The room was clean, the bed comfy.The room was not expensive.
The staff did not seem friendly and the service was grudging. This is apart from the manager who was very friendly.
The food at the bar was average, the chips were cold and hard.
It is not possible to sit out by the pool as we hoped as the metal lounge chairs were old and covered in dirt and leaves. The few cushions were dirty and damp.

We booked with hotels.com. And our booking included a FREE breakfast buffet. One of the reasons we changed from the kingdom we were told by the management the problem was with hotels.com. I tried at the time to complain to you but your online rep just cut me off. This needs to be sorted asap. Or it will reflect badly on both hotel and yourselfs

The bed was comfortable and the surroundings were very nice, which gave a good first impression. The pool was fine, though it could definitely have been cleaner. Unfortunately, the room itself felt quite dated and the bathroom was not very clean, which took away from the overall comfort.

The biggest disappointment came on our checkout day when there was no water at all, making it impossible to shower or even wash up. We had paid extra for a late checkout, but couldn’t use it because of the water issue. The staff were friendly and apologetic, and we were promised an email with a credit note — but we never received it.

With a bit of maintenance, better cleaning, and improved communication, this hotel could be so much better. It has potential, but as it stands, it was a frustrating experience overall.

The venue was okay, and the staff were great — friendly and tried their best to be accommodating. However, some policies were not clearly communicated at the time of booking, which caused unnecessary frustration at check-in. For instance, we were not informed about restrictions on bringing alcohol into the rooms or the number of guests allowed per room. Additionally, the listing on Expedia stated that breakfast was included, but upon arrival, we were told that no breakfast was provided. Better transparency around policies and inclusions would have made for a smoother experience.

A place to Relax and enjoy!!!

very nice surprise, a lot of history to the place especially if you are into the anglo boer war, Paul Kruger etc. Met the owner, Robert Forsyth, very nice and friendly person, full of knowledge about South African History. The room we were in was very spacious, it also included a sizeable bathtub.
There are 60 something rooms in the lodge but they appear to be spread out as I only saw maybe a dozen which made the place very private.
I would highly recommend Kedar lodge if you are don't want the hustle and bustle of Sun City (20 min away) and want to just chill and maybe take one of their history tours of the farm/lodge

Horrible hotel. To avoid at all price!

This hotel was horrible. We got such a dirty room full of mosquitoes that we could not accept to stay and we had to drive back to Johannesburg with our 1-month old baby. That was a really unpleasant experience. The staff and management would not admit anything was wrong with the room and, of course they refused to refund the 4 nights we had paid for upfront. That's just unacceptable and shameful. I strongly recommend to avoid this hotel at all price! There are so many other nice options next to the Pilanesberg (starting with Sun City hotels), there is no reason to subsidize awful places such as Kedar Heritage Lodge.

Excellent breakfast bar and dinner variety and service, comfortable beds, well replenished rooms. beautiful grounds, good staff, friendly and helpful. Only upset was that it took 45 minutes to check in after 6 hours of travelling as Supervisor was no where to be found, with a confirmed call 3 days before of exact check-in time.

How to spoil a short break.

Took involuntary cold showers on the night of arrival. Plumber could not get the geyser going. Drain clogged so water up to ankle high towards the end. Had to wait for a room to be refreshed in the morning before decent ablutions.

Striking Ambiance

I stayed at this original hotel/lodge after visiting Pilanesberg National Park. The historical decor and statues were quite a surprise. The room was comfortable and morning breakfast was great. The staff were friendly. The only downside is that the front desk double invoiced in addition to the prepaid Hotels.com fee - be careful.

Beautiful location. Was my 2nd time there. First was better. Bed needs to be upgraded a bit saggy. The noise levels from fellow guests and staff in the early morning was dreadful so a sleep in wasn't possible.
Sadly will not be a third visit from me.

Worth considering

Great location for Pilanesberg National Park. This is an old establishment that has basic rooms, basic food and inconsistent service. However, there is some historic value and the price is very reasonable for the area, so it is worth considering if budget is a factor.

The lodge has a very friendly staff with a nice buffet breakfast. There is a walking trail to see some of the animals and a number of statues located around the property. The lodge does have large travel groups from overseas and should not be considered a small lodge.

Lovely lodge, perfect for romantic stay

Had a lovely time at Kedar. We had booked a super deluxe room but when we arrived they didn't have any left, plus the payment details had not gone through so they thought we still had to pay for the booking. After this was all sorted out (by a very nice lady called Ballysing (sp) and her duty manager) we had a lovely room and a fabulous stay at Kedar. Proximity to Pilanesberg was great, and the food at the lodge was nice. We would stay here again.

Nice place, especially if you are into history

We stayed at the hotel during August 2016 for 4 nights. My first impression was a bit dissapointing, as the hotel has an overwelmingly historical theme, which was not evident from the website. Everywhereyou look there areguns, swords, helmets and medals from the boer war. The room was not exactly as nice as it seemed from the website either. The biggest negative was actually the noises from the main road which runs very close to the rooms. We were woken every morning at 5 am by the sounds of big trucks driving by. The staff also played cheesy american pop music way too loud in the restaurant.

Having said that, once we got used to the place, we noticed a couple of redeeming features. The staff was generally very helpfull and friendly. The food and service in the restaurant and pub was very good. The service in the rooms was good.

Overall I would say it was worth the money we spent. The venue is situated very close to Sun City and the Pilanesberg nature reserve..

our stay was awesome, wonderfully out of this world. The hotel is a 4 star however we received a 5 star service which made our stay warm and beautiful. The staff members were all excellent, friendly and very helpful. We would definitely pass by next time should we be in North West because their chefs cooks the most delicious food ever. The environment is conducive to be at and you wouldn't wish to be anywhere else but there.

Lovely hotel- we arrived early from the UK and were allowed to check in very swiftly despite the official check-in time not being for many hours- The room was clean, beds comfy, staff attentive, pool lovely, and the added hippo walkway was also a big hit. We found it to be excellent value for money and would recommend it to all our friends

Romantic Valentines Weekend Away

My husband and I had a fantastic time at Kedar. The lodge is beautiful. The service was excellent. Food was great. Excellent value for money. Its the perfect location to visit SunCity for the day. We went for Valentines and took part in Kedars Valentines outside movie and picnic which was just perfect. We unfortunately missed the Paul Kruger Musuem as we were under the impression we could just walk there, but in actualy fact its a guided tour that you to meet in the lobby for so we missed it by a few minutes :( Otherwise, Kedar was great, and we will defnitely go back and recommend.

First rate relaxation in the country

Arrived late afternoon after a hot drive to be greeted with cool flannels and complimentary cold drinks. After an easy and efficient check in we were shown to our room and shown where evening meals and breakfast would be served. Room was well equipped and comfortable and food was very good throughout our stay. The hotel staff were friendly, attentive and extremely helpful at all times. We intend to come back next time we are in South Africa.

Fabulous Kedar stay.

We so enjoyed our stay that we will book again. The rooms were great and the service excellent. All that let them down was the Saturday night Buffett. It was really poor. The food was inedible and the choice was very limited.

We found the tour incredible and the guides knowledge amazing. He spoke with such a love of the heritage around him.

I have recommended this hotel to many people already.

My stay was only intended as a stopover on my way to a different destination, but really liked the property so much that I extended my stay. Beautiful property, fantastic staff, spacious and comfortable rooms, and lots of interesting historical memorabilia and such around the property. The food was really good in the onsite pub, with a particularly friendly and attentive staff that worked there. The wildlife onsite is not extensive, but charming nevertheless. Close to Sun City and Pilanesberg National Park, which was a surprisingly nice national park and very easy to self-drive.

History in the bush

Staff so helpful, wonderful rooms. There is much much to see and learn at this hotel.
Wow so much history. We just loved this hotel in the bush. Wild buck walking in the gardens.
The road to get to the hotel is not very nice and I didn't like the area.
Once in the grounds of the hotel you feel very safe there is security gates and it's all fenced off.

Freezing cold rooms

Our biggest complaint is the lack of heating. We visited the hotel from the 7th to the 9th of July 2014 when the outside temperatures had dropped considerably, something the hotel obviously cannot do anything about, but surely guests can expect that there would be adequate heating provided in their rooms and communal areas, this sadly was not the case. Our rooms in general were cold with the bathrooms, which had no heating at all, down to freezing or below and the only heating provided was a totally inadequate air conditioning unit which although set at the top temperature output (32 deg) was definately not producing this temp and was unable to do its' duty. We had most of our evening meals in Hero's bar due to the extended choice but to do so you pay the price in comfort as there is no protection from the icy draughts when the door, which leads directly to the outside with no vestibule for protection, is continuously being opened, and more often than not not closed, by the waiting staff collecting drinks for the main dining room. I must admit there is an open fire but you only get the benefit of this if sitting at the lounge suite in the corner where it is situated. Would we go back? well definately not in the winter.

An African adventure with some comforts of home.

Friendly staff, trained in hospitality, comfortable rooms, very interesting dining facilities, eating meals in a museum, delicious meals with a large variety of menu choices for breakfast, in room tea and coffee, hot showers, comfortable beds that challenge your departure. Don't miss the Saturday bonfires in the BOMA with the meats grilled to order, cold beer, and many side dishes. Take the free tours of the Boer living Quarters, Pigmy Hippo walk, great exercise made interesting with the nature sightings. Short drive to Sun City, do not miss the High Tea at 3:00 PM, front desk will make the arrangements. Lots of wildlife at your front door, mind the impala herds on the roam just outside the compound. Great value, would certainly return. This location will put you inside the Boer Wars history, ask many questions as the staff is very knowledgeable, and take photos, do not leave your room without a camera, as photo opportunities are at every turn.

Close to Sun City and Pilanesberg National Park. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We could view animals (zebras, giraffes, elands) right at the fence of the lodge. The only negative thing I could say about this hotel was that the menu was lacking variety seen that they only had one restaurant open during our 4 night stay. There are no other restaurants in close proximit to this hotel.

Comfortable hotel close to Sun City and Pilansberg

We Stayed at Kedar with our 2 kids. We stayed in a family room which had ample space and the outdoor shower was a plus. There was a buffet restaurant and a bar with a good menu to choose from. The gardens were good for a wander around, the hippo walk was a lovely walk to see the pigmy hippos on site, but what was most interesting is all the Anglo Boer War Memrobilia. All kept in good order. The Paul Kruger museum on the grounds made a good tour. All staff very friendly, especially Cecil in the bar.
The hotel is 20km from Sun City and Pilansberg National Park.

A very pleasant surprise

This was a pleasant surprise. Was expecting to go to a place that allowed us to just lay down our head, but we got a lot more than that. The lodges were spacious and comfortable, the meals were good, and while we did not partake in some of the other comforts of the spa and the game drive among other things, there was plenty to do. There is an Anglo-Boer War theme to the place, with much old war paraphernalia decorating the buildings. We enjoyed ourselves and we would stay again

I really enjoyed it, the only thing I had a problem with was that there are a couple of ponds around with stagnated water which does not looking appealing and of-coarse seems to attract more mosquitos.There is also a large fish pond, which we heard was once a swimming pool and is quite deep this is near the bar where we would go to have lunch, drinks etc now having a 2 year old toddler I thought this was quite dangerous as the water is incredibly green and thick with algae there is no protection around this pond if a child were to fall in there it would be really hard to see where the child fell and would result in drowning.I would suggest putting on a net this will not disturb the fish and will make it much safer.

Great hotel, why so many bad reviews?

We stayed at the lodge and initially almost cancelled after reading some reviews. A great experience, almost a museum and great art and wildlife. The buffet breakfast was one of the bests and we at at the pub every night, great Fish&Chips and Burgers.
Do widlife all around. Not only nice, but a great experience.

Nice alternative to Sun City when visiting P'berg

We chose this location rather than staying at Sun City for a short visit to Pilanesberg. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. The morning breakfast was very comprehensive and good, and the lodge could arrange game drives to the reserve - both their own and through a service at Sun City. Since we were leaving very early the last morning we asked for a breakfast pack - and were impressed at how much good food they were able to pack into the bags. Overall we were very happy with this visit.

Wow, the staff is so friendly ! The rooms are neat and specious, comfortable beds. What I loved the most is the saroundings... the rooms are in the bushes. The best place I've been to in a long time. Will defenetly return.

The beds were great and those duvets were awesome. Spacious bedrooms and bathroom. Lovely place and the breakfast was superb. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.Need to add some more activity for the kids.

excellent weekend away of the hustle of Jhb

Stay was good .Reception staff & manager (Ernest) very accommodating & very pleasant. Al cart menu needs to be more enticing & variety. Entertainment requests need to be more attributable to the seasons (Boma should definitely be lit during winter).Spa treatment was mediocre, definite improvement must be made.Overall the hotel has a lot of potential as a world class stay.

Disappointed!

I was disappointed that the Spa was fully booked the whole wknd as was the reason why I booked this property.. Really needed a relaxing getaway to get pampered. Didnt see anybody at the spa so wonder.. Got price lists for the spa a week before and would have been nice to know. Would only stay again if on business and only need to sleep and go, great rate through hotels.com not much to do on the premises. Dinner buffet was disappointing. Way over priced! Had soup with a role, lamb chop and chicken fillet with a mixed veg, pot and salad and limited cheese selection. Desert was rock hard muffins with choc sauce over and selection of ice creams.. Would expect alot more for that amount of money. A plate of food that I could have prepared at home.

We went to Kedar for the weekend as wanted somewhere close to Sun City and Pilanesburg . It was excellent in every way. Staff went out of their way to be helpful, rooms were like mini lodges, free museum tour to Paul Krugers farm, Pygmy hippos in th grounds. Food fantastic !would 100% return

Great Hotel. Poorly managed

As long as you don't mind having to ask for help and telling them exactly what you need (ex. coffee, drinks, you'd like to order) and don't need to talk to the reception desk often, it'll be fine. There was a very helpful worker named David that helped a lot. He's one of the greeters.

We love this hotel but be warned the food in the bar was dreadful and the restaurant was much better and expensive for what they offered. However they had great staff and a very naughty Giraffe!

Great accommodation close to Sun City

We had a lovely two night stay at Kedar Country Lodge. The main reason for our stay was to go to Sun City, but Kedar was more than just a place to sleep, we thoroughly enjoyed staying there. Highly recommended, great value
