This was the hotel that we really wanted to stay at in the area, and we're glad that we did. Nice view over the water, fantastic staff and the room was kept clean during our stay. However, there were a few small issues with the room that proper maintenance could have kept on top of - the recently repainted door meant that you had to give quite a shove to get into the room, but htat eased over a couple of days! A working safe would have been nice, and the shower provided more water than the drain could cope with (maintenance did come to fix that, and it was previously completely clean, so there was no real sign that there would have been an issue. The response to the issues in the room was faultless, and the small problems were dealt with quickly. They didn't detract from the stay, but were a shame. When back in the area, we would certainly stay here again, to be clear!

So odd to see a phone in a room these days. No menu or room service in the room, no lit on gib . Fridge working with one small bottle of water therein. Excellent views. The only down side was that tourist tax was never mentioned until I checked out. Not an issue really but one like to be told these things at the beginning of the stay and not as your checking out and leaving . All in all a pleasant experience. Exceptionally clean .

The hotel is Central in the country.. it’s accessible and there’s good parking in front of the hotel. The staff was helpful. The rooms are a bit outdated, but they’re very spacious, nothing that would determine me from staying there again. The breakfast was OK not great. The bar has a very limited selection of spirits and drinks, but it was a good experience. I think due to the lack of how many places there are to stay in Gibraltar. This is gonna be your best bet but definitely way overpriced for what it is and it’s definitely not a five star., more like a 3 1/2 star

This was my second visit to this gem in Gibraltar. We stayed for 3 night over Easter, staying in a room with a terrace and views over the bay.

I love the appearance of the hotel, the warm welcome, the location overlooking the Botanical Gardens, the swimming pool and the excellent food. The restaurant offered a wide choice of breakfast items, and a reasonably broad dinner menu. Unlike the last time I was here in 2014, the room safe was free to use - a big step forward.

On arrival we noticed that the floor of our room felt gritty underfoot. Although we asked housekeeping to vacuum the floor the next time they were in, this didn’t happen. In every other way the housekeeping was good: replacing the towels, making the bed, etc. But the floor still felt like it needed a good vacuuming / mopping.

Overall, I still love this hotel and plan to return in the near future.

This was a wonderful historical hotel, which is walking distance to the main shopping area. It is a special destination for those looking for a unique experience while visiting Gibraltar. I do have to forewarn you, Gibraltar is undergoing major construction throughout and the cable car remains under repair making the visit at this time someone less comfortable.

Although the overall stay was good, considering the room rate we expected better. Carpets in the room should be considered as my bed kept moving on the strip wood floor.
The stair carpet was very worn, also the view from the lounge was spoilt due to building works.
Larger and Smart TVs should be provided, the USB source did not work on ours.

We had a great stay at The Rock Hotel. The parking was easy and the staff were really helpful, allowing us to leave the car for the day after we checked out so we could go and explore The Rock. The room was clean and tidy and the balcony was a lovely nature. The room was bit warm due to the aircon system not being switched on, which meant we had to leave our windows open, causing brightness and noise in the room. If I could improve one thing it would be to allow air conditioning all year round. Other than that, we had a brilliant stay here and would definitely return!

The Rock feels a little tattered. A nice hotel to be sure, but it could use a little facelift.
Fantastic location, and Laura at reception was so very helpful.
But little things like…
I asked for ice (no ice machine) and the bartender acted miffed at the request.
Breakfast buffet was mediocre, and dinner was not much better, and expensive to boot.
When we called to say the air conditioning wasn’t working in our room, we were told they shut it off for the entire facility for the winter.
So great views, free parking on-site and a clean room, but quite a few other details were missing.

This hotel is up very steep roads and driveway. If you don’t have transport you might want to consider staying elsewhere. It’s a beautiful old building which, in my opinion, has been ruined by laminate flooring in rooms/shower rooms. In the shower room it is difficult to reach the toilet paper whilst seated, behind you and to the left. There is little space to put your toiletries in there and the towel rail is too high for someone who is 5ft 2in. No shower caps are provided but the toiletries provided by the hotel were very nice. We ate in the bar the first evening and found staff weren’t the friendliest. We had burgers which were ok but dessert was very disappointing. My husband ordered apple pie and custard which came with a spoon of custard, a spoon of ice cream and a squirt of cream. What’s that about? I had parfait which was tasteless and the base was dry sponge. There were small black insects flying around and trying to get at the food and drink. I won’t stay at this hotel again.

-Constant 24hour loud noise, like a giant cement mixer, coming from the port area for all 4 days
-Amazing a hotel like this does not provide a single hook anywhere in the room to hang anything, even your coats
-Daily room refresh and clean completely missed on one day, indifferent reception response with no compensation offered or acknowledged at check out
-No cabs/rank nearby, hotel cannot book any for a time, you have to be ready to go within 15 mins of them calling you one
-Cannot provide a proper town map at reception, only a poor b/w print-out they do on the printer!
-Still an iconic hotel but left rather disappointed unfortunately

Fantastic stay at The Rock Hotel for my husbands 60th birthday. I purchased helium blooms in advance which were placed in the room for him. They went the extra mile and provided champagne and chocolates which was a fantastic touch and my husband was very surprised. We had afternoon tea in the hotel which was lovely and great to have a gluten-free option. We also dined in the hotel restaurant on one evening which was very nice. Beds were very comfortable and a fantastic sea view room. Staff were all extremely polite and helpful.

We arrived via the rock hotel bus stop as taxis are non-existent in Gibraltar and looking up at the hotel you get a very grand feeling but that’s all that’s grand.
The staff were welcoming but we didn’t feel special.
We made our way up to the room and found a letter under the door warning us that the water will be shut off at 11am the next day. The worst part about that letter is that it was covered in ants.

The room was tired and needed a good clean, the floor was old and had traces of what we can assume is ant powder.

After a long day we decided to head down to the bar for a quick bite to eat and the food was average at best. The ceasar salad was just salad and chicken smothered in mayo.

The door had a bizarre locking mechanism which wasn’t explained at all and would leave the room open if not used correctly.

The room had the very basics of what you needed. No spare pillows, no iron etc

Air con was noisy and weak.

The bed was like sleeping on concrete and using breeze blocks for pillows. I ended up sleeping on my jumper to compensate.

The hallways have wooden flooring and you can hear absolutely everything going on in the night. When the room next to us came back and closed the door it sounded like it was our room. A few times throughout the night we woke up to the noise of people returning to their rooms.

when mentioned the ants the next morning it was blissfully ignored as we were told to pay our bill.

I do have a grievance. The personnel was just not up to par with other 4-star hotels. We had to walk out on day one because after waiting nearly 20 minutes, nobody took our order. Second day, while we were waiting for coffee, nobody would come to serve us. I went to the person that was scheduling the tables and I asked for someone to bring our coffees, so what happened was that instead of lattes they brought drip coffee with milk. They still charged us 5,50 pounds for that (which was horrible). Anyway, not coming back to this hotel.

This is the most famous hotel in Gibraltar as far as I’m aware. It’s looking a bit tired and a little pricey,but overall it was a very good experience.
Had a pleasant room with a nice balcony overlooking the water. It has the best shower I have experienced in a hotel.
One negative point is it has the steepest driveway of any hotel I have stayed at.

The beautiful iconic “The Rock Hotel”
This historic hotel is now a little passed its prime. I feel The owners have taken there eye off the ball. It holds so much wonder & there are select few staff members that shine like your expectations would be. None of the staff were unpleasant & most had the correct attitude to guests, but for a premium hotel lacked training & professionalism.
Our room had no electricity in the sockets upon our arrival & tripped (whilst we were not in residence) 3 more times. We were not overloading it as nothing was plugged in. Maintenance did come & assist the first time but as we knew the issue we flipped the breaker ourselves after this.
The safety deposit box wouldn’t lock & there were other general issues that shouldn’t have been present in any hotel.
We only ate in the restaurant once, where the food was not great & I couldn’t eat my prawn thermidor. Unfortunately its taste was just dijon mustard which took away any taste of prawn. The table wasn’t checked on & I was not asked if there was any problem when my full plate was collected. To top the presentation off, at each service all the plated food was practically thrown on our table. This made plenty of noise & food slid to one end of our plates. Mr Ghazis still had complete professionalism inside & out off the hotel (proper mister)

The hotel had a great view and the beds are very comfortable. I gave 3 stars because it was very loud. We could hear the people walking in the room above and the people talking in the room next door. Also the toilet was installed incorrectly , instead of facing outward it was sideways between 2 walls, not comfort table or even possible if you are a tall person, unless you sit on it sideways. I don’t know if all the rooms are like this. We ate dinner in the bar area and the food was so so and the service was not good. All in all it was a nice location and great view.

We had a great time at The Rock hotel! The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, although one member of staff told us that we had to book to use the pool at a cost of £30 each for the day. That was a shock, as it said nothing like that when we booked! However, after speaking to another member of staff a couple of days later, we were told that the pool was free if we were staying at the hotel.

Location: up a steep hill a bit of a walk from the city centre, with lovely views over the harbour towards Spain with the Rock behind.
Room: clean and a good size, has aircon (that isn't pointing directly at the bed so cools the room nicely without you sleeping in a draft). Balcony was lovely to enjoy, shame the guests in the room next door kept smoking on their balcony, forcing me inside. In room fridge was also welcome, I kept drinks in there to keep cool in the hot weather.
Swimming Pool: salt water pool across the road, lovely location with the gardens around and when floating on your back you have a great view of the Rock.
Breakfast: could have been better for the price, especially the coffee, but adequate.
Overall staff were friendly and welcoming, check-in was easy and they were happy for me to leave my suitcase early and go explore. Checkout I had to wait for the staff to finish their smoke break which was somewhat annoying when you've got a flight to catch.

Overall it was very enjoyable, especially the pool. There were some 'niggles' though. The breakfast buffet was quite good, though nothing like so good as many in hotels I have stayed in with a far lesser rating. There wasn't a coffee machine so getting a refill was haphazard at best. Service in both the breakfast room and the bar was bordering on poor with long waits to get any attention. Our room was well maintained and clean and the beds were very comfortable, plenty of storage space too.

Unfortunately our stay was rather disappointing. Our double room would have been fine for one night, or a single person, but not a couple for 5 nights. It was very cramped, rather shabby, and the smallest shower room I’ve ever seen. It should not have been allocated to us. The service was good, if slow at times. The food was very good, breakfast was good value for money. The pool is lovely, even if you have to cross a busy road to get to it. A zebra crossing would be far safer!
Unfortunately, we left a day earlier than we’d booked for, when we told reception we were leaving early because we were uncomfortable, they were not concerned in the slightest. We won’t stay here again, the great food, good service and lovely views do not make up for the negatives for us.

I loved everything EXCEPT the walk up the hill to the property but that's just because I don't exercise..... i'll try harder on my cardio for my next visit.
