Great location with a few minute walk to the beach or direct access down the stairs during low tide! The staff were great and they were also able to organize all the activities I wanted on the spot like local fishing and sunset sailing. This was the perfect place to relax for a few days at the end of the trip!

The room was a ‘love shack’ on the beach which was nice, stepped out straight onto the sand with nice sea views. Staff were friendly and it has a pool. The inside layout of the room is totally open (no door on the toilet just a half partition wall) so you’re in for an intimate stay! The rest of the hotel felt confused, there are surfing motifs as decorations, it’s for families (lots of kids) so it’s not quiet and romantic; the food was unfortunately the worst we had any hotel we stayed in Zanzibar. We also wished we stayed closed to Nungwi as we had to spend $10 each way on a taxi. It’s the one hotel we wouldn’t stay again sadly. Loads of potential I just think they need to figure out their ‘vibe’.

This hotel offers a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere with beautifully kept grounds, attentive staff, delicious menu items, and beautiful ocean views. It is very close to the bustling Nungwi area, where you will find shopping, restaurants, and fun boating trips, or you can simply enjoy the pool and lounge area, volleyball, and other activities. Great hotel for anyone seeking a breezy relaxing vacation. I had a great time!

The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean.
However, it was disappointing that the pool was salt water and small especially considering that at this time of year there is no beach due (I gather from the staff) to the wind direction and depending on the tide it can be a fair walk to the sea.
We had problems with our AC, the staff were helpful in getting it working but it was not very efficient.
The resort prides itself on sustainable eco friendly tourism which is absolutely great so I was surprised when the waitress brought us bottled water (for $2.50 US) at dinner rather than a jug of the bulk mineral water (free) which the manager had shown me to cut down on plastic bottles.
The ambiance of the resort is good and the location on the edge of Nungwi is a great mix of quiet with lively restaurants close by.

the room was good, however, we were there for 2 nights, the room was okay but we experienced power outages constantly through out our stay, at one point the power was out for at least 3 hours, i was told it was due to the area outages but they advertise having generators so that did not make sense to us, since we came during peak hot season. also the menu was the same for the 2 days we were there and I was not informed that soda's were not part of the full board package that we paid for. we could not utilize the beach due to corals and sea urchins. not a kids friendly hotel,

We stayed at the Zanzibari for 8 nights and we were very happy with our suite, very spacious and quite clean but not so happy about the service as it has been quite slow and the food menu has been the same all over our stay. We would have appreciated better choice and variety for breakfast and dinner.
We appreciated the late check out free of charge but we have never been asked how was our stay, if everything was ok.

We stayed for 4 nights as a family of four in the Bustani Suite and had a wonderful experience. The suite was very spacious with comfortable beds, and it was cleaned daily to a high standard. The staff were exceptionally polite and helpful, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived.

Breakfast was a real highlight each day, with fresh and delicious fruit and juices that we all looked forward to. The hotel itself is beautifully situated in a quiet and peaceful area, with stunning ocean views that added to the relaxed atmosphere.
We felt safe and very well looked after throughout our stay. Thank you for making our visit so enjoyable and stress-free—we hope to return again!

Start with the hotel was beautiful! I was walking with a complementary juice. The staff was so nice and welcoming to me and they took my luggage and show me my room and later I had dinner which was amazing and their breakfast is also good. I only stayed for one night but it was a wonderful experience. The property has amazing views and a great to sun bathe. Definitely a Top stay in the Zanzibar area!

It was not a problem for us, but variety on breakfast is limited (at least the days we stayed there).

An oasis in a busy little beach town.

The staff at the Zanzibari hotel were exceptionally attentive and the service was always prompt. In a place where the main beach can be over run with tourists, it was such a pleasure to step into the quiet oasis that is the Zanzibari hotel grounds.
This is a great gem of a property in Nungwi and would only improvements would be to upgrade the quality of the food, which was \"safe\" but very bland and to upgrade the plumbing issues in unit OC1.

We were staying in a magnificient large room on the GF facing the ocean. We had breakfast, snacks and dined at the hotel. The food was excellent so were the cocktails. We enjoyed all the hotel had to offer however a few minor points:
1. Staff although super friendly and diligent had to be chased for. The hotel is understaffed
2. On the day we left, the road to the hotel was blocked and we found out at the last minute
3. We paid 2 nights we could not use due to a late flight in and an outward ferry out too early. Management was not available to refund 1 $ nor to provide any discount of our final bill as a commercial gesture.
4. The beach was nice but full of urchins (the hotel did provide water shoes for free though).
5. Despite many Kungurus and due to low staffing it always took quite a while for dirty dishes to be collected which attracted these horibble birds.
We shall explore other hotels in the area when we return...

Nice hotel at a great value. The grounds are nice and the staff was friendly. The water is separate from the actual sand. You can access the water via a stair case and I would recommend water shoes as it is a rocky sea floor. The service is a bit slow so FYI.

This is a great hotel to escape for a week. Beautiful territory with a great private beach and fairly easy access to the ocean. You MUST!!! Absolutely must wear swimming shoes going to the ocean, as there are a lot of sea urchins - ask hotel for the footwear, they’ll gladly provide free of charge. Hotel offers a great bar (good cocktails and a happy hour) and a swimming pool. Staff is friendly and happy to help (waitress Trida was absolutely fantastic - caring and always ready to help). Room was good, relatively small, but we came to see the ocean and enjoy sun, not the room. It has a good insect protection and staff comes to spray out anti insect protection too. Overall, I enjoyed all aspects of the stay and would gladly recommend this hotel for a stay. And yes, they serve great seafood at a very reasonable price.

A place that feels like family

The hotel is 4.5 stars for luxury. It doesn't have the opulence (or cost) of Essque next door. But it has the feeling of family intimacy and warmth and caring that, to me, is worth far more than opulence. For example, my arrival flight to Zanzibar was delayed for hours. The hotel driver stayed at the airport for hours waiting for me, with frequent communication between me and the reception manager, Khatib. Khatib stayed until 10:30 at night until I arrived, and then suggested I check in the next morning so I could sleep first (but offered me food in case I was hungry). My walking tour of the village was done by the hotel manager, who introduced me to the weavers, fishermen, and boat repair people he's known for 20 years, giving me chance to try my skills at these tasks. This was a personal, not a commercial experience. I booked only the breakfast (half board), which was excellent with many choices. I then also ate all my dinners at the outdoor, covered, hotel restaurant because the food was so good, reasonably priced, and convenient. When I checked out after a 3 day stay I accidentally left a credit card that was found by housekeeping. Khatib called me that afternoon and took a taxi 1 1/2 hours (each way) to Stonetown to personally deliver my card to me at my next hotel. The staff at the hotel included me as part of their family. My observations of interactions with other guests is that this was not unique to me, but is part of the culture.

Strangely, not many taxi drivers knew how to get there from Stonetown, best to contact the hotel directly to arrange a transfer to get there. The local zoo is also well worth a visit. A great place for couples and families, a little quiet for solo travellers but I still had a good visit.

Beautiful paradise at the Indian Ocean

I was visiting with my mother, brother his wife and their 1.5 year old son. We lived in the Frangipani suite which was our own villa with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and an outside living room at the 2:nd floor of the villa. At the 1st floor you had your own garden with a private pool. Both the 1st and 2nd floor had an amazing view over the Indian Ocean. You could hear the waves from the ocean when you were falling asleep and waking up.

The hotel area was dreamish, luxurious, very green, a nice pool with a bar, also with amazing views over the Indian Ocean, the garden is so big that it almost feels like you have the hotel for yourself. Easy access for a swim in the Indian Ocean from the hotel with stairs down to the beach. You could also run on the beach during low tide.

The seafood salad and tuna salad was very pleasant for dinner and our favorites on the menu. But they had many other nice options too.

The staff was very friendly and relaxed, they made you feel at home at the hotel, they felt more like friends than staff.

A tropical paradise

The Zanzibari is an enchanted getaway. It has very beautiful grounds with its own cliff beach. We are a family of 5 and just came off a safari and found it so peaceful and relaxing. The service and food was top notch. It is away from the action, but you can call for a taxi and be where there is a lot of activity and tourists only 15 minutes away. It is 1 1/2 hours from Stonetown which is a bit far, but you can still get a boat that picks you up from the Zanzibari and will take you to an island for snorkeling and some time on a sand bar. There is also a sunset boat cruise 15 minutes away. The room was so good, my teenaged, 20 something kids did not want to leave to go anywhere! If you are looking for a lush, tropical getaway with high quality rooms that is not too far from the tourist area, this is the place. I highly recommend the Zanzibari

I have lived at some of the best hotels across the world and would say the service I experienced at this hotel was the best I've seen yet. The staff and hotel personnel were extremely accommodating and helped us with any request we had or help we needed. They were highly service minded and their kind, genuine, and happy appearance made our first trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar very special. The hotel held high standards and we highly enjoyed our stay there. It felt very safe, luxurious, genuine, authentic, personal and really gave us the real Tanzania and Zanzibar experience. My partner had his birthday during the stay and the personnel arranged an exquisite breakfast and birthday cake in the room, as well as a karaoke night and traditional Tanzanian dance.
We were especially impressed by a young servant who always smiled and provided high quality service, as well as the charming manager we met during our breakfast. Both of which helped arrange my partner's birthday.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Zanzibari. We felt welcome and home from the first minute. The property is beautiful and super quiet. You can walk on the beach to Nungwi or Kendwa when the tide is low or take a taxi/motobike for just a few dollars. The staff is super friendly, always smiling and very attentive. It is a rather small hotel with only few rooms so you feel like a little family. We definitely recommend staying at The Zanzibari and Zanzibar in general. From check in to check out this place was wonderful ! Each staff member came up to introduce themselves to us as we roamed this beautiful property and really made sure we felt at home! We had the family style villa which was just the best and every day the cleaning staff came to not only clean everything for us but even had a turn down service at night where they sprayed for any bugs and put down our bug nets etc . We had great WiFi and saw others on property working during the day sometimes or laying out by the beautiful beach with the endless amounts of beach chairs , swings etc . We ended up liking the property so much that we opted even to stay there to relax more then to explore as that was end of our big trip and it felt great to just relax .
The food was great as well as the drinks and they had a great system of just writing your food and drinks down and starting a hotel tab per say and letting you pay at end which if your someone that has a international charge on your card paying once was super helpful or just dealing with cash one time . A heads up you are pretty far from airport so a driver or shuttle is a must but don’t stress the hotel has one for you if you havnt made arrangements and charge same as anyone else so even that is taken care of if needed . All said and done I highly recommend staying here specially if your looking to relax towards end of your trip :)

We came to this hotel for a honeymoon and it was really the prefect place for that. It's a calm and quiet, luxury paradise. The best aspect of Zanzibari is the staff who's so friendly and helpful. Everyone was extremely nice and full of care to us. I have to mention the breakfast as a high point as well.
If we come back to Zanzibar, we will definitely come back here without any hesitation!

The views are amazing, the facilities are clean and spacious. The viewing spots for the ocean are numerous and comfortable. The pool is big and clean. I was there in September, was maybe 1 other guest in the property, I had the entire resort to myself.

Hidden gem

My fiancee and I got engaged in this hidden gem. Spotless little resort with quiet and clean rooms, good quality food and plenty of romantic and private corners. The staff organized a maasai ritual for our engagement which made it extra special. The private access to the sea with no one coming from the outsize was also a pleasant factor. The beach is made of shallow water which requires some walking to get to deep waters. Be aware of the sea urchins, but they do warn you and make sure you wear beach shoes!
The staff was very friendly and professional. The maasai security guards are super friendly and polite too. Overall an outstanding place.

Relaxing and friendly stay in Nungwi

We stayed here for 4 nights and had a great experience, staying in a beach front villa. The villa had an amazing front garden with pool and sun loungers- almost on the beach, providing great views.
The staff were excellent, all very welcoming and friendly and ensured a smooth and comfortable stay. As there are not many rooms and good amount of space, it has a very peaceful vibe- there is not much passing foot traffic along the beach either as it is a little further out from Nungwi than most of the beach front hotels. This does mean you are quite far away from the action- either a long beach walk or 5 minute taxi (we paid around $5 for taxi from centre of Nungwi back to hotel)
There are limited dining options outside the hotel - other than neighbouring hotels, but the food at the hotel restaurant was enjoyable and the dinner menu changed daily with several options.Would definitely stay here again!

The staff were very warm and friendly, helpful and informative, a special mention to Abdullah. The facilities felt authentic and gave a rich feel of the culture and traditions. Unfortunately we went during the season when the beach at the hotel was naturally without much sand, however the pool was great and there are other beaches nearby. The food was awesome. Excellent overall experience!

Hotel is well maintained and the location is good.

One of the Managers went above and beyond to make our stay extra special, organising a boat trip to a private island and snorkeling on the way. They also always made sure we were set up with transport back to the hotel late at night after nights out. One of the Managers also accompanied us to Stone Town on our way to the airport to personally show us around. What a treat!

Food and drinks were good, but service was slow. Pole Pole (slowly slowly) seems to be the way in Tanzania :-)

The one negative was the spa. It is not a full spa, but a little open bungalow on the beach. The spa staff are not trained and services are advertised which they cannot provide. If you just want a simple massage, then it's fine, but I would not recommend any other service.

We had a great time as a cool down after our Safari;. the accommodation was excellent and so was the breakfast.. We were able to arrange a trip to Stone Town at the hotel at a very reasonable cost. The location is great with a restaurant onsite as well as nearby. The beach there is not the best, but there's a fantastic beach nearby--clear waters, no seaweed or rocks. We had a great time, staying at this hotel!!!

Beautiful facilities, beach, and great service. The area the resort is in doesn’t have a direct view of the sunset over the water, you need to go to neighboring beaches which aren’t far (10 min taxi/walk).

Extremely relaxation and great for honey moons. If you’re there for nightlife, I might suggest hotel in Nugwi.

This place was delightful. Is stayed with my boyfriend there for 4 nights in mid-March. The staff were lovely. Very professional and friendly.

We are both vegan and the food they prepared for us, including breakfast, was tasty! They even got us some soya milk. Loved the cooked breakfasts and the stuffed chapatis were lovely. Happy hour cocktails were also delicious.

We had a deep tissue massage by the sea and it was honestly the best massage I have ever had. The in-house masseuse was great.

The room was clean and comfortable with some very thoughtful additions e.g. flowers. Only problem is that the bed is very creaky. Just turning over might sound like the bed is about the break.

One thing to note is that this hotel is not in the centre of Nungwi town, where all the restaurants, shops and bars are. We didn't mind this. In fact, it was nice to be away from it all but only a 30min walk away on the beach.

This gorgeous resort was a beautiful place to stay in Nungwi. The staff were extremely friendly and nothing was ever too much for them. They all went above and beyond for your needs. We even played volleyball against the staff. We had such a lovely stay there and would highly recommend to stay here.

No TV in the room no Fridge , don’t change the towels , The worst restaurant service ever the food is frozen and takes over 1 hour and 3 minutes for the food to be ready after you order there is only 1 chef working for 3 shifts and 1 person doing all the roles Receptionist/Manager/Desk lady/Conceirge . The resort is dead and always Empty and the prices are too high for everything they do with their low quality services .
