The property and WOTIF falsely advertise the property. There was no roof top restaurant, bar or room service.
I was given a 2 bedroom apartment.
The kitchen had no crockery, cutlery or cleaning equipment and the sink and tap area were not clean.
The bathroom had towels that were old, stained, thin, small and of poor quality. There was no soap provided in the bathrooms.
The bedrooms were adequate but again, there sheeting and covers were stained and main bed was very hard.
There was no air conditioning in the main living areas but had it in the bedroom which was loud.
One of the female reception staff was rude and was unhelpful when I needed assistance - she advised me that she was not obligated to help me.
I had to go to reception to ask about wifi and internet connection. I was given a password but was unable to connect to the wifi.
Overall, I would not recommend Umalas Hotel and Residence and therefore requesting a refund on the property.
Could somebody please call me to discuss further as this property was not up to standard. Thankyou, I would appreciate a manager to call and discuss. Thank you kindly.

I liked friendly staff, quick request response service and assistance, tasty Bfast.
It will be good if they can top up toiletries daily without guest needing to ask and also put label in front of the food and allergies ingridents or egg/ no egg in food.

In our week's stay, we had to change rooms 3 times. In the first room they put us in, upon walking in, we were impressed by the big size of the rooms, more like an apartment. This was Room 1006. Soon, we discovered we had no hot water, there was a leak under the basin and the light outside the bedroom would not turn off. We also had no pool view which was our request when making the booking. The next day, we were moved to room No. 2017. Still no direct pool view. The air conditioner in the room leaked and had wet most of our clothes in the wardrobe directly under the air conditioner! To fix the air conditioner, the maintenance guy just put a plastic container to catch the drips and it made an awful dripping sound, in which it would have been very disturbing to try and sleep with. The bathroom light was very dim, so as a solution, they put up a fluorescent light, which straight away fell & hurt my wifes hand when she caught it. Apparently, they had it just balancing on a loose screw!!!! (so dangerous).
The air conditioner in the lounge room also needed fixing but instead they made it very noisy!
Tiles were missing from the pool. Wi-fi was very bad. No hairdryer supplied unless requested and you had to pay for a deposit. The fixed shower head is only good for short people. After every shower, the bathroom floor would get flooded.

Water also was leaking from the ceiling one evening. There was no plug in the basin in the bathroom, leaving a huge hole in the drain.

Awesome area to stay in Bali...

Awesome area to stay in Bali... The Umalas area still has the old Bali feel... The hotel has friendly service and in its day, would have been a beautiful hotel, but sadly it hasn’t been very well maintained... It’s a little run down and has Ann old fashioned look and feel... It really needs a little makeover and to be restored to its former glory... The deck around the pool is dangerous and desperately need replacing! The AC’s were extremely noisy! linen and towels altho clean, were old and tied... The wifi was impossible to login too and not worth using... if they fix these few things it would be a great place to stay!

Nice hotel staff & good food, poor room quality

The staff was extremely friendly and nice, and the food at the hotel restaurant is really good. But the actual room wasn’t as great. My bathroom was clean, but it didn’t look the best. The WiFi dropped repeatedly. And there was construction outside my room, which made it difficult to just relax in the room when I wanted a break from sightseeing. There were also a number of appliances that malfunctioned during my stay, including the TV and the safe. The price was cheap, so it’s a good option if you’re low on cash. But I wouldn’t stay here again, if I have a chance to return to Bali.

Some highs but one major low.

We stayed at Umalas Hotel and Residence for three weeks and found it to be mostly a positive experience.
The high points would be the excellent staff, all very friendly and willing to help out in any way they can.
The low point would be it's a bit old and tired and it also has just about the worst Wi-Fi internet connection we have ever tried to use, slow, unsecure and it either drops out constantly or doesn't connect up at all, it's truly dreadful and if you want or need Wi-Fi in a hotel, well do not come here, just straight away look elsewhere, it's really not up to scratch.
Arriving late one night the reception desk arranged a welcome drink for us while we filled in the paperwork, it's pretty standard stuff in Asia but still a nice touch.
The rooms themselves, or a least our one bedroom room on the first floor was decidedly odd in layout and equipment.
There is a small kitchenette in the living space, it has a microwave and fridge but there is nothing much in they way of cooking or eating utensils, the front desk staff will provide anything you ask for though, like plates, bowls, tea-towels etc.
Also in the living space is a lounge and a TV and that's where it starts to get weird.
The TV is mounted onto a wall and the lounge is sitting under it but a right angles, you can't actually sit on the lounge and watch the television unless you do as we did and drag the lounge across the room and push it up against the wall facing the TV.

Nice hotel, not so nice location

Rooms are big and comfy, AC in every space. Beautiful restaurant in the terrace with nice Indonesian food, although a bit slow. Helpful staff are ok with English. Best parts are breakfast and the pool, super clean and with jacuzzi. location is not the best, but you can take an Uber easily and cheap to the beach (not so good) or the centre in about 20min.

Decent hotel with great service.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom suite and it was very spacious on the ground floor. We stayed for 12 days and the staff was very helpful if we had any complaints.

We are staying in one bedroom type. The hotel and service was good.. And has great pool. However breakfast not sp good and served ala carte in small potion, maybe because not many guest choose with breakfast. Room condition and kitchenete is perfect, comfy bed, but bathroom has smell odour.. Need maintenance on that.

Hotel is not in seminyak is further out on jungle border. Rooms had no facilities or utensils for making food or drinks. Bathrooms were the worst feature of the room and covered in mould

Nice hotel, friendly staff but I was stuck in a room at the very back where the wifi was poor and the staff congregated in the mornings.. No real view. The hotel was not busy it would have been nice to be given a pool view room.

Relaxing & quiet resort hotel.

A lovely peaceful and quiet resort to stay in. Staff were all smiles and so pleasant to us during our 10 day stay. Any requests we had were responded to extremely promptly and the reception staff were great at helping out with all our queries about places to see and how to get there. The 4 of us had a wonderful time relaxing by the pool, drinking cocktails and dining in the rooftop restaurant.

We utilised the massage services on offer and enjoyed such things as chocolate indulgence and indian head massages - some you can even have by the pool!

The only downside was the wake up call we asked for on our last day - we asked to be called at 5.30 am but no call came! Luckily we woke up on time anyway, and didn't miss our plane home.

Our room was very pokey and not well layed out at all. The bathroom was ridiculously small and the photos on the hotel website did not at all represent what the bathroom was really like. The shower head was a joke and shot water directly at you. No power points in the bathroom either making it very hard for my partner to shave! One of the elevators were broken so it was quite a walk to our room. And the service was pretty average. The location was fairly out of the way, and you couldn't just walk out onto the street to get a taxi, we had to call one every time and wait about 10 minutes. At least the place was reasonably clean. We were very disappointed when we arrived, and although we made the most of it, we certainly wouldn't stay here again or recommend the accommodation to anyone else.

Toilets can be improved

Overall stay was great...butt he conditions of the toilets need to be improved. The bathrooms are always choked and the water not flowing through. The rooms were clean but the bathrooms were quite disappointing. Also, the food at breakfast can be further improved though the service was great and staff always helpful. They also need to be trained on how to clean the tables properly as they were merely sweeping the remains of food on the table to the floor. It makes it unpleasant for the guesta who will be sitting there to have their breakfast.

Nice - but fair distance from the action

As a family of 4, we found the superior room more than adequate. The room was kept clean and the staff were lovely.

If grey towels, threadbare sheets (odd hole), only 1 pillow, blocked shower and noisy air-con are going to ruin your holiday, then pay extra and stay elsewhere. The breakfast buffet was basic, but adequate for us, as we always had eggs and toast. We look at hotel rooms as just somewhere to sleep, we were not too bothered by these things and thought the hotel was good value for money.

If you want a very quiet stay, this is a good choice. There were times we felt we were the only guests there – the pool and restaurant were never crowded. It is also very quiet at night, with no traffic or street noise. The hotel is a fair distance from everything - we went into Kuta every day (it’s a 30-50 minute taxi trip each way). The hotel car to the airport is USD$20. There's little chance of flagging a taxi on the street, so ask reception to call you a Bluebird. The hotel shuttle (air-conditioned 7 seat car) will take you to either Bintang Supermarket or Seminyak Square, and you can negotiate pick-up from either of these.

Directly across the road is a good laundry and the Kunara spa. There’s also a CircleK and Minimart.

The kids were disappointed there were no other kids to play with. They missed the pool games and activities they’ve enjoyed in other hotels, as well games room amenities such as ping-pong, pool tables etc.

All the staff were extremely welcoming and always smiling and helpful .

The room was very nice but it was the overall condition of the bathroom lowered the standard of the hotel . Shower and bathroom sink tapware were all looking very used and old eventhough it was a modern room . Grouting was seperating and the towels were all discoloured ,which made them look very tired and old ...but they were clean

Breakfast was good but they didnt offer enough variety of fruit , no yoghurts and the sweet french pastries were always dry . The juices werent natural ... the orange juice tasted like gatorade !

There were no options to come back by shuttle . l thought that should have been provided

We travelled with our 2yo and found the Umalas to be very accommodating. We stayed in a 2 bedroom, ground floor room. They fulfilled our requests for a ground floor room and provided a portacot at no extra charge. The cot was quite clean and I was happy to use it. The room had a small kitchen (full size fridge, stove, sink but no microwave) and a separate living area. Everything was great - very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was the only downside of the stay. It was clean, but old. It was fine, but didn't meet the standards of the rest of the room.
The pool area was great, but not a lot of space around the pool to sit. It wasn't a problem for because there were never more than about 5 other people at the pool with us.
The highlight was the rooftop restaurant. This is where we had breakfast daily, and also many dinners. The food was delicious, and I felt very confident letting my toddler eat there (we took packet food for him for day trips).
The entire staff at Umalas we very friendly and helpful. We're would certainly recommend this hotel to other families travelling to Bali.

Bad hotel - Umalas - Not recommend

This hotel is very isolated, not close to shops and restaurants. There is no kid swimming pool. Food is just ok. As it is a wet season, it is hard to borrow umbrella. I have asked an umbrella at the reception, lady doesn't want to give it to me, so I never ask them again. Facility in the room is not good, easy to get broken and if anything is broken, they will charge to the room. It happens to me with the shower head. When I had a shower, the shower head is suddenly broken, they charged 250rp (25 Australia dollars). This make me uncomfortable to use the facility in the room and hotel since then. There is a kitchen, but nothing for us to use for cooking. Overall I don't recommend you to stay at this hotel. It will make you upset and ruin your holiday.

Quiet Elegance

A welcome treat to arrive from any long flight journey.
Surrounded by the few remaining and precious rice fields in Seminyak, the Umala's sits
quietly on a cozy quiet road, yet close to the heart of shopping and beach.
The newly opened spa just across the street offers great traditional massage and spa treatments. The food is very good so it is nice to have a lunch or dinner on the
rooftop. The staff are all very friendly and more importantly, truly happy to help you
with all your typical travel needs; computer, phone, transportation. The bed was probably the most comfortable 5 nights I've ever slept. Truly 5 star ! I would return to the Umala's again.

I did not mind that this hotel was far away from everything, but I did mind the dingy towels, non functioning air conditioning (loud and not cooling), grouty bathroom, poor lighting, moldy walls, murky swimming pool and overall depressing lobby. Close to the action but not too close

Great hotel. I booked a single room but on arrival was informed the singles were all booked out and I got a free upgrade to a two bedroom apartment. (set a good impression from the beginning) The room had heaps of space and was immaculately clean. Bathroom was fantastic, I think I want to marry that shower :-D

The staff were all spoke English very well and were very friendly and happy to help. Breakfasts were great, wide selection of food to try, and all very tasty. I did eat at the restaurant a few times, food was basic but still very nice.

The hotel itself is out of the way a bit.This was my first stay in Bali and I got really turned around. I still couldn't tell tell you how far it was from the beach or the town centre. I mainly got about in Taxi's. Cost about AU$5 to get into town. At the end of the day this was a good thing, to be able to retire to a nice quiet hotel and not worry about noisy neighbours was a blessing. Pool was beautiful, only thing, the deck chairs were in the shade so sun baking was off the cards. Although you can catch plenty of rays at the rooftop restaurant, which has plenty of space to playback and relax

The only drawback was the wifi service. I had to get passwords every time I wanted to log into the wifi which got a bit tiresome. (I later learned how to log out using my iphone, which may have assisted a great deal had I figured it out earlier) The service was painfully slow, although I was soon to learn that is the norm for Bali.

OK hotel but preferred something else

We booked for Deluxe room but they upgraded us to 2 bedroom suite ( they locked one bedroom so we only can use the main bedroom ).

The toilet kinda small and the tissue container falling apart and the housekeeping couldn't bothered to fix it.

Internet service is terrible, unstable connection and each time only last for 3 hours. So after 3 hours we have to ask new password again and again.

Location is far from eatery and shopping place.

Breakfast just OK

They gave us room near the lobby which is playing loud disco music from 3 pm to 5 pm rather slightly annoying to listened.

They put a very strong deodorizer in the bathroom. The entire room smelled like it. It is so strong that the bathroom towels smell like them. The bathroom was also a bit worn down. Other than that, included breakfast was amazing, and service was good.

The hotel itself was OK. The room was big and clean. The staff were really friendly too. However, we did get accused of breaking a tap in the shower which was broken when we arrived. The hotel wanted to charge us to fix it and we had to fight a bit to convince them that it wasn't us who had damaged it. Also the bathroom really stunk like sewage and when we complained they just sprayed toilet spray around- the problem persisted during our whole stay. The location of the hotel was a long way from anything too.

GREAT stay at Umalas

I stayed at Umalas residence with 5 friends (aged 22-26) for 9 nights. At first I was a little bit hesitant booking this hotel because it was not on the beach, but that ended up not being a problem at all! We had such an amazing stay at this hotel. Our villa was clean and spacious having 3 bedrooms two bathrooms a tv with many channels, fridge etc. Breakfast was included and absolutely delicious. It was a buffett with fruit, omelette station, pancakes and many Balinese dishes. There was always enough food and it was fresh. The staff were really helpful and even when we made a mess of the room or something went wrong they were happy to help and never made us feel like a bother. We took the free shuttle in the mornings to the market area and from there we could walk to the beach in about 15 minutes. We also hired scooters and took ourselves around bali. If I go to Bali again I will definitely stay at Umalas as it is so reasonably priced and really a great atmosphere.

Booked this 2bedrooms at 50% off, great deal. The location was at the end of the street, feel secured but far from Kuta area, especially the traffic there was super jam, bear in mind for time arrangement. The 2 bedrooms with only 1bathroom attached was so inconvenient for 4 persons and smelly. The hotel do provide 2 bicycles for rent.

Umalas Improvement Suggested!

The Umalas need great improvements to make it attractive to customers. For the one the hotel is over-priced. The Suite that I stayed should be restructure to have a better toilet/shower. The living room is too large with a kitchen as the emphasis of the Umalas. The Toilet/shower is so inconvenient and small for any kind of suite. The walkway to the room entry needs improvements. The service and food selection and quality in the restaurant must be improved overall. Internet service is a joke. The location is not desirable.

The service was excellent, the communication with the motel organising a collection from the airport, baby cot in the room and high chair.
The shuttle was good and prompt but could run a few more times each day into Seminyak.
The little shop, hairdresser , massage and warung were excellent.
It was only a $3 taxi ride into Seminyak so it was close enough but far enough away to not have any shops or sellers driving you mad to buy.
Also very quiet ant restful. The pool was excellent and so was breakfast each day.
We will return again and again.
Best value for money I have found in Bali.

Real Quality and Class

I had the pleasure of enjoying a too brief stay with my husband and 3 children at Umulas in Jan 2012. We found the 3br penthouse with roof access perfect for our needs, stylish, modern, well appointed, extremely comfortable and surprisingly affordable. Some amenities were unavailable at the time, whioch was disappointing, but everything else was nice, so we forgot about this quickly.The staff were EXCELLENT - warm, welcoming, attentive and gracious, and the restaurant had the BEST food I have eaten in Bali! I would definitely stay at Umulas again

Fantastic Stay

The reason why I chose this hotel was because its location. A bit away from the crowds, but it only takes 10 minutes to Seminyak area and 15 minutes to Kuta area by a taxi. The hotel is clean and the staff was great and polite. Free WI-FI internet access is also available in the room, I felt still being connected to the world.... Highly recommend this hotel to you all....

Nice Hotel Warm Staff But Location is not great

Apart from the towels which look old and very worn out, the hotel is very comfortable with very helpful and warm staff. Breakfast is good too if one does enjoy Indonesian food.

The hotel is unfortunately not well located and one needs to call taxi in order to explore the city. But for the price, I would recommend staying in this hotel.

Uncomfortable beds, uselessly slow and unstable internet, extra charges and questionable math when providing change made this an unpleasant stay

Horrible Stay @ Umalas

I won't get into much detail, other than to say that we walked away from a 2-night prepaid stay after only one night. We so wanted to get away from this hotel experience that ditching our second night's charge was worth it.

I should explain that staff was good and eager to help. Alas, they couldn't find me a single satisfactory room after 3 moves! We finally settled for a room that backs onto a cow-filled farm (no joke), and had 3 loud crickets inside that serenaded us all night.

Sorry to say it, but we were so dissatisfied with the condition/ location of the hotel that we didn't even try to get a refund for the un-used night.

P.S. WiFi was impossible to catch. They have it, but it's useless.

Perfect getaway!

I stayed at Umalas with 2 friends and we had an amazing time. Not only were we able to relax true tropical style with cocktails by their glamourous pool but the hotel staff were happy to help us out on our tourist ventures. The hotel staff provided their cars and a driver for full days of sightseeing at a very reasonable price. We were treated like close friends. The staff are incredible, the room was divine, the pool/spa/day spa/gym were all excellent. And the food and drinks were perfect! Location is quite central to Seminyak square without being admist the hustle and bustle of Kuta. We will definitely be back next year! Thank you!

Umalas hotel - worth the money

Comfy, but luxurious. Friendly staff and the breakfast was good. Room/suite was spacious and clean. A peaceful place away from Kuta.

I WILL NEVER EVER STAY HERE AGAIN!!!!!

I stayed in this hotel for 5 days the first day when I arrived they kept me waiting for more than an hour because they could not find my reservation, which I did through Expedia. The room I booked was no longer available so they said they were going to \"upgrade\" me to a two bed room lockoff. What they did not say is that I could only have acess to one of the rooms, they locked the other one. Cocktails ain't good at all, food is tasteless, pricey (compared to restaurants on the area) and takes ages for them to prepare it. Onmy 4rth day of stay we were running late for a tour, and I left one of the bathrobe on the bed when I came back they had cleaned the room and done the bed, not really well I must say (as when you walked around you could fill the dirt they left behind on the floor) , with the surprise they took the bathrobe away and did not replace it. Next morning when i was checking out they asked me to pay for the bathrobe!!!!!! Even after I explained what had happend they went to check at the cleaning lady history but she did not have any registry of the robe so they asked me to pay. Since I declined and I quote the guy the manager \"since it was our staff mistake we will cover half of the robe price, so you only have to pay for half of the robe\" In the end I had to pay as they dint want to refund my deposit until I payed for the robe.
