourhood and that is more reason to stay and enjoy the amenities: the best food in Bali in the most gorgeous restaurant on top of the hill by the pool, the infinity pool itself, and the out of this world massage facility and Yoga but if you're into it (you will be if you stay here!).

My only qualm is the outdoor shower in the villas which makes for a beautiful design element but also an inconvenience in a climate like Bali with curious bees buzzing around.

The best hotel in North Bali.

Pros: It is quite, luxurious, and everything you expect from a retreat. The rooms are awesome, with everything you need. This is the best hotel in North Bali, hands down. Food was superb, although menu is limited and prices are really steep even for California.

Cons: Far from everything, which wouldn't be a problem of they didn't overcharge for everything 300%. They advertised scooters, but said they didn't have any, then called again in the morning they said they did.
Bintang beer in hotel 50k for small bottle. Price down the road is 50k for 2 large ones.

Conclusion: Best hotel in North Bali, which really isn't that hard because no competition. Be prepared to pay more for what you get. I will definitely be back again.

Beautiful boutique hotel villas

Just spent 4 nights here in this beautiful idyllic place - we stayed in the pool villa and it was just stunning. Everything is beautifully presented and peaceful. Food was lovely, service is excellent and the front of house lady Eka was very welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble and as we were on honeymoon we were even given a complimentary mini spa treatment each. I would certainly recommend staying here - it is 3 hours drive from the airport but well worth the trip!

This is a gorgeous hotel. Our favorite during our entire stay in Bali. It's worth getting the garden villa with a sea view! Service here is excellent, as is the food, but cocktails and tours are overpriced. Opt for use of the motorbike and tour around yourself instead.

A lovely experience after a long day of driving

Alas we only booked this gem of a hotel for one night due to our tight travel schedule. From the minute we arrived we knew this was going to be a good experience. At check-in we were offered a free 15 minute shiatsu massage in the on-site spa which, after being shown to our room to freshen up, we both took advantage of. The grounds and pool of this hotel are very well taken care of, and due to it's hilltop location beautiful views of the sunset/ocean are in the near distance. We were very impressed with our very spacious indoor-outdoor bathroom (wc and sink indoors) (jacuzzi and shower outside). I would highly recommend this hotel for couples who don't mind being slightly off the beaten tourist path.

This was our first experience in the northern region of Bali and were unsure where to stay. We were so happy we chose the Damai. Although not located on Lovina Beach but on the hillside overlooking the bay, car shuttle down the hill road and pick up was provided free of charge and easily organised. We had a Deluxe Villa which was very spacious, elegantly decorated and extremely comfortable, especially the outdoor shower/spa. The Damai restaurant food and service was the best I have had in Bali and for that matter in a lot of other countries also. We did intend to only have one meal in the restaurant but ended up eating there most nights. The staff were amazing and could not do enough for you. Our Butler \"Effie\" went out of her way to give us a wonderful experience in the township of Singaraja. A stay at the Damai is one of those experiences you will remember and always want to revisit, I know I certainly will go back. A few days here and all the worries of the world will melt away.

Such a beautiful venue, that celebrates the old traditional way of Balinese buildings while not missing out on any comfort at all. The location is just amazing settled in the jungle right above Lovina and not as cold as in Munduk. We had an amazing stay and staff was super friendly, welcoming and helpful. Even living in Bali, it was a little holiday get-away and showed me new spots on the island. Will definitely come back.

The Damai est tout simplement un havre de paix. L'endroit est particulièrement soigné et offre une biodiversié exceptionnelle. Nous avons séjourné dans une villa avec piscine privée entourée par la beauté de la nature. Nous avons également dîné au restaurant de l'hôtel qui propose une cuisine fine et gouteuse. Le personnel est aux petits soins, présent mais en toute discretion.

The sunset view is simply amazing, the pool nice and refreshing (but not cold!) and the dinner in the pool area with a bonfire was so romantic.
Thanks to The Damai, making our stay an unforgettable memory!!!

Smuk og rolig beliggenhed

Virkelig smuk beliggenhed med udsigt til havet og frodig natur omkring. Personalet var meget opmærksomme og serviceminded. Gratis transport til/fra Lovina, som vi brugte nogle gange. Hotellet er lille, så man skal til Lovina for at få stemning. Priserne på hotellets restaurant og spa er en del højere end i området, så vi benyttede det ikke særligt meget. Stedet er perfekt hvis man ønsker nogle rolige dage.

5-star AMAZING

We travel a lot - really a lot, but don't write so many reviews because we are often just really satisfied with our stay. But this time we're just forced to do it, because it far surpasses any other hotel we've visited anywhere.

We visited TheDamai quite a few years ago and loved it, and now that we visited Bali again we were a bit doubtful whether we should visit it again, because the price seemed a bit low and we were afraid that the quality had deteriorated since the last time - but it certainly wasn't - on the contrary, this was AMAZING.

On our Bali tour we visited 4 other 5-star hotels and TheDamai beats them all, both as a total experience and on every single element. The Damai is only registered as 4-star, but it is a definite 5-star experience. The other 5-star hotels we stayed at were between 4 to 6 times more expensive than TheDamai and it should definitely be the other way around.
The welcome was much more warm and welcome and the welcome drink was super delicious and not just something you get.
The hotel area was large (and not full of villas) and the garden was private and really nicely done.
The room was cozy and oozed quality for every small detail - if you go up a level and choose a pool villa, you also get a fantastic view over the valley and the sea, and a real pool you can swim in (and not just a small pool that can make you wet as at most other hotels we visited).
The food was a whole chapter by itself and we understood that the entire menu was created

Perect for honeymooners and foodies

Top class, 5 star experience! This hotel is peaceful and tranquil, far away from tourist and flashing lights.
A bit of a drive from the main areas of Bali and the airport, but the drive is magnificent and the whole tour is an adventure in itself.

The hotel itself is a miniature botanical garden, kept to perfection. They even cut the grass by hand, to disturb as little as possible.

The main area has a big pool with amazing views overlooking the ocean and the mountains.

The villas are luxurious with all you need, and the most amazing professional spa products in the shower.
Water is bottled for you everyday on glass bottles and fresh fruit and flowers decorate the rooms.
Afternoon they turn down the rooms and leave a lovely little sweet snack.

The restaurant is a whole chapter for itself.
International high level with local quality seasonal ingredients.
The dining are fine dining, even though the guest sadly are very casual in shorts and flip-flop. Please dress up if you go, the restaurant deserves it.
The food is French cooking style but with Balinese ingredients and flavors.
Many of the main dishes are to be found in the world famous cookbook - My Bali kitchen, by the former danish head chef Per Thøstesen.

The breakfast is by menus and the best bred you’ll ever find in Bali.

The only downside is that the staff tries a little too hard to sell you extra all the time. We just wished to be relaxed at all time, and not disturbed.

The hotel was very quiet. It was suitable for the people who want to be very quiet. However, the service for this hitel very great.If you want to watch dolphins, only take 10 minutes drive to the beach where very close.

Vi havde fire rigtig fantastiske dage i meget gode omgivelser. Personalet var fantastisk serviceminded , og forsøgte fra dag 1 at huske vores navne. Derudover er omgivelserne perfekte til en bryllupsrejse. Der er masser af luksus og tilpas privatliv
