It was lovely to wake to a sea view after our late flight. Unfortunately there were some youths who wanted to make a fair bit of noise, some on motorbikes, which woke me several times. Breakfast had lots of choice and was tasty. Unfortunately no lunch. Surroundings are in many places old and photogenic, the Venetian wall something special

Lovely hotel - Wondeful reception staff

Check in was really good, two staff members were very helpful, cheery and smiled. Rooms are very clean, beds are amazing, lovely shower.
Breakfast was excellent and great to be able to take breakfast at 7am before leaving for Port. Staff helpful with travel questions and arranging taxi. Also helped with laundry cleaning and providing the service for cheap €12. Amazing staff member on check out, same as check in, greeted with a smile and very helpful arranging a taxi to Port.

After that it was downhill.

There was an extremely noisy party going on of 50 teenagers plus another of 25 young adults. Slamming doors, loud laughter in the halls. Knocks on my door, pounding on the walls…
They were on all floors.

I asked three different people if I could keep excess luggage in their storage until my return on Friday from Rhodes and I was told that both Linda and I could do it with no problem.
Yet, after packing for the four days in Rhodes carefully in other cases, I was told by the clerk at the desk that 5am morning of departure,I could not.

Why was t I told before? Earlier?

It was terribly upsetting having to completely repack moments befor getting into my cab.

It's ok - it's nothing fancy, not so comfortable

It was ok for one night stay. The place feels shabbier in reality than on the pictures. The lobby had a strange odor and the bed was rather a small double bed (1.40m) and the room smaller than expected. Nevertheless, it was ok for one night stay, good location, 24 hours reception, good breakfast (much better than what we've expected), and quite clean. We paid a very good price so it was a very good value for money for this stay.

For the price and comfort, this hotel was a great stay. Rooms are cozy and comfortable. The rooftop restaurant is lovely and has great views. The only negatives about the hotel are the location is not ideal if you are looking to walk into the city or the port and the parking is offsite. Other than that, lovely staff and stay for a great price.

Incredibly polite and professional staff, and well situated in Heraklion. The room floor could have been cleaner as we noticed dust and grains. Another thing to note is that you can hear much of the traffic outside so if you can’t handle noise, do consider a hotel in a quiet spot.

Late at the night we stayed, we ordered food in the hotel's restaurant. It took them over an hour to serve although the place was almost empty late at night and despite our reminders. No excuses given. No apology. No compensation. We complained at the desk but nothing happened.

We loved the rooms here. We found they were roomy and modern. The showers were excellent and the bed was very comfortable. The front desk was very helpful with all of our questions. The breakfast was delicious and view from the restaurant was beautiful. It is a short walk from the city centre and about 7 euros from the Port by taxi.

Awesome Time in Heraklion

The staff was amazing. The overall stay was amazing. I had to move rooms because of the refrigerator started to leak and the bed in the new room was not as comfortable. Only thing I would say is that I had paid for and requested sea view and the view was less than what was expected. I had a view of the wall that just over the wall was the sea. Not what I had paid for. Would absolutely stay here again though if I ever get a chance to come back!

Easy check in, the free parking was not close. I was able to find street parking a few steps from the hotel. The location was excellent and was an easy walk to the pedestrian zone. Decent breakfast, but the wine at dinner was very bad and smelt like rubbing alcohol. The waiter just said it was fine. :(

Nice hotel in good location with good transport links. Decor a bit tired and dated in places but we found it very clean and comfortable. The staff really made the difference though - excellent service throughout. The reception staff, restaurant team and cleaners we encountered all went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible and to create a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. Would definitely recommend on that basis alone.

I've booked double bed and we were sent to two single beds room, after objecting we were given the double bed room as originally booked. The room is certainly not deluxe, it was very basic and needs refurbishment. The parking was 15 min away so if you have heavy bags you'll need to take them to hotel first than park the car. The receptionist said we need to leave parking at 12pm on the check out day, though in the parking they allowed us to stay until the afternoon without extra charge.
It's Ok for a night or two but wouldn't stay here much longer.

Nice hotel with everything I needed nearby.

The hotel has a taxi station and a bus station next to it to take you anywhere in Crete (You can save and avoid renting a car)!

It has a pharmacy next door and clinic (for any emergency), the hotel itself has a restaurant and breakfast, but outside there are a lot of cafes and restaurants open late hours.

A historic monument can be seen from balconies... The top floor and restaurant has great views and the location is perfect. Very safe neighborhood (busy at times).

Great generous staff.. generous in terms of how they treated me (always kind, never rude), providing information about things to do and local customs, and being very friendly and respectful at all times.

Room was always clean and toiletries resupplied on a daily basis.

I am very satisfied and I am sure you will too if this is your first time to Heraklion or your first of many visits.

In good location, but very noisy outside

We stayed for one night at the Castello City hotel and found it was in a good location, within walking distance of the town center. It's comfortable and clean with all the basics covered. The breakfast was good with decent choice, and the breakfast lounge had a nice view overlooking the town. The WIFI was free, but had to be used in the breakfast room as it wasn't very good signal in the room we had.

However, the main issues were the bed was ridiculously hard, like sleeping on a wooden board, and the pillow was very thin like paper, even thinner than my balding hair. In addition, the noise from the street outside was very intrusive, with loud mopeds going past. So wasn't a particularly good night's sleep.

Avoid the courtyard rooms

I stayed in a courtyard room. The first room I got had a strong smell of cigarette smoke. After appealing to the reception I was immediately given another room. It had no smell but left an unpleasant impression.
The room was not very clean, there was some kind of mold on one wall that was painted over. There was not enough daylight due to courtyard location.
The main disadvantage was air conditioning and ventilation.
The courtyard is extremely small and therefore it works as a one big air duct for some kind of open kitchen located on the ground floor (maybe not a kitchen but the smell strongly resembles one). All the air conditioning units are also situated there, on the balconies, which makes the air in the yard always hot. I was totally unable to air the room with this hot smelly air outside. Also, the conditioning fans produce strong noise so that it's hard to keep the balcony open.

The air conditioner left a really bad smell in the air. It definitely needs a filter replacement. Moreover, its flow was aimed directly onto the bed, so one can not sleep with it turned on.

After such an unpleasant impression I asked for a room upgrade. Unfortunately, the hotel was fully booked at the moment, but in two days I moved into dramatically better room with city view (for an extra fee, of course).

The only reason why I've booked a courtyard room was to avoid noise from the busy streets. But in turned out that it's not a problem at all since the balcony doors are 100% soundproof.

Great rooftop bar/restaurant but not in the centre

The hotel does need renovating, especially the rooms but it's still a great place to stay. The rooftop restaurant and bar is superb with great views. The staff were also great particularly the guy in the restaurant. The hotel is not in the main centre of the city. It's about a 15 minute walk to the Venetian fort and harbour but there is a taxi station right opposite the hotel.

Great location, staff was exremely helpful, but the room itself did not have a window, only a small door to fals balcony to internal concrete tube about 2 meters away and garbage bins below. Was dark all the time, needed to light on to see a bit..

We arrived at this hotel very late night and only spent one night, but we were happy to be there.
A little bit far from the airport and port, close to a bus station. The staff were helpful.
The breakfast was excellent! They provided array of local food, a lot and so good!!
It is located on the top floor of the hotel, so we can enjoy our breakfast and have a great view of the sea at the same time.

Cost effective business trip to Heraklion, Crete.

Perfect cost saving business trip. Room small, but very clean with all essentials. Air conditioner great. Bathroom small, but all you need. Wet-soap-rinse in the shower got the job done. Breakfast buffet: a full, healthy breakfast and lots of great coffee. Piece of fresh fruit from breakfast made a perfect lunch. Light, healthy, inexpensive dinner kept trip cost and waistline in check. Free parking garage eliminates the chance of scratch damage. Garage is 1.5 blocks from hotel. Parking anywhere in Heraklion a pain and expensive. Damage to parked rental vehicle runs up your trip cost fast. Wi Fi fast and reliable. Laundry service fast and value priced--a huge savings over other hotels and huge convenience. The top floor terrace served as my office with a great view of the sea—bar for drinks and a good lunch and dinner are served. The staff at the hotel is superb--just can't say enough about the great folks at this hotel. Hotel a short walk from city center and museum. Relaxing to watch people and have good food. Lots of shopping. Some hotel noises that did not bother me. I needed to cut costs on a two-week business trip to Heraklion, Crete, and the Hotel Castello allowed that to happen. I will definitely go back for the price--and especially for the staff-- all made me feel right at home and very welcome. Their larger, nicer rooms can be a bargain too. Thanks Hotel Castello for meeting all my needs. See you next trip.

Very good hotel close to many local sights. Staff in this hotel are excellent and always willing to help. We stayed in this hotel on two separate nights on each end of some local travelling in the area. Beds are firm, rooms are clean. Bathrooms are a good size however showers are small. Buffet breakfast was included with our booking and provided some excellent choices. City bus service stops across the street and provides access to anywhere in the city. Hotel is approximately a 10-15 minute walk to many of the museums, shopping and local restaurants. Street side has great views but somewhat noisier than the other side of the hotel.

Good for a short stay

Our family went on vacation to Crete, and we decided we'd take a short trip to Iraklion and therefore needed some place to stay. The Castello City Hotel was close to the city center, just outside the old city wall - we were just about 10 minutes walk away from the places we wanted to go (15 minutes or so from the archaeological museum).
The room was clean and in good shape, not too worn down. The fridge didn't work, and the tub/shower faucet decided it would send wated out both exits at once - there weren't important issues for us so we only noticed it late in our short stay and reported it when we checked out to leave.
Since we were 4 in our room, the hotel had put in an extra bad - the mattress was so thin and hard that our youngest child had problems sleeping in it.

Despite these fairly minor issues, we'd not hesitate to book here again next time we need a hotel in Iraklio if it's just for a few days. If we're staying for 1-2 weeks we'll probably look elsewhere.

The rooms are a decent size with an effective air -con unit. The staff were very friendly and the roof top restaurant served a delicious breakfast. The hotel is in a good location and I will definitely recommend to others.

Goof enough for a one night stay

It is certainly not a 3 star hotel
My bathroom was extremely small just enough space to accommodate a very small shower area

Nice choice for pre-cruise

We booked this hotel for a night before departing on a cruise. Although not exactly in the center, the location was easy walking distance to all the places a person needs to see in Heraklion. The roof-top restaurant and bar provides a great view, and the property is just across the street from a bus stop, so you can avoid the more expensive taxis.

Bad bathroom

Comfy rooms, nice breakfast and friendly staff. My problem was the bathroom. The tiniest shower I couldn't even turn around in. Awful shower curtain that sticks to you-it's that small and leaves the bathroom soaking.

Overall excellent experience and quite centrally located. I would recommend and I would stay there again! Wi-fi service quite fast which for working travellers is often a must.

Nice view and small lift

Basically, I like this hotel. The nice location, good view from the roof bar. I found the smallest lift for all of my life. (For 3persons maximum)

Bed were horrible ..Broken wooden slats An easy fix but not done Poor maintenance

Tired rooms, lack of restaurant and room service

I chose it for the location as I needed to be a clinic about 10 minutes walk away. My room faced the front of the hotel and the noise of traffic kept me awake until 4 a.m, so guests should request a room at the rear.

Unfortunately as it was October the restaurant was closed for evening meals for the winter (why is the hotel making a feature of the restaurantwhen it is only open for breakfast?) The hotel should state that the hotel cannot offer lunch or evening dinner during the winter. The first time I stayed there the resturant evening meal, which was delightful, meant that I did not have to trudge around the roads to find a place to eat. Thinking that it would be open throughout the year I booked in again last week. The result was that my friend and I walked endlessly looking for a place to eat in the evening, only to find those awful little kebab shops with the doner kebab and overcooked souvlaki on the menu. For this reason I wouldn't stay there again, but choose somewhere closer to the old harbour, which does have a couple of nice little tavernas that stay open in winter #Winter usually is from October to April in Crete).

Apart from that I cannot emphasise how helpful the staff are. They made up for the rather stark room with a very small bathroom which definitely needed updating. The hotel also advertises not only a restaurant for evening dining, but room service too. This was also unavailable.
