1st let me be honest. The photos and description online left me in doubt if I should book this place. But I have rarely seen a hotel get such high rating from so many reviews..so out of curiosity decided to take a chance and I am so glad I did. We stayed at one of the 2 bedroom villa with pool and it was amazing. The property grounds are beautifully layed out then found out the story that it started as a personal property of renowned architect.. it is one of the most serene and beautiful place we have evey stayed. The staff is very good and really took good care. Its close to Ubud downtown yet breaks away from the hustle bustle of the town. The amenities provided are beyond par. Would definitely recommed and revisit for a stay in the future.

We had the most magical stay. Even after we checkout out we decided to forgo our other reservation and check back in. The staff is incredible! They are all on a groups WhatsApp and are more than accommodating. The grounds are magical but what makes this place so special are the people and the experiences they offer. We took a cooking class, had massages, enjoyed the gym, a photo session with professional photographer and the food was incredible. We also watched the local dance and dinner show. What a stay!!!

Exclusive time in Ubud

The hotel was stylish and well thought out down to the smallest detail, as the owner is an architect. There are only 20 rooms on the large property, which made for a relaxing stay. The staff are all friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again!

I cannot say enough about this property. Whatever your expectations are, they will be surpassed.
My villa was upgraded to one with a private pool. There are only 20 villas on the entire compound, so the privacy is unparalleled.
It is immaculately spotless, with an inclusive mini bar (with adult drinks) fruit everyday in the room, and brekky included. On my last day at breakfast I told Edi how much I adore snake fruit when he brought my fruit bowl. At the end of my meal, he brought out a full container of them to take with me.
The property is enormous, and filled with statues, ponds, pools, rice paddies. There are swans you can feed, and so many covered areas to just lounge and relax.
Do not miss this place. With the beautiful chaos of Ubud, it’s spectacular to return to this peaceful oasis at the end of the day.

There is nothing left to expect! Just when you thought that you experienced the pinnacle of grace and hospitality… there was just a little bit more from this remarkable property. Our second visit here and we couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else in Ubud. It’s moments to town and yet seems like it’s in the middle of nowhere. Peaceful, gracious and delicious.

It’s honestly what you were hoping your Bali trip would be. It’s all right here.

While comfortable, to me, the room looked tired and definitely way past its prime. It was not particularly clean and had green mold in the water tank of the coffee maker. The staff really tried to provide excellent service but in my opinion lacked the training required for a 5 star experience. For a property of its size, I thought it was understaffed and many of the details I usually experience at this price were absent. The food and drinks were moderately expensive as would be expected at a 5-star facility but, I found the food to be mediocre. There were some great restaurants in town. Overall the whole experience was like a cruise ship. At almost $700 per day including food and drink charges it definitely was not worth it to me. It was still an ok trip if you are not budget conscious.They were unable to provide NONE of the VIP hotel.com gold member benefits including guaranteed late check out. I am not sure why that was promised on the site. For me, they over promised and under delivered.

Boutique Resort with Extraordinary Service

Only 20 villas spread over large property with gardens, ponds, rice paddies, large common pool that never had more than 1-2 other people there (though we had our own villa pool), and spa. Each villa has original art collection from owner. It's luxury with local flavor.

The service is extraordinary... there's complimentary afternoon tea every day; we asked for local treats and drinks (off menu) and they obliged with different items every day of our 5 day stay. Most of the staff have worked at this property for years and there's obvious pride about this place.

I've stayed at Four Seasons Sayan and Jimbaran Bay -- Tanah Gajah wins by a mile. We traveled with our young adult son in a 2-bedroom 3,000+ sf villa -- the price was better than a one-bedroom villa at comparable international chains -- but the experience was better. You feel secluded but every available service (meals, afternoon tea, car ride to Ubud town, laundry, etc) is just a WhatsApp away (the reception desk put us on group chat with several staff members... every request was answered promptly... just blew me away...)

The property is lovely and a great location to be in to just relax and unwind. The paddy fields look loverly and the restaurant overlooking the fields were fantastic sight to dine off.
We had a personal buttler who was very attentive, quick and humble. The entire staff knew about us since there are only 20 villas and by the end of our stay we had met most of them.
The resort provides private car shuttle round trip to go to ubud centers. The drivers are fun to talk to as well and extremely humble and honest.
The breakfast and the afternoon tea with snacks were refreshing.
Overall if you want a relaxing experience and down to earth and caring staff then this is the place to be!! We were greeted by the Resort GM, manager and the chef as well which made it all the more personalized experience.

We stayed three nights here. Check-in process was confusing and not seamless. Staff did not accommodate food allergies at restaurants well. We always had to remind them and explain to them what \"no dairy\" meant. Restaurant mediocre at best. Bathroom facilities, flooded, no toilet paper, clogged, and nothing to wash your hands with - unacceptable for a 5 star property. Butler however, was wonderful, as were cocktail hour, and the room itself was beautiful. Laundry service was also a nice touch. Restaurant staff, really needs work. For the price you pay - you can get far better food, service, and staff that understands you in Ubud area. Would not go back. We were very disappointed. We had better times, food, etc. for a 1/3 of the price at other 5 star properties in Bali.

We had high expectations reading reviews, but nothing could have prepared us for how completely in love we have fallen with Chedi Club! The grounds are beautiful, rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the pool!!! Service is incredible, everyone is so warm and friendly and will do anything for you. Food is fantastic too! Food and drinks are expensive, but given there are so many inclusions (amazing breakfast, afternoon tea, laundry service, mini bar) and everything is so amazing, we didn't begrudge paying those prices at all. I have never felt so relaxed, and will be booking asap to go back next year, and for a bit longer. I think this will become an annual trip for us, and despite all the travel we have done, this is the first time ever we have found 'our place' that we want to return to again and again.

The hotel is great, few villas lost in a wonderful very quiet garden. The staff was helpful and nice. The atmosphere was really relaxing. A special mention goes to the restaurant with refined dishes, a wonderful view, and a very very attentive staff.

As Ubud is submitting to mass tourism, it was quite difficult to find authentic places. We would have appreciate more help / guidance from the hotel on the best way to enjoy the city.

The Chedi Club Tanah Gajah in Ubud was even prettier then the pictures posted on the website. Our room was well appointed and spacious. The service couldn't have been more attentive and the food and drinks were wonderful. We visited the spa and had one of the best massages we've ever had! The most spectacular place I’ve stayed

This hotel is truly spectacular. First, the hotel grounds are amazing — beautifully designed and landscaped. It’s truly breathtaking. The same goes for the villas. You feel like you are in a special place wherever you are on the property. Second, the hotel is extremely intimate. There are only 20 villas so the property never feels over saturated with guests. I did not stay in a villa with a private pool so I used the main pool and never had to compete with guests for space. There were multiple points during my four night stay where I had the pool to myself. The third highlight of the Chedi Club is all the included extras — a beautiful (and filling) breakfast each morning comes with the room (juices, smoothies, yogurts, fruits, pastries, and then your main breakfast course) as well as a complimentary afternoon tea with tea cakes (which you can have anywhere on the property including at the pool or your room), and the complimentary happy hour from 6-7, which includes amazing cocktails and wines (and you aren’t limited to just one glass!). Other nice touches are free morning yoga, free laundry each day (six pieces per guest), free shuttle services to Ubud (the hotel provides you with a cell phone so you can call the driver when you are ready to be picked up), and your on-call butler who can assist you with any questions or needs you may during the stay like making reservations for tours, restaurants, etc. Finally, the staff was incredible.

Our stay here was fantastic, we booked a private pool villa and were blown away by the comfort, amenities and views it provided. Nestled in the middle of a rice paddy and with only 20 villas on the entire property, it felt like we had the entire place to ourselves despite staff telling us they were 80% full. The \"Free included breakfast\" is a huge understatement, as this isn't some cheap breakfast buffet but a proper, full service meal including a starter of fresh fruit, and a bread basket, in addition to a large choice of main courses to choose from (both western and Indonesian options); we found ourselves looking forward to breakfast every day of our stay. The hotel grounds absolutely gorgeous, as the entire place is effectively an art museum, simply walking around the resort is a delightful experience.

Everyone very friendly to our 2 1/2 yo daughter. The hotel general manager and head chef were a regular presence and kind the hotel. Food by chef Dean was the best I have eaten in a hotel in SE Asia.

The Chedi Club Tanah Gajah is on the edge of Ubud. The 20 villas are set on a beautiful and natural site with rice paddys, birds and a well manicured site. The service of the dedicated butler is fantastic and the meals and entertainment are wonderful. There are no additional costs sneaking onto your bill as the mini-bar is free and always stocked! The breakfast is delicious with any add-ons you would like just for the asking. The 5-10 minute shuttle into town is always available and they provide a cell phone for you to contact them for a return trip. It is truly a 5 Star hotel as it meets all of the quality and service requirements, but puts itself ahead of nearly every other 5 star by providing an attentive and personal touch to that service.

A great place to chill for a few days

We copy here under the message we have written to the management of The Chedi which reflects our thoughts and sentiments.

When we planned for our 35th anniversary, our goal was to Eat, Love and Pray! With these pre-requisites in mind, Ubud in Bali was a natural choice and in Chedi Club, Tanah Gajah we hit pay dirt!!

What an amazing experience. From the moment we entered the idyllic property and were warmly received not only at the reception desk but by the GM himself, we knew we were in for something special. The property located in the midst of paddy fields was completely novel to us. Enjoying our sundowners while watching the magnificent sunset across the paddy fields is truly something we will cherish.

What also took us by surprise were the host of free amenities which were not known to us when we made the booking. In the room were carafes of premium spirits and a well equipped kitchenette with varieties of tea and coffee. We also had free laundry and transport service available to take us to town whenever neseccary. The innovative cocktails served during happy hour certainly made us smile. We took advantage of the free morning yoga class which was well conducted by a young and committed yoga master.

Simply the best!

This was one of the most amazing properties we have ever stayed at. The service, cleanliness, amenities, property, food, pool and spa were all out of this world. It was our honeymoon and they went to every effort to make each experience and evening a memorable one. Our Butler Putra took us for a fantastic walk through the rice fields and local village and Executive Chef Dean puts on an incredible and hands on cooking class. This property is worth every minute and dollar, we will never forget it and hope to be back!

Great hotel to recharge & leisurely discover Bali

Stayed in this hotel from April 1 to 5, 2015.

More than the facilities, it was the genuine hospitality and attention of the whole hotel team (specially Mr. Jiwa) that made our family vacation such a memorable one. Yes, there were some minor kinks like one aircon malfunctioning, but this was addressed quickly. We find the food served in the hotel excellent. The Spa service wer also very good. The place is peaceful, a welcome treat for urban warriors, yet have a bit of fun for kids. (Would be even better if the hotel can include an entertainment room for 10 to 15 years old in the future.) great internet connection, by the way.

If you want to recharge, relax yet leisurely discover Bali and it's beautiful culture, then The Chedi Club Tanah Gajah is an excellent option.

We received warm welcome by the hotel staff and manager upon our arrival. We arrived early before check in and they kept our luggage and had them delivered to our room when we got back after our tour. Daily breakfast cooked to order and the afternoon tea were delicious! Lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds. Staff exceptional and food excellent. How nice is is to have breakfast watching the planting in the rice fields. The only thing I wish there had been normal comfortable seating whilst having a drink before dinner, only full length loungers,in the main dining area. Only short distance to centre of Ubud with the very helpful shuttle service.

Sumptuous Retreat from Busy Ubud

The Chedi Club at Tanah Gajah is an exceptional hotel -- originally built as a family retreat by an architect / designer from Jakarta, it has been converted into a 20 room villa compound. The setting with myriad, diverse plants, and elephant sculptures all around is unusual and beautiful. The Balinese \"hut\" where you dine and look out over the rice paddies and the waddling ducks is sublime. Service is a 10 out of 10. You are always greeted by a smile and by name. This gets my top recommendation and should be considered by anyone traveling to Ubud.

Chedi Club was absolute bliss. From our wifi enabled transfer from Jimbaran to our departure to seminyak, we could not have been more impressed. Not only was our butler Putra very helpful, but every other staff member took the time to ensure we were well cared for and immediately executed any requests (drinks, tours, reservations, taxi). The room was beautiful with a comfortable outdoor shower and tub. We enjoyed strolling the scenic grounds and taking in the sunsets from the restaurant atop the rice fields. All in all a great experience; they went the extra mile to make our honeymoon special.

I spent a week at The Chedi Club, Ubud. As this was my first trip to Asia and traveling alone, I really needed transportation to/from the airport. I heard horror stories of taxi experiences and that the airport was a bit hectic. My brief experience there was accurate and along came my driver who knew a lot about the area while we made the hour long trip to the resort. I felt a great sense of security with the security guard and gate at the entrance. The resort is very quiet and provides a sense that nothing else is around and yet there is a busy town right outside. The accommodations were spotless each day I was there and many items are included in the stay such as minibar, snacks, fresh organic fruit, robe, slippers, you name it. My room was the perfect size and as I lucked out with perfect weather. The bathroom was amazing, it's actually outdoors. Beautiful tub and toiletries and strong hair dryer which is rare in hotels. There is an infinity pool and because there are only 21 villas total, there was never a crowd at the pool. Fresh water is brought out with sunscreen. It really was these added touches that made the experience even better. I participated in a cooking class, almost all spa treatments, a traditional Balinese dance and dinner and even rice trekking. I loved the fact that many of the activities I wanted to do was right on property and reasonably priced. Staff is awesome and I couldn't have asked for a better place. One of the best vacations ever experienced.

A treasure set in the rice fields

This was our third stay at the Chedi Club and we were not disappointed. From the efficient transfer, to the friendly welcome, our eager butler, Kedak, the food and the beautiful tranquil environment, this a place to which it is a pleasure to return and a wrench to leave. Highly recommended.

A stay of stress liberation and warm hospitality

The tranquil and cultural setting of the resort brought mind to state of ease and care free sensation. The smile and warm hospitality is 2nd to none. Perfect hideaway

Everything was just perfect...the service, attention to details, the beautiful surroundings. This is a perfect place for anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Yet, The Chedi is close enough to Ubud centre. There was the complimentary shuttle into Ubud as well as the provision of a mobile phone to call the hotel for the shuttle pick up back to the hotel. Overall, this was a really good break in a lovely area surrounded by padi fields. And one last thing, the bircher muesli served at breakfast was simply delicious.
