The staff were extremely slow and never listened. Multiple occasions where I ordered something from room service or in the bar, and then had to chase staff 40 minutes later. It was easier to go to reception and get it myself. I tried organising a taxi for when I checked out the next day - reception staff were incapable.

The location is a good spot. Apart from the porter who handled the baggage, staff were indifferent during the stay. This was especially noticed during the breakfast dining time. They lacked the attentiveness and friendliness to customers. Also good portion of the staff had very limited to limited English language for speaking

Lovely setting but very dated.

All the staff were very helpful, friendly and professional. But the hotel itself needs some serious renovation. The bathroom looks like its from the last century, the white tiles are yellow and the ceiling is mouldy. Such a shame a hotel with rich history (yes there's a whole display of it in the foyer) has fallen into its current state.

Elegant and comfortable stay

Hi lovely colonial hotel just outside the town. We had one of the basic rooms but it was very comfortable and spacious - Lots of staff on hand
We eat the restaurant both night and the food was average not particularly to my taste
There are two bars and both had lovely roaring fires in the evening which was very nice to sit and have a cocktail by

This hotel is absolutely beautiful! The staff were great and very helpful. The rooms are great, however they are a little dated. All of the staff were very helpful. The food was good as was the high tea in the salon. My only suggestion would be that the hotel do more to control the temperature of their wine. The hotel has a beautiful walk in wine cellar, but I think it is too warm for the wine.

The shower has no raiser or divider so the floor area gets soaked . They offered a car & driver services saying I would have the best and be protected and their driver took me north instead of my destination in the south and dropped me in a place i did not want to be ! The refunded the trip cost but refused to refund my two nights hotel reservation at my prescribed destination ! I am still out the money !

A decent pick in Nuwara Eliya

We stayed for 2 nights at Jetwing St Andrew's and overall were happy with our stay. We were upgraded on arrival to a large room, with a huge comfortable bed.
The hotel itself is old and you feel a great sense of history. The bar is a great place to relax with a roaring fire and great tunes being played. There is an extensive buffet dinner offered every night which is reasonably price but there are plenty of dining options elsewhere in town.
The gardens of the hotel are lovely but quite small, but even so you can spend some time enjoying them. The hotel offers bird and frog tours with their resident naturist.
The staff on the whole are good and helpful. We did have a problem in that they forgot to pack us breakfast for our early morning trip to Horton Plains. This was incredibly frustrating as we said it's fine not to have food, that we did not want it as we were in a hurry and asked just to be provide with some bananas. We waited 15 minutes for the bananas to find a whole packed lunch provided which we stated at least 3 times that we didn't want. As a result we missed the sunrise that we had got up for and also the unobscured view from Horton Plains which was our whole reason for staying at the hotel! The duty manager was just not listening and more concerned about providing what he was supposed to than what the customer wanted!

The location of the hotel is a bit of a walk into town if you are venturing out but you can cheaply get a tuk tuk.

BED BUGS !!!

My daughter and I stayed 2 nights at the Jetwing St. Andrew's.
The Hotel is well located and has lovely common rooms (bar with fireplace, pool room, etc), however, the room itself was very noisy (could distinctly hear the neighbours and the people walking on the floor above), the bathroom was completely unpractical with water from the shower splashing everywhere and not even a small place to put a toiletry bag and, last but nor least, the beg had bugs. I got my my body covered with bites. Luckily my daughter was sleeping in another bed and wasn't affected. Despite assurance from the manager that I'll receive a partial refund in compensation, nothing happened.
Big disappointment...

PS: the bed bug bites are quite itchy and take about 2 weeks to disappear completely...

The room was clean and adequate, but overall the hotel is tired.

The wifi was extremely poor. The signal was variously weak, intermittent and non-existent. When we told reception that we could only log on with one device, they said it must be something wrong with our phones and to switch off and on again. We sat in the lobby and watched the same story being given to at least four other sets of tourists. There was nothing wrong with our devices, the problem is the wifi at the hotel.

In need of some serious maintenance

A disappointing start where despite booking superior rooms, we were given cramped rooms that were filthy. We did get moved the next day to better rooms after we raised this and the manager came to speak to us directly which we appreciated.

We were taken to our rooms where we had to walk along the back of the kitchens, past dirty sinks, with rat poisoning on the floor and we saw mice running into the guttering the next morning. One room was overlooking overfilled bins and we were woken by workmen at 6am.

All the staff were friendly, helpful and responsive but the standard of accommodation needs serious attention. Bar staff were very helpful and created a warm environment and brought our food to the bar area with a fire as the temperature dropped.

We enjoyed our one night stay. The hotel has a colonial history and is in the old style. It is not by any stretch luxurious - it is well preserved and a little dated - bathrooms especially. However the staff are friendly and helpful and the facilities adequate for the length of our visit.

Overpriced - do not stay here

Paid 3 x the amount of grand so thought would be good - big mistake - food very poor (menu terrible) - tried to charge for things we didn't have. Rooms big but v dated - mould in bathroom....dogs (?) woke me up at 3am fighting. Did not in any way resemble the jetwing we stayed at night b4. I feel robbed. Stay elsewhere - at the grand or similar.

Worst and most expensive room in Sri Lanka

The superior room should really be called inferior room. It is totally different from the pictures on the site.it is very small, furniture and closets look horrible. Tiles in the bath room are cracked.
And that for 180!!!!!!! USD...(high season New year..)
It is plane robbery.
3 star rooms go for 50-70 USD. We normally stay in 100-120 USD hotels.
Spending more money we expected something extra, not lot less.

Worst hotel during 2week stay in Sri Lanka!

The Jetwing looked promising on arrival with fab gardens, however it was short lived! The rooms were big but the bathroom dirty, mouldy,leaking shower/toilet and stank of cigarettes. Breakfast was awful, cockroaches crawling around the food and all food items were barely stocked so you had to keep asking for things. As a foreigner hotel tried to serve tap water and when questioned said you can have a bottle but forgotto mention 130 rupee charge! Overall would not recommend this hotel and its not worthy of it's star rating!

What a disappointment!

I spent a lot of time trying to decide between the St. Andrews and the Grand Hotel. Based on various booking and review sites, I chose St. Andrews. I made the wrong choice. While the outside is lovely, the inside is in need of serious renovation. We went to the Grand Hotel for lunch, and the difference was staggering. I actually asked to see the rooms because I wanted to see if the rooms were as nice as the common areas - they were. Interestingly, we stayed at two other Jetwing properties which we loved (The Vil Uyana in Sigiriya- AMAZING, and Jetwing Yala - great location and pool). Jetwing needs to bring this property up to a better standard.

Wonderful Stay!

Great stay!! Really enjoyed the food, both à la carte and breakfast buffet was delicious!! Plus, the staff made you feel welcomed, they were very friendly and attentive.

Although we didn't have much of a view in our room, the styling of the room was lovely and very spacious!

Overall, a wonderful stay. Would definitely book this hotel again the next time traveling to Nuwara Eliya.

We stayed with Jetwings during Dec 2015 and we were disappointed with the service, the cleaning staff was not even cleaning the bathrooms properly and not refurbishing the towels after making up the room. The rooms were so close and to each other that the feel of privacy was far beyond imagination, and to our bad luck there was a family staying on the same floor which were having 2 or rooms together and for some reasons they thought talking and laughing in the corridor or cross taking between the rooms is norm .. which was such nuisance for us specially my daughter was not able to sleep till late in night an again early morning when this family started shouting in the corridor; but our main disappointment was that even making complains to the front desk few times they were not able to ask them to be quite in the corridors or at least offer us a different room ! Total fail in providing comfort !

The Food in general was very average, even though the breakfast was very good with good options.

The whole experience from checking in to checking out was very good. Jetwing hotels seem to maintain a very good standard across all their hotels. The staff were excellent, especially the restaurant staff. Restaurant food is excellent. Room was spacious and had all essential facilities like tea/coffee maker and safety deposit box. The hotel is located walking distance to the town center.

Highly recommend Jetwing St. Andrews

From the moment we entered the grounds, we were smiling. The gardens are beautiful and well kept, the staff offered us small cups of delicious hot cream of vegetable soup upon arrival, and our room was bright and spacious, with nice little touches. The hotel is full of history. The breakfast buffet was great, with omelettes, waffles and pancakes made on the spot, in addition to a large selection of foods and fruit. All the staff were extremely friendly and professional. The location, right on the golf course, is within walking distance of \"downtown.\" I would definitely stay there again.

They overbooked

They overbooked the hotel and moved us to a lesser rated, older hotel that was less expensive but we didn't receive a credit, we were told the rate was the same. I know this is not true because I consciously decided to pay more to stay at Jetwing because I though at the time it was a better hotel.

Nice hotel

This hotel is nice. It feels a little old in some respects but it is comfortable and relaxing. It's probably best to eat all your meals here as the surrounding town is kind of dumpy. The breakfast set up is a little weird... Instead of doing a la carte, you have to go up to guys cooking eggs and ask for your order... A little unusual but otherwise was a nice stay.

Amazing staff!

Beautiful hotel with a gorgeous view overlooking the town and tea plantations. Staff couldn't do enough for us and were very friendly and helpful. Arranged driver and packed breakfast for our trip to Horton Plains. Food was nice and large selection packed. Lovely welcome package for all guests and some lovely extra touches added for us as it was our honeymoon. Would highly recommend and will be returning if ever return to Sri Lanka!

Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a beautiful garden which is not large but well maintained. we stayed at room no 208, the wooden floor and the bed were shaking and noisy. Other than this hotel is a very good place to stay in Nuwaraeliya.

Most redeeming thing about Nuwara Eliya

Although the hotel is a bit 'tired', the old colonial appeal is charming and I can appreciate the history behind the building. Being greeted by a hot cup of soup after a long day was a welcome surprise and a lovely touch. The food was average but the little bar was full of character and having a blazing fire added to the ambience.

Expedia's info about this place is WRONG!

The info about this room on expedia was incorrect. No rooms have 2 queen beds. Also, there is no spa at this hotel, and according to the staff there never has been a spa.

Hotel in need of serious maintenance work

After reading the various reviews of the hotel, we booked to stay here for one night. We were given a room in the basement as we were told that it was the only place with a double bed. There was a spare mattress left right outside our room. The bathroom had no ventilation whatsoever and as a result really smelt of damp the whole night. It got so bad that we had to keep the door to the room open for an hour or so! When we informed reception about this, they simply said they would speak to Housekeeping! The food was average. The review state that it had undergone a recent renovation but to be honest, this was not really evident and a lot more work needed.

One of the best hotels in Nuwara Eliya

The hotel was welcoming. The room size was decent and the beds were comfortable. The buffet breakfast is amazing! This is one of the 2 best hotels in Nuwara Eliya (the other being Grand Hotel). Will definitely stay here if we visit Nuwara Eliya again. :)

Jetwing St. Andrews - No Value

We stayed here 1 night. When checking-in the staff was totally disorganized & did not service us for 30 mins & we found this unacceptable. In general service was quite lacking for an Asian hotel.

Also, the property is in need of tender loving care & looks the age, compared to the other grand old colonial hotels of this era nearby.

To be surrounded by a garden and stay in a classic hotel with a long history was a nice experience. Just a short walk and you are downtown Nuwara Eliya. We enjoyed the tea experience with Umesh and happily bought delicious tea!

Die Küche ist hervorragend, Speisesaal Bar usw im alten englischen Stil. Der Renovierungsbedarf der Zimmer entspricht einer Billigabsteige: Böden, Türen Fenster und Fliesen stark abgenutzt. Zimmertür hatte oben und unten einen 2 cm Spalt. Schlösser an Toiletten- und Schranktür defekt. Korrodieter Metallschlauch.
