We had a lovely stay at Occidental Roca Negra. The hotel is peaceful with beautiful, quiet surroundings—perfect for relaxing. The spa and pool area were highlights, and the food was delicious with plenty of variety. Staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. The only minor downside is that there isn’t much nearby in terms of shops or markets, but if you’re looking for a place to unwind and disconnect, this hotel is ideal.

The most I like breakfast and dinner buffet, spa and views ftt try on the roof and balcony.

It is a beautiful area and a nice hotel. Very limited options for meals around and the hotel does not have the most varied offerings. The room is spacious and clean. pool bar is under renovation. Breakfast was great in the buffet, dinner depends on the night on the buffet, options are limited in the rooftop area. Room serviced is advertised throughout the property but does not exist.

Very good hotel with excellent views over the cliff and beaches. The hotel is somewhat remote from the town and a steep climb back up. Food was ok but not the best I've had in a 4 star hotel. Vegetarian choices were available but not great for main courses. The terrace bar on the rooftop was great for drinks and watching the sunset but was taken over by a film crew for 3 days which was disappointing. Didn't try the spa. I would go again.

On the surface, the resort looks nice. Upon further inspection much is in need of a deep clean, fresh paint, or complete replacement of some items. We booked all inclusive but they were so strict about when and where you could get food or drinks. We tried to order a bottle of Cava to our room, but that wasn’t allowed. We wanted to grab a piece of fruit from the buffet to take on a hike, again not allowed. Wanted to mix a couple of the included alcohols to make an Aperol Spritz, not allowed. Asked house keeping for a bottle of water, not allowed. It was frustrating and disappointing. Finally, the food was nearly tasteless. We gave up and went to town for most of our meals. On a positive note, the staff were very kind despite being held back from being helpful. The view from our balcony was beautiful and Agaete is an adorable little town. Overall, we were disappointed and will not be going to another Occidental resort

Some of the rooms basically have no access to daylight as the rooms face a wall of rock. I was not informed on Expedia that the room has no view at all. There is a window but quite useless. Very dark all day. I would not recommend. Lots of options for breakfast but nothing particularly tasty. The service at the reception takes no actions on any complains and pretend they don’t speak good English.

The location was good. Walkable to Nieves where there’s a selection of shops ( need to buy water) or ferries to Tenerife.
Parking on the roads nearby, no difficulties with that. Nice pool and adequate gym. Spa nice and recommend.
The sofas and carpets need replacing, they look old and not very clean now. Otherwise rooms clean and bed comfortable. Good shower.
The first evening meal was a scramble, too many guests per staff member. I couldn’t get a glass of wine, they were too busy:-( .
Food was ok and on a couple of days pretty good. They ran out of black tea bags two mornings completely and plain yogurt also two out of our four mornings.
Efficient check out.

This is not a 4* star property by any means. The facilities are outdated and the rooms are simply and not up to date. We were upgraded to a junior suite which was lovely but I would not have opted to pay for this. There are no luxury elements to this hotel. The included breakfast was basic and tasteless. This would be far better if advertised as a nice 3* hotel. Amenities are very simple and it is not the kind of hotel/resort you would opt to spend a day in relaxing. The local area was quiet and felt very safe but if staying here I would suggest hiring a car to be able to better get to local areas to eat etc. The hotel also has no heating and is freezing at night. We won't be back.

Unfortunately, my stay at this hotel was far below expectations. While the room was lovely and the surroundings beautiful, several issues made the experience disappointing.

We opted for the all-inclusive package, but the food was consistently poor, often inedible. Both my boyfriend and I experienced stomach aches and diarrhea every day after dining, and we saw cockroaches in the kitchen.

We were also charged extra for burgers at the rooftop bar, which were supposed to be included and arrived cold and inedible. Additionally, the hotel does not clearly label food or allergens. My boyfriend, who is lactose intolerant, had a bad reaction after eating a soup containing dairy, which staff failed to mention.

To add to the disappointment, my boyfriend made special arrangements with the hotel staff for my birthday and followed up multiple times. Despite his efforts, on the day of my birthday, none of the planned surprises were delivered. He had to remind the staff again, which really detracted from the celebration.

While some staff were friendly, the manager was dismissive and seemed uninterested in addressing our concerns. Overall, the poor dining experience and unprofessional service overshadowed our stay. I would not recommend eating at this hotel, especially if you have dietary restrictions.

Interesting place- lots to like, but not the \"Zen Spa\" experience expected. Still very enjoyable. The drive from LPA was pretty easy for a US driver - I wouldn't shy away from renting a car - it was a straight and easy ride. I parked on the street, no issue there. Room was super clean, lovely view, comfortable, Netflix on TV. No wash cloths. Shower was nice, great shampoos and plentiful amenities. There were 2 bottle of water in the mini-fridge but they were not replenished, a little stingy considering the style of hotel. The facility really was very nice. Pools and outdoor furnishings clean, lovely and plentiful. 2 issues slight down side; the pools close early - around 7pm. And most of the time it was very, very loud. I understand that this may be a cultural difference - and certainly this is not a criticism. People were wonderful; friendly, warm, and enjoying themselves. But not a traditional spa-like atmosphere, so just be aware if this will color your visit. People having a good time is a good thing - yes! In the spa there were signs for \"silencio\". This lasted for about 5 minutes into my visit, after which people were yelling to each other in constant conversation over the whirlpool jets as I chuckled to myself in the \"zen pool\". No silencio. But great water jets in the whirlpool. The walk to the natural ocean pool is very very steep, long, was cold in May. But beautiful! But not for elderly or frail. Check your bill leaving, 2 dinners charged by mistake to my room.

The hotel was beautiful but because the property was a bit far from restaurants etc., I felt they took advantage of their customers by charging outrageous prices for beverages and while there was plenty of food, the quality was never better than average. It was very much like being on a cruise ship quite honestly. Great views though.

Great relaxing spot

Overall excellent hotel. Extremely scenic spot and very peaceful I slept with the sound of waves. Not walkable to many shops but great for a relaxing break. They only give you water and amenities the first day. Few British tourists most German and peaceful.

The same can be said about the hot stone massage at the hotel spa. We were very happy with our stay here, and in fact spent most of our time on the island at the hotel.

Fabulous location on the coast with lovely views. Easy walk down to the port and to the sea pools. Breakfast - lots of choice including lots of lovely fresh fruits etc. Dinner - a weird selection of things - perhaps themed nights would be better to prevent the general mish mash. Lovely big pool, lots of sun loungers but very few (approx 10!!) parasols.
Some very negative points however
No drawers at all in the bedroom so it got very cluttered. (Very strange in a good sized bedroom - masses of room for drawers)
Two separate beds with no zip link facility so big gap.
Dreadful smell of damp and the air conditioning was not working. Engineer said all over the hotel was an issue. The damp was really bad - I partially cured it by putting laundry detergent down the drain and pouring boiling water down.
Bedroom was not well cleaned - lots of grime generally.
The strangest thing was that above the bed there was a huge rectangle of glowing light when we put the lights out.. so irritating as it made the room light. Also because of no air con we had sliding balcony door open and there was lots of light pollution from lights outside.
Getting a bath towel - the most ridiculous procedure.. have to pay ten euros cash, go and get a voucher then go and get a towel from reception... what a performance.
No live music as promised on rooftop terrace (which is lovely)
Waitresses were lovely but other staff surly and did not seem well trained. Restaurant is like underground car park

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The reception staff, particularly Alfredo and Edwardo (I may their names wrong) helped us when I accidently booked your two day stay for one person, when it should have been two people. Quite frankly they could have ripped us off to make the change but they did not do that. Instead they waived a penalty and provided us with a comparable price that we previously had, adjusted up for the extra meals.
The location is terrific, we enjoyed the entertainment, grounds, pool and especially the walk across the sand doons to the beautiful beach.

We stayed here for 10days and had two connecting rooms. Both were a great size and as a young family of 5 had so much space. We were on the same floor as the pool and access to the pool was brilliant. It was a lovely pool area, with a small childrens pool and an adult only bubble pool. There is also a pool side bar which you can get drinks and light snacks from the day and carlos was brilliant-friendly. I have to mention all the hotel generally appeared clean there was an issue with cockroaches. We found main dead in the corridor outside our room and had to kill two ourselves inside the room. We notified management, and \"extra cleaning\" offered for the next day although we had to remind them and follow this up due to staff stortage. I also spoke about this on check out and after the reception staff told management whilst we sat in reception for 45 mins waiting for taxi, no further interaction was made to us. That was very disappointing. We also did notice many smaller \"baby\" cockroaches which we exterminated after the two huge invaders. This was a shame as most other things were fine. It could have helped if the door had a brush on the bottom but it looked like this was removed and not replaced (both rooms). Breakfast was well-stocked and pretty much the same for 10days. Would have liked poached eggs and hollandaise to be an option but couldnt see this. The hotel is a fairly long way to the village area bit is worth it. The walk back has a very steep hill. Good 3 star not a 4

A fantastic, off the beaten track hotel.

We've just returned from a fantastic week here. The location is stunning, the hotel is very comfortable and the food is wonderful. The staff are very friendly and very eager to please. We had a upper floor room with a king size bed, great modern bathroom, a balcony and amazing sea views. I can't recommend this lovely hotel enough.

It was very bright and airy, spacious, with a comfortable bed, decent rainfall two man shower, beautiful view from the terrace.

Lovely hotel on the quiet side of the island. Rooms are cavernous and more than big enough for a family of four. Fabulous views of sea and mountains from the rooftop bar. Staff very happy to help with dietary requirements (coeliac) and also with a room change when the original room was not clean. Parking is not included but is only 6 euros per day in the underground car park.

Clearly this hotel had seen better days. It is a beautiful structure with a great pool and roof deck. Amazing views. It really needs some tlc. And money! Our room A/C kinda worked. They were going to send someone up but we thought it was working so we didn’t bother. We were wrong. The room was full of flies. The bed was horrible. The pillows were worse. Ate both dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Buffet style. Bad. Breakfast was better then dinner. I will say the stay were very nice and were great to offer help. Trying to get the room safe working was annoying. Also trying to bet pool towels. What a run around.

Perfect mini break

Perfect hotel for a short, relaxing stay in Gran Canaria. The location was great, just a short walk from the harbour where there was a good choice of restaurants, the room was comfortable and spacious and the rooftop bar was perfect for a cocktail or two at sunset! I would definately recommend this place.

The swimming pool really should be heated. In the 5 days I was there only 4 people braved the ice cold pool. In this day and age and with so much sun I feel solar panels could be installed for heating the pool. This would have made the resort excellent for me. Its such a shame because I like to have a swim every day when i'm on holiday and this wasn't possible. The food at breakfast could have been hotter.

Wonderful stay in the middle of nature!

The hotel is in an absolutely lovely surrounding right next to the ocean with nature all around. It’s clean and all areas of the hotel were nicely decorated. The roof top bar was amazing as well although its food service closed super early. Our room had a great balcony with a ton of privacy. Only minus point was the temperature in the room and there being no heating (only air conditioning). The hotel staff kindly gave us extra blankets though, as we were so cold.

The hotel doesn’t match descriptions, no fitness center, it’s a construction site with noise all day long(starting at 08 am, even on weekends)
Which has the effect that it’s noisy but also dust on chairs, tables and clothes which you hang outside for drying

Beautiful views, friendly helpful staff both on reception and in the restaurant.
Spa facilities were great; as we're there staff.
Food was good, but in my opinion you need to have a few more choices especially for people with multiple food allergies.
The room was huge as was the balcony overlooking the pool and the ocean.
Beautiful place would definitely return. Hopefully without building work going on this time.

This is a hidden gem of a hotel. Clean, very friendly and helpful staff, restaurant is wonderful (we especially enjoyed the breakfast buffet). If you want a quiet retreat without many young kids and a friendly laid back pacr, this is it. Hiking along the coast, a walk in the beautiful small town of Agaete and a trip up into the mountains is a must.

We stayed here for 11 nights in January and had a wonderful holiday. Our room was a superior room on the third floor with a sea view. The room was big, including a big double bed (two zipped singles - comfy and spacious), sofa, balcony overlooking the sea with plenty of space, bathroom with a great powerful shower over the bath, plenty of storage, mini fridge, safe, air conditioning, coffee and tea - in fact everything you could need. We stayed bed and breakfast and the breakfasts were lovely - great choice, plenty of everything, delicious breads, whole variety of cooked items as well as cold meats, cheeses, fruit, cereal, coffee, tea, juice - we really were spoilt for choice. Everywhere was clean and tidy. The pool area had plenty of sun beds (and not the ones that tip up when you sit on one end!). The pool bar was a great place of respite from the sun for a cheeky early sangria or beer and the pool itself was useable even in January. It was a few minutes walk down to the port where there were plenty of places to eat (in particular we enjoyed Ragu which was very busy but also very delicious) as well as a Spar shop where we picked up bottles of water and wine to take back with us. The walk back up to the hotel takes a bit longer as it is very steep, and also quite dark in places so we’re glad we had a little torch with us. We hired a car from Cicar for 3 days which was delivered to the hotel for us, other than that we sunbathed and stayed local. Great hotel , brilliant!

Modern hotel in quiet location overlooking the sea

Large, comfortable rooms, overlooking the pool and the sea below the cliffs.There is a steep path leading down to the sea where there are some natural salt water pools with access for swimming.
The hotel is in a quiet location, but some rooms suffer noise from Aircon equipment and pool cleaning equipment. Also, even if room Aircon is turned off there is still noise in the room.
The restaurant is a large, bare room across the road. There is a large choice of food from a buffet, and breakfast is generally good. Dinner also has large choice, but many items are of poor quality and main course choice is poor.
Restaurant service is good and staff are very friendly and helpful.

Lovely hotel, peaceful area

Enjoyed my stay at the hotel roca negra. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Located in a nice peaceful area, away from the hustle and bustle. I had breakfast included in my stay - all you can eat, which I really enjoyed. No real complaints - I guess the only thing I would have liked is a kettle with tea/coffee in my room, but this is a minuscule issue. Had a lovely time.

Good hotel with outstanding views all round.

It was hard to find the hotel as the SatNav did not recognise the road name, so took us to a different area of the town. Once we found the hotel it was lovely. The staff were very friendly and rooms were clean and comfortable. The only criticism of the room was the aircon was not very efficient. The outside pools were cold with no heating and there is no protection from high winds. The breakfast was very good and again the staff were friendly and efficient. The walks down to the natural pools, town and harbour were excellent however it is quite a climb on the return to the hotel. Overall thoroughly enjoyed our experience staying at this hotel.

Nice Hotel by the sea

Very nice and clean quiet hotel, good for getting away for some peace and quiet relaxing environment, good locating for walks and rock claiming by the beach. The nearest shops are at the harbour which is a good 15mins walk.
The hotel staff are nice and friendly, the down fall about the hotel there are no facilities in the rooms for making tea or coffee you have to rely on the restaurant first thing in the morning or the bar though out the day and night if you’re wanting a hot drink. The gym area is quite small five to six people it starts to become overcrowded, has this hotel is rated a (4.5 star)?

Comfortable hotel in lovely setting

It took us some time to find the hotel since we arrived late at night. We were met by friendly and helpful staff at reception. In fact, throughout our stay the staff couldn't have been nicer. The hotel itself is located in a quiet area with stunning views of the sea and the mountains. The rooms on the top floor have the best views. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and the buffet organised for dinner was good although the food itself was rather bland. If you like a sunny, peaceful break and love hiking, this is the place for you.

Great bed at least!!!

The room during the day was very hot. At night finally the A/C was good. Walls and floor are paper thin so heard all sorts of bumps and noises - NOT GOOD!!! Short cuts were taken in this 2010 hotel construction that it feels like it was built in the 70's and just made over badly.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Price was great also.

Place to relax

This hotel is good if you want to relax and be away from noises and crowds. Agaete city is a small Village, but very beautiful. I recommend you to arrange your transportation from LPA airport through the hotel once the airport transfer is cheaper than the regular taxis

Lovely hotel

Only spent one night hear it was a little treat for our 23rd anniversary whilst on holiday to playa del ingles. Hotel put rose petals and bubbly in room which was lovely.
Breakfast was very good and lots of choice.
Spa disappointed that it was not included in room rate we booked in for the aft but when we when wevarrived they to use it we were told the cost was 26 Euro per person.which was almost the room rate price fo 1 1/2 hours.

Very quiet and certainly glad we had a car, Indifferent experiences with local restaurants. Hotel food choice was rather limited, however overall it was very good for what we wanted.
not being able to charge to room was irritating and pool bar food choice very limited but staff were excellent in trying to please.

Lovely hotel in a lovely area

We were a bit apprehensive as we are used to a high standard, usually staying in a 5* gold crown resort in the south of the island. However we were pleasantly surprised by this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel was clean, staff very friendly and helpful and a bonus being in a lovely location. The only draw back is that we had twin beds when we are used to sleeping together plus the sheets on my bed had a couple of holes in it. Water was provided daily and the breakfast was pretty good with a lot of variety. We even ate in the restaurant a few times as it was very reasonably priced. If you eat here chose one starter then havd ghe buffet, only €10 per person plus your drinks. The pool bar was very good and again could not fault the staff.

So glad I chose this hotel

From the moment I walked into the Roca Negra, I felt welocme and 'at home'. A fairly understated frontage led into a friendly Recpetion, with excellent multi-lingual staff who were so helpful.
My room was spacious, clean and had a tremendous sea view looking out unhindered in a southerly direction over the communal pools. Wow!
With my room came free access each day to the Spa and Gym, and I'd included breakfast each day for my stay . . . well that was just amazing. The manageress in the restaurant was excellent - it seemed that nothing would ever bother her, despite the fact that she was catering for so many people. The food was - you guessed it - excellent. So much on offer, all very fresh, all very beautifully prepared. Wow (again)!
The hotel was also frequented (at the time I was there) mostly by Spanish folk - which seemed like a great recommendation to me that I'd chosen well.

Wonderful tbrea at the Rocaa Negra & natural pools

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The hotel had wonderful scenery- volcanic, close to the beach and lovely staff, Gema, the chefs, all the kitchen staff, reception-Kathrina and the cleaning staff.I am sorry I couldn't name all the staff but I thoroughly enjoyed the hotel, walking to the town and natural swimming pools. Also met the owner- he was extremely nice. I'd recommend the hotel but suggest that hiring a car may be handy but then again if you don't want to drive, there are taxis available. One tiny suggestion, having a little electric kettle in the room would be appreciative.

A wonderful hotel with fantastic views of the ocean. Great scenery for couples and perfect for walking . Nice buffet breakfast and lovely staff. Lovely spacious room overlooking the pool and the ocean. Perfect for relaxing and escaping the usual hot spots.

Good Hotel away from the Hussle and Bussle

This is a lovely hotel away from the main towns but in a great costal position. The view of the mountains from the room or pool are fantistic. We had breakfast and several evening meals at the hotel restaurant both giving a good selection. The room was a fair size, AC had to be kept on most nights as it got warm. We didn't use the spa or gym facilities but had a guided tour all looked very nice, staff were very pleasant and helpful. The ironing service was a little expensive, so I purchased a cheap iron and left it near the table tennis for anyone wanting to use it!
