Not even close to a 4 star. 2 at best. When they have to keep the lobby door locked at 3:30 in the afternoon it’s not a place to stay with family. Upon speaking with the hotel staff no refund was issued. Not even a partial. Never ever STAY here!

I’ll start by saying that all the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our flight was delayed meaning we didn’t arrive to the hotel until half past midnight but we had no problems checking in. However, the condition of the hotel is really poor. Pretty much everywhere you look there’s cracks and holes in the walls, or they’re completely covered in scuff marks. Attempts have been made to fix the larger holes but nothing more than a very bad filling job with no attempt to redecorate it. The shower cubical was extremely small with nowhere to place shower gel/shampoo etc and the water temperature is not stable.
The hotel is located down a pedestrian only road but is only a couple minutes walk to the main road. It’s a little tricky to find as it’s in a court yard and you can’t see the name of the hotel from the path, we walked past it a few times before realising where it was. Having said that it was in a great location with lots of restaurants and shops nearby.

I transited twice through this hotel in a ten day period. Both of my rooms were very clean. I preferred the second room because it was larger, had better air conditioning, and had a shower. The walls in both rooms were very thin. On the first night I was disturbed by my neighbour who obviously had an early departure. On the second night, I could hear my neighbours TV as clear as if it were in my room but I was lucky insomuch that they switched it off about 10.00 am. Breakfasts are very basic and are not served until 8.00 am. There was a notice in the room saying that the hotel would not take responsibility for cash and valuables but the room did not contain a safe (which in Naples would be desirable).

The walls to my room were incredibly thin, and my room was next to my neighbours bathroom, which meant that when they got up early to leave, I was dreadfully disturbed...,,

Plug in air fresheners everywhere made it impossible to breathe. Told them but nothing changed. Had to wear a mask. Room was supposed to have a balcony but didn’t. Window opened to a noisy residential courtyard all night. Bed was 2 smaller cots pushed together and hard as a rock. Should have been a king bed. Bathroom was awful. Shower was tiny and moldy with no where to put anything. Amenities looked used. Doors didn’t close properly and the hand held shower was broken. No hook to hang bath towels. Safe in room behind a picture opens with a key that the reception asked for during the day but sign behind door stated staff not responsible for anything missing because there is a safe in the room. Staff was nice but didn’t offer any information or even a map. Was told there was internet but it was only in the lobby and very weak. Not even in the breakfast room.

Overall, this was a great stay. The hotel is conveniently located in the historic center, walking distance to great food and sites (Napoli Sorroterrena, San Severo Chapel, etc). Overall, would highly recommend. Staff was really nice!

Hotel review

Location: We walked from the train station, which took about 20 minutes. It is located in a mini plaza, fairly easy enough to find.
Amenities: Breakfast is available daily, you can drink water from the pitcher left over from breakfast. There is also a bar which served coffee and alcoholic beverages but it did not appear to be staffed with the exception of the breakfast hours.
Cleanliness: The shower would not drain. This was disgusting and even after getting it \"fixed\" there was no change.
Noise: There are only two floors-the ground floor and the second floor. Sound traveled in from the outside.

Not a 4 star by any stretch!

This hotel, although in the city center, is a terrible location. The hotel itself was certainly nothing close to a 4 star! The room was tiny, barely space to walk around the bed. The shower stall was also very small. The \"mini bar\" was an empty refrigerator that wasn't even cold. The bar/lounge didn't serve wine which is shocking in Italy. In fact they didn't even have ice cubes for our warm drinks. The breakfast was sub par. Totally disappointed in this one.

Good central location, lots to see/do nearby, manyrestaurants, friendly hotel staff, area from train/ bus depot (Termini) to hotel fairly seedy and hotel location not easy to find, it's within a small plaza off Via Tribuno and not visible from the street. The given address of the hotel is not based on street location, rather on hotel's presence in an off-street plaza. Maybe taking taxi from Termini (or whatever start point) to hotel would be easiest (we walked and suffered). Street layout is labyrinthine and thoroughfares not well marked if at all. Wifi works only in lobby, not rooms.

Good location

The hotel is at the heart of the old centre with many restaurants and beautiful churches to visit. The staff was friendly. The hotel though is very simple. More a 2 star. My bedroom didn't have a window more a sky light. The bathroom old but clean. Very small shower which was fine for me but for a bigger person it could be a problem :)
The breakfast was simple but fine with croissant, cheese and cold meat. When we requested we could have a boiled egg.
Overall we had a good stay as the hotel was just a place to sleep for us.

Great location, uneven rooms

In middle of old section so walking great. Loads of restaurants and shops. Subterranean Naples entrance only a few blocks away. Avoid room 103 if you can't sleep in bright room. 'Window' over door to hall so when motion trips lights it's disturbing. Friends room 203 much nicer.
Breakfast not exciting. Staff super helpful.

Nice hotel in the historic centre. Close to a lot of sights. Friendly staff but the hotel should not be categorised as a 4* hotel. I was disappointed with a number of things:
- WiFi not available in the room
- The windows in the room didn't shut properly
- The shower door was broken
- The staff did not replenish the toilet roll
- The safe in the wall did not work.

Disappointing because nowhere near 4*

It's a pity that this hotel over-rates itself as 4* rather than a passable and quirkily appealing 3*. (It rather questions the credibility of the rating system in Naples.) It looks like it got half-way to becoming a very attractive and interesting boutique hotel - eg the quite a lot of the décor in the public areas and the imaginative use of a genuine old Naples building - but somewhere along the line gave up and lowered its standards. Just two examples out of many: the sink was cracked and the \"mini-bar\" was a tired, stained and empty small fridge tucked under a table. I would also expect 4* to have Wi-Fi in the rooms and breakfast area. On the upside, its location and immediate surroundings were excellent.

Beauty boutique hotel!

Clean n comfortable room with superb shower, room safe and personal fridge. Plush lounge seating in reception that always had smartly suited staff in attendance. The breakfast was always early (even on Sunday), well stocked with good choice of fresh products. First class service at all times by a respectful and attentive staff.

Beware of bait and switch

Booked Caravaggio hotel (and pre-paid in full through hotels.com), but when we arrived to check in (on Thu, Oct.6) they told us \"we have an issue\". They said that the hotel was overbooked, but that they would send us to their sister hotel (Grand Hotel Capodimonte). We really didn't have any choice but to accept as it was late afternoon (and raining) in a city where we had never been before in a foreign country.

After getting home, we looked up the nightly costs of the two hotels. For a similar reservation (2 nights, starting on Thu, Oct.20), the Grand Hotel Capodimonte costs almost 1/3 less than the Caravaggio. It appears that the Caravaggio is running a bait-and-switch scam where they get potential guests to pre-pay and then switch them to a cheaper hotel when they show up at the door and have nowhere else to go. They never offered to reimburse us the difference in room rates or to compensate us for the inconvenience of being further away from the various tourist sights we had pre-planned to visit in Naples.

Note: Never got past the lobby of the hotel, but there is no way to submit this review unless some rating is selected for the property, room, and local area (so we gave them middling values as a reflection of our general dissatisfaction).

A one or two star hotel, not four stars.

The beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable. There was a large cockroach on the floor of our room. There was no elevator to our room - we had to access the room by climbing up an exterior iron staircase that was very poorly lit at night. The room itself overlooked a dingy interior courtyard. There was no wifi in the room. Breakfast was mediocre. The staff were friendly and tried reasonably hard, but they could not make up for the terrible state of this hotel. There is absolutely no way that this a 4 star hotel as they claim.

This is a 3 star hotel.

The hotel is ok overall but disappointing for a 4 star rating. I think the price is off as well, I think its over priced for the state of the installation and for its location. There is not much to see near by, so perhaps its more for a business visit than a holiday. BTW they do not have a shuttle to the airport or port. They do however negotiate very good rates with cabs for you.

Modernesque decor, new showers are hip but impractical, nice staff, interesting location. In the evening, recommend going west (right as you come out of the small square at the hotel entrance) on Via dei Tribunali. Past the Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Anime del Purgatorio ad Arco are a couple of good pizza places and further on is a sort of book district which was wonderfully lively.

Great Location in Historic Centre

Enjoyable stay in a very lively location. The staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was good, with help yourself buffet. The location in old town, with very narrow cobbled street, and bustling night life may not be to everyone's liking, but we found it fascinating and thought we were seeing the 'real Naples'. the hotel is a 15 min walk from the bus and train station. Plentiful pizzerias and coffee bars nearby, all very reasonably priced. We recommend using the funiculare to get to the Castell St Elmo, where there are breathtaking views of Naples, the bay and Vesuvius.

Location couldn't be better

This hotel is in a great location for visiting Naples old center. Valentino at the front desk is very helpful and has very good English skills. The other staff is very friendly also. Some with better English than others. I had room 104, no balcony but It was a good sized room with a nice bathroom. No english channels on tv. only one outlet for refrigerator and tv, so either or. All the rooms are on the first floor and you must use the elevator. Breakfast was minimal. Espresso machine was broken so they went next door to get cappicino for me. Naples is a fabulous city! I would recommend staying here

Nice hotel in a great location for sightseeing in the old town. In particular, the famous Caravaggio \"The Seven Works of Mercy\" is opposite the hotel's piazza in the Pio Monte della Misericordia.

Our only beef was over a mix up with the crib. It seems hotels.com didn't inform the hotel we were travelling with a baby and didn't provide a crib initially. When we requested one, the receptionist didn't know where it was and told us we had to wait until 9pm for it. Since that's past our little one's bed time, we told them not to bother and deliver it the next day. Annoyingly, the crib was delivered at 10pm the same night - 3 hours after her bedtime - almost waking her up.

So, traveller's tip - make sure you mention crib requirements in the hotels.com \"Special Requirements\" box when booking.

This hotel is very basic for a four star grading. The rooms are very basic and dated, though kept clean. Breakfast is simple with no hot food. There is no wifi in the rooms due to the age of the building. Rooms were cold and heating did not work well. The good points are that it is very centrally located and the staff are extremely helpful.

The hotel is right bang in the middle of the amazing atmospheric Centro Storico. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. The breakfast was adequate. The minuses: if we could have chosen, we would have gone for a room with more light - we were at the back with not a very nice view. The 'roof garden' was a bit disappointing. Main, serious negative was the drains in our bathroom - they were VERY slow. However, all in all a pleasant place to stay - so handy for the ancient city.

Clearly someone had a vision to set up an arty hotel in Naples. Whether the plan went wrong as ill conceived or the economy frustrated it failed. Our bathroom toilet set itself to constant flush early in our three night stay. Staff said it would be fixed and then ignored us or the problem. Sleeping over the noise of Naples is difficult anyway but with the added issue of the constant sound of a flushing toilet things get beyond reason.
We had nothing stolen but staff clearly paid too much attention to our belongings as things were not as we left them when we returned at the end of the day.
This hotel is run down and neglected. Things don't work. Staff don't or can't give decent levels of service. Avoid.

Best to use google street view before booking, just type hotel caravaggio, naples into map search. Seemed expensive. As for 4star hotel (carravagio in naples) we couldnt find anyone impressed with this. No parking, our room door found open when collecting our key. Hall light not working so trying to find lock in dark every evening. Breakfast fruit juice is some sort of childrens sugar water with colouring, probably a powder mix. 5 large litter wheelie bins outside hotel smelling with people searching contents of night. light in room not working, both lights mentioned at reception nothing happened. Local tax required at checkout, would only take cash, no credit card. Tax? really? Cash only? Bustarella I think (not a profanity,just means little extra cash). Hire car return (Budget,booked through expedia). Oh, your compressor is missing from your boot. look at your contract, its written in pen that there was one. So you lost it? Maybe your hotel took it. Che palle, as they say. Fibbing little fat man - I say. I never was without the keys and i dont want a hire car compressor. Another Bustarella wanted maybe? Really left bad memory of last day. Every last opportunity to con you out of your hard earned cash. Naples, never again. Expedia??

Well placed, clean and friendly.

Room was clean and quiet especially condidering it's location in the centre of the old city.
Breakfast was adequate but not notable - could have been better with more attention to detail and no extra cost.
Staff were very good.
Directions to hotel are difficult when arriving, easy when you know how. A 400 metre walk to the local bus/train terminus but we got lost the first time. Airport bus is good and reliable, 3 Euro to airport.
A map was provided free on arrival.

Small, friendly hotel in historical centre.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location is ideal for visiting the different tourist areas of Naples. It's only about three quarters of a mile from the Central Station and right in the heart of the historical centre of the city. The Royal Palace/Piazza Plebiscito area is only about a mile away. The first room we were allocated had a shower rather than a bath and only a high window that we couldn't see out of. However, when we asked for another room with a bath, we were given a much better room with a bath and with a window overlooking the street. It's worth asking for one of the rooms with an outside window when you book.

Nice location in old district

Very welcoming staff. However, maintenance problems in bathroom as
our sink did not drain properly and showering caused leaks on the
floor. Room was spacious with high ceilings.

Breakfast had many choices but quality was not high (note: it would be
nice to have real orange juice at breakfast).

Great location next to Duomo and walking distance to the train station
and Archeology Museum.

Great pizza just down the street.

Not quite 4-star

Like others have said, the hotel is in an ancient part of Naples. The neighbourhood feells safe, but, like most of Naples, it is dirty and unkempt. Many major historical sites and buildings are within easy walking distance. The hotel is clean, but basic. All hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. All try their best to speak English. With our basic Italian, and their basic English, we got along fine. The breakfast is bad. Fortunately there are a few excellent cafes a few minutes away. Food prices in the neighbourhood are very affordable, and the food is good. Surprisingly, no wi-fi internet is offered, even though a wi-fi router is plainly visible.

Good points: Good location in the Centro Storico, easily accessible from both the train station and airport. The room was also clean.
Bad points: Everything in the room was noisy. The bed squeaked every time one of us moved, the bathroom fan sounded like a motorbike starting and the air conditioning insisted on only running for about 2 minutes every 30 minutes and whirring every time it started up. The breakfast was borderline terrible - a couple of dried up pastries and watery tea.

I have no idea how the hotel got 4 stars, I would said it was a 2-3 star at best.

Comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff. Probably not really a 4 star quality hotel, however. Walking distance to all of the major historical attractions, or an easy cab ride to somewhat more distant spots. Not a stylish part of town, but that did not matter to us. It is located on a small piazza that is pretty grungy, but Naples is a bit of a grungy place.

Great service. The staff was very helpful and we had no language problems. the only problem was the air conditioning was not sufficient, we were too warm at night.

Real good for Naples.

This hotel was in the heart of local territory..if you want a real feel of Naples and it's people..stay here! In a very historic area as well! Contemporary and clean. The only problems was that the AC did not go up high enough for us.. it was on as cold as possible and was moderately cool in the room. Overall a fine hotel though.

a nice hotel in the historical center.

It's a nice hotel, well managed, clean, central. Air conditioning is adequate (though on the first night it unexpectedly stopped working).
If you are hungry late at night there is a nice pizzeria on via Tribunali (when you leave the hotel, get onto a small piazetta (square) then turn right onto via Tribunali, then pass via Duomo and the restaurant will be on your right on via Tribunali. There are some other options around as well.

Small hotel near Duomo.Hard to find on small courtyard.Air conditioner needed but not adequete for the room.Balcony opened on to lightwell attached to room next door-may be a concern to others if needed to open to cool off.Buffet breakfast was very good. Room adequete for one but if two people would be really tight

Hotel Caravaggio Naples

This hotel is very well situated behind the Duomo in the middle of the Old City. We found ideally situated for walking around the city. Becuase of its location it can be noisy but the staff are very helpful and the rooms are clean. It certainly is not a four star hotel but perfectly comfortable.

Pleasant hotel in the heeart of Naples

Staff was very helpful. Most spoke English, but one key person did not. My room was large, but had only one small window very high up on the wall. No English language television was provided.

For travelers wanting to stay in the historical central section of Naples, this is the place--maybe the only place of this quality. This hotel and its neighborhood are totally Italian and non touristy. The hotel location feels relatively safe.

I saw a lot of Naples and the surrounding area from this base and would definitely stay there on another trip to Naples.

Maybe it's Naples

Hard to tell if it's the city or the hotel but the Caravaggio in Naples was not the greatest. Surrounding neighborhood decent, if seedy. Don't expect a gracious welcome or wake-up call. Not four-stars as advertised.

Pas de fenêtre ni d'aération, moisissure sur les murs,nous n'avons pas réussi à rester dormir avec l'odeur d'humidité et le bruit des toilettes de la chambre d.a côté.
Nous sommes partis pour un autre hôtel.

Het hotel ligt in het hart van het historisch centrum aan een rustig hofje waar ook een beroemde kathedraal gelegen is. Het personeel is uiterst vriendelijk en behulpzaam. De kamers zijn erg ruim en niet gehorig wat fijn is in een drukke luide stad als Napels.

l’hotel è comodissimo per andare alla scoperta del cuore storico di Napoli, tuttavia ci sono alcuni dettagli forse rivedibili - premessa la gentilezza del personale, la colazione è forse un po’ ridotta per essere un 4 stelle: non vi erano uova, la frutta una mattina era solo di due tipi ed il buffet era in generale abbastanza povero - la camera era essenziale (in economia): i letti erano delle semplici reti a doghe con materasso - il bagno non era molto pulito (nella zona doccia) - la prima notte il condizionatore ha funzionato con una portata eccessiva (nonostante la regolazione al minimo) e la mattina dopo mi sono svegliato con una bronchite - sarebbe opportuno o migliorare la qualità o ridurre il prezzo

Hotel appear to be pretty run down.
Room is basic.The window in my room just opened towards the yard.
Couldn't sleep well due to noisy aircondition.
Breakfeast is extremely basic (you might as well go to the streets and buy a criosant).
Unfortunately, I got a lot of bed bug bites with me home after the stay.
Giving 2 stars due to the price and friendly staff.

Hotellet ligger godt ift. centrum, det er dog et mindre charmerende område ift. slidte bygninger og affald. Hoteller kunne godt bruge renovering og værelset er mørkt og der er meget larm, ligesom at det bliver utrolig varmt og aircondition larmer.
Den parkering de henviser til, er forskellige garager som tager 40-45 euro pr dag for at holde din bil. Vi tog den som hoteller skrev lå tættest på (100 meter væk), den lå så 350 meter væk.

hôtel bien situé dans le centre historique

Ce séjour aurait été parfait mais la chambre était trop bruyante. Elle se situait sur la place où sont installées une trattoria et une pizzeria De plus au dessus de la chambre, il y avait une terrasse avec des plantes qui étaient arrosées tous les matins à partir de 6 h. Il serait judicieux de proposer des bouchons d'oreille et un masque pour la lumière au même titre que les produits pour les cheveux et le corps.

Purtroppo l'Hotel Caravaggio ha solo il prezzo delle 4 stelle, nella realtà si presenta come una stamberga di periferia, con muri scrostati muffa nel bagno, millepiedi in giro nella stanza. Consiglio a chi ha dato un punteggio alto una visita della vista preso un buon ottico.
