Fantastic and responsive staff, excellent food, very nice view from the room overlooking the sea, comfortable room. What we liked less: signing the bills for each drink or meal even though we were all inclusive... boring... lack of entertainment and atmosphere, and when there was entertainment they started too early, while people were eating and couldn't enjoy it, and they finished too early (9:30 p.m.) to be able to enjoy it after eating... and the fact of not being able to take advantage of the all inclusive on the day of departure between the noon check out and the pick up time, asking us to pay for drinks after check out when we spent 10 nights at the all inclusive price is a bit mean

Stayed in a sea view room which was fabulous, great outlook and easy assess to the beach area. Room was spacious and clean. The staff were so friendly and service was really good, a little slow at times but you’re on Zanzibar time so you get used to it.
There was a good few places to venture out to around the hotel and even walking in the village was lovely! Do be prepared to be approached every two mins by the locals but they are all very friendly and do eventually stop and leave you to carry on with your day. Overall we loved our stay in this hotel and would recommend highly to anyone thinking of booking.

I had a wonderful stay at Turaco. The room was nice, there was food variety, the staff were generally nice, and the ambiance was chill.

But I would like suggest few things that could make the experience even better.

1- Improve the Wi-Fi connection, especially at the public places as the connection kept on dropping.

2- Hotel resorts in Nungwi shall come together to clean the beaches and remove the sea weeds at least once a week.

3- improve entertainment include more outdoor games and music.

4- Let customers know in advance that juice and soda are not included in diner to avoid any surprise bills.

Nungwi Turaco resort is an above average property with friendly staff, located right on a lovely beach and convenient to shopping and restaurants. The rooms are a bit dated but overall they are clean. The resort is next to a club that plays loud music although the music usually stops just after midnight. The staff really tries to make your experience favorable and very kind. The all inclusive food options are average. Overall, I recommend this place for a decent vacation.

This hotel and Zanzibar were quite disappointing. Our room was musty/moldy, dirty, dated, noisy and the dead bolt didn’t work. But the biggest issue was the lack of customer service. When I asked to move rooms I was told no, they were sold out (all room categories, I offered to take a lesser category). I went online and saw that they had rooms the next day - their response was that they didn’t know who was checking out so I could check in the morning. In the morning they still didn’t know so check back. Eventually they did move us but that and other things (smokers everywhere, aggressive beach vendors, noisy restaurant/bar next door, seaweed all over the beach, lack of a beach, etc) resulted in a poor overall experience. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel and am surprised Marriott puts their name on it.

But absolutely do not come here if you are coming for any good vibes or party environment. This place is strictly for people who want to be low-key and quiet. No vibes whatsoever.

Stay away from All-Inclusive - Go half-board!

We were there for 2 weeks and had a good time.
Sadly we upgraded to \"all-inclusive\" on arrival and wished we hadn't.
Drinks are overpriced and there are too many restrictions throughout the day when and where you can eat or drink. Sadly, you even had to pay for coffee if you didn't have it at breakfast. The snacks were limited to mini-burgers or pizza - that was it despite there being 10 different snacks on the menu.. Snacks were only available in the afternoon.
We had a deluxe direct sea view room which was nice but the room itself was very tired with not much \"deluxing\" going on. There were several things not right (toilet not fixed to the floor, shaving mirror hanging off the wall and the one chair had no support and you ended up sitting on the floor).. However, these were all rectified okay. It's just indicative of how tired the place is in parts. It sounds like I'm moaning, but I'm not, there was a lot that was really nice and we would return, but just not have the All-Inclusive package as it currently is. The food in the main dining hall is superb and plentiful - lots of choices and fantastic service. There is a premium restaurant that's sadly not included. We would have dined there but they only offered a 20% discount for A-I guests. We thought we would have had at least one meal there as part of our package..
On a pricing note. A 4-star hotel in Stone Town charged us TS 3,000 for a local beer. The same beer at Nungwi Beach Resort was TS 10,000. Not good really..

Wonderful resort!

We stayed here for 5 days and it was so relaxing! The resort is beautifully done with all the amenities: pool, spa, shops, restaurants, entertainment and private beach area with deck chairs for hotel guests. The food was great - We had breakfast included and ate a few time at their Fisherman's Grill restaurant. We saw they also offer half-board or all inclusive with a variety of food choices, if you prefer this option.
The room was lovely and spacious - we booked a seaview room and it was directly on the beach. Had all the amenities, good air conditioning, shower and comfortable bed.
The staff are excellent and so friendly. Always available to help and made our stay perfect! Would happily stay here again!

Ok let’s start with the positive points.

1. The staff are absolutely lovely.
2. The gardens are extremely well looked after
3. The coffee Shop on site is great.
4. The beds are comfortable as they have a great mattress topper on.
5. The bathroom is adequate even if a little dated and tired.

Not so positive

2. The hotel and accommodation is dated tired and in need of repair. The thatched roofs are falling down, and completely dilapidated.
3. The rooms are ok and fairly spacious however the room is in need of a renovation/refurbishment.
4. The windows. On the whole site are dirty including the bedroom patio windows.
5. The stairwells and communal areas leading to bedrooms are dirty.
6. Food is good, (we only booked B&B ) the buffet style restaurant is good and good choice something for everyone.
7. We ate both nights at the fisherman’s Restaurant attached to the hotel. 1st night we had lobster and we were originally sat outside but when the food came we were attacked by 1000 flys so we had the retreat inside. The lobster was good even if a little overcooked.
8. 2nd night we ate there it took over an hour for our food to arrive, and we and another couple were the only people in there.
9. The beach - if you’re going for the beach you will be disappointed as it’s full of rubbish and seaweed. Also the jet ski people drive like idiots, it’s an accident waiting to happen. Also full of beach boys so you get hassle hassle hassle.

Nice hotel but disappointment beach

Pleasant stay if it weren't for the disappointment of the beach.
The hotel is nice and very well maintained. We stayed in an Ocean view room which was magnificent, in front of the beach, with the hammocks right in front of our room. The hotel service is very friendly and they always help you with everything you need. Breakfast is buffet style and complete. Dinner is also buffet style, and should improve the quality and variety.
The wifi failed quite a bit at the beginning, but they did everything possible to fix the problem and they managed to fix it.
Our biggest disappointment was the beach. The 5 days of our stay it was full of seaweed, nothing to do with the hotel's advertising photos where you see a white sand beach and a turquoise blue sea. Swimming on the hotel's beach is almost impossible. At low tide, the beach is full of seaweed and you have to walk more than 300 meters to swim. In fact, nobody swims. At high tide the water reaches the wall and it is dangerous to swim because of the currents. You can only swim for a couple of hours when the tide allows it, but you have to cross the seaweed zone. We chose Nungwi because I read that the northern part of Zanzibar is not affected as much by the tides, but in this area it is affected and we also had the problem of the seaweed. On Kendwa beach, 15 minutes away by car, there is no seaweed and there is a huge white sand beach.

Amazing staff

We have loved our stay at Nungwi Beach by Turaco.
Rooms are so comfy. Air conditioning worked very well. We had a slight maintenance issue which was resolved swiftly and very well.

The food was to our taste. Always fresh fish and pasta. The grill outside was a highlight at dinner in the evening.

Benson, Roger,Stephano, Omar, Emmanuel and others for amazing service in the bars. We never felt thirsty once. Cocktails were amazing, much better than cheap all inclusives in Europe.

Shabhan and Kaimu on the grill and pasta/omellete station was so friendly and welcoming.

James, Divota, Halima and Marko gave fantastic service to us at meal times.

Moses on security was so nice and pleasant.

The only drawback I would say is entertainment and activities included with the stay. We were there 7 nights and there was 4 nights with dancing/singing/acrobats/whirling. We took part in aquagym on just one occasion too. We hoped it could have been being offered everyday but that could have been die to some cloudy/showery conditions in the late mornings.

In summary, the staff make the place so special so make sure you tip well. We would not hesitate to recommend to others.

The food was uninspiring. The television in the room very fuzzy and almost useless. We asked for a fix but none was available. Toilet was not screwed into the floor (Room 128) and was dangerous. We asked for a fix - some guy came by to look but did nothing.
We had all inclusive but many things were not under that plan. Never had an all inclusive where certain items , latte for instance was not included(Except for breakfast)
When we arrive at our room the lock did not work and we had to wait an hour while workmen disassembled the door . That was fine and to the hotels credit they offered to pay for our taxi to the airport ($60) for the inconvenience.
The staff was great but the restaurant in Particular needs a lot of work . I’m have owned 30 full service hotels.
Marriott(Owns the hotel) knows how to do it better.

Excellent spa treatments. The view from the hotel is lovely with gorgeous blue waters.
Overall the food and drink are average at best. We had stayed before a few years back and noticed the decline. With the all inclusive package now, sparkling wine is no longer included along with a number of mixed drinks. Certain foods at the buffet ran out and weren’t refilled.
The air conditioning was broken in our room (it was 104/40 degrees c). We contacted the front desk and requested a room change, but there were no rooms available. They tried to fix the a/c but it still didn’t work. 2 days later we were given another room, along with complimentary massages as an apology, which was a nice touch.
Had a wonderful time with our friends, but have mixed feelings about recommending it again.

Overall the property is in a great location with very good facilities. Food was above average. New Year's eve on the other hand was amazing. Everything was brilliant. Staff were also fantastic. The only gripe with the surrounding areas were that it is very poor and a huge tourist trap. The other gripe with Zanzibar in general is that you are constantly harassed from the beach by locals dancing, selling trinkets and tours - the saving grace for Turaco is that the beach seating is elevated so it mitigates a lot of the harassment. There are no great tours worth doing. Snorkelling with Dolphins is a night mare for you and the dolphins. Scores of boats following them - it was unpleasant and very far on a boat. Over all I would recommend the property for Zanzibar

Completely lack of interest in resolving critical problems. I’m not a person who complains a lot but when the ceiling fan squeaks loudly once per second all the time and I can’t sleep for a week I do complain. Three times actually and staff chooses to do nothing. Not even giving feedback on why it can’t be resolved or trying to solve it with a workaround. A portable desk fan would probably been enough to create an indoor temperature possible to sleep in. Just a “I’m sorry” during checkout. Have never experienced such uninterested service level attention at any 4-5 star property before.

An Okay Stay with a Pricey Dismay

It’s a nice hotel but maybe a bit pricy.

Staff is friendly and the service is good. Security at the beach front feels assuring. Very nice pool and bar. Loved it. Seafront is also amazing and one of the best places to capture the sunset.

Some details; prices on massage is ridiculous high (and try to rip you off), prices on drinks is above average, and one time they mixed up vodka in our gin and tonic.

However I really miss a clear commitment to the community when staying in a resort like this. No sign of any contribution back to the local community. The hotel has not even bothered to fix the road into the hotel. I’m not assured that staying in this hotel sufficiently contributes back to local community.

The resort was great; however, overpriced. The room had a strong smell; we weren't sure whether it was urine or drainage. The in-room telephone did not work therefore we had to go to reception for our queries until it got fixed.

Top notch Zanzibar resort! All of the staff was delightful. The breakfast and dinner had extensive selections to please everyone in our group. We enjoyed the drinks at the pool bar - the bartenders are good at their job! The beach lounge area was beautiful with plenty of chairs for all guests along the beach and along the beautiful pool. The rooms were large and well appointed. The tide goes out midday making swimming at the beach less convenient but we walked around the corner of the island some days (5 minute walk to sandy beach with nearby water) and used the pool other days. Mornings and evenings the beach is easy to swim at the hotel. This was well worth the money spent and we would definitely choose to stay here again for our next Zanzibar vacation!

Cannot recommend this hotel enough. Everything was fantastic. The facilities, the hotel, the staff, the food, the service, the activities, the information available. Everything was set up to make my trip easy and blissful. I never had an issue while there and felt incredibly comfortable. The staff alone is why I recommend staying here, the beach and facilities are extra. Going back to Zanzibar I wouldn't stay anywhere else!!! 5 stars!

This is a alright beach resort, a little outdated for the price-range, and not possibly a 4* hotel. Beautiful garden. The beach is very affected by the tides and the water is muggy as the tides change. Better swimming conditions around Royal and Kendwa beach. We had all-inclusive option, good variety of foods and drinks, though the drinks' option is limited to specific selection from the menu. Room was clean, but interior is outdated. The road that takes you from the village to the hotel is awful with huge holes that the cars need to pass very carefully and slowly. It is a disgrace that a 4* hotel does not make any effort to upgrade the local road, if not for its customers, then as a contribution to locals' welfare.

Everyone on the staff was so helpful and friendly. The food was excellent and the pool was lovely. My only recommendations for improvement is that the room smelled a bit mildewy when I first checked in, but keeping the a/c running helped. The bed was a bit soft too. Also, the bartenders are good, but it is never quick to order any of the mixed drinks. I think they could speed up the process by having some of the ingredients pre-mixed. I also think the directions for driving in the dark to the hotel could be improved. We definitely got lost trying once the asphalt ended in Nungwi.

I highly recomment KENDWA beach if you are going on holidays to swim and enjoy, the beach in nugwi -especially at this property- is not good. not only its dirty, but you can only swim for an hour or two before high tide comes, and when its low tide (which is the case almost all day) the beach is dirty full of algee and not accessible, its like walking in mud puddles to get to the water.

Unfortunately we have not enjoyed our stay, we truly believe that the pictures online were deceiving as was the description provided of our room. We considered cancelling our booking on arrival however that did not seem to be an option due to cancellation cost. Overall the cost of our stay has not been a good value of our money.

During our travels in Zanzibar we have stayed at many hotels with less stars and of a cheaper pricer, yet the stay and service was more pleasant. I was rudely welcomed at Double Tree and was encouraged to upgrade to half board or full board with prices that seemed to have been changed on the spot. I would however like to mention, that breakfast is of good standard, it has been the only pleasant experience due the variety of options available.

This hotel does not live up to the brand standards of Hilton that we expected. I would advise you to book elsewhere to get a better value for money.

The staff went Out of their way to make our stay fantastic. They are friendly and helpfull and the hotel is located in beautefull surroundings.
The breakfest was very good, and lunch and dinner was ok. All in all a great stay (4 days)

The resort / facilities and staff were great and made our trip very enjoyable. We were much less impressed with the room. Our bed was very uncomfortable and our shower drain was blocked enough that we ended showers standing in water. Overall, more pros than cons despite these issues.

The hotel is excellent. I very much enjoyed the hotel and its facilities. I made three good friends during my visit. I want to recognize the staff for going above and beyond to ensure I was cared for during my stay. I wish to point out one bellman in particular. Nassan greeted me each day and asked if there was anything he could do for me to improve my stay. He is so cheerful he gave me a good boost each time I met him.

I did not like the approach to the property. The public area outside the hotel is somewhat of a poor area and the access road is not paved and is in poor condition.

This is the best vacation experience of my life. My expectations were exceeded. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a nicely baked cookie and juice. The ocean view room was worth it ! I’ve never made so many friends and genuine human connection within a short period in my life - 2 days.

We only stayed for two days, but we had an absolute blast! Not only is this a stunning place to stay, but the staff were incredibly helpful and kind. We always felt taken care of, and all staff made us feel welcome from upper management to pool boys and cleaning staff. One member even made us a local bouquet of flowers for our birthday! The pool is fantastic, the beach and ocean even better. The food is tasty, and we highly recommend doing some sort of all-inclusive package. We had one hiccup but it wasn't all that bad. The hotel takes American Express, but the stores and services within the hotel do not, so massages, souvenirs, or drinks will need to be paid with cash or visa cards. It was a lovely stay, we wish we had more time. We told all the staff to plan on us next year (yes, during rainy season) only with our friends and family!

Under thr Hilton standards. I duggesr if yoi allergic to cats don't go there There was cats everywhere disturbing you while you eat and most of the buffet food cold and hard and shower in room would not drain and rust and old maintenance in room bathroom. No door guard under front door so lizard get in your room and early morning hotalks staff talking right outsude your door so loud it wakes you. The only thing good was the bed and the food on the grill. The place Definately is not a 4 start more like 3 star.

This hotel leaves a lot to be desired. It was probably the best hotel on the strip in the 70s but now it is badly in need of an upgrade. The sheets and towels are obviously old and need to be replaced. There is wood paneling all over the rooms that absorbs moisture (it rains a lot in this tropical destination) and has caused mold throughout the rooms. Their covid policy seems to be so exaggerated that the food here was the worst I've had on the island. The one saving grace is that the staff is absolutely amazing. They really try their best but they can't turn water into wine. I would never stay here again.

The Double Tree was an amazing experience for my wife and I. The staff was simply amazing, they made sure to meet and exceed all of our expectations. The pictures online does this place no justice because this place is a paradise. The customer service is the best I have ever experienced in all my travels around the world. I will definitely be back to Zanzibar and when I go back my accommodation will be the Double Tree by Hilton in Nungwi!!!

Great location and service but interior is a bit dated and could do with a revamp. Ideal for direct access onto the beach. The drive up to lthe gates of the hotel is disappointingly bad and this needs to be addressed. Breakfasts were 7/10 with the fruit and egg stations scoring best. Pity that the juices are not pure.
