Traveling to hockey tournaments throughout winter has my family staying at quite a few hotels. I noticed over the last couple years, hotels have greatly increased their chlorine levels in their pool water. It’s gotten so bad that the second you open the door to the pool area, the chlorine starts burning your eyes and you begin to feel it in your lungs. We normally can’t last much longer than 30 mins due to itchy skin and couching. The Microtel in Portage La Prairie was the only hotel in recent years that isn’t like this. The pool water and area was perfect temperature. We didn’t notice the chlorine at all. What sold me even more, was seeing a staff member testing water samples while we were swimming. Well done!!
The rooms, staff and the full continental breakfast were awesome too! Would definitely stay here again!

We have been driving across the country, and this hotel was my favourite stay. It’s like an art gallery inside, and the staff was so friendly and kind. The gym was great, and they used real dishware for breakfast unlike all the other hotels – much appreciated. The bannock was so good. Thank you!

Very enjoyable pool area, spacious shower, nice room and breakfast was good and good variety. My only complaints are the sheets/blankets had holes in the corners. I also went down to the front desk at about 11 and I had to walk around and try to find someone.

The staff were friendly and courteous. However despite the building being fairly new it`s condition was terrible. The room was clean. The floor had a very loud squeak in it as if the floor had badly lifted from the floor joists. The grout was almost non-existent on the lower half of the shower. The floors in the elevators were in terrible condition. This building in my opinion should of failed inspection.

Everything was great upon checkin, room is comfortable and the mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker are excellent to have. Only comment would be with the motion activated thermostat - while typically likely not an issue, with the extreme cold temperatures that we are experiencing having it turn off overnight and when no movement is detected for a period of time was inconvenient.

New Year’s morning 9:20am Jan 1 2026, no coffee or cups or staff to be found, had to snoop through cupboards to find paper cup, The breakfast we had been looking forward too was already cleared away even though trays were still full of food minutes earlier… such a waste.
Other guests looking for food and coffee
also disappointed that there was nothing left. Had to leave to get other food.
No where to get breakfast food except McDonald’s and Tim Hortons other restaurants closed New Year’s Day in Portage La Prairie.
Missed opportunity for this hotel to provide a much needed service that day.
New years eve event we attended was fun it went till 2:00am got to bed around 4:00am and very disappointed that there was not even a cup of coffee left with breakfast. One male was sitting at front desk, cleaning dishes in kitchen and checking out guests that morning.

Great staff!!!!! Clayton was phenomenal in arranging an early check-in and the next day he asked me how my event was the day we arrived. Then I saw him in the kitchen, cleaning up the dishes, and I thought that this fellow was really engaged and wanted to do his job well… And did.

I would like to share with you that me and my wife spent a few nights at the hotel. We come to Portage to work occasionally and need a place to stay. This is the 1st time we stayed at the hotel and we stayed 3 separate times.
The last time we were to stay my wife was ill and could not go to her job and needed to check out early. Staff went out of their way to ensure my wife was cared for and only charged her for the night that she used at the hotel.
Staff were so accommodating and went out of their way to ensure our stay was great. I have recommended this hotel to all that are looking for a place to stay. I will be back and please keep up the great work it is truly a joy to have a clean, friendly, and safe hotel to stay at when away for work.

Breakfast was amazing fresh hot food and a great variety!! The staff was very friendly and helpful. My room was very comfortable and clean. I absolutely love the artwork and had to buy a couple of prints. The pool and hot tub were very nice. Only thing I can say is it would have been nice if the hot tub was deeper but alas I am spoiled at home with a spa. Lol Overall I would have to say that this hotel is one of the nicest I have ever stayed at in Manitoba.

Room was nice. Very clean across the property. Floor had a very loud creak at the foot of the bed. But other than that we were very pleased.
We were hoping for an early check in as we had an event in Winnipeg. As a group of 7 with three rooms only one was able to get an early check in. But it was oddly the third pair in our group that they had a room ready for. Two of us asked immediately before and were told no.
After we got back later that night the check in was very quick tho. We just had to shift all our stuff from the original room.
We were there for Grey Cup in Winnipeg, which our team won. We were still pretty excited so we met as group in the lobby and had some snacks and a chance to visit for a while. The staff was very nice about it and allowed us to use the space. We were a more mature group so wasn’t anything wild. But was nice to sit and unwind for a couple hours before bed.

I've visited Portage many times throughout my 33 years and have stayed at many of its motels and hotels. This is by far the best. Staff is friendly and professional, it's very clean with great decor, fantastic breakfast, and wonderful pool area with waterslide. Definitely intent to return and wouldn't waste time with other Portage hotels/motels/inns. Only con, you may need to book early and price jumps were significant day to day on booking sites.
