If you are looking for a place to get away from it all and relax then this is it. The property is away from the hustle and bustle and provided while we were there a very quiet atmosphere with very few distractions. The setting by the rain forest is lovely and tranquil and the staff are very helpful and respectful.
However, this property is quite a way out of the Ubud centre, around 30 minutes by car. There is no shuttle as advertised and a round trip is approx AUD $25 during the day and $35 in the evening. There is no full spa as advertised, but very lovely massages are available in your villa. There is no swim up bar functioning and the only cold alcohol in the mainbar is beer. There is no snack bar as advertised. Also the property is built on a steep slope and some of the villas are a considerable climb up and down many flights of steps that even a mountain goat may have trouble with.

Alam Ubud, like many properties appears to have been hard hit by covid and it's taking sometime to get back to having full facilities. That being said, the property is looking tired. The bed was comfortable and the staff was very accommodating. The breakfast was ok but it was not offering a shuttle to Ubud which is 15-20 south of the property. A cab would be 130k IRP. The spa was not open although they do provide in room massage( was ok but had better). Overall, it was quiet for the most part but I think I would try another property that was closer to Ubud.

Very disappointing stay. Almost no facilities were open. Spa, yoga and restaurant were closed. Free shuttle to Ubud center was also not available, which was the main reason we chose this stay given it's in the middle of nowhere. They have since removed this free shuttle in Expedia listing after we complained, but it's still advertised in other sites. It was difficult to get a ride hailing service willing to pick us up. We tried a few times around noon for about an hour before getting a driver assigned. They also had major ants issue. Pool of dead ants in the bathroom, giant ants keep appearing in any room. They used pesticide heavily, and also on the pillows! Very strong chemical smell and bad for direct han contact. It's also difficult to sleep at night because of loud tapping sound from animals in the jungle, at a rate of 5 taps a second, only at night. It's nice to hear bird chirping in the morning though.
I get that they’re probably just starting to open again after Covid closure, but they need to set the right expectations for guests. If you’re advertising that you have all these kinds of facilities and activities offered, guests might be booking because of them.
They didn’t do much to compensate us for the false advertisement and the bad experience we had.
So this villa is for you if you: don’t mind living with lots of insects, can sleep through gunfire tapping sound, don’t mind spending the rest of your stay in your room.

First impressions lasted throughout his whole stay here. It was breathtakingly beautiful set about a 15 min drive from Ubud centre, in the jungle. The jungle was peaceful and let off the most relaxing sounds, including constant water running with the river below the property. Infinite amount of gorgeous jungle plants, well maintained facilities including 2 pools! (One next to the restaurant and one down the stairs for a more jungle/private location) the vilas were enormous for 2 people. The bathroom of Bima 8 including a beautiful spa bath and walk in shower room. Air con worked very well. The balcony was incredibly private and perfect to lay on the day bed and relax. Breakfast which was included was delicious!! Very filling! It was a set menu with 4 options so you can mix it up everyday. We had dinner there also and the prices are reasonable. Same with scooter hire (we drove around the rice paddies/small villages near the accommodation. Also to see the temples/rice terrace nearby) Highly recommend the full body massage with the relaxing sounds of the jungle outside. Endra and Leo made us feel most welcome and at home. They were great company, always wanting a genuine conversation. They and all the staff made the stay even better than we could have imagined! Couldn’t be more appreciative!!

Staff very friendly although no staff/service when in pool. Room had few faults, not all the lights worked, the mirror in bathroom was very old and hazy, room door couldn't close properly, all the windows was dirty which ruined the view.

Beautiful villas tucked away in the jungle and overlooking a river. The food at the restaurant is reasonably priced and very good. There are two pools - one is an infinity pool at the top of the property overlooking the jungle and the other is at the bottom of the property overlooking the river. The staff here is amazing as well - very friendly and helpful.

The hotel is build in a cliff and the views from the infinity pool are stunning. Our room was very clean and spacious. We had to climb 100 steps every day to go to the pool and the restaurant but it worth it! The breakfast can be improved as the variety of the buffet is poor. Friendly staff. Only two things were less than perfect. There were ants here and there in our Villa, but that's not a surprise when so close to nature, and I wouldn't want them to be sprayed. Also, the bicycles need a full overhaul, though they were serviceable for short distance riding.
The staff were great and the setting is fantastic. If you want serenity, this is an excellent choice.

Not what you would expect when charging such high rates. Things need updating here such as the breakfast menu which has limited options and is written in a quite juvenile style; the way the rooms are kept and cleaned (mosquito net had many holes in it), etc. I have left a more detailed review on TA. Only thing that made up for this was the location which was far out of town and in a wild setting and the wonderful staff. All issues are to do with management who are clearly being lazy with the details and not updating things in keeping with the extortionate rates they charge.

Needs work but great pools and scenery

These villas are great for people looking to be in the heart of ubud's amazing scenery. The location is about a 15min drive from ubud town but it was not a problem. Taxis are available but there can be a bit of a wait. The pools here were great and yes the scenery was awesome! The rooms could do with a some updating. Our bedding was quite stained and cobwebs and dead insets in every room. the ants were also a major problem. more care to unsure guests rooms were inset free would make staying here a lot more comfortable

Beautiful place with a drawback or two.

The villas are on a one-lane road that wanders up and down through jungle and rice fields, and it really is disconnected from Ubud. The villa I had was beautiful and with a long balcony with jungle and the sound of flowing water somewhere below. Food in the restaurant was very good, and there was a night of Balinese dance that though a bit touristy was still fine. One drawback was that my villa was at the bottom of the hill, which meant a tiring hike up a steep slope and much more than 100 steps. I counted them. Nice infinity pool at the top, however, and the deluxe villas, some with a private pool, are more at the top also. Service was excellent. I would stay here again, definitely, for the beauty and the quiet.

We stayed here for two days during our two week visit to Bali, would have loved to stay a little longer at this place. The setting is beautiful, set on a hillside in the forest. There are many stairs and inclines so I would not recommend this for elderly or infirm persons. We stayed in Bima 1, the bathroom was huge. The rest of the villa was spacious and very nice! The balcony overlooking the river and forest was amazing.
This is the perfect place to get away from it all and relax. The staff are friendly and helpful.
The food is good, we had the free breakfast option. The breakfast buffet was simple but quite good. We ordered room service one night and it was excellent and not too pricey.
The infinity pool overlooking the forest was awesome. There is also a lower level pool, nice as well but colder.
There is a free shuttle that goes into Ubud center several times per day, it is about a 30 ride. There are lots of shops and restaurants in town. Ubud is excellent for shopping as well!

Villas in the middle of nature!

Upon arriving, I was greeted by Dewa and his staff with smiles and completely felt like I was in for a treat. Location is not in central Ubud but hotel provides free shuttles on certain time slots making it easy to get into town (approx a 20-30 mins ride). Honestly though, if you're looking at this hotel, you want a real getaway from all the hustle and bustle. You will find yourself surrounded by nature in its most honest form. My villa had a jackfruit tree going up the ceiling! After a rain shower, I found toads at my villa's doorstep. The villa I stayed in was very clean, the staff keeps all facilities really clean as well but since it's literally in the middle of nature, you will always see ants or some small spiders and they are all harmless! The main infinity pool by the check-in area is breath-takinly beautiful and the natural spring water pool more downwards from the hotel is exquisite as well. I had booked a spa session which is located outdoors right next to the spring water pool. Everything was so charming and I would definitely stay in Alum again in a heartbeat when I do return to Bali. I highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a relaxing getaway stay near Ubud!

Pros: Quiet, away from the hassle, not too many rooms so facilities are never crowded. The massages at the spa were amazing..perfect location and atmosphere for total relaxation .

Cons: The towels in our room whilst changed everyday were very worn out to the point of discolouration .
There were still lots of ants and bugs that made it to the room .

General observation: not a place for older travellers or people with physical disabilities, there are a lot of stairs but I did not mind the little bit of daily exercise this provided. :-)

A luxurious zen retreat!

Amazing hillside retreat, tucked deep in a forest with the sounds of a rocky river flowing through and paradise birds singing in the morning. These are not your usual hotel type rooms, they huge secluded villas! Facilities are very well maintained and the gardens are manicured daily. The staff are the icing on the cake, very professional, attentive, courteous and humble!

We enjoyed this place... The ambience was beautiful! It's off the beaten path from the town of Ubud so there's a since of relaxation when arrive. The rooms are very private and very spacious. The staff was incredibly sweet.
This place has lots of stairs it will definitely help keep you physically fit while on vacation however if you are not physically fit already it might not be the place for you. Also, I have to mention the beds and pillows could be a lot more comfortable. We stayed in lots of hotels on our stay in Bali and while this was one of my favorites the beds were the most uncomfortable. Other than it was a great place and I highly recommend it.

Love this place. Alam Ubud is fantastic. The villas are situated in a way where you have your own little \"home\". They are separated by lush landscape of trees and plants. Very quite and private here. The breakfast options while very simple is very good. Service here is top-notch. Highly recommend staying here. Its a 10 min right into the \"main\" part of Ubud which is very close. They have complimentary shuttle service into the city a few times a day which is convenient. You won't regret staying here.

An amazing experience that is always too short!

I always like the idea of staying at a villa and was great to learn that we had the one and only pool villa. We loved the pool and the room itself is fantastic! It is a 4.5 stars resort so don't expect 5 star treatment... the food wasn't fantastic but what a great nasi goreng you make at the restaurant! Overall we were pretty happy and met some amazing staff.

An amazingly beautiful hotel hidden on the slope of a hill in the rain forest above a stream overlooking Virgin rainforest on another Hill just north of Ubud. Friendly staff, I could go on and on about it, it might be best to experience it. I had a private villa with a private infinity pool which was awesome. Marble bathroom was in good condition and so was the rest of the stylish interior . There are excellent stream side massage facilities and they also have yoga to complete their lifestyle selling point. Ok, if I had to give negative points, they are small. The water pressure was not the best. I also think that if you are looking for late night drinks it my also be problematic, since the curtains are made of a white fabric which probably only there to give extra privacy. This hotel is not selling that lifestyle. All in all an awesome place to stay.

This is a magical hotel. Our room (Arjuna villa) was exquisite - so much space and a private pool. We absolutely loved staying here. The food was good, the main pool amazing and the staff so wonderfully friendly and helpful.

I would love to come back. We felt so relaxed after staying here.

Look no further, this hotel is perfection. From the beautiful room, amazing staff, fabulous restaurant and breathtaking view which happens to be enjoyed best from the edge of the truly magnificent infinity pool.

We had a wonderful time at Alam Ubud. The place is beautiful and the service was generally great. We left, however, on a negative note after an unnecessary argument with a manager over the meaning of the term \"Free Airport Shuttle\". The package that we purchased on Expedia included \"Free Airport Shuttle\", so I was surprised to find a charge for the shuttle on our final bill. The manager argued that only the shuttle from the airport TO Alam Ubud was provided free of charge, and that we would have to pay for the return trip. I believe that 99.9% of people would agree with me that \"Free Airport Shuttle\" (as clearly stated on our Expedia print-out) means BOTH ways (just like \"Free Breakfast\" means every morning, and not just one day). Nonetheless, the manager was argumentative, at first offering a \"reduced rate\" on the return shuttle, and then (when we didn't accept) searching carefully through our print-outs in hopes of finding some loophole that would prevent the hotel from having to cover the cost of our shuttle. All of this, as I say, left a bad taste. Alam Ubud is a classy place, and they did themselves a disservice by haggling over a shuttle trip that they clearly had an obligation to provide.

Absolutely incredible hotel set amongst the rain Forrest. Rooms were spacious with amazing views. But of a trek getting too and from the room with the steps but that is a reflection of our fitness level and not the hotel! Staff were very friendly and always happy to assist. I had the best massage of my life here! Good was average but fine. I would love the opportunity to go back to Alam Ubud!

Hotel villas are well-furnished and equipped but sheets and towels had not been cleaned properly (evident stains) and the open nature of the architecture and proximity to the forest means frequent nocturnal visitors including a rather large rodent who danced along the beams of our bedroom.

Amazing jungle view from the top pool and villas

Great little sanctuary. Location is beautiful, overlooking the jungle with a river running at the bottom. The top pool is amazing. You can just hang at the edge (literally!) and enjoy the view. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. It's a bit outside of Ubud, not much around - that's what makes it so nice. On the other hand, you will need to rely on a shuttle service from the hotel. It doesn't run very often per day, so that is a bit of a challenge. Coming back there are always taxis around in town. Weather was a bit crazy when we stayed there. Massive thunderstorms and downpours which we watched from our private little terrace of our villa. Loved it! But because of the weather the internet was sometimes a bit of a challenge and even sometimes collapsed. But it was manageable in the end.

I thoroughly enjoyed my recent stay at Alam Cultural Villas, it was utterly beautiful!
The staff were so friendly and accomodating. My only real issue was the damp smell of the linen, I guess it would be hard to get things to dry properly there. They quickly changed it all but the \"fresh\" linen was just as bad. But I loved going to sleep with the sound of the waterfall in the background and I would definitley stay there again (even if I did have to bring some frebreeze ;-)

Beautiful surroundings but far from everything

The hotel and pool was nice and the surroundings were beautiful but the location of it was a little annoying - nothing is walking distance so you have to taxi every time you want to do anything. The breakfast wasn't very good - although it was included we contemplated going into town to eat everyday but never did because it was too far away and would have to pay more than breakfast to get there.

Alam has many wonderful features, however many items let it down.

The rooms are large and well equipped,
The pool and scenery is wonderful
The breakfast , cleaning and afternoon reception staff were very nice and helpful.
Dinner in the hotel restaurant was very good and reasonably priced.
Minuses
Most of the rooms are a long way from the dining room and pool and have many steps to get there. My wife's mother has poor eye sight being very old and we asked for a room closer to the facilities 3 times. No one got back to us and when we spoke directly to reception, we were told that there were no rooms available. We asked a very nice young lady on afternoon shift who found a room immediately.
The breakfast buffet was very limited with even a more limited fruit offering. Generally only 2 types of Melons as the papaya etc. always ran out.
There were many bugs and lizards in the room.
The resort is a long way from anywhere with very limited shuttle service.

Beautiful relaxing holiday

This hotel is set in in beautiful rainforest surroundings. The view when you arrive Loo out over the pool is stunning. The staff are very friendly and helpful and I enjoyed our welcome drink and foot bath. The pool view is lovely. There is also another pool at the bottom of the resort which is very refreshing. We had in room massages which were lovely listening to the rainforest around us.
This resort is a 25 min drive from Ubud but it's easy to catch the shuttle and get a taxi home. I totally recommend this resort for a totally relaxing holiday.

Wonderful room with a view of the jungle.

We were concerned while driving from the Airport to Ubud that there would be anywhere private on the whole island! About 3 minutes before you arrive at Alam Ubud, the Taxi turns off the road and down this very private little street. By the time you get to your room, the only view is of jungle. They have arranged all of the rooms so they open up in this way.

2 great nights with this wonderful view and an oversized room.

Great little getaway!

My fiancee and I travelled from Brisbane to Bali for the first time last week and stayed at Alam Ubud for three nights.

On arrival, we were greeted with a welcoming foot spa bath, a lei and a glass of coconut water. Bliss!

We originally booked a Pool Villa on Expedia and for some reason when we arrived at the hotel, it was under maintence and not available for the first evening. The staff offered us a Luxury Villa (no pool) for the first night with a complimentary candlelight dinner and an upgraded Spa Pool Villa for the remaining nights - PERFECT!

We enjoyed all facilities including the main pool, bar, breakfast (included), room service and use of the hotels complimentary shuttle (twice daily - 10am/3pm departs and 4pm/9pm pick ups) to and from Ubud centre.

The food wasn't anything INCREDIBLE but was certainly tasty. The staff on the other hand were LOVELY people who deserve mention! They were readily available to charge our phones (we had no adapters), provide information and any other request we had.

The resort offers yoga (on request) for a reasonable rate as well. You truly feel at home in this peaceful villa set in the rainforest and nearby the rice paddy.

Our shuttle driver was happy to \"stop and wait\" while we got out and shopped in a few local boutiques en route to Ubud Market and each experience was pleasant.

We had a beautiful time chatting to the staff and hearing about the local culture, customs etc.

Our main problem was our room felt very damp and our bed sheets had mould growing on them on one corner of duvet.

We booked for 3 night but left after 2 nights.

Overall we have spent a great time at Alam Ubud resorts.
The ambience is fantastic and the services are quite satisfactory.
Staff is attentive and always available to respond to our request.
We choose a great Villa with unblocked view, just perfect!
The fresh water pool is something unique, hidden just close to the forest...and the infinity pool at upper floor is definitely one of the best attraction at the resort!

However we suggest to introduce more variety regarding food items in the menu and implement little more overall maintenance at the resort.
Also, would be great if the rock bar open up daily with same nice extra activities.

WOW.

This place is seriously like something out of a movie. My girlfriend and I were immediately greeted with a flower pedal footbath and juice while we waiting to check into our room. The infinity pool is even more stunning in person and extremely refreshing. We also got a complimentary upgrade to a room with a private pool and balcony view of the trees and nature which was absolutely incredible and mind blowing. Breakfast was the most delicious I had my entire time in Bali. I could go on and on, but for the price I don't think it gets better than this. One thing to note is that it is a bit far removed from the main streets in Ubud and it's basically at the end of a 5-10 minute ride through the rice fields, so if you plan on walking to find your way around you don't really have a choice but to take the provided shuttles to town. On the bright side, the shuttles leave a few times a day and pick you up from town for free which is only about 20-30 min away from the villa, so it's really not that bad. All in all, if you choose this place I guarantee you will not be disappointed and will have a lot to brag about!

Quiet paradise in the mountain

This was one of the best hotels I stayed at during my vacation in Bali. The hotel itself is located about 15 minutes from the downtown Ubud, and it situated up in the mountains that is very quiet and peaceful. The staff was all very friendly and professional, and the rooms were very large and comfortable. There is a free shuttle bus to Ubud (twice a day), or you can choose to use their taxi service for $10 one way, which normally will set you back about $20 if you take a local one (or depending on your negotiating skill).

There are about 20 cottages at this resort, and each one is separated by several yards, so you will get a nice private area to relax. The two pools are well maintained and very clean. The infinity pool at the top provides some wonderful views of the nearby mountain, and another pool at the bottom near the river is very serene and peaceful. Massages and spa treatments are available, although a bit pricy, but it was well worth the money after a long day of trekking in the Ubud area.

One complaint I had with the hotel is that there are no glass windows in the bathroom area! There is a large opening/window covered by a bamboo screen, but no glass. Because the hotel is located up in the mountains, there are a lot of insects, and they will make their way into the bathroom area. The bathroom and the bedroom is separated by a door, so as long as you keep the entrance way closed it will be fine.

This is the place to stay if you want to relax away from the hectic crowds. Everything that you really need is here, a pool, massages, tasty meals and privacy. Not far from town, with really convinient free shuttles to and from Ubud each day. We are actively recommending this to our friends.

Escapism!!

Wonderful hotel off the beaten track and away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud town. Perfect for the romantic getaway to relax and unwind. All the villas are situated to offer privacy, some with a garden others with a private pool. The hotel offer a range of in room spa services and whilst expensive by Bali standards its OK to indulge once in a while right! Staff are extremely helpful, with the typical Balinese hospitality.

Romantic jungle vacation!

Our experience at Alam Ubud was unforgettable. The grounds and location are amazing. They do a super job to minimize insects and mosquitos. A little gecko got into the room one night; no big deal. Although our shower stall was a bit unclean when we arrived, the entire villa was beautiful. You have a private cabana, fabulous for lounging and enjoying the nature surrounding you. There are a lot of stairs; not a negative feature though. The villas are literally built on a mountainside. The food was really good and fresh. The hotel is close to major points of interest in Ubud but far from any beach. If you are looking for a jungle escape, then this is the place to stay! They provide a shuttle service to the center of Ubud. The driver was very attentive when picking us up both for Ubud and the airport. Currency exchange is provided. We were looking for a quiet, isolated, and jungly place to vacation and we found it at Alam Ubud. The pool is awesome! We were there in the beginning of May and the weather was fantastic. Also staff informed us upon checkout about the increase in the departure tax; a must do before heading to the airport. Overall it's a relaxing environment and we would def come back.

Great experience for a jungle resort

I was traveling to Bali alone and booked this resort using Expedia.com as it had great reviews. I must say that the hotel did not disappoint me at all and was a great experience. It is suited outside Ubud and feels like it is inside a mini jungle. The resort is located on the hilly terrain with villas on various levels. The view was great and the rooms were very very spacious and clean. They also provided a huge balcony facing the forrest. It was calm and green and a great relaxing weekend getaway place. The hotel staff is good and speaks good English. However, the breakfast was average.They did not have a buffet but you could choose one fruit platter, one main course and one coffee/tea. This was a bit disappointing given the room rent is quite high. The breakfast should be either buffet or unlimited from the menu.

Beautiful location. 15mins from ubud, but out in the jungle so is away from all the noise and traffic. The location does mean some insects, but they do a great job of minimising and we only really saw a few ants in our room.

A perfect getaway out of the hustle and bustle

6 of us stayed at Alam Ubud for 6 nights in November. We arrived late (midnight) and we were still greeted with a lei and a refreshing mocktail on arrival. We received a thorough tour of our villa, Kunti 2. Service by all staff was impeccable throughout our entire stay. One of our friends left her iPod in a taxi one day, and reception were able to get it returned to us within half an hour of reporting it at the hotel.
The resort is about a 20 minute taxi from Ubud, but there are 2 complimentary shuttles in and 2 back from Ubud each day. Outside of these times, reception will arrange a taxi for you for about $10USD. It is actually cheaper to hail a cab in town, and pre-negotiate a fare for about 50,000 rupiah (~$5AUD).
If you're looking for a chilled out holiday, this resort is perfect. It is not a place you would go if you want to party hard.

Great hotel but far from Ubud centre

Great views, great rooms, great pool, great staff, but you need to factor in return transfers to Ubud if you want to do stuff in town (around 30-45 minutes each way). Also, any services offered by the hotel are rather pricy compared to Ubud: food, massages, laundry, taxis. Wi-fi is VERY erratic, in the rooms especially, a bit better at reception. Oh, and one last thing is: I hope you don't mind stairs!

Relaxing paradise with fantastic staff

We stayed for 6 nights and didn't want to leave. The setting was breathtaking and the room very spacious and airy. The facilities were excellent but what ready made it special was the staff-everyone we encountered was professional and super polite,but more than that they were incredibly friendly and chatty and seemed like they genuinely enjoyed their jobs, they couldn't have been more helpful,at one point literally giving us the clothes off their backs (lon story) and everything was clearly designed to make you feel at home.
If you're looking for somewhere quiet and relaxing away from the hustle and bustle, don't let anything put you off staying here. Yes,there's a lot of steps but the food in Bali is so good you've got to compensate somehow! Yes, it's not right in Bali, but the shuttle is great and it's only RP100 to go in at other times. The food was fine, not the best food in Ubud but it doesn't need to be, but breakfasts were nice with lots of choice and on the couple of occasions we had lunch/ dinner there it was tasty, but you'd be missing the point if you ate every meal there!

My wife and I spent three days here during our honeymoon, and it was the definite low-point of the trip. Our room had a strong smell of mildew and mold due to the lack of maintenance, and there was also a strong aroma coming from the sewer drains, which had clearly not been cleaned. the food was a big letdown, especially considering there were no other options nearby. The grounds were understaffed, and the staff was undertrained. this is the first negative review I have ever written about a hotel, and I have stayed in hotels all around the world.

Amazing view that the service doesn't equal

The hotel really is in the best settings. It's a very quiet position a little outside of Ubud but it does lead to a very relaxing atmosphere. Food is good and quite reasonably priced.
The biggest issue is that the reception staffs English is very poor and if you have an issue the manager is normally 1 1/2 hrs away in Nusa Dua. We waited three days to see a manager around an issue.

I would also advise you are prepared not to use the shuttle service we were left waiting for the bus back from the centre of Ubud and had to pay for a taxi in the end.

A taxi is about 100,000 Rupiah (£6) and i would suggest you just pay this or are prepared to.

From the first step in to the last we had a fantastic time Alam Ubud. The welcome was lovely, the views and pool fantastic and our villa was gorgeous. The staff were friendly and polite and always willing to help. Yes there are steps but we saw this as a good thing to help out our fitness with all the wonderful drinks and food we had.

A relaxing get away

Idyllic location in a rainforest gorge surrounded by rice paddies....a world away from tourist hustle of Ubud. Personable and helpful staff make a stay here a delight. Very quiet and private; ideal for couples who want a relaxing time together in beautiful surroundings. Good base for casual exploration of the surrounding countryside, on foot, by bicycle or scooter/car. The iconic Tegalalang rice terraces are only a short drive away while Ubud equally accessible for dining, shopping, galleries, etc.
