Location was unbeatable! Property itself was ok. Bathroom was very small and some parts need better cleaning. Floor seemed hollow underneath and that made it feel like a cheap building. Large mini fridge was great and the air conditioning was great to have. Would probably stay there again due to location alone.

We arrived after and left before the office was open, so we didn't get to talk to anyone, but the late check-in process was well-explained and simple. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Showers were fantastic, though towels shed quite a bit of fuzz. So fun to wake up to that view!

Equivalent to section 8 housing in the form of a motel. To begin with we entered the room and it is decorated in 2nd or 3rd hand 90s/80s dinged up furniture and cheap crappy upgrades if there were any upgrades done since the 90s and some not done since the 80s and 70s. Ok it's not a 5star hotel so not a huge deal. Immediately upon entering the A/c was obviously broken. This is the badlands it is not cool. Maintenance informed us they told the owner/property manager several units needed to be replaced prior to our stay. They couldn't replace it until the next day and gave us a fan to use. When they came to replace it they left our room open and unattended all day with our personal belongings in the room. So we had the unwelcome addition of bugs to share our room with. When finished they left our door unlocked with all of our stuff in there. The bathroom smelled of mold so bad my husband became sick. T.v. wouldn't work and we were told there was nothing they could do about it. So our option was to stare at the wall during our downtime. Only 1 vehicle per room which isn't listed when booking and was an inconvienece. Porch lights weren't working. It is pitch black at night so lights are needed to see even your own hand in front of your face. In addition to all that their store charges more than lowest marked price which is very illegal. Example of prices, Milk $8 a gallon. Case of water $15. 3lbs of ice $3. All around it wasn't a good experience at all.

The hotel is very close to the park for night skies programming. Beds were very comfortable and everything was clean. Excellent choice for our needs. Just to note: the threshold to the room is a good size step. Someone with mobility issues might have a problem. Once in a room the shower threshold was very small. We enjoyed our stay.

The location is everything with this one! Beautiful views! Staff was friendly at check in. Rooms are very dated. Beds weren’t very comfy. The room appeared mostly clean. Had great water pressure for shower but overall the tub surround/shower didn’t seem stable….had a dip in tub that didn’t seem safe to step on and my husband noticed the tub was cracked in several places.
Rooms aren’t modern or perfect but the views make up for it. The Wagon Wheel Pizza and Grill down the road was very good!

I had a screw-up with Hotels.com and was double booked for a one-night stay. I wasn’t able to cancel one of the reservations nor was I able to receive a refund. That being said, the ladies at the Badlands Hotel worked with me in this situation. I ended up staying an extra night and they kept me in the same room. They were so gracious and helpful. It all worked out and I got to explore the Badlands at a meandering pace. Five stars to the staff of Badlands Hotel and Campground. And the facilities have laundry which is great.

The good location to Badlands NP and well equipped facilities inside the room, especially the bigger TV set. But the sound insulation of the room is quite poor that several nights the next roommates snoring made me sleepless. The door between the two rooms inside seems not necessary, which is the main source of snoring coming from the next cabin. Close it and block the snoring noise coming from the next cabin!

Don’t let the outside fool you because when we opened the door we were quite surprised. Great to place to watch both the sunrise and sunset in the Badlands. Quiet and relaxing. The best hotel we’ve stayed at on our roadtrip. When we come back to the Badlands this is where we will stay hands down. Love the area!!!!

Needs maintenance. Sink facet moved when water turned on. Flooring on bathroom floor pulling up. Worst part was that all of the towels in our room were filthy dirty (visible dirt and filth). Cannot recommend this property.
I reported issues to staff via phone and did not get a response. Location great - but that’s all that I can highlight as positive.

They have a long waiver list that they don't tell you about prior with many hidden fees. You're expected to clean the room even if it was already dirty or fees apply. No staff was available when I arrived or checked out and they didn't tell us that we'd have to find a piece of paper attached to the building in the dark to be able to get into our room with a code. Very confusing, no hair dryer in the room, dirty in general, and no staff.

I stayed in a town called Institute, SD. Had two bars and a gas station. Was right outside the trailhead to a section of the bad lands. Was a great time and my room did everything I wanted. Beautiful sunsets and rises.

Wonderful surprise for a terrific price! They even moved a microwave into the room for us. Splendid location. Only complaint is the loud bathroom fan connected to the light fixture. And too bad no breakfast service the mornings we were there but that's why we got a microwave. Fabulous views all around.

Location was great for accessing Badlands National Park, but we had no notice that dining was closed off-season. Only options in Interior are bars that did allow kids but weren't the most family friendly. There was a blood stain on the comforter, the room smelled of a nauseatingly strong cleaner, bathroom sink was a dribble of water and our shower would not turn on at all. Wifi and satellite tv service only worked in 10 minute increments without needing a restart. Maybe to be expected for being so remote, but was annoying after a long travel day. Staff only available 9am-5pm. We left a day early and went up to Rapid City instead.

The staff was very friendly, the location was really close to the Badlands, the overall space was large (though the shower space was small), and the beds were comfortable. I had a problem with many flies, a wasp, and a spider in the room, even though I was quick to enter and exit. The room could also use a microwave but does have a refrigerator.

We checked into the hotel and upon getting to our room discovered that it did not look like the room that we expected based on our reservatiin. We found dried food on the duvet, and a large dark and discolored area in the bathroom on the trim below the shower. Not feeling comfortable with staying for the night we immediately returned to the office to check out and get a refund for our stay. When we were finally contacted back by management we were told that the room was perfectly acceptable. We were also told that the rooms will be undergoing updates and that the bathroom is going to be painted and that the black discoloration we saw was old paint and not anything dangerous. We are not unreasonable people, just expect to get a good comfortable night stay for our money. This issue was not resolved for us.We ended the call feeling disrespected and did not receive a reund or our trouble. I must note that the woman we dealt with at the desk was very kind to us throughout the situation. Also the campground area appeared to be well-kept and maintained.

Love the motel vibe where you can walk just steps to your car to unload…ground floor. When we headed out to Mt Rushmore the next day we then drove through the park drive to the West side and saw all the sites.

Black mold on bathroom wall next to mirror. Floor had multiple soft spots. Comforters were either dirty or stained. The room smelled moldy. The pool was closed. Part of the sidewall caved in. It still had water in it and it was gross stinky water. The service was okay but the hotel is in desperate need of repair/renovations.

Combo motel and campground, that is super convenient just outside the southern gate of Badlands National Park. Was a 2-minute drive into park for \"campfire\" program. The rooms were clean and nice. There is a \"camp store\" in the office for essentials. Several food-serving bars nearby in Interior, SD.
