Very clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay overall, and loved the proximity of the hotel to everything. The only downside is the parking situation. There are very limited spots, and once all of the them fill up you are forced to pay to park at a meter. This means you are not guaranteed parking, even as a paying hotel guest. Other than that, the property was very nice.

Property was well located in the town. The interior common areas were a bit worn, I understand it is the North Tundra and due to inclimate weather the carpets take a beating. Room was clean and had all the necessary items. Heater worked great. The staff were helpful, knowledgeable , and kind, they get the highest marks.

While perfectly functional, my advice would be to spend a bit more and stay at nicer hotel in the same area. The whole hotel is in desperate need of updating and a refresh and I think the state of the place has led the cleaning staff to become complacent. Desk staff were hit or miss. Some were energetic and helpful while others either didn’t have a clue or a care. If you take the airport shuttle be aware both coming and going the drivers were loath to get out of their vehicles and at the airport it was the shuttle driver for the Edgewater hotel who had to show us where the other driver was waiting outside. Having said that, you get what you pay for. If you can get a good deal on staying here then take it!

Staff was friendly and helpful. Stayed in the 1 bedroom suite. Room was clean and comfortable. The jacuzzi tub was awesome and fits 2 people easily! The furniture was nice enough. The \"kitchenette\" was largely underwhelming. The suite is located at the end of the hall so very quiet. Good parking for being downtown and a number of plug ins for the vehicle which was a bonus. It was -33 the morning I left so my rig might not have started if it wasn't plugged in. I have stayed in this building over the years under different names and management and give the Sternwheeler a solid 4 stars as of March 2026.

Our best experience was at the restaurant where we enjoyed a night cap, and the bartender was knowledgeable and very friendly. Overall, a good hotel... Best part by far was the location - near transit, the river (incl. walking paths), and lots of restaurants. However, while I booked a mobility accessible room by accident online, they only had one apparently and already gave it away; for people needing that, you may want to get something in writing. The room was generally quiet, but a) the HVAC system and other 'utilities-type' noises were loud when they kicked in, and b) the bathroom door did not close at all. Small note: seemingly a lot of cigarette smokers staying there, so the hallways and elevators always stunk.

Great hotel right in the heart of Whitehorse. Super easy to walk to the river, shops and dining. Very friendly, attentive staff. I had a few special requests to be sent to our room and they kindly obliged. My only comment would be to have a few more garbage cans in the lobby area and outside.

Room was nice, friendly staff and the restaurant is excellent. The parking situation is bad, only about 18 spots in a very cramped lot. BUT - we parked on the street right below our room and had no issues. Go to the visitor center and get a 3 day street parking pass for free. It's also free overnight and only 50 cents and hour during the day so its cheap. I would have liked to know ahead of time about the parking and only found out about the visitor center pass from staff at a local outfitter, the hotel never mentioned it. I would stay again, the hotel itself is good.

This is a larger hotel with a restaurant attached. We ate there one night and it was good. The hotel is older but our room was updated, clean and comfortable. The two items that could be worked on would be more hot water available at peak times and the ac unit was quite loud( but effective!). We stayed twice and would stay again.

Poor Room Location

I paid extra for a suite, the room was nice but it was located right above the main lobby doors. I heard the front doors open and close every single time. Ended up having a horrible sleep.

The hotel staff did not clean our room.
The bathroom offered one little bar of soap other than the dispensers located
on the bathtub which were empty. The room smelt very musty and had to open the window to air out the room.
Overall for the price I was very disappointed and doubt I would stay again. Also I had booked and paid for two nights stay. The hotel only had us staying for one night and called me several times to confirm our reservation then informed me that I was past check out time and I had to explain again and provide proof that I was booked and had paid through Expedia for two nights. It was very disappointing to go through this.

Unfortunately check-in took approximately 45 minutes as there was only one staff member on duty. Having to check in customers, answer the phone and various other duties. It was not the fault of the receptionist but the hotel only having one staff member was unacceptable.

Terrible rock hard bed

The staff was friendly but the room was tiny, plugs for charging didn’t work, telephone didn’t work, the bed was had as plywood, and the comforter was as thin as maybe 3 sheets.

I thought for the price we paid the hotel would be in a bit better shape…needs a facelift. Rugs need replacing and the wallpaper looks like it’s from the 60s. Also, the ceilings are rather strange..maybe it’s just soundproofing not done so good.
Also, the parking lot was under construction and there really wasn’t enough spots for everyone’s cars.
However, the room was quiet and beds were comfortable enough.

First and last time I will be staying at the Sternwheeler. Nothing wrong with the property itself, but after travelling for 14 hours, the last thing I wanted to deal with was a check in staff with zero customer service abilities. It really ruined my experience. I'll choose to stay elsewhere in the future.

The Sternwheeler was a wonderful hotel. We had originally booked another hotel and were unable to stay there. We had a truck load of stuff and the Sternwheeler went out of their way to find a safe place to park for the night. The room was very comfortable and the staff was excellent. We enjoyed supper in the hotel restaurant and it was very good. I'll be sure to stay there if I'm in Whitehorse again.
