Tbh- everything was mid. Just not the lux I’ve come to expect from Hampton Inn.. small room charged as an executive with study.. there was no study, just a small dirty couch. The staff was awful, the breakfast attendant actually slammed the juice bar in our faces bc she didn’t like how we looked.. gave us a single towel to share, they had no coffee in the room…

The bed was very comfortable and the water was hot; so I gave 2 stars for that..

Originally we had a room that there was hair all in the sheets and looked like cigarette burn holes in the comforter. We called the front desk and immediately he came up, helped carry our things and moved us to an upgraded room. Staff was so friendly, dog friendly area, clean, and quiet.

Although my stay was okay at the Hampton Inn, and the staff was very nice - I had some SERIOUS SAFETY issues. Upon leaving my room, I pulled the handle to secure the lock and pushed back in to double check that the door was secure. Secure… it was NOT! The door pushed open without using my key card. I thought to myself that maybe I didn’t pull the door closed enough, so I tried it and it opened! As I looked puzzled at the lock mechanism, I realized there was just a hole that didn’t have the other piece of the lock.

I went to the front desk and they assured me that I’d get another room immediately. I was taken to the new room on a different floor - and THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED (NO LOCK). My safety is definitely a concern at this point.

Thankfully, The 3rd room lock worked! Please ALWAYS check your doors and locks in ANY hotel you stay! Safety is my NUMBER ONE CONCERN!

So we decided to try this HamptonInn this year and what a pleasant choice that turned out to be. Everything we needed and optimal location for exit/entrance onto 264. The room was horrible. Dead bugs stuck to the wall. The shower hadn’t been cleaned in who knows how long. You could see hair and soap scum from previous customers. We asked to be moved to another room, and were told they didn’t have any so there was nothing that could be done.

In town for the Neptune Festival to compete

The check in was great. The lady helping check in was super nice and very helpful. She made sure we got what we needed and helped get me an extra blanket to cover the bed for the dogs.
The only negative was when we walkes the dogs out the side door, we kept smelling a very strong odor of marijuana. The first night the police were there on our floor but not sure what that was about.

When checking in my credit card was a see to pay for two rooms. I reserved them with my card but t my brother was going to pay for his at check in. We told the guy working. He supposedly took it off my card and reran it on my brother’s. The change didn’t show up on my card or my brother’s. A lady corrected it the next morning.

The front desk staff was amazing! They were caring and helpful throughout our stay. The property is also central to everything and was a decent drive to/from the boardwalk. Breakfast was pretty good most days but as a non-meat eater, some days were difficult to find solid protein. The room was clean when found. The only downsides was the selective cleaning during the week. One day the bathroom linen wasn’t changed out. Also, the doors and other patrons could be noisy and with a pet friendly hotel, my allergies were hard to get a handle on (mostly my fault lol). All in all, great hotel with good people.

Worst Hotel in Virginia Beach

This was the worst Hampton that I have ever stayed in. The toilet ran the entire two nights and three days we were there. I called the front desk the first night and asked for somebody to check it, the guy said they were the next morning. No one came so Tuesday afternoon. We called again. The front desk and a gentleman came out and said oh it’s a slow fill toilet and I said it’s been filling for over 29 hours. Then when I drop something on the floor, I went down to get it and realized somebody who was there before us Left a pair of socks under the orange chair that was in the corner of the room. Then in the bathroom, the trashcan liner fell in, and I realize that they never really emptied or clean the trashcan from before, they had just put a new bag over it because there was a razor blade cover a, toilet paper roll, and a few other things still in the bottom of the trashcan. Also, I had gotten a shower the first day and used our towels, and they told us that they only clean the room every other day, so I did not know that I had to call and place an order for towels, so I could get a shower with clean towels for the next day. Even in cheap hotels, I’m used to having clean towels, daily, trash changed daily, just your average tidying up. I will be traveling and I’m sure back to Virginia beach again, due to my son is military there. I can guarantee you I will not be staying in this hotel, even though it is the closest and most convenient hotel to my son‘s apartment.

It was mid summer and we don’t run the AC very cold. Our particular room was unusually humid and damp. When we turned the ac down to 70 it dried the room out some so it became acceptable

The property is very nice and breakfast is solid.

I’m not a big conplainer but this was a unique experience and likely had to do with our particular room.

We had to switch our room five times. The first room, was filthy. The bathroom was hair all over the floor food behind the bathroom door some black stuff all over the back of the toilet area stuff splashed underneath the sink some stuff stuck to the wall underneath the sink bathtub was dirty. It was disgusting the air conditioning was so bad that we could not breathe as stuffy. My husband has severe asthma and sinus issues as well as I have sinus issues. They moved us the next day not that night to another room which had the refrigerator was not working and the television didn’t work then they switched us to another room that air conditioning system was the same as the first room was not working well so then they switched us to another room that room. The television didn’t work. Finally the next room where we just had enough, we went into that room. There was water all over in the rug where the air conditioner was you had to keep the air conditioner temperature on 57 in order for it to even work well and then there was bugs in the bathroom and in the room we have videos of the bugs and the way that water was in the room. If you stepped on that rug, your foot got soaking wet. We are now at the emergency room because it’s caused my husband asthma problems, breathing problems. He has a respiratory issue going on now.

HVAC overhaul overdue!

The 4th floor room i originally had, 405 was SO muggy & humid I couldn't bare it. I tried adjusting the thermostat and even left the room for hours to come back to the same conditions. The front desk staff was gracious and immediately changed my room. The 3rd floor room was better but still so humid that the sheets felt damp. I couldn't get comfortable and needless to say i didn't sleep well. The water pressure in the shower was so weak that a \"quick shower\" turned into a prolonged shower that had the room extra humid.

The front desk manager was bright, cheery, and social, as well as knowledgeable. My room was cool and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good and the supply was replenished as needed. I did not appreciate that the front doors were locked in the morning as I went to my car to drop my bags and then came to eat because there were many guests in the dining area and I didn’t want to take up the space. Sadly, the bathroom still had hair in the shower, on the toilet, and the floor from the previous occupant. Norfolk could be a frequent stop for me, but I don’t know about this property.

We stayed in room 224. The check in process was smooth. However, upon entering the room we noticed a smell in the bathroom. The smell was most likely coming from the pasture on the ceiling over the toilet. We asked for another room and was informed that they were completely booked for the night. After showering the tub would not stop leaking, so we went to pull the door up. We found ourselves locked out of the bathroom because it sealed itself from the top but was not fully closed at the bottom. The receptionist had to use her body force to get the door open and again apologized for the inconvenience. We later saw multiple hairs in our sheets as if somewhere had already laid there but at this point it was midnight and we just wanted to sleep. The next morning as we were packing our bags to go, we noticed the ceiling in the bathroom leaking over the floor. We again notified the front desk and nothing was done. The customer service here is nice as everybody was nice, and the breakfast was good. However when it comes to cleanliness and safety hazards I have many concerns.

My hotel room was not clean! There were candy wrappers, chip bags, bottles and food particles on the floor under the pullout sofa and behind the headboard, which you can see when laying down on the bed. Oh and the pullout mattress was old and lumpy. Worst sleep of my life. The amount of rust in the bathroom was icky to look at and have to touch. The staff was very friendly and great location for concert and beach goers.

Disappointing Stay – Dirty, Unkept, and Below Hampton Standards

I’ve stayed at several Hampton Inns, but this Virginia Beach location was by far the worst. While most of the staff were friendly, the hotel itself was extremely dirty and poorly maintained. The floors throughout the building hadn’t been swept in days — there was visible debris and trash the entire three-day stay. The elevator mats were filthy, one elevator had flooring missing, and our bathroom clearly hadn’t been properly cleaned. A dirty rag hung on the door, and there was hair from a previous guest on the sink. The room had only one small trash bin in the bathroom, which was rusted and grimy inside. The A/C unit barely worked and left the room stuffy and uncomfortable.

The pool was another issue — we saw someone reluctantly “cleaning” it, and soon after, it was closed due to a supposedly broken door handle. While that may have been true, the timing and the staff’s attitude made it seem more like an excuse to avoid upkeep. The door was fixed by the end of the day, which added to the frustration.

Overall, this hotel was dirty, unkept, and not up to Hampton’s usual standards. I won’t be returning and don’t recommend this location.

The property seem a bit unkempt. And I would not rate the quality of the hotel and rooms at four stars, but I would definitely stay here again because the staff was so accommodating, helpful, responsive, and cheerful. The area around it seems a little sketchy so I worried at first about safety but had no issues. My room was clean enough, comfortable enough, not really updated and the television choices were very limited. I did so appreciate the staff that I would stay here again though. especially the front desk receptionist, Meshia.

The area surrounding the hotel was shady at night but with it being so close to the beach it was not surprising. If I was to come back I would get closer to the beach but this is pretty neutral spot at a decent price.

I travel at least 7 nights a month, and this by far is the worst experience I’ve ever had. The front desk person on duty the night of May 24, 2025 at 1:45am was terrible. We waited and waited outside for a long time. Ringing the bell and calling. When she finally opened the door, I made a comment to the affect of “maybe she was sleeping?” To my kids and husband because she took so long. It was supposed to be funny, but she heard part of it and wanted to fight me. A 58 year old who rented two rooms. Then another man wasn’t getting let in. When she finally buzzed him in she said,”sweetheart, can’t you read?” My jaw dropped when I heard her treat a customer that way. By far the rudest person I’ve ever come across. Ever. Dirty sheets on sofa bed- it’s broken.

Roaches in the bathroom

I typically have a good experience staying at Hampton Inns and they have always been my go-to choice of hotels. But unfortunately, this one was a major disappointment in terms of cleanliness. I spotted numerous tiny roaches crawling around the bathroom on separate occasions. This made for an uncomfortable stay, knowing that there were roaches crawling around. The floors were not clean as well and long hairs kept appearing everywhere.
