We had a great stay at the Kempinski High Tatrus. This hotel had an established, genuinely 5 star feel. It knows what it is, and delivers brilliantly. The setting is outstanding, with a frozen lake and snow on the ground, but we didn’t see a cloud in 4 days. The service is great, and the breakfast generous. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable; there is a pillow and duvet menu… all in a great stay.

The views are spectacular , the staff at the reception are nice, not that much at the Zion spa . English is a problem , they all speak Slovak and polish. No air condition in the whole hotel. How come , a 5 star hotel without air condition in the summer where temp is 95. They asked us to open the window and they brought us a fan from 1990 . All the bugs in the valley end entering through the open window. Breakfast is greasy and don’t expect any one to smile at you. Definitely , not worth the money, few other options in the area probably better. Over priced with less amenity . Not to mention , the spa receptionist did have much of decency . If you don’t speak Slovak , look somewhere else.

We had high hopes for this hotel, it was overall disappointing. We were given a room with a view to some rocks we had to pay extra to have something to see. They said that since we booked through Expedia....we don t get the same advantages as other customers, this is not a 5 star thing to say at the reception. The restaurant food was simply atrocious, I paid 60 euros for the worst piece of stake I had in my life, ever. Do NOT go to that restaurant, you have been warned. The bar and the spa are the only things we actually liked, 99% of the staff are very well trained and very polite.

Very much a top luxury Hotel with priced accordingly. Staff and service excellent. Spa great for relaxing with Bar service and stunning views. Rooms luxurious and views either side of the Hotel stunning. The Hotel set on the beautiful Strba Tarn against a backdrop of stunning mountains. Great walks / hiking trails very worthwhile but note they are long and quite hard to hike (proper footwear essential).
Highly recommended Hotel.

Hotel is beautifully situated, staff helpful, breakfast delicious. There is one huge problem. Our room was horrible. Bed was not even 3 stars range. We couldn't belive our eyes. So our advise is : if you are not staying in top price room dont bother. Not worth your money.

The property/service/staff does not live up to the usual Kempinski standard. The signature smell of this property is an ever-present somewhat coal-like smoke from the fireplace - starting with the lobby and affecting the outside.

Kempinsky in High Tatras is one of the most beautiful hotels out there. It’s absolutely stunning with the most amazing surroundings and the friendliest and most helpful staff. We have stayed here few times before and definitely will be back. The presidential apartment is very very special. Almost forgot to mention the stunning Zion spa.

My wife and I stayed Grand Hotel for the first time but have previously been to the Presov region. We found that the service from all of your staff including but not limited to; Valet parking / luggage carriage support, reception, bar and restaurant staff including during the breakfast buffet, housekeeping, spa and all were professional, courteous, supportive and always welcoming.
It was what we were expecting however and under the circumstances with travel whilst the covid pandemic is still present, were pleasantly surprised that your attentiveness, covid restriction management and service was extremely good.
The quality of food in the restaurant was exceptional. The staff at the Spa were supportive and welcoming.
The support from all at reception and valet / door person when we had a \"situation\" with misplaced car keys to help us to take our additional PCR test at Dom Seniorov was very much appreciated.
The Hotel and local area is beautiful and tranquil and it is a wonderful place to come to experience nature, wonderful surroundings, amazing views, attractive buildings and can be equally suited to romantic or activity based or relaxing getaways.
and all of the above reaffirms our interest to travel to stay at the Grand Hotel Kempinski, High Tatras again (hopefully soon).

Excellent experience in honeymoon suite

We stayed in the honeymoon suite which was huge and lovely, however the stairs to the jacuzzi on the roof were a bit scary. Service on the whole was excellent, they catered for all our needs, we used the spa and had an excellent Tower Dinner. Could do with more vegetarian options on all menus.

Beautiful hotel. Amazing staff! This hotel is extremely expensive so you would think there would be basics in the room like coffee maker, tea... No there is not such a thing. The other bad thing was, we booked deluxe rooms with lake view. The room was in the roof with tiny window so there was no view of lake unless you put chair at the window and claimed out on the roof. And because of the tiny windows the room was very dark and dingy. So I don't understand why you pay for lake view when you don't have one. I would expect much more if I pay crazy money for the hotel.

It was an amazing place . Service was excellent .I would like a kettle in the room . We got a very nice room and i would like to have a cup of tea in the balcony early morning .I normaly have a cup of herbal tea before going to bed. I could not do any of that .

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location

This is an historic building that has been impeccably restored. Our bedroom was extremely clean and comfortable. Flooring throughout is oak parquet, with mahogany panelling. There’s open fires in some of the public rooms. Breakfast is lavish. Service is very friendly and helpful. Mix of guests with some smartly dressed and many in comfortable casuals/shorts/T-shirts- hikers will not feel out of place.

Excellent High Class, Quality Hotel

I stayed at the hotel with my wife and 2 year old boy for a week in May whilst visiting Slovakia for a friends wedding. The hotel is excellent, of a very high standard, fantastic facilities, superb service and great food. Rooms are large and comfortable, again with very good facilities.

The hotel and staff are very welcoming and cater excellently for young children who are allowed in the swimming pool until 8pm. Toys, crayons and paper were put out at breakfast time to keep them entertained, and there is a small indoor area with toys to play with and our son loved playing in there during our stay.

Everything was nice, the beds were a little hard, we couldn't rest properly at night. Service was supurb, but one thing ticked us off. When we went to eat dinner, we called the reception to ask if the main restaurant was open, because there was a wedding on that night. They told us of course it was and that the wedding was in the opposite ballroom. They didn't mention anything about a reservation. When we went down to the restaurant the person in charge asked us if we had a reservation, we said no and that we called the reception and they mentioned nothing about having to reserve. So we were told that the restaurant was \"fully\" booked, despite us seeing around seven if not more available tables. He made us wait 20 minutes at the bar, and once we got out drinks, they barman received a phone call that a table became available. We stayed at the restaurant for almost two hours. Do you think the free tables got occupied? of course not! That really disappointed us.

Excellent Wellness Hotel in Spectacular location

Everything went exactly as planned at this hotel. It is very decadent but it is what you would expect from a hotel of this stature. Wellness centre was good and relaxing. Restaurant served good quality food. All the little extras you expect were provided. Within the hotel things are expensive. Food ' drink and wellness procedures are almost double the cost of other hotels in the village. Its OK if you expect that but almost double the price for the same massage you can have at the 4 star Patria Hotel across the lake is a bit over the top.

This hotel is a gem. The wellbeing facility is top.
The scenery in winter would be amazing; if I have to go Slovakia again, I will definitely stop there again.

This is one of those holiday, I wish I could extend my stay further.
Only one small negative, wished they used spring mattresses of mid tension.

We loved our stay at the Grand Hotel Kempinski. Our room was fantastic with a stunning view of the lake, service was first class, food was sensational and our waitress, Erica was terrific and helped us with local choices of food and wine and especially with our pronunciation of Slovak names, as Aussies we had no idea and had most of them very wrong. We enjoyed the wellness centre and massages were a treat after 2 weeks of skiing. The hotel really is worthy of its stars and as this was our first Kempinski experience we will definitely seek out their brand again. Thanks for a very memorable stay in Slovakia.

This hotel is very nice and comfortable, very warm service, nice staff. Hotel is located close to lake and many trip possibilities and cca 300 m from train station (very pleasurable connection to another places at High Tatras).
Spacious rooms are well maintained, breakfast is very tasty, range of meals is good.
Spa area is very nice but range of services is limited (only one hot sauna, one steam room and one caldarium).

Best hotel in Slovakia

This is a really great hotel - some hotels are 5 star but don't live up to the billing. This hotel really meets the grade. Staff are wonderfully helpful (and almost universally English speaking) and the facilities are great. Make good use of the wonderful spa facilities while you're there. Food's great, views are great - basically it's all great. The village of Strbske Pleso is a bit of an Iron Curtain era monstrosity of civic planning, and it doesn't help that the skyline of imposing mountains is rather dominated by two abandoned ski jumps, but the lake (Pleso) itself is lovely, as are the High Tatra mountains that are right there. All the hikes are really well marked so give them a go.

Be aware that this is a 5 star hotel so a beer or G&T at the bar will be the same price as in a bar in London. If you're short on spending money, there are bars in the village and you can get a pint of local beer for 1 Euro!

Excellent hotel, very good breakfast. Wellness area fantastic and the view from it is stunning! The only problem was with our room, although I must say we didn't complained since most of the time we spent hiking the area around. We got room on the last floor, under the roof so the room was dark with low ceiling and small window (not exactly lake view room)

The hotel is great in terms of facilities (different public areas, nice bar, great spa etc.) and the rooms well appointed and clean. Kempinski really puts in the effort to provide everything needed from different sizes of slippers and bathrobes to practical information on the keycard holder - so that´s all great. The only slight minus is really the restaurant. We had dinner there which was good (but not fantastic) but the fact that the breakfast buffet is a fixed piece of furniture in the middle of the room spoiled the total impression a bit. Breakfast however is really quite average and not Kempinski class. In terms of selection it´s pretty ok but quality wise it´s not great: a bunch of unappetizing cheeses, bread nothing special, omelette chef not really bothering etc.

It's pricy, but everything here is done to perfection. Staff are attentive, friendly, chatty and smiley without exception. Our room was spotless and the breakfast buffet is top notch. The ski resort is 10 minutes away on foot, across the frozen lake from the hotel. We also stayed in a slightly cheaper 4 star hotel locally and the Kempinski was worth every penny of the price difference and more. Very good indeed.

The hotel is great, the swimming pool view is to die for. The breakfast buffet is amazing, but the lunch at the bar or the dinner upstairs is overpriced, very small portions and not good at all. Eat somewhere else. They need to improve their lunch and dinner menu.

We stayed for a week and had excellent holidays, hotel is fantastically situated and has been wonderfully reconstructed, staff is attentive, rooms are spacy with magnificent views.

The only drawback was the ZION Spa. We booked several treatments and although there was a lower rate to be applied (until 3pm), we were repetitively charged the higher rate due to the \"fact\" that the treatment ended after 3pm - e. g. by 10 minutes.

The hotel was fantastic! Really good value for money. It is very grand, with excellent facilities and helpful, friendly staff. The rooms are huge, including seperate walk in dressing rooms. Breakfast was an excellent range and dinner in the restaurant was wonderful. Only two criticisms: there is no air con and when you open the windows to cool the room you are plagued by misquitoes; dinner in the main restaurant costs a fortune! Although you get a price list for the food to choose from, you don't for drinks. We got charged $25 a glass for champagne - I would not have ordered it if I knew it was so much.

This hotel does everything right, which can be a rare occurrence in Slovakia. The personnel is very well trained, competent, and courteous. The hotel itself is historic and modern at the same time with the best location imaginable. We were not lucky with the weather during our stay, but still got to enjoy the view of the (rainy) peaks from the hotel spa. The only small drawback is maybe the hotel restaurant (which does not overlook the mountains) - my husband's duck and my monkfish were both on the overdone side, which was surprising considering the prices. The staff was still quite attentive and the breakfast spread is great. So if you venture out for dinner (there are some decent options in Strbske Pleso, like \"Koliba Patria\" across the lake), you will love your stay.
