What a great spot! The entire property is charming, wonderful restaurant, rum bar, pool, and river access. The staff was incredibly helpful, helping us plan a sunset river cruise and secure transfers to and from the airport. Highly recommend.

Grounds maintenance was uneven, some okay near pool and river and other areas not well taken care of.

We stayed in 2 rooms. The second seemed cleaner and nicer than the first, but had a broken sink plug mechanism.

Hotel is not near anything.

Friendly and laid back resort on the Belize river. My wife and stayed for 3 nights, and enjoyed lounging by the pool and taking an all day trip to Lamanai as well as a local river cruise. Amazing wildlife! We saw howler monkeys, iguanas, parrots and countless other birds in the resort itself. The restaurant at the resort is quite good. We also appreciated the location just 20 minutes from the airport (although it feels very secluded)

Perfect hotel for the last night before leaving to the airport. They arranged an early morning shuttle, and a pickup from the water taxi and tour of the monkey sanctuary the day before. Then I relaxed poolside and had a delicious dinner in the restaurant. A very peaceful place on the river. The sound of the monkeys at night was fascinating!

The sidewalls of the king mattress in riverfront room T4 were completely collapsed on both sides, resulting in a very disconcerting feeling that we would roll off! We managed to shove bath robes under each side to reduce the issue. Since a comfortable bed is expected when paying a premium rate, 3 stars is all we can give. Otherwise, the resort had congenial staff, a decent restaurant, and a quiet, peaceful riverfront location.

What stood out most was how naturally the property fits into its surroundings. The pool area feels open and relaxed, surrounded by palms and jungle. We spent time swimming, having drinks by the pool, and settling into the quiet. The food and cocktails were consistently strong, and even the local wildlife, including an iguana wandering through, added to the experience. The staff were welcoming and attentive without hovering, which made the stay feel easy and comfortable.
The morning river tour with Edmund was a highlight. We saw howler monkeys, crocodiles, and a wide range of birds, but what made it exceptional was the depth of history he shared about Burrell Boom. Hearing it from someone who grew up there, and even seeing a copy of his family’s land title from the 1800s, added a level of authenticity you cannot manufacture.

Black Orchid Resort is a lovely, peaceful property tucked away in a beautiful natural setting. One of the standout highlights is the small family of howler monkeys living right on the property—hearing and seeing them is a special, memorable bonus and really adds to the experience.

That said, there are some areas that could use attention. The bed was not very comfortable and made noticeable noise with movement. The headboard is also a bit of a safety concern; the exposed logs are positioned in a way that makes it easy to hit your head.

The restaurant menu was unfortunately a major point of frustration. Some items are described as including vegetables and “chef-selected rice or potatoes,” yet when the dish arrived without these components, we were told it was simply a typo on the menu. If the menu isn’t going to be corrected, servers should clearly explain this at the time of ordering. Similarly, the pancakes are listed as chocolate but were served as plain pancakes, and when asked about it, the concern was dismissed with the insistence that what was served was correct—despite the menu description. There were also multiple instances where extra ingredients, such as onions, were added to dishes without being mentioned beforehand.

The location is very secluded, which is both a plus and a minus. It’s perfect if you’re looking to disconnect, but be prepared for transportation costs.

On a positive note, the gentleman at the front desk is an absolute doll and deserves a raise.

What a beautiful resort! Kaleb was our host checking in. Very professional and friendly. There was a small issue with our room, but it was quickly rectified beyond our expectations. The rooms were immaculate, spacious and had everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The grounds were absolutely gorgeous with giant iguanas running around. We dined at the restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. We had a chance to interact with the owner Beverly and she was wonderful and gracious. Upon checking out, I interacted with Dryane, again, very professional and friendly. I chose this location as it was close to both Altun Ha and the Baboon sanctuary, which both come highly recommended from me. Black Orchid is a wonderful place to stay. I hope to return someday.

This hotel was exactly what we needed for our first night in Belize. Clean, comfortable, quiet, and very friendly staff all around. We used this hotel as a first night launchpad since we arrived later in the day and didn't want to drive the two hours in the dark to San Ignacio. Much nicer grounds and pool than we expected and we were very happy with our dinner (fish and shrimp dishes) and great breakfast. This is a perfect place to stay on the front or back end of a trip to be close to the airport, or even to stay for a couple of days for nearby excursions!

Nice, typically rustic Belize style resort. Everyone working there that we interacted with was friendly. Very few rooms occupied the two nights we were there (5 rooms the second night and less than that the first night it seemed), which was good in some ways but not great for the resort. It seems they don't use dynamic pricing because I would have stayed another night if the price wasn't so much higher for the Saturday night stay even though I was told they only had 10 rooms booked for Saturday. The restaurant was good--you pretty much have to eat there unless you want to drive a long way. It would have been nice if the server had told us at breakfast that each coffee refill was an additional charge so we could take that into consideration before asking for more. The Spa on the rooftop which looked like a nice place to relax didn't work but other than that everything was as expected and nice. One of the owners was often around and very friendly.

I woke up with my abdomen and back covered in bug bites that came from my one night stay. Housekeeping unlocked and opened my door while I was changing at 10:00 the morning of my check out. I had to yell that I was still in the room so they would leave. That made me feel extremely unsafe and when I made a comment about to th front desk they had nothing to say about it. I’d like a refund.

Get away from the world here.

This is an isolated resort. No real public transportation in the area. Pretty much no other attractions or restaurants around. There is a nice pool. The service and food was good but limited to what is on the menu. Grounds are kept in good condition. If you are looking for a peaceful place to relax and get away from the world this is the spot for you. Free shuttle service to the airport is offered.

We loved our stay here for two nights. It was peaceful, quiet, and very laid back.

The pool was refreshing and quite. Pool side cocktails were great!

Our room as rather large and river front. Super nice!

We spent a lot of time with Edmund, and he was absolutely wonderful. He gave us a tour to the Baboon Sanctuary. He is local and very knowledgeable. He was also our shuttle driver from Belize City and back to the airport when we left.

Our waitstaff was amazing as well. We celebrated our 3rd anniversary here and they made it extra special. The food was really tasty.

We even had Howler Monkey's on property one night. Super fun.

It is a lovely property, reasonably priced with full service restaurant, bar and pool. My room was comfortable and large, staff was really nice, great service. Set on a river and you can experience the howler monkeys. Will come back as it is close enough to the airport for early departures or late arrivals. Can handle large groups but I came here solo, perfectly safe!

Our flight was canceled due to weather and we had to extend our stay in Belize. The staff at Black Orchid made this extra day of what could’ve been a huge frustration the best part of our time in Belize! Mariano, Ashanti, and Edmond were the most amazing hosts! Can’t say enough about how wonderful the staff here is. There were probably 10 of us that showed up last minute due to mass flight cancellations and the Black Orchid team lept into action to make this an amazing experience! Thanks to the owners who treat their staff so well and for Mariano, Ashanti, Edmond, front desk and chef that took such great care of us. The stay here and the river cruise we took from the resort was the most memorable experience we had in Belize. 10 stars!!!

We had a great stay at the Black Orchid, beautiful location by the river and close to the airport. Staff were very friendly and the room was comfortable.
A troupe of howler monkeys were right outside the restaurant!
There were quite a a few mosquitos around dusk and at night, so bring your bug spray!

The property looks like it had better days and was probably at it's prime about 10 years ago. The sky deck is no longer maintained which is unfortunate as it has a fantastic tree height view of howler monkeys. Canoe's were old and un-maintained. Food good. Pool area good. No pickup at Airport even when confirmed twice that a pickup would occur. Good for 1 or 2 nights only as there isn't anything to do in the area, unless you want to take tours offsite.

We had a lovely stay at The Black Orchid. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The location by the river is very nice and you can hear and see monkeys at the property.
There isn’t much walkable nearby. The Iguana Stop next door is excellent. Beyond that there isn’t much in Burrell Boom. The hotel will provide a shuttle to other locations, at an additional cost. There are no bicycles or canoes.

Mariano, the manager is whom and what made our stay so wonderful. It's conveniently located close to the airport. The property needs a little dusting (TLC) but has character with a beautiful view of the river. Good restaurant and bar on property makes it very convenient. Overall I have no problems recommending to stay there.
