While this hotel is in the most amazing location and the staff very helpful, my “superior” room was certainly not that. The room did have a good view but was very compact and basic. I hit my head twice on the ceiling due to the design of the room and I was woken both mornings by a very loud lady on the phone at 6am in the next room. Due to the thin walls I could hear everything she was saying. I must say I was expecting more. No welcome gift or room upgrade here. Having said that the breakfast buffet that was included was very good.

The hotel itself is great, right by the boat and train and it is charming. But be warned - they tell you that the only dinner option is a buffet but they don’t post how much it is. And it is $80 USD per person! Definitely not worth it, although there are few dining options in Flåm. After dinner we were given a bill with multiple tip options- the only place I have seen that in Norway. So a charming hotel but you feel scammed with the dining.

Nice location. Rooms and esp common areas are very dated and could use some upkeep. Carpet in common hall ways e.g. needs to be heavily cleaned or replaced. The room charges are high and we expect that for a tourist area but also expect rooms and common areas to be kept
Better. Food was good although pricing of dinner buffet was very high. Taking it down in price would set better with guests already paying a high fee for the room

The location is very close to the fjord cruise and Flam Railway starting points. The communal areas were nice but the room was tired with a small double bed. No choice of bedding the heavy duvet was far too hot even with the window open (in March).

This is all about the location but you pay for it. We are travelling around Europe for 3 months and this was our ‘treat’ as we paid almost £200 a night. It was off season - I believe it is double++ this in peak season. The area is lovely but please be aware if you’re thinking of visiting in the off season. Most of Flåm was closed. Plus they’re extending the Marina so there was the banging from the pile driver most of the day. Obviously this isn’t the hotels fault but I do feel this perhaps should be mentioned

A bad stay, seriously understaffed, we were given the wrong room and receptionist would not admit it until I showed her pictures to prove. A general rude attitude, one receptionist with red hair shouted at an Asian tourist for filming the hotel and she was in the picture. Room was old and creepy and reception could not help with the chargers for the car. A feeling of \"we don't know\" everywhere. Would not recommend or set foot in there again. Very bad management

Lovely old hotel with lots of history which was beautiful to stay in. We had a loft room with a lovely bay window to look out across the town as the snow came down.
The bed was wonderfully comfortable.

The only area that could do with some love was the bathroom which felt a bit tired.

Breakfast had lots of variety, including some traditional Norweigian options.

Overall a lovely place to stay and I would recommend, it was also great to slow down on the journey from Oslo to Bergen and spend time in Flam

Hotel staff was very nice. Even when we accidentally blew the breaker. The only reason we didn’t rate this a 5 is because the mattress had been sat on much it was permanently indented. Time to replace it. It was like sleeping on a slope. After the electrical issue, we didn’t complain.

This is an old, historic hotel. I didn’t have expectations of luxury. However - “mountain view” rooms should be called “non fjord view”. I suppose mountain view is technically correct but it’s a little too cute by half to get around advising people in advance that they don’t actually get a fjord view for the high prices.

Also - the heater in our room didn’t work when we checked in, and it was absolutely freezing. I had to go down to the front desk twice to ask them to turn the heat on - despite my switching it on, there was something wrong with the connection and the reception staff had to come with me to my room to jiggle around a cord to get it to actually turn on. The woman was lovely, but you’d think at the prices they are charging they could replace a heater with a faulty connection? This is a hotel in the mountains - the room shouldn’t be freezing cold when guest check in.

We enjoyed breakfast but didn’t linger as we were catching the early train to Myrdal. The selection was good, although a bit more fresh fruit would have been nice (I don’t like eating meat and heavy food in the morning - but that’s just my preference).

Front desk people were helpful. Dining room staff (both dining rooms) were mixed. Some were helpful and some much less so. The public areas and dining rooms were beautiful. Our room, which we upgraded to have a balcony, was surprisingly spartan. No safe, no room phone, no refrigerator, no lotion or hair conditioner. A single liquid soap for hands, body and shampoo. Room needed some TLC with a split in the upholstered bed frame, door jams beat up, a big black mark in the tub. The tub/shower was dangerous with a big step up and over (tub on some sort of lifted base), and then getting out from the slippery porcelain at an end that was sloped was precarious and we are fit people. The view of the fjord was stunning, but the room is more like a dorm room and needs updates. Plugs to charge electronics are found only at the baseboard level. The 3rd floor dining room food was very well prepared and delicious. The buffet breakfast had many options, but hot items were not tasty. Would have liked some nondairy milk options for cereal, coffee and tea.

The hotel was nice. Did not like the bathroom, old rationed with sink with no counter space, it had old claw foot tub that there was no way to take a shower without flooding the floor since shower curtain didn’t go around the whole thing.
Expensive hotel but still paid a lot to park and to top it off if you wanted to charge an electric car in the lot you had to buy some $20 card the hotel sells you to be able to use the charging if you are not from Scandinavia. Seemed like a money grab to me.

Their dining room closes at 9pm! The last Flam train gets in at 8:49 and so it is a rush to try and get to the dining - a buffet. They should extend the hours by 15 or 30 minutes and also serve a La carte especially for vegetarian guests. Their buffet is meat and fish heavy. Their breakfast buffet is also meat and fish heavy. Few hot dish options for vegetarian guests.

While the included breakfast was superior as was the view of the fjord from the restaurant, we had higher expectations for our room. The size wasn’t ideal for three adults and there wasn’t much of a view. The decor bordered on charming yet dated.
The hotel’s proximity to the railway station and cruise ship ports, while convenient, made the location very touristy.

If you’re coming to Flåm then you MUST stay at the Fretheim Hotel! Breakfast is included and feels like a 5 star dining experience. Every outdoor excursion and dining is steps away. The rooms are clean, soft beds, and the views spectacular!

We made dinner reservations at 8:30 pm but our train was very delayed. It was nice that the hotel extended their dinner for us so we were able to eat. The dinner was buffet-style and the food could be grabbed until 9:00 pm regularly but was extended to 9:30 pm due to our transportation issues. The room was comfortable and had a nice view of the fjord (note there are some small buildings that obstruct the view slightly). Great breakfast buffet included. Would recommend this hotel but plan your arrival/dinner accordingly.

The reception staff were abrupt. Although we paid at the property they refuse to gives us an invoice.
We arrived on the afternoon train, the windows of the room were opened so we did not noticed the unpleasant smell in the room. We left the luggage and went out on an excursion then for diner and a walk. It was late in the night when we returned and went stright to bed, the smell was so bad that woke me up.
I mention this to the reception person the next morning and he reply that there had been complains about the smell in that room from previous guests but had not been able to fix it yet.
We should never had been given the room if they knew it had an unplesant smell. The exorbitant price for the room is certainly not worth it.
The staff in the dining room were plesant and cordial. I would never go to that hotel agin, nor recommend it to anyone.

Took the 5.5 hr ferry from Bergen, through the fjords and arrived at Flam. We were so happy to check into this hotel as our room as it provides a warm, classic, upscale but not pretentious vibe. Our room was comfortable. We opted for the dinner buffet which was pricy but totally worth it! Service was top notch. We were on a 2 week trip and stayed at many hotels and encountered varying level of services and this place definitely ranks top in hospitality, professionalism and helpfulness. Highly recommend.

It’s very close to the railway terminus and harbour. For a tiny place, there are restaurants, a pub and tourist shops. There are also temporary food stalls. Perhaps because there was a cruise ship in port and there were very many tourists, we had to wait until 4 PM to check in. Some folks went into town, some to the bar and some to eat, I did dome laundry in the hotel’s free laundry room. One washer and two driers but nobody else was using it so our stuff all got done.
