Room is clean staff is friendly and helpful. The only bad point is there is no place to hang your clothes when yiu shower. They have the retractable string for hanging at the corner but u have to be very careful when u shower in case u wet your clean clothes. Its near to the shower head. Otherwise, all good for this hotel. Location is also near the MTR and Shanghai train station. Very convenient place to stay.

We had a really nice stay at the Holiday Inn situated at Jing’an. The room was v generously sized and there was a little couch or sitting area. The hotel very kindly prepared a birthday cake and gifted a bottle of wine for my mum’s birthday. The laundry facilities were also excellent and super convenient. The location of the hotel was ideal for us as we were travelling to/from Shanghai train station and the station was in easy walking distance (even with luggage)! The one improvement that the hotel could work on is better training for the front desk staff - All other staff was super kind and helpful (including the security guards) but the front desk staff were quite dismissive when we were checking in or when we had questions on directions etc.

The hotel has been renovated and the rooms are new and clean. 8 minutes walk to Shanghai Railway Station and Metro line 3 & 4. There is a complex across from the hotel with several restaurants and a 7Eleven on the way to the train station. Though it is not located near any attractions, you can easily Didi (Chinese Uber) to these areas under USD$5. What stood out was its customer service. The hotel staffs were friendly, helpful, and courteous. In particular, a huge shout-out to Operation Supervisor Leo Wang, who went out of her way to assist us in an online purchase. We needed to purchase a pharmaceutical product from Beijing and as foreign visitors, it was impossible to do so without a local number. She assisted us by using her own phone to make the purchase on our behalf, an act that goes above and beyond what is required of her job.

They do not have room service facility, for any requirement you must call on reception and they have only one answer that they do not have servant to serve , just do it yourself like luggage transfers, water and most embrassing picking extra bed upt your room. And then also they doesn't feel regret but shows disrespectful attitude by front desk. Not preferred for family but economic hotel (thato stay within city near to downtown. Taxi, metro are easily available.

Location is good, but the employees at the front desk were terrible and they were not very helpful and not willing to help the customer with any thing beside that they are not speaking English. The owner of this property may consider hire a new employees or send those employees to get train in customer service class. While I as their, I ask the lady at the front desk to help me find taxi, She said I don't have time and not my business, then I just walk out and find myself. The day when I check out I asked front desk lady to help me find the airport terminal on my airline ticket because of I cannot speak Chinese, and I wanted to telp taxi where to send me, but she said no I cannot help I am busy and she was so mad at me, so I just walk out and tell taxi to find out for me.

the hotel room looks new probably after recent renovation. It is convenient to most attractions n there are tram of one wishes to walk less to the attraction sites. Eati g places are the usual ones such as fast food for budget travellers. However, the noise from next door bar can be unbearable n lasted almost to 3am! By closing the room window, noise can be cancelled but at a price of a stuffy room.

If you took a train to the Shanghai Train Station you needed to take the north exit or face either a very long walk around the Shanghai Train Station or fail to get a taxi because it is too near to the hotel

Located walking distance to the metro and Shanghai Railway Station, a short metro ride to downtown, they will check your luggage after you check out for the day. Beds are hard, which is common in china, rooms are big, restaurant was nice, breakfast was good. Couldn't get the wifi to work, but this was true of the three hotels I stayed in in China, and most hotels I stay in in any country. Hotel wifi is always terrible. This was a nice place, and I will stay here again if I visit Shanghai.

This is an older hotel that has seen its better days. Nothing wrong, and there hjas been updating. Bathrooms and showers are good. Beds are comfortable. Warmish days in November on the sunny side of the hotel left the room hot for lack of AC working this late in the season. The complimentary \"continteal breakfast is much more. wide selection of Chinese choices, breakfast noodle and dumpling soups, congee plusa few western choices. Rates make this hotel a value.

The hotel met my expectations. Even though the hotel is supposedly a no-smoking area, my first room reeked of cigarette smoke. I complained to the front desk and they re-assigned another room that did not smell as bad. The breakfast buffet was excellent and was included in the cost of the room. I paid for 8 nights but only stayed for 5. This Hotels.com no-refund policy needs to be reviewed.

This property is located very close to the Shanghai (train) Station, although getting to the corresponding subway station is more difficult and lengthy. There is significant noise/vibrations from trains and trucks, except for a period around 10 pm to 5 am. The noise alone is enough for me to not recommend this place (it might be better on a high-up floor). However, the location is also not that great, both in terms of distance to the city center/subway and local amenities. Worst of all, almost every time I walked out the hotel door at night, men standing on the hotel steps very shamelessly and conspicuously offered me prostitutes: “Hey… you want a sex?” “Hi, massage with woman?” I felt bad for those women who got sold by these men, and I regret staying at this place instead of paying 20% more for something better.

Best value for money

Visited Shanghai as a solo traveler. This hotel is perfect for those who plan to do day trips to nearby cities as it is right next to high speed rail and long distance bus stations.

The rooms in the hotel are well maintained and the free breakfast has a good variety of choices. The neighborhood feels safe in general given a lot of travelers in the area all day while not overcrowded. Not noisy at night at all.

Unfortunately we lost our blood sugar counting medical equipment. We were not sure if it's taken way by our room attendant or someone purposely stolen that equipment from our room. We have to go to a local pharmacy store to buy a replacement. It cost us 499 yuan. We have reflected our loss to the front desk. But no one seems to speak good English and we were in a rush to leave on that morning. Other than that, everything are good. Just get frustrated to lost that equipment. My brother in law needs that to monitor his blood sugar every morning.

However one very important matter hotels.com States that the hotel offers a shuttle service - it does NOT
and we spent a good deal of time trying to get the hotel to pick us up from the airport in Shanghai to the waste of our time and money.
Your website should delete this or get the hotel to comply
We were not happy to have wasted our time when you arrive from an exhausting 15 hour flight!!

This was not our first time to visit Shanghai but was our first time to stay in this hotel (for 3 nights). The hotel is about 5 to 10 minutes walking distance from the Shanghai train station. There were 3 counters at the front desk, so it might take some time for check in if a group of guests arrives at the same time. Our room was on one of the top floors overlooking the city. The wifi was good. The room was quite spacious and there were 2 types of pillow (firm and soft). The bed was quite comfortable.

There was quite a variety for breakfast (western and Chinese styles). While I was wandering around in the lobby after breakfast on day 2, a man (later found out to be the hotel manager) approached me and asked me for comments about the hotel. I told him the location and breakfast were good but the room was a little bit outdate and the carpet was not very clean; they should consider renovation soon. He replied they had started the renovation. Unfortunately, they haven't done our floor yet. To my surprise, he offered to change our room. The new room (with wooden floor) was better. However, I think they still need to do more (renovate the bathroom as well) to stay competitive.

best choice for western tourists

Very international hotel, catering to western guests and up to western hotel standards. Probably the best hotel choice if visiting Shanghai. The hotel is full of foreigners from usa, canada, france, and australia, so they cater to that type of guest. The rooms are clean and functional, nothing overly fancy. Its a tall building and always full so elevators can be a bit of a wait sometimes. The wifi worked, the room was clean, and the place was reasonably quiet at night.

The location is fantastic, with the train station just around the corner from the hotel, and the long distance bus terminal also in the area. Makes it the easiest hotel in shanghai to travel to and from in my opinion. The subway also has a connection in the train station, so its about a 15 minute walk to get to it.

Value was okay, price varied between 75 bucks and 120 bucks a night depending on how busy it was while we were there. You wont find a better located hotel for this same price, certainly not one that caters to westerners.

Also note, there is a money exchange machine in the lobby so you can get chinese money, the rate isnt great, probably about a 6% fee to get RMB, but still very handy to have.

This hotel is good for location close to metro and rail station. Stayed in a room with King bed. Was provided with 2 water bottles, toothbrushes and slippers daily. The breakfast was good and had a decent selection with two rooms so it was never crowded. Rooms are nothing fancy and no pool but i didn't go for amenities, enjoyed the sightseeing! You also have a safe in the room.

Great location next to the train station, useful as the metro does stop running late at night if you are catching a late train into the city and don't want to navigate via bus. The staff spoke English and were some of the most welcoming we have encountered in China. They were engaging, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in making your experience positive, which is a rare and wonderful experience. However for the price, the conditions were a little disappointing. Perhaps it was just our room, but the bathroom had a mold-like smell, which we hypothesized may be due to some reflux back into the toilet. When we first arrived we thought someone had forgotten to flush the toilet. However in the morning, we found again discoloration of the water.

A conveniently located hotel

The hotel’s location is super , very close to the train station and the metro station with a lot of eateries nearby . Check in was quick and front desk staff was polite and helpful . But the room really can use some updates and the carpet was still dirty when we checked in , looks like it hasn’t been cleaned at all from the last guests’ stay . And we had to ask the hotel to send janitor to vacuum the room carpet again. But the buffet breakfast is really impressive and offers a lot of options .

Good value hotel but with poor cleaning record

I stayed over night for next day’s train ride. The hotel located next to Shanghai Train Station North Square, and even closer to Shanghai Long Distance Bus Station, and also close to the metro station. The room is reasonable sized, and other facilities are within standarded Holiday Inn Express range, including free breakfast. Considering the price of hotel room, I think it is good value. Unfortunately the room cleanness really let me down. On the floor, I found 2 pieces of finger nail clippings obviously left over by previous guest, some hair on pillows and bed sheet, which made me wonder if they actually had changed the sheet! Due to this poor experience, I don’t think I will return next time, otherwise it’s a hotel with good value proposition.

Winter holiday in Shanghai

Wonderful experience in this hotel.Hassle free checking in and checking out.Staffs are welcoming and very helpful (can speak English too). Location is near to Shanghai railway station ..so that makes transportation very efficient if you want to go to Hangzhou , Suzhou or Tongli.Near to tourist attractions. No fridge in the room ..but in winter that was not very necessary.The only downside was that the washing machine and dryer didn't work during my stay...but the management was quick to apologize and gave us some fruits and potato chips to compensate for the inconvenience. The room comes with buffet breakfast..The breakfast was nothing to die for ..but was sufficient to start the day. The hotel also provide room to store our luggage after we checked out. As our flight was at midnight,that was very convenient .

Thanks for the hospitality Holiday Inn Zaibei.Really appreciate your gesture of kindness.I will definitely recommend this hotel to holiday makers and family with growing up teens.

Nice hotel and cheap....good breakfast but location little bit far from downtown shanghai
